In Becky's last vlog, she showed you a tour of her 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van, and talked about everything that was wrong with it, so it's time to get to work! In this video, Becky and Austin replace the car starter and repair the breaks.

Austin’s ‘mirror’ is perfection. Also whoever edited this is epic
the resemblance is uncanny
I ❤ this too 😂
The no no bird head shake was brilliant imo
Austin could totally do his own videos!! So fun
if you haven't seen it already watch this video that he made : th-cam.com/video/DyGvBAwdZ-4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7ObSMzRAkhVw5680
We need his series 😂😂❤
Came for a Sorry vlog, stayed for Austin👏🏻
As someone who started following you all for the DIY content, I'm surprisingly really enjoying the side quest into car building! I have no real interest in cars so it's not something I would have sought out on its own, so its great to have the opportunity to learn more about it with creators I'm already invested in and genuinely find very funny and engaging. Not that I would go out and repair my own car, but I left this video understanding more about brakes, and would feel a lot more confident talking with my mechanic when inevitable car repairs are needed.
Austin’s sense of humor is top notch! 😂 You should start a The Sorry Guys side channel for him and Elliot.
I genuinely would love to see an Austin-centric series of how-to vids for cars. I really appreciate the easy way he breaks steps down, and explains how and why things work. It felt like he was teaching instead of just talking at the camera.
Love watching you and Austin work together. I think it’s great that you really try to be as sustainable as you can. I can’t wait for the inside to be done!! Great job Austin and Becky!💖💖💖
we can't wait either!!
Austin being a SorryGuy is sooooo good! I’ve always heard some of those automotive terms, but seeing someone actually work on them was so cool. Great video guys!!! Love the updates!
Austin’s energy and humour are everything!!
Re: what Becky said about cars and sustainability, I know cars aren’t the best for the environment but I absolutely love the fact that you can essentially repair a car forever. I bought my current car used with 200k miles on it and it still runs great! Plus it’s less environmental impact than a brand new one
I love this series! It's so fun to see Becky and Austin working together, literally couples goals!
“What size hammer do we need!?” 😂😂 I cackled a little too loud at that. Austin’s dry humor is hilarious
I feel like a Q&A time with Austin is needed! Dude you are soooo skilled! Where did you learn all of that? How? Where are you at with your other car (the Camaro if I recall from a vlog years ago)? The people deserves to know 😂
Austin fixing the brakes was highly entertaining. Nothing better than a man who knows his way around a vehicle.
One has to appreciate a man that is handy. They're very few in today's generation... 👍 If you have a handy hubby. Well done austin
I'm loving this vehicle renovation/ repair series 😂 this could definitely be on the main channel
One of the greatest things about old VW's is how easily you can fix the engine. It's often a big old chore, but the parts make sense, even to those of us (like me) who don't really understand engines terribly well.
Instantly obsessed with this series!! I didn't know Austin was a mechanic - what a perfect project for you two!!
I am LOVING the sorry squad expanding into different content and projects. Very excited to see this series
I have such VW van nostalgia... When I was a kid in the 80s, my mum drove a 70s VW van (not a camper, just a van). We sadly got rid of it when I was around 7-8 after it broke down on the highway several times. And when I was 5, my parents took all of us (me and 2 younger siblings) to Europe (mostly Germany, Netherlands and Austria) for a summer. My dad had to go for work and we lived in a westfalia camper van with a pop-top. We had a tent vestibule where my brother slept in a travel crib and my sister and I slept in the top bed. We had so many adventures, and also I think my parents were a bit nuts for doing this... But my mum said it was way less crazy than her being stuck at home alone with 3 little kids...
It is ALWAYS fun when you two do a video together. I know I’ll be smiling and laughing a lot! 😁
Oh! Who’s editing this? It suits the vibes perfectly! ❤️👍
I’m in the process of building out my second van, it’s a 96’ Chevy G30, my first one was a 95’. I’m not a van lifer, my vans are more in the realm of 70’s Shaggin wagons. Custom for comfort. I have so many ideas for my van, I’m so antsy to do things but you know time and money are needed lol. One thing at a time! Getting the important things done, the stuff necessary for it to operate properly, then the fun stuff!
In the UK it's completely normal to learn and pass your test with manual. It's actually not that common someone driving an automatic, usually older people who switch to automatic to make it easier for them. Manual is super easy once you get it :)
Now I know how brakes work! Great video, so glad I didn’t skip it! Becky, I learned to drive on a stick-shift, which is what we called it back in the ‘70s (USA). It’s EASY. Just takes a little coordination and practice; just like learning to ride a bike but you won’t get skinned knees!
I am sooooo glad I learned ti drive stick-shift. It is actually a good skill to have.
@@paulas_lens yes! Although not needed much anymore. I had to sell an older sports car when my knees just could not take the shifting.
I’ve been looking at VW buses to revive and use as a wedding “prop” or food service vehicle and there are surprisingly few videos about it on TH-cam. I forgot you got this! Excited for the journey.
Oh yes! This was awesome :) My dad was a car mechanic for most of his career, so it's nice to see a small example of what he might have been doing in the shop. That smell of the grease and the oil and the buzzing of power tools gives me a sense of peace/contentment that only a mechanic's daughter would have haha...
Love having Austin in videos with you! You guys are adorable. 😊
Your hubby’s got Ken energy when working out 🏋️♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel like I learned a lot in this video! Also in movies whenever someone was like “the cut the brake line” I was always like …what does that mean!?! And now I know what a brake line is! I feel like these videos will legit help me when I have to bring my car into the shop
Oh gosh this van when you get it finished will be so amazing, I remember when my kids were young we had one of these vans it was blue and white and I have known how to drive a manual vehicle since I first learned how to drive when I was 16 years old. My kids really loved riding in this van and then when they got older we just sold it, but I still wish that I had it because it really was a lot of fun to drive. Thanks so much for sharing this really fun video and I am excited to see more work on it. Have a beautiful day, sending love and hugs. 😂🥰🤗👏🙏💜💜
Omg Kara and Nate just put out a video about Nate taking a trip with his Pop in his 1970 VW camper van, which he restored. It's such a sweet episode and the van is gorgeous. It will give you all the feels ❤❤❤
Never would I have imagined watching a car repair vid would be exciting. I loved it!!
Austin and Becky are so cute together! Couple goals.
When I was learning stick shift, I sat in my car without starting it and learned the clutch and gear shift. It helps when you go to actually drive.
Just sit and press the clutch in and out, it will help you learn its “catch spot”
Then sit for awhile with the clutch pushed down and go through the gears, and back. It will help you when you start driving to know the layout. I would also say the gears out loud as I went through them.
I hope this helps, I did this after a week of stalling out on the road.
We need more videos of Austin explaining car mechanics to us..
Austin’s garage is giving kens mojo dojo casa house realness and i love it
AUSTIN AND BECKY ARE MY FAV 💕
The part where y’all are asking what size we thought a starter would be 😆
I actually knew ahead of time, but it is so funny to hear y’all thought it would he so small at first!
Is it weird that I would love to see more of this detailed automotive work from Austin?!! Future TH-camr orrrrrr?👀🤣👏🏼👏🏼
So happy you guys are sharing this. I’m sure you might find most TSG members are not inclined towards car building but you both do make up for it. So nice also to see Austin taking the lead here and Becky who know all things home DIY is now the student. Good luck you two ❤
Adore Austin! Bet he makes friends wherever he goes. I thought I wouldn’t be interested in this series because I’ll not into cars. But I really enjoyed watching this. I found the brake replacement fascinating- such a surprise! Now I’ll make sure I never miss an episode.
As a public health professional who loves your channel - please please wear seatbelts (and likely you should replace the ones you have).
loving the danny cameos!! sweetest helper
I'm LOVING this van content. I've always been curious about restoring a vehicle and you both do such a great job of talking us through the process, it really makes it feel less intimidating. Makes me want to take a mechanics course!
I ❤ Becky+Austin < need that as a bumper sticker 😂 You guys interactions are So much fun. Tell Austin's Ukrainian friend that you two are a thing people could watch all the time! Love Becky's Aerosmith tee🤘. And Austin "was going to get a mirror but this was cheaper & basically the same thing" 😅😂 Loved this!
The “mirror”!!! Such a smiley vid
Love that it’s “push” start
Thanks for showing us all that, Bec and Austin! I had 3 older brothers and my dad fixing cars and apart from their misogynistic comments (‘you don’t want to get your hands dirty’ etc) they always made out it was sooo difficult. Right tools, knowledge and anyone can do it!❤️✨
High Five that last sentence if yours!!!
I love this series so much!!! I actually own and restored two VW with my husband. Please consider do a Subaru swap for the motor. Now you can also change the transmission to automatic so would be easer to drive for you. Learning manual in a vintage car is pretty stressful.
The baby Danny photo 🥹 so cute! Also Austin is hilarious, always love when he makes an appearance in your videos. You two are quite the dynamic duo 🔥
I’m in love with Danny! And Austin is a magician!
Austin is my new favorite Sorry Girl!
Austin’s mirror joke made my day so much 😂
Your little mechanic outfit is giving April O’Neil from TMNT!
When Becky showed how they started the car. I had a flashback to a girls’ road trip in my thirties where we travelled from Montreal to Maine Coast with no starter. The funniest part was getting gas and forgetting the starter was broken then quickly getting out and pushing the car to start. The looks we got😂. Good luck with this reno.
In the 90s I was a flight attendant for Delta here in LA and I had a vw cabriolet and twice a week I had to start it like that to get to the airport!
Austin is so entertaining 😂! Love the two of you btw oh and of course the fluffy kiddo Danny boi
when you were pushing the van the first thing that came to my mind was little miss sunshine!
No way 😲 I had a ukranian colleague about 12 years ago and he told me the exact same thing. Every time i didn't show up on time for our coffee break he came looking for me, standing in the doorway and telling me he could watch those three things forever...but first we should have breakfast and coffee 😁
I'm very excited to see how your Van will turn out and really love to see the progress.
Lots of love from Germany 💌
Sorry Guy is a great addition!
THIS IS SUCH A FUN SERIES
learning on a broken clutch will make you great at manual. i got used to my shotty clutch and never even fixed it
Its the transmission and the tires that you'll wear out lol. I wore out a pair of tires in 6 months because i peeled out SO MUCH when I was learning. I literally did the bucking bronco at stop signs and had people doubled over on the sidewalk because they were laughing so hard. You will be fine! OMG the photo being basically the same thing as a mirror. Your husband is hilarious. You can tell he's one of those naturally funny people.
That scene of the push start, THAT right there WAS the 70s 😂
Thank You, for I was my Dad's grease monkey helper. Back in the day, the military wanted me for the mechanic skills I had. Women were starting to get recognized for more positions. What wonderful memories. Good job guys!!
Austin is a legend! So hilarious🤩
Austin needs to do more videos!
This was so much fun! I like Austins humor and as the daughter of a car mechanic this was the first time I actually enjoyed learning something about car mechanics. I am already invested in this series!
And in case you wanna know, the V in Volkswagen is pronounced like an F in German.
Austin is my favorite Sorry Girl
As somebody who works on cars the detail in the brake job he did was just *chef’s kiss*
love the energy! i wasnt into cars before but now i am!
How is Austin gonna try to tell us he's not smiley? Even Danny smiles in y'alls family! ❤
I absolutely LOVE an Austin video! 🎉 Also... that vaaannnn! 😍😍😍😍😍
What a freaking awesome video you guys!! I love having Austin put his face in front of the camera. Cars have always been such a mystery to me and it is wonderful to see details of how it all works. You guys make it so friendly and so…..yes, entertaining!! Thank you!! And yes, kudos to the editor and kudos to the camera people.😊
My only suggestion is to wear protective glasses. Yu don't want the rust from under the van falling in your eyes. I am so excited for this series!
Austin is so dreamy
Awesome brake job Austin.
The reason your starter is smaller than the original is because at the time of manufacture, your van would might have used a Direct drive starter (or maybe a gear reduction starter), but these days we can use magnets to shrink the starter! Its real cool tech actually, if you're interested!
I am seriously loving your van series❣️❣️❣️
THANK U FOR ALL THE DANNY CONTENT!!!! HES ADORABLE TELL HIM I SAID HELLO AND GIVE HIM PETS PLEASE
I love this. I know very little about the mechanics of cars but this is a really approachable way to learn a bit.
You're such a sweet couple 🥰 And watching someone work sure is entertaining.
Yesssss I’ve been waiting for this update 😊
I swear on Danny Boy is a pretty good way of stating truth. Who would doubt the truth of that statement?
Is Austin actually a mechanic or...??? What does Austin do for a living?!?
iirc becky said that she gets wood scraps from austin’s job so i assume he’s a logger or woodworker? and she said he restored a car once so he has experience in mechanical work from that :)
I *think* he works for STIHL
I've never watched someone working on a vehicle so this was super fascinating for me! I learned a lot! Thanks guys:) Definitely looking forward to the rest of the restoration
Rockauto is great! We order all parts we can from them. I worked in a motorshop where they rewound and rebuilt all sizes of parts.
I've ordered tons for my own car and for my family's business fleet of vans from rockauto over the years..... HOWEVER I recently had the most nightmarish experience with rockauto UAC Radiators.... First one was defective.... Replacement was defective..... And the second replacement was defective again ,all leaking from the same seam. I wasted so much money in labor with my mechanic, just because I tried to save a buck buying a radiator from rockauto. My mechanic said rockauto is great for alot of things, but never radiators ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Ended up going NAPA because if the part is defective, they also pay for his labor to replace it.
@@amaiaamaiaa we replaced a radiator on my Pathfinder. BF would not listen to me to bleed off air bubbles, and blew the motor.
@@peggynorton5145 I FEEL YOU. I had a bunch of radiator hose bursts and my dad and I redid the hoses and refilled the radiator. I kept telling him we need to burp it, I bought the special burping funnel, he said he'd never heard of that and I didn't know what I was talking about and that it was unnecessary and no one does that. So we didn't do it the first time. Radiator kept overheating and hoses kept bursting. Then when he reads about it on his own on the internet, he proposes it to me like it was a brand new idea. MEN.
I love this!! I used to change my own points and plugs back in the day, shout out to my Bro Jeff for teaching me...
That was a fun video! I didn't expect to like it, but I did. Humor, cute dog, and restoration, how could you go wrong with all that?
That's exactly how my family got many VWs to start.
😎VW. Austin has a great sense of humor.
Woohoo!! So excited for you!!
Omg I never thought I'd ever be interested in a guy messing with an engine etc but this was great😂can't wait for the next vidio❤❤
I love this series and can't wait to see more! It's fascinating to see this being done, and see parts I know the names of but not how they look or the process for changing them out. You both are rocking it!
I've played a lot of Car Mechanic simulator and it's made me want to learn about cars so I've watched a lot of mechanic basics- it was so fun to have it included in SorryGirls stuff! I wish I could get my hands on a project like this, DIYing your own car seems so fun although I'm sure very difficult without a mechanic husband lmao. Would love more content like this!
Like the tall bird house on the top shelf
becky got it on an online estate sale in this video!! th-cam.com/video/UbQ1-ih468g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XSEvysA8RLyAjAEV
Great job Becky and Austin!!! Love the video, Austin is hilarious. Can't wait for the automobile flea!!
I had to pop the clutch in reverse because our VW rabbit diesel wouldn’t start in the cold. Had to carry ether too.
Very excited can't wait so cool
Entertaining and very educational too!!!
Cute Video! You two work so well together
