      Not much reason not to! The R/T is a total parts-bin special of Dakota and Ram parts, so absolutely everything is available in massive quantity. You could refuse to put oil in your R/T, get a new engine everytime you blow one, and it'd still be cheaper per mile to service than a 911. Lol

    I can confirm, this truck is absolutely stunning in person. It's bizarre to see a Dodge truck from this era that still has an interior and legible switches and knobs. The bed is also so clean it looks like no one even set as much as a cardboard box back there. It's truly incredible.

      @stephenreed3381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I always struggle with doing mods to cars I own because I think of how hard I've been searching for a truck that isn't completely ruined by idiocy. So, outside of putting bluetooth in my cars (and keeping the original radio stored away, even if it's messed up) I keep them original. I always love seeing others do it, as well.

    • @dragon81heart
      @dragon81heart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes PLEASE don’t mod this gem!
      It’s absolutely perfect just the way it is.
      If you must do anything, make it super subtle looking, and so it can go back to 100% stock easily
      (It would be hard to resist making it louder as this is true music, not these goofy sounding things today with fake pops and backfires. That’s a tell tell sign of who is and isn’t an actual car person. Never met an real car person that actually likes those hilarious fake pops and bangs 🤣)

Loved that thing, my old man worked for Dodge for 9 years so he had demo's of just about everything and you're right... nothing is better than that Dakota. Even better that it's black, it's basically like a dream truck of mine too. They made those with manual transmission's too, damned shame it's auto. But still... just hearing that transmission hang into 2nd and 3rd took me back lol. Love it man.

      To be honest, here in the UK (where car insurers are allowed to charge whatever they like), driving a truck to high school would be even more baller than a Mercedes. For reference I recently paid £1200 for insurance on my little 1.2 TDI Škoda Fabia Station Wagon (with 75hp). A truck would probably cost way over £8000 for a young person to insure.

      @@RandomGuyDan Considering it only has a few original miles its still a bargain. Those Dakota R/Ts can be bought slightly used with 80k to 100k miles for like 5 grand even in this bideneconomy. Pristine interiors too, though in a decade they will be worth 30 grand even for a used one just like those old early 90s Ford and Chevy pickups today. For some reason the only car markets to appreciate are supercars and shitty 30-40 year old pickups.

    I bought one new in 98 .. it broke a leaf spring on the freeway and the insurance company totaled it.. they said the truck was stated to have an over rated tow capacity and that several people towing trailers had lost horses and people had died as a result. I was so pissed off because i loved that truck. Mine was an extended cab with the red lettering. I had hella custom mods done to it .. but they paid me out.

      Funny, I figured Tyler for exactly the guy that would slap 20's on his truck in high school. I feel like we have very similar taste in cars. I had an old black Buick Riviera with a 5.7L V8, red vinyl interior and flames painted on it in high school. I would drive it today if I still had it, those cushy bucket seats, cloud like ride, and pinky finger light steering meant it was the most cushy, leisurely driving car I had ever owned, and I've owned a Cadillac DeVille.
      But for the guy putting bus seats in his Ferrari, the 20's off a Dodge Ram is not a stretch.

When we got back the salesman met us outside and said “if you’re going to buy the truck you better say so now, because I’m about to ban you from this dealership for life”. I managed to look shocked and asked why...he said you’ve been gone for 5 minutes and we’ve had 3 calls. We left without saying another word. I love 5.9 R/Ts. Being a Durango driver, I naturally like the Durango version a little more, but that one had the full time transfer case like a Jeep, so not much for burnouts. The R/T had a different cam, intake, and exhaust, and they rev a lot freer than a 5.9 like I have. There was also a Grand Cherokee with the 5.9 for one year. Fastest Jeep ever made at the time, only beat by the SRT8. Paper horsepower means very little with these. They have a ton of torque, and a wide powerband. And that makes all the difference.
    I would take the wheels and tires off and store them. Especially if the size is hard to find. I'm sure a similar enough wheel and tire combo can be found that would allow for more options. Well done Hoovie!

    You have me feeling nostalgic. I had a 1999 Dodge Dakota R/T club cab in Amethyst. This was back around 2002/2003. Man was it a fun little truck! Now I want another.

    I got a 2001 dakota sport with the 3.9 v6. I love these trucks and always wanted an R/T one but never could find one. It is good to see someone else that loves these trucks. These trucks are awesome to me.

    I had a 2002 quad cab with the 4.7! It ran and handled great especially for a truck👍. My job had me traveling almost 170 miles a day round trip and Dakota got less than great mileage so, with 216k miles, I traded it for a car that got 40mpg. I never had any problems with the truck! Had it for 13 years. Really miss it😢

    Rowing Machine, Hoovie don't give up on that. Back in 2017 I was 308 Pounds and 5'9" Tall. My Dr. Pissed me off and I said I would loose 100lbs in a year. I didn't, I lost 103 pounds then kept going all the way down to a final weight of 164lbs! Almost half the man I used to be. Up to 176 right now but have maintained it since 2019 when I hit my final goal. Counted calories to a dangerous level, and used a Rowing Machine almost every day religiously. Only piece of exercise equipment I kept and replaced with a better model. 37 years old now was worth the 20+ months of sacrifice ;-)
