You're welcome! I completely agree with the idea that we shouldn't let other people's opinions dictate our actions. It's something that takes practice, especially in a world so focused on external validation. How do you personally deal with the pressure to conform, especially when those opinions seem to come from people close to you?
I believe like anything in life, what you surround yourself with, is what you take on. You are free to choose what ever path you take, but it also means you are bound to the weight of those decisions. Meaning, we know that in excess of anything, we are bound to receive a negative outcome, or what seemed like a path of exploration becomes burdensome. Where you have to put thoughtful actions to get yourself out of the situation, then avoiding it entirely and not taking up that burden. Without the adventure, you would miss the shot that "could" possibly have turned into wisdom, but you also must know that you can sometimes pick a path, where you have to put time and energy to simply re-align yourself. As you can tell, if you do nothing but make bad decisions, well your then going to have a period of time where you all you can do is work at getting yourself out (which can be seen as a waste of time). But that the duality of choice!

Thank you for such an insightful exploration of timeless wisdom. The thread connecting these philosophers is profound-authenticity over conformity, self-reliance over external validation. It's fascinating how they converge despite their unique contexts, from Marcus Aurelius' calm resilience to Nietzsche's bold overman. I think one of the most powerful lessons from stoicism is realizing that other people's opinions are out of our control, and yet, we often let them shape our actions. Do you find that focusing on your own values and actions helps you care less about external judgment?
When we are children, we let our imaginations run wild and pretend to be who we want to be especially superheroes and are happy with our imagination, but as we get older, we now have to follow all these arbitrary rules that were created by people who were smarter than you and Iand now we have to worry what others think of us we have to worry we look how we do things what we say, without being discriminated or ashamed, but in reality, we are just following all these made up rules by a person who is no smarter than you
As I am a lover of knowledge, I am a philosopher in my own right. With that said, the love of knowledge is something uniquely personal...specific to one person (no one size fits all here). Those who have gone before us, with their unique preponderance, can help light the way, but ultimately, true knowing is an individual thing. Such is the most beautiful thing in the evolution of knowledge: it is always found upon our unique journey to ourselves, which is to say the journey of All things.
Yet, I want to add here...and this is quite important...the opinion of others, though mediated by the apt thinker, shouldn't be dismissed out of hand, as, as was said on this very video, we are all inexorably interdependent. And so, the opinions of the so-called sheep have their gravity in kind, which is exactly how it should be in a wondrous Universal of all things coming, and going, and eternally becoming something new.
The idea of not caring about what others think is empowering, but doesn’t complete indifference risk isolating us from valuable feedback? Isn’t there a balance between staying authentic and considering others’ perspectives to grow and connect meaningfully?
I completely agree with your point about how caring too much about others' opinions can be limiting. It's a common struggle, but as Stoics would say, our peace of mind depends on our ability to control what we can-our thoughts and actions-not external judgments. Have you ever tried practicing any specific Stoic exercises to detach from the need for external validation?
Love this one I used to care now I careless my crying saw me crying in tears she said baby the hell what people think I’m stronger now man I miss Grandma she could tamp into me like nobody else 😢

So what do you subscribe too? Because being stoic; (which is the rock in the raging sea), is not being emotional spewing volcanic energy. So I’m curious. Because I thought there was either stoicism; or emotionally damaged characters?
@Ripkittymi Christianity is separate from Stoicism. However, they are both rooted in morality. Stoicism follows the morality of self-effort, whereas Christianity follows the morality of God's ways and becoming righteous through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who paid the price for their unmoral self.
Well I don't care about Philosophers, AND I don't care what you think about them. And yet, here we sit by this lovely campfire, telling ghost stories. You next my friend. The Bones Within Speak. :D
LOL. I was having a conversation with someone about philosophy, and I stated that it's a very priveleged person who can afford to take a degree which is largely useless in daily life, and won't lead to any well-paid job. I knew they were a fervent socialist, and worked on a zero-hour contract for Amazon. It was at that point that they told me they'd taken a philosophy degree. I got ghosted from that point, I'm guessing they weren't so good at applying philosophy to their own life.
Thank you so much for these videos. I don't know if you have already covered him on this channel, but it might be interesting to look at the life of Scottish-American writer and ecologist John Muir. Much like many of the philosophers in this video, Muir also withdrew from society and its expectations, choosing to spend much of his life as a vagabond in nature, despite being a brillant inventor with the potential to hit it rich. He was very skeptical of the industrialization and rapid consumption of the time and spent much of his later years advocating for the protection of America's natural landscapes. He is often considered the father of the national park system in the United States. Just some food for thought.
This has become an irksome cliche. Everyone to varying extents cares what people think of them, unless they are a latter-day Diogenes with no dignity or honour. As social creatures, humans are largely defined by how they relate to each other. The notion of the self-defined, self-autonomous individual is a very recent Anglo-American concept that is totally alien to a vast majority of the human experience. I would say: care more about what those you value think of you, as opposed to seeking validation among the madness of crowds.
The Nietzsche part is intersting because all most of us know is the herd mentality and conformity. It is hard to even fathom a drastically different life from the one we are so used to living. This part of the video really got me thinking, and I am certainly going to dive into this concept further.
Great video and conclusion. I have been very validated watching this channel. I must point out, however, that IMITATION is at first necessary for most people to learn/recognize the shortcomings of "being sheep." We first imitate our parents, siblings and individual family members in certain behaviors. Then we follow and sometimes imitate our school teachers as they give us local "facts," customs, reading and writing skills, and an initial setup of the world around us. It is after we've had some time to absorb, fit in, test and reflect on society and history that we BEGIN to form opinions, habits and attitudes that diverge (ideally without abandoning anyone in our family). There is intuition and some diverge earlier, as I did. But I believe I balanced both divergence and conformity (to make money and fulfill my ambitions, support a family and earn a pension, like most) for 22 years and was vested in a pension before I quit and began working creatively (and stoically) just outside my industry. I would credit imitation wholeheartedly as the principal way I learned ANYTHING. And at times, I probably even imitated Diogenes. I believe that alternation between the two helps us progress individually, just like walking and running have us alternate feet, and breathing has us alternate in or out. Call it yin-yang or living with paradox, but life doesn't seem to be either-or for very long.
I suggest that you care less about how little others care for you and get on with your life. Find meaning in contributing towards the wellfare of the natural world - abused and neglected by man.
I'm glad I'm not a king like Marcus Aurelius, because I wouldn't want to continually have to generate the patience and cheerfulness he talks about in dealing with difficult people. I prefer to just ignore them (not an option for Marcus A). Fortunately, social media gives us easy options to put the dinkuses of the world on Ignore (and most "difficult encounters" happen on social media, at least in my experience).
As a small older woman with face tattoos and a shaved head I find that folk who are nice to me are genuinely almost always good people, because the rest are busy making funky assumptions about what I must obviously be. They're wrong but it does help weed out the good guys from the bad!
J. Krishnamurti once said that "it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." I think all of us non-conformists can agree. Thank you, as always!
Thank you Einzelgänger- we need to be reminded how easily and almost unnoticed we let the herd mentality rule our lives. I'm afraid that the Übermensch concept is but an ideal in a dream reality - human society is by far too flawed. I blame stagnant spiritual growth caused by adopted religion.

The avoidance of struggling leads to suffering
Well projected ❤
I completely agree with your point about how caring too much about others' opinions can be limiting. It's a common struggle, but as Stoics would say, our peace of mind depends on our ability to control what we can-our thoughts and actions-not external judgments. Have you ever tried practicing any specific Stoic exercises to detach from the need for external validation?
I learned more things about life from this channel than in my school
Love this one I used to care now I careless my crying saw me crying in tears she said baby the hell what people think I’m stronger now man I miss Grandma she could tamp into me like nobody else 😢
Most ppl don't think...thinking is hard work..."thinking is always that which we know we have not yet begun to do" (Derrida) but..." the unexamined life is not worth living " (Socrates).
Great video
I don't subscribe to Stoicism, but I do appreciate the beautiful artwork in your video! 😊
What does 'subscribe' mean? Did you know early Christianity beliefs are combined with Stoicism methods?
@Ripkittymi Perhaps you don't have access to a dictionary: "Subscribe (verb) express or feel agreement with." I never mentioned Christianity.
So what do you subscribe too? Because being stoic; (which is the rock in the raging sea), is not being emotional spewing volcanic energy. So I’m curious. Because I thought there was either stoicism; or emotionally damaged characters?
@thomashenshallhydraxis LOL. You're funny! 😅
@Ripkittymi Christianity is separate from Stoicism. However, they are both rooted in morality. Stoicism follows the morality of self-effort, whereas Christianity follows the morality of God's ways and becoming righteous through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who paid the price for their unmoral self.
i dont care what people think, i care what i think❤❤❤ 3:57
I don't care what people think, especially philosophers.
Well I don't care about Philosophers, AND I don't care what you think about them. And yet, here we sit by this lovely campfire, telling ghost stories. You next my friend. The Bones Within Speak. :D
I find caring about other people’s thoughts to be very tiresome.
People who take philosophy degrees are usually the worst at applying it.
*_I am the Common Denominator of all my Problems._* I hear the call to Adventure .. _WHO AM I?_
Thank you
Comfort is a dangerous disease
Good video. Thanks.
I wish people cared about me but often times seems like they don't care about anyone but themselves
I suggest that you care less about how little others care for you and get on with your life. Find meaning in contributing towards the wellfare of the natural world - abused and neglected by man.
I really love you man.
this is like some greatest hits video 🎉🎉
I used to ignore mostly everyone back when I was younger
Now for some reason I started caring …
Beautiful
I'm glad I'm not a king like Marcus Aurelius, because I wouldn't want to continually have to generate the patience and cheerfulness he talks about in dealing with difficult people. I prefer to just ignore them (not an option for Marcus A). Fortunately, social media gives us easy options to put the dinkuses of the world on Ignore (and most "difficult encounters" happen on social media, at least in my experience).
0:47, dealing with all this, I came to the same conclusion!!!!
"Why it isn't a choice... according to psychologists."
As a small older woman with face tattoos and a shaved head I find that folk who are nice to me are genuinely almost always good people, because the rest are busy making funky assumptions about what I must obviously be. They're wrong but it does help weed out the good guys from the bad!
good video, keep the channel going
Care about what other people think, and you will always be their prisoner - Lao Tzu
you should care...but not too much
be critical about it
I would be the happiest person on earth if my emotions listened to anything I say.

The best philosopher that you mentioned is my favorite.

Arthur Hübscher
Makes me wonder ... if one should not care about what other people think, should I place a like on this video and would Einzelgänger care if I don't?😂
Excellent comment. Every one thing that they are the right. A few get up to great mind when they Self criticize and self correct.
i like this right here
