Well actually singer came out with this design first
And it was made by the company Ryobi so other manufacturers including Kenmore borrowed the design
These are my personal favorite variant of the Kenmore Twin Fan upright. I love how it has the standard handle power switch and not that oddball recline override style power switch.
Actually, Singer was the original creator of this kind of double-fan, sideways motor, upright cleaner - way back in the 1950’s. This revolutionary configuration was designed by a famous industrial designer - Raymond Loewy I think. The original model that came to market in the 1950’s was called the “Magic Glide” I think. So Singer was the original developer of this design and made similar uprights for Sears and for Sunbeam and for Lewyt. The Singer vacuum division was eventually bought by the Japanese Ryobi company and so the final chapter of the Twin Fan upright was written by the Ryobi company. Once Panasonic bought the Whirlpool vacuum factory in Kentucky, Sears sourced most of their new Kenmore uprights from Panasonic.
Update: Indeed, Raymond Loewy designed the revolutionary Singer “Magic Carpet” upright way back in 1946!!! It was the first upright to position the motor side-ways so that the motor hood could be very sleek and low in profile. And this configuration was what inspired Hoover to do the same thing in their revolutionary Dial a Nap upright!

My mom had several kenmore vacuum cleaners, I remember using the kenmore power ease self propelled upright, it was from 1977,1978. It was blue and white with the wood grain on topnthe head light. It had two separate motors. One for self propelled feature. Then the main suction motor. It had three travel speeds for the self propelled motor. The head light was so bright. I loved using it.. it would awesome if kenmore would bring these older styles back as an anniversary special.
