How Long Can I Keep Up With A RIDERS In a Mixed Race?

  • Another Zwift Epic Race, another try to keep up with the A group. Will I be able to go longer than in the previous race?

    My name is Adam, I am 35 years old and I am a former marathon runner who shifted his focus on ZWIFT CYCLING.
    Road to A is a channel focused on INDOOR ZWIFT RACING with the ultimate goal of reaching the A+ CATEGORY. Is it progression realistic? Maybe. I'll need to train a lot and lose a lot of weight, too. However, I believe the BIGGEST LIMITATIONS riders (and athletes in general) have are those they put on themselves and this channel is my way to prove that idea. If you feel like you are riding (or living) BENEATH YOUR POTENTIAL, you need to tag along! The destination is clear but the journey won't be easy.
    Currently I am racing in B CATEGORY.

    As for my ZWIFT SETUP - I am riding on a ZWIFT HUB ONE indoor trainer. Steering can give you pretty substantial advantage during the racing and for that I am using the ZWIFT PLAY controllers. I use these for virtual shifting as well and to make sure I'll be covered if they run out of battery or generally stopped working, I've got the ZWIFT CLICK as well. I am running my Zwift in 4K and using the ULTRA settings.

    Good job on the weight loss! 🎉. For Everest recommend: Alp, change bibs every 3 hours (2 climbs), you can do a quick shower on descent, get off bike on descent, don’t exceed 2.0 w/kg except when standing up to take weight off butt, fuel constantly as you cannot uptake faster than you use glucose, I cannot breathe and eat, so I use liquid fuel, two types of glucose, electrolytes, protein and fat (hammer perpetuam) keep your stomach full. Also used water. Try to keep your body heat right where you break your sweat so you don’t dehydrate too quickly. I rode 500km with this technique. You can eat other foods to break up the routine, French fries and soda in the last hour was amazing. Good luck.

      Thank you so much for the advice! Only thing I am not sure is the 2 wkg thing, that seems like it would take forever, don't you think?

      Watch your heart rate and target your wattage. I like to stay at 135 or less for several hours of riding. Above that and it runs away higher and you can’t get it down easily.

    Good effort and good decision to shut it down when you did. Listen to your body and take the time to sort things out, if that means pushing off the Everesting attempt you should consider it! But I know it's a big goal. Good luck either way.

    I did the Everesting challenge, and I’d say I never fully trained by doing more then 5 laps of the alpe any one time. Most was 4 laps a few times a week.
    Tips… change of socks(at least 2pairs) extra pair of bibs. These makes you feel better and fresh. Eat always on the descent. It took me 10hrs but I would really love to try again.. it’s important to be in the right frame of mind .. Best of luck 🤞
    ATM I’m doing 100km daily’s
    I recorded my challenge too posted on here.. I doubt many would sit there watching 10hrs of someone stationary on a bike 😂

      I will be nowhere near that level of training when I attempt it. So in the end it might be a total disaster. :D

      @@RoadtoA you get about 9mins on the alpe in the descent, I’d suggest getting off the bike and stretch, eat, loo break.. it all helps. If you are doing the challenge on 21st, you (might) find less people around you… I’d pop in but sadly I’m working GMT so I’ll just give ya encouragement in your live YT 👍💪
