Bach's FAST GIGUE on a CHARMING Danish Organ (BWV 577)

- I had the opportunity to give a recital at the church of Lemvig, Denmark. It is a pretty charming organ which has two divisions: a great division and a pretty large swell division with 16, 8 and 4 foot reeds. The color of the facade has a warm orange tint which blends nicely with the church interior.
OK, this will be the last rendition of J.S.Bach's wonderful and lively Gigue (BWV 577) fugue... this year!! :-D However, I wanted to also provide you with some videos from other places other than the one of my Hauptwerk Organ at home.
Perhaps the tempo of this Gigue is finally at a point where it doesn't need to be faster, but when you play a concert you often tend to set the tempo perhaps a little bit too fast. However, the church didn't have the largest reverberation so I found that it actually worked out pretty well.
This time I finally managed to operate my external recorder (H4N Pro) so that it actually recorded the sound, hence the the quality of the sound should be way better than the last recital video I posted some weeks ago.
Thank you all for watching my videos and commenting. It is always a pleasure to read through your kindness. I wish you the very best!
Warm regards
Philip

All the best,

Fantastically played the fast tempo makes it such a joy and playfullness in the piece⭐️Thank you Philip🎉
It truly is an uplifting piece. Thanks Lena as always!
Really enjoy seeing and hearing these different organs of Denmark. This sounds wonderful, congratulations on yet another great performance Thanks for sharing this 🤗
Dear Linda. I will try to get around Denmark a bit more to hopefully bring you some videos other than just my Hauptwerk organ. They just are a bit harder to make ;)
Just beautifully played. It definitely got me moving today. Thanks for sharing!
That's good to hear Jon! Thank you!
Nicely done. Thank you.
Thanks Joe and also for subscribing! :-)
Awesome!
Thanks mate 🙏
Wow! That’s wonderful and it’s fast. I just wish I could play that fast but my ageing fingers won’t move like that anymore. A lovely organ and a recording of which you can be truly proud. Well done!
I appreciate your kind comment Andrew 🙏🏻
You also worked as an organist? Where if I may ask?
I was a failure on the piano as a young boy. Then, around the age of 11, I discovered the organ and realised that this was the instrument for me. I was never able to have lessons but taught myself all I know. I have played for church services from that time , nearly 65 years, in various churches and chapels in England, Scotland and, for about 50 years, in Wales. I am not a professional. I worked as a maths teacher before retirement. Nearly 40 years ago I built a 3 rank pipe organ from scratch using second hand pipes and a new electric blower. Everything else I made myself. I now play mainly on a digital organ, upgraded 2 years ago to use Hauptwerk. That’s my story!
Whaou whaou, magnificent Philippe.. i love this work. Incredible tempo, the sounds are superb. 💫💫💫
Wonderful, today was my birthday, nice gift !!! What a joy to listen to you. Huge congratulations 👏👏👏👏🎵🌟🎵🌹🎵🌟🎵🌹🎵🌟❤️❤️
Thank you for taking the time to write such kind words Marie. Always great hearing from you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Nice video !!! Bravo Maestro !!! Thank you so much, Philip !!! 🌹🎼❤️🙏😘✨👍
They just keep on coming :-) Thanks Irina!
Splendid! A quick tempo maintained right through, and joy radiating from every note! Thank you very much for this wonderful performance!
Let me just second that: nothing wrong with a faster tempo as long as the accuracy stays the same. One of the reasons I (as a slow-tempo organist) can appreciate Gerben Budding's playing of Bach, for instance
So lovely to great. Thank you Andrew!
The right tempo will forever be a point of discussion in music. This rendition is quite fast but avidly and well played. As long as articulation and overall musicality of the piece are not negatively affected any tempo is okay for me. And so is this recording. Well done, Philip!
Yay!!! Thanks a ton and for that amount you sponsored some weeks ago. I have 2 organs in mind but I can’t decide. Anyway in some months time I will feature it on the channel!!
Nice video ! (I really liked the thumbnail too !)
Hi Francois. Thank you! A new place gives me an opportunity to also change the thumbnails instead of just being at home all the time :-)
It's just unbelievably fun to listen to it with this forward momentum.
Anyway, I'm always happy about recordings on "analogue" organs. 😃
Yes, analogue organs are simply the best. Actually there is no comparison!
As I "criticized" the recording with the technical problems made in Varde (DK) I must now state that this recording is better by far. It is also a nice addition to your channel to have you playing real pipe organs. And of course Denmark has interesting organs spread over the country. I found a little organ with a bombarde register (horizontal trumpets) in a small town near Aalborg during a holiday trip. Unfortunately I had no chance to hear that organ.
Thank you so much H. Can you remember where the church was located?
@@philipaggesen Hals, Aalborg kommunen.
Danish organs sound so good!
I agree!! ;-)
Wow Philip the speed at which you play this - brilliant- every note as clear as a bell. Great to hear you playing on a full organ - the acoustics are great love that pedal is it a 32 foot Bourdon?
Yes, it has now reached the speed of that of Jonathan Scott and Mathias Havinga :-D
Nope no 32 foot. But a Fagot 16 and Trumpet 8 in the pedals amongst others!
Now that’s a fast gigue! Hope the Danish have hearty lungs and legs, 😂. Nice sound from that organ.
Hi William. HAHA, yes, but to my knowledge nobody left the recital early ;)
Tusind tak for din kommentar.
I had the opportunity to give a recital at the church of Lemvig, Denmark. Fast enough, but not faster… aka Einstein vs. Simplicity etc.👍
Good point!!
