    Stretching in the evening is the best! Not only is it scientifically proven that you tend to be less flexible in the morning, I also totally agree with you on it giving you a nice opportunity to focus on yourself, your breathing and getting ready for bed.

      @user-lx7ci3gg5f I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad to stretch in the morning because that's when you're more stiff! If it feels right, it feels right:)
      Exhausted muscles, mental stress and so many other things can affect how stretchy you are. I just personally feel better stretchkng after my body has relaxed a bit during the day, means less risk for injury as well

    • @Milesamanjaro
      @Milesamanjaro 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It really depends on where you reference, as the counterargument for AM stretching suggests that our joints and our spine are less compressed after laying down from sleeping while prone, compared to standing, sitting, and moving in an upright position throughout the day and then stretching. However, I wouldn't recommend stretching cold muscles/joints, so a brief warmup should also be included in the AM if that's when it happens.
      I waffle back and forth when I do it. I sometimes also do it in my office midday, during lunch, as my strength training or cardio takes precedence in the PM so I can focus on quality movements without rushing in the AM. Heavy workouts in the PM also help me sleep like a rock 😴
      Regardless, the "when" shouldn't be a deciding factor as long as you're able to be consistent and safe with your regimen. Listen to your body. It gives you feedback 💪

    Omg. I'm 32 years old and the last time I exercised was like... Never. I really hated everything and I was so bad I didn't wanted to do it or try anything. But boy... I tried after watching this video. I started only 15 minutes per day and now I do 40 minutes everyday! Like every single day and has been more than one month now! I really love the feeling. I never realized how much daily pain I had in my body until I stopped feeling it. And everyday I can stretch a little bit further so it's also great for my confidence. Thank you so much! ❤

    I wanted to say thank you for something you said in one of your other videos. you were talking about finding motivation to go work out and you said, 'you're NEVER going to be in the mood, so it's on you to just go do it!'
    i was having one of those mornings today, where the last thing i wanted to do was go for a run, but i got on the damn treadmill and ran two miles and felt great afterward.
    the perspective shift you offered really helped and i appreciate it. hope you're having a great day.

    Started watching because of your cycling video and 6 videos later here we are. You’re a bit of a dork and I know that sounds like an insult but I think it’s part of your appeal. Bit of a goofball which is cool. I also like the creative cuts and edits you use. The ones where you went camping and used your body as the letters of the title I thought was very creative.

    Thank you so much for this video. I would have never thought this would happen, but these 20 minutes on my yoga mat each night feel like a tiny wellness vacation. I don't follow your channel for too long but you've already encouraged me to try stretching, to see running as something enjoyable and generally reminded me that nothing good is ever easy. Seeing you working hard and not giving up helps me to feel less alone with that process and it's soooo empowering.
    And on top of that you seem absolutely adorable and really make me laugh (and cringe sometimes too, but in the good way ;) )

    I'm really impressed by your ability to follow through on your goals. I am working on doing better in that regard myself. Today I did my first workout this year. I'm hoping to incorporate more movement into my schedule but its so easy to just push it to "tomorrow". How do you keep showing up and being consistent?

    • @makariespe
      @makariespe  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Honestly, I'm really motivated by you and everyone who watches! Reading everyone's comments about how they're trying to accomplish their goals inspires me to put my best effort into mine and sharing it with you.
      Outside of youtube, I start really small. I've been struggling to get back to weights lately. So instead of jumping back into my usual routine of 40 minute workouts, I'm keeping a consistent schedule of 20 minutes of weights 5 days a week - because I can convince myself to do anything for 20 minutes!
      On a smaller scale, I did a "challenge" a few years ago where I did yoga everyday for 3 months (not a video). Some days that just meant showing up and laying on my mat for 5 minutes. Really just any little thing to give myself credit for helps me stick to a routine :)

But until I watched Tim (via your channel) I didn't realise I was always down watching these beautiful strong female bodies doing things I cannot do, but I'd carry on anyway and just shelve the sadness. But I do NOT mind that I look nothing like Tim :) I am a-OK not having abs, arms and pecs like his lol but enjoy the view none-the-less. It's easier to follow too.

    Also your German „ich kann ja super tanzen“ indeed means „I can dance really well“. I would personally leave out the „ja“, because we would use „ja“ in this context if we were surprised that we were this good of a dancer. Or if we‘ d wanna be a little sarcastic.

    Most people are skipping stretching because they think it is boring, unnecessary... Especially guys. It took me long time to persuade friend of mine to start stretching. He is ex boxer, now he is into long distance running, like half marathon and marathon. he always looked so tight to me. After only one month or so he was hooked. Not only he is much more flexible he also feels much more relaxed. Both physically and mentally. For stretching to be successful we need to get relaxed. It is conscious effort. We need to control our breathing and we need to consciously relax our muscles. It reflects very well on our everyday lives.

    Upcoming: Makari learns German on Duolingo for 30 days. :D (And yes, it was correct)
    Would be interested in what your stretching routine is going to be. Every day the same stretches or different ones every time like you did in the video?

    I found your videos a few days ago and you've quickly become one of my favorite TH-camrs. Kind of a perfect blend of Wheezy Waiter and Mia Maples. You inspired me to delete all the scrolling apps from my phone, so thanks for that, haha.

    Love your videos! I’m also a Peloton devotee, and Matty is my favorite for evening stretches. His voice is so comforting to me! He has a great “Calm” stretch from 5/21 that I repeat. It includes John Legend’s cover of God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. I highly recommend it.

    This was such a great video! I always put aside stretching for similar reasons, and honestly, until the last few years, flexibility was the least of my problems (super mobile joints) but these days with more strength work, I feel like I need to get back to it. So thanks for the reminder! I think I might try the Vertue Method stretch module but your peloton stretch videos looked awesome! Keep being awesome, looking forward to your next video!

    Great job. Next step wearing bare foot shoes. This will change your live. It's hard to adapt, but it's really healthy for the body. You can try first with beginners bare shoes since the advanced one are almost like walking with no shoes and it will hurt a lot (especially on concrete ouch!).

    Just found your channel over the weekend as stuck at home and so far, really good content, both presentation wise and editing wise. To this topic, yeah, this is me, except I've been cycling for 20 years, so I'm way worse, thanks for the inspiration and showing that if you stick with it, it really can make a difference. Curious since you work a desk job, if you've not considered/tried doing stretches mid-day/during lunch, to see if that helps?

    Your positive energy is so contagious ☺ also my fave stretch to do is madfit's 30 minute Beginner flexibility routine (stretches for the inflexible), the one with 16m views. I like doing the same one everyday so I can feel how I progress with the same moves, but I haven't tried many others. Might throw in some of the ones you liked too, every now and then.
