I met Chuck Beck and watched him build some of the cars in his shop. Amazing guy and so kind and personable. I remember one time I visited with him, he had just finished a car and rolled it outside for the first time. His expression was priceless.
Chuck lives around the Atlanta area for some years now. I SEE him fairly regularly. My favorite time was the ride in his 904 outside of the Road Atlanta track. One of the quickest Carr I have ever been in.
Chuck gave me a ride in a 550 with a 125HP VW motor when he was living and based in Victorville, California. He mashed the throttle in the driveway and never let up. We crossed a RR crossing on Highway 138 at over 100MPH and left the ground. I knew his background in racing and as Carroll Shelby's lead mechanic at LeMans so I wasn't as worried as I should have been. I remember Chuck mentioning his 14 year old son getting into trouble by driving one of his 550s to school instead of taking the bus.

The Beck is a well engineered car put together by Chuck Beck and crew. "Fake" is kind of a perjorative term, but I get the technical definition. Originals are going for about $3million+, so having a Beck puts the thrill of this car in the hands of normal people.
It’s funny that you ended by saying that you’ve “ridden off into the sunset together” in the Speedster, because that’s how James Dean died in his- He was headed west on a flat, straight, rural 2-lane highway in central California at sunset. Because of the sunlight, he missed the stop sign and collided with a truck. Good sunglasses are recommended in this car. :)

cable drawn shifters are a common thing for a 550 and the shifting becomes very crisp, I'm a private mechanic for somebody who has 2 of these one is a 2180cc vw engine with about 160 hp makes any v8 sound quiet, and one with a Subaru engine with about 300transaxle

I don't think 10 grand for doing the complete wring on two cars as well as all the hot rod stuff for the woodie is unreasonable at all.
@@yohojones not at all seems like a homie discount to me. i mean they basically built the damn roadster and rebuilt the wagoneer lol
When he said "no I'm fine" I expected when wizard brought up ambulance "I can't afford that after this bill!" 😂😂
That Beck Sypder sure is an amazing car, it’s such a looker. The Car Wizard and Magic Mike did a great job. Serious car envy!!!!
Imagine if Wizard had said, "Hoovie, your card was declined!"
Looks like an AMEX Black......they don't get declined.......No limit, as lo g as Hoovie pays up every month!!
@@robertsturtevant6185 Its a jokeeeee
I was thinking the same thing!
@@robertsturtevant6185 Aren't Amex Black cards invitation only if you earn over $1mil a year? They cost $15k a year in fees.
I was waiting for him to pull in to get gas and have the pump decline his card....
Actually, "The Truck" was a 1950 Ford sedan.
Do you know that joke from Jackie Brown? Sam Jackson says "yo, you still got that Maroon Brohamm?!" and they just talk about how sweet the "Brohamm" is.
Hoovies cars are like you with r9 290s
I thought it was a Merlot Bro Ham 🤣🤣🤣
I had a "broham" caprice. 1985. Loved it. Not even really sure why I thought you would care as I type this. Lol. Good day.
Whoa. TimmyJoe is here. Nice :D
@flyingwheels has one!
The Wizard and Magic Mike are the most patient mechanics.
Having a client with a $10k bill that can easily pay it on the spot helps, I bet. :-)
@@terryorcutt8739 yeah but that work was done in like a 1 year period. Meanwhile they are dying of hunger?
@@619guy202 - I'm pretty sure the Wizard bills him monthly for ongoing projects. Seen it in watching so many Hoovie videos!
He already mentioned he prepaid for some of the work already. And yes, these are long projects. But, it seems clear that Hoovie understands the Wizard's clients who need their daily drivers come first. Also, many times they sit because they're waiting on obscure, hard to locate parts or parts sent off to be rebuilt.
"He can't be that dumb!"
Hoovie: "Let's do a couple of pulls in this cold car!"
"Oh... He is."
Couple of pulls to get the credit card
Good thing he didn't call an ambulance, Hoovy probably can't afford one anymore.
No joke, I rode in an ambulance for a mile and a half and was charged $960. Fortunately because we donate to them they waived the fee.
@@scott8919 Good old USA
I rode one for two blocks and they wanted to charge me 1200 because I was drunk off my ass
Had my appendix out in little old New Zealand, cost me less than $50 for the prescription for some Antibiotics... Y'all need a revolution...
@@seanvucich In Norway we get everything inside of healthcare for free due to that we pay tax. We pay like over 30% income tax though
'you got my strap-on wizard?' 😂
Lol, I caught that too.
Hoovie pays the whole wizard Shop staff 😂
And once again Hoovies complete lack of mechanical sympathy keeps us all entertained. 🙂
@ him driving an entire lap with no oil pressure in the ole Porsche 911
The classic fall down after seeing the bill i think that was one of the bigger bills seen on this channel though
Murcialago was over $15k iirc.
cable drawn shifters are a common thing for a 550 and the shifting becomes very crisp, I'm a private mechanic for somebody who has 2 of these one is a 2180cc vw engine with about 160 hp makes any v8 sound quiet, and one with a Subaru engine with about 300transaxle
For the amount of work done on all those cars, $10k seems cheap!
The Wizard has said before that Tyler gets mates rates for the sheer amount of work he brings in and the whole making him famous on youtube thing.
He said he had already paid part of the work on the Beck, so that is not the full ticket.
"Money doesn't buy happiness."
You wanna bet!
Not needing it as much is.
But it DOES buy hooptieness!
While money may not BUY happiness, long term leases ARE on the table.
Money doesn't buy happiness it allows you to acquire an object that gives you happiness. If the car is what gives you happiness it doesn't matter how you acquire it as long as you acquire it.
@@alexnather7614 money doesn't buy you happiness, but a powerboat does!
... Until you can't afford to run it anymore...
To be honest, I would prefer to own a fake old car like this than a real old car, it's just more enjoyable to drive a car with the peace of mind that it is not a museum piece.
The joy of driving rather than the avarice of investment. Yup!
"One wizard mile, about to have one Hoovie mile."
One Hoovie mile later...
blew the big hose
That's Hoovie. He picks up a car he has been waiting for and immediately trashes it on his first drive, and then limps back to the Wizard saying, "oh, oh goodness."
Yep. Bag driving a fresh rebuild with 1 mile on the odo. Must have been an Amex Black Card he handed over...
Not that much that can go wrong though, this was a known working engine from a running car, so not that fresh
@@arzheus1313 He said it was a reasonably high mileage engine (I think 150,000mi) and he had "the wizard" go over it. If pulling an engine like that I would have them at least do the full top end(s), HG, timing belt, water pump and the like. It's not like they just transplanted it straight from the Impreza (?) into the Beck.
@@ShmuelWeintraub he said he did no?
Out of all of Hoovie’s hoopties the one I’d choose over all the others is this Beck Spyder! I’ve been lusting for one for decades!
Strange, it's the one I'd throw away lol
14:00 That moment when your Mechanic knows your credit car password! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
the last time he dissed the Miata his engine blew, haven't you learned yet hoover?
Flashback to my 1968 Porsche 912 that a buddy (who built dune buggies back in the day) blue printed my blown 912 engine (cabin full of smoke on the Kansas Turnpike between Wichita & KC). It ran so good after that! My current driver is a 2014 Forester 2.5L with a similar balanced power curve. Love to see you put an Subaru XT engine into a blown 911/912 as a great future Hoovie project. Have pics if you are interested. Preston
