I can't believe he's 60. Most artists peak at half his age. Michael Gira keeps on going and going
Contrariwise37 He’s Like a bottle of cognac; only gets better with age.
@ One less! RIP Scott! But man... Mark Lanegan, Jerry Cantrell, Tony Iommi, Pepper Keenan, Buzz Osborne,Phil Anselmo, Mike Patton, John Zorn, David Yow...lots of those motherfuckers out there!
As if an artist 'peaks'. Who says? You? Fuck off.
He's 65 now, wow...
Either him or Thom/Jonny are the GOAT
Reminds me of a bad dream where everything is normal, but I just constantly have an overwhelming feeling of distress
i feel ya
That's a really good description! I can totally get you
so tru
there are drugs for that😂😂😂take an ativan
You mean real life?
I love how this manages to sound both cartoonishly evil and soul-crushingly despondent at the same time. Such an amazing track from such an amazing album.
Ryan Duong very worth mentioning imo, i didn’t know that :)
Such a great way to describe it
Imagine listening while peaking on acid
Oh god no
@@morgboat744 I literally see you everywhere when I listen to music on TH-cam.
You know that feeling of finding something you never knew you really, really liked?
Exactly
You're such a doofus.
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I know.
Another awesome thing about this song is that if you listen with good headphones, when Gira says "Sing in reverse!" you can immediately hear faint backwards vocals that he tracked underneath him. Two years of loving this album and I just noticed it.
What does it say tho
This happens throughout the whole song, it's not just that one part
if you play this at double speed it sounds like primus lmaooooo
+Jack McMuscles Whahahahaha...... Made my day :D

I love how through all the noise and chaos, that funky bass line is still present
That art work and the song makes me think of a baby with the intelligence of an adult who just realized how the universe works and is having an existential crisis. And they're freaking out because they can't express how they feel cause they're a baby who can't talk yet
Rashotcake I always got that it was about a cruel uncaring selfish God that's abandoned us all.
why is the swans fanbase so emberassing
michael especially the pretentious ones who think their opinion is the only right one...
Goddamnit dude.
Sounds like boss baby.
I love how swans uses repetition of sound as a song structure. Then they just smack you square in the jugular with pure noise. Simply amazing. Really looking forward to this album!
did you like the album?

Did you like the album? Are you ready for a new swans album?

The way Gira sings “black chasm creeping, forever leaking” gets under my skin in a good way.
This song sounds like a drunken god contemplating his antfarm
+Andrés Celis Brilliant lol. Great album though.
+Barry King Along with "The Seer".
Andrés Celis you hit the snail on the nipple
The song is actually about a mortal holding a god in a infantile and enfeebled state. Kind of like the Voldemort fetus in Deathly Hallows Part 2.
Lololololol a happy drunk!
Oh yeah! Oh yeah! THE UNIVERSAAAL M-I-I-I-I-I-IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNND!!!!
The sample that cuts in at 4:10 is so weirdly creepy yet groovy as hell I love it
It reminds me of some voodoo shit.
I had a random dream last night where a bunch of famous bands were taking turns doing covers of this song.
Sounds like a great dream
what bands?
@@LiopleurodonFerox we may never know
one of them better have been my chem that would be insane lmao
Can you imagine the rhpc guy doing background vocals for thom yorke holy crap that would be awesome
An extremely difficult band to get into... but once it clicks, it's some of the best music out there.
The early 90s stuf is pretty accesible imo
I aint gonna lie, my father sent me one of their albums, I listened to it and it clicked soooo quickly. Just the type of things that makes me go
"Damn, if it wasn't for my dad, I'd have a shitty music taste."
@@TF43xTRICK bruh imagine having a dad that listens to swans

This is art. Music that unsettles is worthy of a second listen...
A second listen only? Man, this stuff is addictive!
Matt Chelesu try out the song Narrow with the Hall by the band Women
sounds like squidward saying 'future'

Getting a Rain Dogs era Tom Waits vibe from this, that is definitely a good thing.
I hadn't thought of that! But yeah, I feel it too!
Yeah, that intro is very "Rain Dog-ish" indeed :-)
That explosion of sound gets me every time!
Yeah I feel like it launches me into the sky
**first time listening**
Okay, i kinda like this track.
Hmm, it's getting to the end now, what await-

Took me several listens to “get” this album but now I can’t stop coming back to it
Universal..... MIIIIIIIIIYIIIYIIIYIIIIYIIIYIIIII!!!!!!
***** lol, i guess i just love everything
***** no problem
My first exposure to this band. The balls of that note at 1:32 and the follow through has completely won me over.
I like to imagine that they held focus groups to figure out exactly how long they could hold that chord before people would just shut off their stereos, and then Gira said, "Okay, let's do it for one bar less than that."
One, two, three, four
Pink little lamb on a granite slab
Black chasm creeping, forever leaking
Oh universe, sing in reverse
Oh sucking lung, we'll never come
Forever loving, forever waiting
Oh yeah, oh yeah, the universal mind
Eye full of sun, hand full of mud
Oh universe, you stink of love
Forever lazy, forever crazy
Forever holy, forever hungry
Forever hateful, forever beautiful
Forever needing, forever reaching
Forever stinking, forever breathing
Forever growing, forever leaving
Oh shit and blood, forever love
No ebb or flood will ever come
Oh shit and blood, forever love, love, love
Forever draining, forever leaving
What's my name? What's my name?
Oh yeah, oh yeah, the universal mind

I didn't think Swans could make an album cover than was even creepier than The Seer's, but here it is.
a baby crying is scary ?
a baby with inhumanly large eyes and a distorted face, I also think there's a difference between creepiness and scariness
Melvin Slog Yup, definitely creepier than The Seer. But I'm thinking the creepier the cover, the better the music is
Filth? Those teeth...
***** yep
Admittedly not a Swans fan but wow, there’s just something about this song that has me coming back to it over and over again
Those are the first signs
Happy 1 million to this absolute masterpiece 🎉
IT TOOK ME HALF A YEAR TO LIKE THIS ALBUM. But i finally made it. I love every single minute on this record. The same with The Glowing Man. Thank you, swans for this wonderful music you've made. I wish i knew of you sooner so i could see you live at least once.
the glowing man clicked immediately for me when it released. clicked hard.

You'll get the chance - methinks Mr. Gira ain't gonna stop until he drops in the geriatric ward.
Been following the Swans since their Holy Money - Greed NYC days. They continue to evolve and create spiritual music unlike any other band. Respect M. Gira and thanks for your passion, truth and love. Cheers.
Play at 2x speed for the most messed up ska music you’ll ever hear
I’m going to try that now
gnarly
I still don't know how to feel about post-rock as a genre or Swans as a band, but I really like the instrumentation on this track
Do you now?
I feel like im being microwaved
This is the most accessible Swans song I’ve ever heard.
@eipciskwmdy Lakef 7302 That isn’t from Burning World then lol. I’ll listen to it when I have the time.

bahahaaa love it, ur remark & the song
that's how lsd makes you comprehend
But the ride is so good
Brilliant. You succinctly summed up the album.
You can't get off the ride and the operator is behind a tent having a cigarette. Carnival clowns are laughing at you while you squirm. You make it home and your body shakes subside as you drink hot chocolate under a blanket - only then do you realise how fantastic the whole experience was.
This whole album manages to both feed and cure my depression simultaneously.
They need to get with the times and do a rap album.

This is one of the best songs ever. The two synth explosions produce some of the most euphoric and drug-like auditory experiences possible. This entire album is one of the crowning achievements of all of music
1 mil views is amazing for such a song
Be Kind, Damnit!.....Kurt Vonnugut
There's something terrifying about this band. Something primal, elemental...
This speaks to me in the purest and most wonderful of ways
First listen gave me a face melting anxiety attack that left me consumed in my emotions unable to move. 10/10 would recommend

I think I've contributed at this million views with at least 1000s of them
I saw Swans a few days ago in Chicago. It was an absolutely should crushing experience, and I loved every second of it!
There is so much beautiful, blissful energy in this. It makes me smile from one wide open listening ear to the other.
I always picture one of those vintage cat clocks while listening to this song.
Happy 1 Million views you amazing freak of a song
art rock / noise rock
wouldn't call this art rock
We NEED more music like this now. This album is the final rock album of the 2010’s I truly believed in. Everything rock should be but stopped being. Aggressive, angry, heavy, scary. This is why people moved to rap now. Not enough acts like Swans. Much love to the band for powerful tunes like these.
Japan is carrying the rock mantle since the 2000s
Daughters made an incredible job with "You Won't Get What You Want".
this is so funny lol, people dont spend the time to look for good bands and complain of an lack of them… there is so much good music out there if you search a little.

So far, so many miles so far
Forever rising!
I keep coming back to this track. I really love it.
Absolutely love it, loving the inclusion of synths
i learned to stop trying to show people good music. the difference between art and the shit people fill their heads with.. i learned nobody has patience, and they reap no reward. once you are patient enough for bands like this its better than bliss and some of the only stuff that makes sense in life.
I saw one comment here and inspired me to say this. In all my time alive, I had some strange (or stressful) dreams where I'm doing random stuff or trying to go to different places, but at the end of the dream, I'm never able to end or complete these things. An example of this would be a dream where I am getting up in the morning, getting ready to go to high school. But in the dream I'm never able to reach the school, a lot of things happen that doesn't allow me to take the bus or even run to my goal. This song somewhat reminds me of this dreams and the feeling they convey on me.
perfect trip
Gira is a damn GENIUS!
So far. So many miles, so far.

Definitely wasn't expecting this from Swans. Pretty cool.

This kind of sounds like Captian Beefheart + King Crimson to me

C'mon, at least "Captain Crimson" is alliterative.
Richard Toppler Alliteration is overrated. King Beefheart has more of a savage medieval appeal.

The album cover pretty much sums up how I feel about the album
My god this music is fantastic
what an amazing album!
When I'm admitted to the mental hospital this is what will be playing in my head
Easily my favorite track on this near-perfect album, I've always adored that weird part in the middle with the chants
....and Swans do it yet again. Yes, they are most consistently interesting/harrowing band of the last couple of years.
When it gets to 6:00 I just can't help but smile as that incredibly eerie high pitched squeal comes in. Great Stuff.
1:54 That transition is pure bliss.
I've never heard these guys until now, but have heard OF them and of the praise this album has been getting. I used to not be able to make it through songs like this without turning it off, but for some reason when the noise came in, I was able to see it through to the end. I'm still going to wait until my taste for experimental rock has developed further before I give the whole album a shot, but this has gotten me excited for it.
What the hell, the first time I listened to this I didn't like it at all. Now I can't get enough of it. I love it when this happens.
I remember finding Swans some 3 years ago. I thought they were good, but now having heard more music, this band has really grown on me. To Be Kind has so much bloody character, and it's so fun as well.
