thank you so much professor, I am currently writing my graduation thesis about "Introducing the background and technical methods of the extraction, isolation, and purification of plant in natural chemistry" your presentation and reference materials highly useful. Thanks again!
i do a similar process at home but... I soak dry frozen material in cold iso 99% for 20mins then use a temperature controlled distiller to reduce the tincture at 79C until its down to around 100ml, then put it into a vacuum chamber to cold purge the rest of the iso out. the entire process takes around 8hrs. I end up with a thick taffy that is golden honey clear or with a reddish tint depending on the strain. very close to bho butter but much more yield at lower cost and i recover 70% of the alcohol.
@@sugardaddygaming4633 typically I am growing indoors in a grow tent so my plants are what i would call medium-size. I trim it down and keep the biggest buds separate (usually around 2oz) then i take the rest and screen it to get some kief to make some hash (around 20grams). the rest goes into the freezer to extract. so i would say usually around 4oz of trim and buds. with that i add around 2.5liters of iso. (it is usually broken down to almost power so it only takes up about 2liters of volume by that time) I then take it out of the distiller when it is down to about 100-200ml. by the time it is done, I am left with around 20grams. If I skip the dry-sifting step i may get up to 40grams of extract.
Absolutely 🔥. Except do it with frozen Plant Material and "Frozen" ethanol limits the chlorophylls, also you can shake you flowers with dry ice to break off all the tricombs and just use the powder and smoke the flower aswell.
I need assistance I read you multiple different articles people are talking about decarbing The weed .. The here's the thing I forgot to decarb my weed and I put a pound in a Mason jar and Field it with everclear could you help me with the remaining steps
Glad you liked it! Equipment is ever changing ("updating") and not sure what restrictions may be getting to the Caribbean, but use this video content as a starting point.
Excellent video, Doctor, very good content. I have a question: What proportion of dry flower mass to volume of 96° alcohol is recommended for an efficient extraction? Thanks!
What are the recommended alcohols and % to use? If an alcohol is 99% alcohol, can't the remaining 1% be considered a toxic residue? In this case, would it be more recommended to use grain alcohol? as grain alcohol is recommended for use in the food industry.
I am looking to get into cryogenic ethanol extraction on a larger scale in Minnesota. Is there anyway I could have a copy of the slide deck that you use in this video?
Hello professor. Thank you for the great content. Can you please elaborate on the post processing after Alcohol extraction in order to achieve a high quality tincture? Thank you
do MCT oil tincture instead in the case of cannabis, the MCT oil is triglyceride which means there is more thc can be bound with. It's slower... way slower process to make it, but worth it. Google what "slow maceration" is and do just that.
Hi. Im use toulene or acetone but no think who is a the best? Toulene not polar soulente but dissoulene weed and acetone made it. What a the best dissoulente of THC?
Question when you distill the ethanol can you reuse the ethanol that is extracted or is their to many impurities that go along with it. It seems like you could but might sacrifice flavor more possibly.
@@DeBaccoUniversity That's the conclusion I've reached as well. I'll likely do a short path distillation run to separate out terpenes and cannabinoids from the remaining compounds.
It can be used, but it would not be recommended due to the inclusion of other solvents that are added. "Denatured ethanol is a form of ethanol that is diluted with other solvents such as acetone or IPA. Denatured ethanol can be used in extraction processes and is often utilized by any extractors looking to avoid the higher costs associated with using pure ethanol." ecolink.com/info/denatured-ethanol-for-extraction/
Everyone who enjoys smoking oxidized chlorophyll stand up and wave. (sits down, hands in lap...) A combination of activated charcoal and celite filtration can work miracles but proper distillation of the full spectrum extract works best to remove chlorophyll IME. Properly purged BHO is a much better "homeowner" extraction method for a lot of reasons.
So over here they say that condenser is a "still" and you are "brewing, distilling Alcohol" I don't agree with this. What do you do to keep stupid police away from you?

That is amazing!
How much green and iso do u use

Great tip thanks for adding this detail.
Closed loop ethanol blasting systems make the process much safer and easier. CAPNA makes a pretty great system.
Thanks for sharing and safety is a very important consideration.
Sweet ,looks exp.
Thanks!
I use everclear for extraction... learned how to do this in the 1970's
That falls into the alcohol category;-)

Take a look at this article... www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9786071/ it suggests a cannabis-to-ethanol ratio of 1:15.
@@DeBaccoUniversity thanks for your reply Dr. I'll gonna check it out. Regards!

Sure, check out the description for a direct link to the slides.
What is the best moisture content (rh ) of the plant material for an optimal extraction? Thank you for your video.
Most dry flower is dried down to under 10% moisture content.
Thank you so much, I wanted to know if cannabis naturally contained high amounts of starch?

Typically a form of distillation to separate out the different components of the initial crude extract.

Upd. For THC. im sorry of my english im past learn his only in school. hello from Russia
Ethanol is the preferred material to use.
Do u have to decarb for it to have effects when adding it to gummy’s
Decarb form is the active form.
The answer to your question is yes.
Do you need to cook the plant first? To active the properties of the plant. Then soak it??
Not needed prior to initial soak.

If you refine it to remove impurities and the law allows.
Cool🎉!
Glad you liked it!
hey so if I could do this with just ethanol(everclear) in a mason jar, could I still do this?
Not quite the same.
Assuming the final product has a substantial quantity of chlorophyll, are there any methods you'd recommend to remove it?
Ethanol will help with this.
@@DeBaccoUniversity That's the conclusion I've reached as well. I'll likely do a short path distillation run to separate out terpenes and cannabinoids from the remaining compounds.
good
Thanks!
I've heard you are only supposed to let it sit for 1 day
What advantage does this offer?
can u use wet trim to make the extract with alcohol??
Best used with dry material... www.alchimiaweb.com/blogen/cannabis-extractions-alcohol/
Do we have a wax after alcohol extraction?
Typically it is an oil (lipid) based end product.
Can I use denatured ethanol for extraction? Will it be safe after evaporation?
It can be used, but it would not be recommended due to the inclusion of other solvents that are added. So decarb to eat. Dont decarb to smoke?
The ignition process will decarb it.
Maybe a silly question but does the alcohol remain in the final product ie can it get someone drunk?
In short.... no.
Is this possible for mushroom extraction?
It can depend on the compound that is trying to be isolated.
1:51 Quality of the extraction?
Not sure what you are asking? This tar like substance is the goal and that end oil can determine the final product quality.

I did this. I got $50 worth after spending over $100 on on ethanol. What a waste.
If you recover the ethanol it can be reused which saves money in the long run.
very limited in scope..
Just like the comment.
You have to use 200% organic ethanol
Use with caution
Hard to get more than 100% of anything;-)
