I am glad I can share what I did to fix my car without shipping it somewhere and being charged for a complete new battery assembly. As I have said before, these batteries are going to fail eventually and if you don't have deep pockets, and aren't near a CSP you will end up with some nice looking driveway art. Thank for for the compliment and watching my videos!
Glad you enjoyed the series. Admittedly not the best electric car on the market, but in 2012 the introduction of this car proved that electric cars can have styling that rivals many gasoline powered European cars. So glad the car runs as it should now. Thank you for watching!
Great stuff. I do have a Fisker. Got in at a similar price like you did. But 5 yrs ago. And faced similar problems. All sorted out now, at significant expense, of course. Thing is, the car is unique, design is out of the world. Hence i intent to keep it, upgrade battery when new battery tech is available (aiming for at least 100kwh), replace touchscreen and install better camera’s. It will be become a keeper. I certainly will learn from your efforts for the long run. Appreciate your videos very much. You have great detail in it. 👍🏼🙂
I heard of a company that is working on a new battery, but not seen anything completed. At least there are parts out there for our 2012's, I have found people parting these cars and selling parts.
Just purchased the 2012 Fisker. Left it parked for a month while I was out of town. I was happy it held the charge when I returned but, it lost all the preset radio stations and the back up camera did not work? Any suggestions?
You will need the Puma programmer at a minimum. These cars need to be operated frequently or this happens with the 12v battery drain. I would get on the Fisker Forum and ask the people there if there is someone that will loan you the Movimento Puma and the firmware that goes with your car (IE 520, 535 etc.) Good luck!
Really appreciate these videos! Deserves more views. Probably could improve your pacing if you are wanting to grow with a more general audience, but if the point is to get good info out there you're already doing great work
I do some videos with a more mainstream car (Pontiac Solstice) and I get good watch time and subscriber base. I really like to work on things that nobody else does. This insures that I have a small audience regardless of the quality of the videos. Am I making these to get rich? Certainly not. I am sharing my work with others so that there is a video reference to go to; and to provide a worthwhile video for someone to view before turning any wrenches. I find that most people who say they work on cars, or like working on cars don't actually do any of that. Such a small group of folks actually wrench but are very LOUD when it comes time for opinions of something related to auto service, with absolutely no experience of what they are talking about. So part of my motivation for making videos was to combat the 'repeaters' that regurgitate information passed on by others without actually doing any work. Most of the time I do little to any research on a job and it leads me doing it a different way than most. Thank you so much for the positivity and connecting with me as you can see I am passionate about sharing what I do with others.
Auto manufacturers use codes that apply to something specific with the vehicle. When I was diagnosing the problem I got lots of codes that were general powertrain codes and not searchable. P0A7B is the generic code that comes up when the HV Battery is requesting that the check engine light get turned on. It's usually accompanied by other Fisker-specific battery codes that most generic scan tools can't pick up. If you are having these issues you will need a diagnosis with the Fisker maintenance tool. This is a laptop that can be plugged in and run diagnostics to address your particular problem. Try the Fisker forum, there are folks on there with the proper diagnostic tools to help you.
Hello, I also have a Fisker, and the check engine light is on. Did you ever figure out how to get into the diagnostics to see what the code is? A normal OBD reader does not work on the car.
@@lynnmoody6110 It is true that you won't find the Fisker specific codes with out the "Fisker laptop" that is available for loan. I used a $100 scanner and it told me almost nothing, no codes available. When I used the Snap-on scanner, it told me all the codes, but the descriptions were incorrect or not there. With the Snap-on scanner, I was able to see the codes in a "global code scan" by the scanner. I think this scans everything and will tell you complete codes that are just generic codes. P07AB is a general fault code for the battery. This is not the fault that is happening but a code used to set the light only.
Ha! You really don't want a car like mine right? It looks like there aren't too many of them out there now and people selling are asking way too much. Should be able to get something decent for 30-40K assuming the owners are honest and tell you any problems it has. You will really need to test drive the car and fully deplete the battery if you want to know if there are any HV electrical issues with the car. This is difficult to do as most people won't like you taking a 50 mile test drive. Without the Prodis Fisker tool you will never be able to see if the battery can discharge completely without codes unless the battery is depleted. Lots of risk with this car and you have to be prepared to spend 20-30K if something major goes wrong. Good luck, keep checking Craigslist in major cities and be prepared to ship if necessary.
Keep watching and you will find out what happens. There are eight videos in this series and at the end you will see the results of my efforts. Thanks for watching!
No, some guy in the San Francisco area. He is still in business repairing Fisker Karmas. It is important to remember that he never took any responsibility for the mistake but yet the last person to touch the car.
You are in luck! I have 12 Fisker Karma videos including everything from oil changes to battery service to shifter maintenance. There is a playlist on my channel that contains all my Fisker Karma videos. Thanks for watching!
Your videos are great and your obviously very knowledgeable but your making videos about something a very small percentage of people can relate too. Almost no one would buy that car, much less used.
You bet I am. I enjoy collecting limited production cars and the challenge that goes with owning a car with little guidance or documentation. As you can see, I have been making videos for a couple years and have very little watch time/subscribers. I spend 40-80 hours each video filming and editing my content. It is my full time job, not much time in the day to do anything else. Someone has to create content for these cars! Too many videos on this platform that are all about destroying something. I am a builder, and a fabricator. After wanting a Fisker for years, I finally found one locally that had the colors I wanted. I really didn't expect the seller to be dishonest and sell a car with a known bad battery. I did not buy the car knowing I was going to have to do major repair. I think it is great someone had the time/effort to put into showing how the Fisker Karma battery works. I know when I started working on this car, I would have loved to see a video of someone doing any kind of testing/troubleshooting on this car. There is a market for the Fisker Karma and people own these cars for years, and I love mine.
Loving your videos. Fellow Fisker Karma owner here. My battery is fine, but I am so glad you are documenting this for all of us when/if we need it.

Fascinating series! Ive always loved this car. Your tenaciousness to fix it is impressive!

Let me trade you my 1998 honda civic LX, 😂 your tires are probably more expensive than my car😂
Lmao 🤣 it’s a Fisker there’s no such thing as trouble free driving. Take a Fiat and a jaguar and they had a baby it would be called a Fisker.
