Whirlpool Cabrio Washer Won't Start or Turn On - How to Repair the Interface

- If you own a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer that won't start or a Cabrio washer that won't turn on, there is a sadly common problem that is extremely costly to repair by replacing the Cabrio Washer interface board. However, there's a very quick and affordable fix to solve this issue. The problem occurs that will cause the Whirlpool Cabrio Washer won't start and just beeps among other things - again, all caused by the interface board.
In this video, we go through a quick confirmation via the Cabrio Washer Error Code system to show some other possible codes, but are primarily concerned with the Cabrio F6E2 Error code, if a code comes up at all.

What if the machine turns on, makes noise like it's trying to sense the load (does it for a few minutes), but water never starts flowing and then the cycle "Ends"? No error message displays.

Thank you for this great instruction. The power would not come onto my Cabrio Whirlpool. Followed your video which was easy. I had deposits on one of the points on the circuit board. Cleaned it and the washer is now in business! Saved me money from calling the repair man and more importantly the wife is happy!

My wash is like this, except it is the smoke colored one. It did the same thing. I saw the codes it was blinking and looked them up. My husband said just call the local repairman. When the guy came, I said I think it's the console from the codes." He took one look at it and said you just need to go by a new washer. He said he could no longer buy that interface. I told him you can't be serious. The washer is only 8 years old. I paid $800 for it. It's only the 2 of us using it. I've been using the washer I gave my son when I bought this one. It's now 25 yrs old and works great. The repairman left without charging anything. Sure enough, I got online and couldn't find one for a few weeks. Some companies say Whirlpool has quit making the interface. Other companies say they are on back order. I did find the part at a parts house in Virginia. Yes, it was $272 they only charged $15 shipping fee. But it's better than buying a new washer. I bought this washer for its size to wash comforters and have always bought Whirlpool. Come on, Whirlpool, why would you either stop making this part or make it so hard to find, especially when it's the most common thing to go out. I watched your video to learn how to install it. The original interface does have a small burnt spot. I didn't have to send it back for a core charge. So I'm going to see if I can repair it for a spare. I understand the same thing can happen to the dryer with steam. Thank you so much for posting this video it was so helpful.

We;ve fixed so many of these at our shop doing this, its insane. I've already gone thru one bottle of the conformal coating, and if you buy it & use it, you know that you use only a little per board you fix, so its nuts.
watched your video several times and tried the cleaning process. I don't quite understand how cleaning the pads does anything - they are just unused solder pads that do nothing. Anyway - after several failed cleaning attempts - I ground the plastic welds off and removed the cover. I found what looked like bug waste around several semiconductors. Also found a burnt spot (transistor) which probably is the culprit of why the appliance never turns on. Its not that hard to remove the cover - and can easily be welded back if you find the problem. So this cleaning process may work on most interface boards but NOT all. I also believe cleaning process is really working because people are taking the connector off and putting it back together cleans the pins - the real problem is probably the connector pins getting corroded.
The pads get corroded and end up shorting the Board UI. It's not the connector harness that solves it, it's often the pads. The fix has saved thousands upon thousands of interfaces from being replaced. Like you said, it works for most not all. I've personally done this and fixed dozens for the corrosion issue since this video was filmed 4 years ago

So I got error message - technician came today and pretty much told me that I would most likely need to replace the washer because repairing the control panel would be too expensive. Good News: I was able to follow the instructions of this video and machine is running like a champ. Bad News - I did this after paying the $150 service call fee to a worthless repair technician. At any rate - thanks for posting this great video - in the long run I saved a lot more than I would have - had I followed the advice of the lame technician.

I have a cabrio WTW7000DW0 and am comfortable replacing the control board or control panel. How do I determine which one needs replaced? Are there certain codes that suggest which module to replace? I was getting the F6E2 code which led me to this video a few months ago. Fix worked great! Thx! But now I'm getting consistent F2E1 stuck button codes. Things that I've noticed are as I scroll through the various cleaning modes, the timer doesn't change and the speaker doesn't always work or sounds are distorted. Appreciate your help.

Literally, the ONLY video I could find on the top load washer with the touch interface. My controls are locked, so I’m hoping maybe this will help me troubleshoot the issue. Unless, anyone has another recommendation for me. Please, help!

My washer started double beeping and would not change any options for cycles, temp, etc. So buttons are responsive in that they make a sound, the machine just won't run.
Ran a diagnostic test. Got code F2, E1. Called Whirlpool and after waiting 45 min on hold, they told me they had no idea what that meant. 🤯🤯🤯 Recommended I buy a new washer, from them, of course, or call a repair person. Wondering if maybe you have any pointers for me. Thanks for all you do!!
F2E1 is stuck key. Usually that points to replacing the touchscreen/UI. I'd clean the contacts as shown in the video and see if ti helps.

I want to personally thank you for the easy to follow and perfect instructions. I'm not the handiest person around, but I can follow directions. Your video solved the problem with my Whirlpool Cabrio washer, saving me hundreds of dollars with a repair person or over a thousand for a new washer. The washer threw those error codes...then after I unplugged it and waited, according to Whirlpool instructions, the machine was dead...wouldn't power up and no lights went on.
It wasn't difficult at all to access the interface board, although there are a LOT of screws to get to it. Still not sure why all that schmutz accumulates on the contacts...and where the contacts even contact. LOL! But it worked and we're back to normal wash again. I would have never even imagined that could have been the problem...or the solution.

Thanks for the video. My Cabrio wouldn't turn on at all, no idication of power, but the outlet was powered. Had dirty contacts just as seen at the 5:00 min point in the video.
Cleaned them with a q-tip and alcohol. Didn't have the coating, so I put it all back together until the coating comes in. The 30 minutes it took me to do this saved a lot of money on a service call

Had to scrape my electrical pcb areas with a box knife tip and knock the dark brown corrosion off, its working good now. Thank you im ordering the conformal coating!
Thank you so MUCH for this video. We did not have an error code but we couldn’t get the “Start” button or the “How to Wash” buttons to change from one to the other. We followed your steps to take the top off, the panel, and then to swab with rubbing alcohol. We wiped everything down, including wiping behind the “chime box”, put it back together and IT WORKED!! Thank you for this so we didn’t hire a repair person or spend around $240 on a new panel.

Good news/bad news…I already ordered a new console before I started tearing it apart, so that may have been a bit premature…but, I’ll have a hot spare ready to go if this thing breaks again, and it appears that they are in short supply.

Mine just stopped working, but the front bezel started flashing like there's a bad connection, turning on and off. The light is very low, and I can't start the cycle. The light inside the dryer won't turn on either!
So I had the F6E3 codes on mine. Followed your instructions and now it works again. I did not apply the coating but I figure I should get another few years out of this machine now. I hate my whirlpool cabrio have replaced door lock twice and trying to figure out why it just decided to quit working on my 2nd load today I swear I am always walking on eggshells around this stupid washer. I am going to buy me a old school used washer with buttons my moms probably 25-35 yrs old and never had any problems this is crazy it’s all in their big plan
have a wed5620hw2 whirlpool electric dryer thats dead. when you power on - the control board has a flashing 1 second green led. console is w11378949 (looks similar to one you are working on in this video) that is plastic welded. Do I have to break these welds to get to the contacts to clean them ?

Great video. I just don't have the nerve to try this myself. I had a repair guy out ($135) that wanted to replace the panel control after running those codes you showed. He reset the panel and all was good telling me to get a extended repair plan for about $100 a year. Washer worked fine, but started to act up again. I think he wanted to sell a extended warranty plan from the company he worked for. How can I find a repair person like you? My error codes were F5 E1 I have a 3yr old Whirlpool top loader with electronic panel controls. Would appreciate some advise.
Unfortunately you won’t find a repair person that will do this and here’s why.
Warranty! How long would you warranty a fix where you cleaned contacts with alcohol?
A new board/panel from our supplier has a 1 year warranty.
We don’t have a choice unless I want to run back and forth to your house to clean the contacts every few months! And our time is more valuable than that control panel after you count up all the time spent on this fix.
But I do love Ben’s products and some of them I implement (wish I could do the same with this honestly)
F6 E3 code for Cabrio like the one you showed...I had an appliance company said i need two boards for $400 and $300 and now I am concerned that he never even opened the back to look at that.
Vast majority don't know about this fix. I'd look and see if there's damage.

I e don't this and it starts to work but then will stop mid washing.. would it be the interface or something else.. I had to change the lid lock a week ago and since then it will go all crazy and turn off then back on when the lid lock engages.. I do get the F6 E2 code still. so it will work for a few mins then shut off mid wash..

If all buttons respond. Likely the door sensor is bad. Mine not sensing when it is closed. Try thumping your lid closed and see if it allows button response.
My diag mode stays 888. Same washer. You seemed to have time skipped to the code. Does it take 30min for code to show?

They can't repair this machine. Its beyond their mental capabilities. Who needs a computer and error codes in an effing washing machine.? The computer is the problem, take it out, go back to basics.
Won't happen. Efficiency standards demand auto leveling which more or less requires a computer control

Hey Ben! I have about a 5-6 year old whirlpool that is ALL touchscreen no dial. It turns on but when I try to push any button it just does a beep beep -and will not start or change settings. I’ve tried unplugging for 10 minutes and cannot find ANY videos of my set online. Can you help 😢😢😢😢😢

You just saved me $658 on a new board, or whatever the cost of a new washer. Cleaning the interface with alcohol wipes fixed my issue. I had both the f6/e2 codes!!
