Got my first keeper of the year just north east of greenlawns and a short in 3 feet of water on the south side of shinecock canal on Sunday. Thank god for porgies.

I miss bay , surf , and ocean fishing since I moved from your area 30 years ago . Was really nice to see you catch that fluke . Seems a bit early for them as I used to fluke fish constantly when in season . Thanks for the video , brought back many memories ! I subscribed based just on this , my first of your channel .
Thanks for the kick in the nuts so early in the season lol 😂 seeing you land more fish in two hours than I’ll prob land all season just made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside 🤦♂️
Always enjoy watching your fishing adventures John. What changes did you notice at the airport and on the plane traveling under the current situation. Stay safe and healthy!
Nice. I love the Jumpin’ Minnow for bass, and have caught albies on it too. Plus, it’s much less-expensive than many other surf plugs. I often replace the rear hook with a bucktail trailer, which keeps me from catching the super-small bass, and it hasn’t diminished my ability to hook the larger fish.
Glad to see that your back John, an wow I remember the days that I use to go scup fishing with my Dad we use to have a blast, as for fluke my Dad has thee best spot that always pays its in the Newport area, this video definitely brought back some great memories... awesome John

Welcome back John! Your FL videos induced me to buy a new Hobie Outback. Picked it up Monday and hope to take it out on Friday from Centerport or maybe the Lilco Asharoken ramp. Supposedly the fluke are stacked by the oil platform.
Welcome home, Mr. Skinner. Hoping you, your family and your communities are safe and well. PS. Favor to ask, at end of vid before you move to fluke, might you consider in the future when observing "really big porgy," could you give us a measurement for scale? GoPro lens, it's hard to tell. Am curious if a Peconic big porgy is 12 in., 14 in., bigger? Thanks for considering.
If the sea robins are decent size, they make tasty filets. The yield is low, maybe 1 pound of filet from 5 pounds of round fish. IMO porgies are tastier if cooked with the bone in, scaled but with the skin on. I cut along the dorsal fin but leave the fin on.
Wait, was that a snook or trout? Doesn’t look familiar... welcome back home. We are all lucky to have you back. The fish here, not so lucky. Stay safe.
I saw you out there that day working the sea robins like everyone else. I had 1 barely legal keeper a little further east. I'm hoping it turns around soon, I'm scheduled for a surgery June first. Tight lines.
He's back! I'm so excited! You and fishaholic went to Florida for the winter and I missed you guys so much. Are you going to try and work something out with the 4 Johns?
John welcome back and a quick question please. Do you have your trolling motor mounted on top of your rail in the front? I’ve been struggling to come up with ideas for dealing with the rail that runs around the bow of my small cabin boat. Never thought about mounting it on top of the rail. Thanks Giovanni
G M - the guy that did mine also did a Steiger with a pronounced rail. From what I remember, he cut a section of the rail and welded in two sloping down pieces so there was a gap where the TM could be deployed
Hi John, where is the chum pot compared to where you drop your line. Do you try and stay within a couple of feet of the chum pot or do you drop the chum pot off the bow and fish off the stern? Thanks.
love to see you back home John. Please be cautious and stay safe. Also I have a question and a possible video idea for you, what wind conditions etc. do you look for to ensure a good day of fishing?
Was wondering what happened to you, I was really enjoying the redfish, shook and trout vids. It will be getting more crowded in that area today the CT headboats can start fishing again.
John, I live on the Peconic Bay. Can you recommend where you purchased the chum and squid. I have an order in for the rod and reel you showed in the video. Unfortunately the chum pot listed is out of stock, hopefully I can find one locally. Looking forward to some good fishing this year. Thanks
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Hi John. Usually during the full moon in May we will get our squid run. It has slowed considerably over the years and my local bait shop guy goes to the Cape now where it is very good. We will get a sand eel hatch soon and that will trigger some good fluking. Best of luck from Newport.
John, those are nice Porgies. But I have never eatin them before. Are they really that good? What's the flavor and texture of their meat taste like? Also, dont know if you can or will answer this last question, but that large grip handle on your reel, do you have a link for that? I did not see it or maybe I somehow missed it. Thank you in advance.
