Pump E-85 performance varies on where you live at. The further up North you go, the less ethanol you have (which means lower octane). They do this, so your car will run in sub-zero temperatures. Further down South you go, the more ethanol you have. It's always warmer in the South, therefore more ethanol is added (which is higher octane). But there isn't as many stations in the South, so it boils down to season change. IMO, it would be better to run on normal gas in the Winter time. Only run E85 during Spring, and Summer.
I have ran pump e85, c85, and One ethanol R in my new 13:1 voodoo and the car loves c85 the best. Runs better, sounds better, makes more power and the burn is significantly better in my application. Nothing bad to say about One R, but the octane is a bit too high for my application, and seems to make my throttle a little sluggish, and the burn doesn’t seem as complete. Sticking to c85 all the way
Best advertisement ever for pump e85. I think pump e85 is all you need. If you need more power just add 1or 2 lbs of boost. We’re already making 1300 hp on a 6.0 at 24 pounds pump E85. Not much need to change fuel change fuel, especially since pump e85 here in California is so cheap and test out exactly 85% ethanol. I’m sure e98 or c85 will make a lot more power boosted but can’t justify the cost. We’re already making as much power as the chassis can handle.
You sure it’s always 85? I live in Indiana where a lot of corn is grown, and I know ours is not always 85 percent. I’m even lucky enough to live by an ethanol plant called ibec that’s has a pump and it’s e90 all summer long but drops sometimes in the winter. With vp and sunco. You know it’s always the percentage they say, where as the pump is not always consistent

I know someone just tested Nitro Top Fuel I think it's $399 for 5 gallons they took a beat-up LS1 5.3 lm7 did a dino number Maid 279 HP 303 foot pounds of torque... did not touch timing or anything I think... just adding the fuel in hit the Dino and I think the next pass was 500 + horsepower
@hopebrowning6300take a Top Fuel Hemi and run it on alcohol and you'll drop 50% horsepower. The shit literally doubles the power of the engine. So that sounds about right. Top Fuel funnycar, 11,000 to 12,000hp, Top Alcohol funnycar, 5000 to 6000hp. Not much difference in the vehicles or engines.
Nitro is an odd ball. I heard nhra guys say you can put a flame to nitro that is poured on the ground, and nothing will happen. However, in an ICE with force induction, that's where the nitro works as it is formulated to perform.
Ok, so these are basically souped up blends. Of course, they will make more power. Also, an independent test from an unbiased 3rd party makes more sense without the manufacturer present. IMHO, pump E85 with content E sensor and flex fuel is the most cost effective. If need be add some X98 to bring it up in ethanol %.
Looking at their pamphlet, VP always claims X% over other fuels. I've never seen real gains other than CHP+ and Q-16. C-12 compared to VP113 were identical in my combo, with C-12 taking the win as a fuel you can forget practically for years in the cell whereas the VP113 has special storage requirements. FWIW all the Q-16 tests I've run were worth 5 to 15 HP over the base fuel the engine was tested on.
That was due to the engine never being able to warm up before it reaches it distination aka very short trip drives, which an issue most problematic on E85 due to the higher moisture in the fuel compared to pump gas and that moisture gets into the oil to make that jello. MotoIQ made that clear. If you do drive for more than 8 minutes then it aint an issue.
Just make sure you heat your engine up really well 10 minutes or more every time you start. The ethanol causes condensation and a cold engine won't burn out the moisture. That moisture if not burned off will make your oil milky and sludgy.
$13.40 per gallon for X85L and $17.00 per gallon for C85 compared to $3.35 per gallon for pump shell where I live. Your prices are higher then giraffe pussy for what little increase of performance you get.
Nitromethane and MTBE.. ok, now I know why the 1050 Dominator I loaned to a guy came back a useless corroded wreck. I run E85 and E100 that I make from cattails in my carbs and fuel systems without issues for years, the 70 GTO has been on it since 2007. Seeing the difference between the fuel I make, 190proof straight ethanol, and anything mixed with gasoline, it appears that Jeff Smith is right.. additives cause corrosion. So if you're going to run C85, treat it like methanol with after run oil and not letting it sit, even overnight. My 65 GTO has been on E85/E100 since 2018, no issues and I pull the battery in October then put it back in the car in May. Its had Qjets and Holleys I convert, as well as FiTech EFI on its 11.5:1 iron headed 455 that makes around 550hp. Its been my tuning mule that I use to set up carbs for other engines. I like the frost and condensation on the outside of my 6-71 case while running my 505ci Pontiac in my 68 LeMans, that I get from running E85. My friends running pump gas have issues with the blower getting hot while driving, but I don't. As for consistency, the lighter parts of gasoline will evaporate off if you let it sit in a barrel for a while (a few months), it comes out to around E90 when I do that. So I will stick with the $2 pump stuff rather than paying $10 or more for the VP fuel. I ran VP red in the 1990s in one of my cars, never had a problem other than rubber hoses needing replaced every other year, and it ran pretty good. Also, since I can produce ethanol for about 40 cents a gallon, the cost of which is mostly cleaning supplies and yeast/enzymes, I just can't justify $10+ for fuel.
If you would have told us this review would be biust I wouldn't have wasted my time, I'll stick to my pump E85 instead of 30 dollars a gallon. NA. I'm good.
Paying for a fuel like X98 just to pick up 15HP, along with needing to change your base fuel just flat out isn't worth it for the large majority of people. You're wayy more financially better off taking 75lbs of weight off the car or throwing a cheap dry kit on and spraying a 50 shot.
Then you are over fueling. Getting too much ethanol and n the oil. Another reason not to run it. Engine wear. Same with the drag engines I’ve worked with.

Take a 150hp motorcycle engine and run it on 98% nitromethaine and it'll make 300+hp.

This test should have been done with a turbo engine. This would have allowed us to really see the power differences between each type of ethanol.

Don't think you'll see a major difference not under boost. I think it's a solid alternative with proper mods to your fuel system

Just filled up with E-85 that tested at E-79 for $3.12 a gallon , switched from pump 91 octane a while back , I'll never go back to 91 octane .

Heavily dependent on the area. But it can generally be found in most populated areas. You might just need to drive 30-60 mins to get it

You dont need to change the fueling if your ecu is setup correctly with a flex sensor. But yeah, not worth it on these type of engines.
