    Do people really refuse to move from the disabled space??? That's so crazy! Glad to hear most people are helpful :D

      It's very rare but does happen yeah. I think they don't realise why we need the space. Mostly for health and safety reasons as I need to put the back of my wheelchair against the wall or I'd fall back quite easily

      I had awful experience a few years ago and I've not been on a train since. I had prebooked help as on small mobility scooter space was reserved for me and people refused to move for me to get on train and get to the disabled space, conductor asked them to move as I said they refused and also pushchair in space they also would not move . I was taken to carriage with bikes that was full, was taken back to where my space had been reserved and passengers were told if they didn't move the train would be delayed. I was eventually in correct space but those passengers made my trip he'll by having ago at me. Hence never travelling by train since.

    Very helpful/useful Ben. I went down to London 2 years ago,even though I had booked assistance well ahead of travelling, I was left on the train 20 minutes after everyone got off, not good when I was on my own and first time alone in London. Virgin Trains. I had to shout from the open door, for someone to help me. I will never travel alone by train again.

      I'm sorry to hear. Never traveled with virgin before so never experienced their procedures

    Love how you just crack on with going off to London for the day like it's no big deal! So motivating :D

    The platform at my station is on the opposite side of the tracks. A flight of stairs up over the bridge and down the stairs. No lift. Not staffed. I can only request a ramp on the train departing street side at floor level to a different destination than where I want to go and a train change to intended destination. 2 trains, two fairs double the time for an able bodied 20 min journey.

    The some of the new trains that Greater Anglia use have a ramp that slides out from the train just before the doors open. I was able to push my husband straight onto the train without any need of assistance by the station staff.

    I haven't traveled by train here in the US, but in 2010 I flew to Phoenix from Orlando, Florida. I have function of my legs, so using the bathroom on the plane wasn`t an issue. In 2012 I lost the function of my hands, so now it will be, but I didn't have to worry about falling!I've looked at traveling by train here, but it's way too hard. The trains here aren't as accessible.

    Well I braved my first time on train yesterday and I don’t know what I was worrying about

    I'm not a big railway user, but I tried using the tube on a night out once and couldn't get off at a station I expected to. Should have planned ahead, but difficult when you're pissed already! 😂

      😂😂 fair enough. It can be tricky, I'll make a separate guide for the underground!

    • @nigelkthomas9501
      @nigelkthomas9501 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Underground should be an exception to the DDA rules. There’s so many stations that have no access and those that do only have partial access or are unclear. I’ve been on the Underground so many times in the last few years and I’ve never seen a wheelchair anywhere on the entire system.

    I was on a train yesterday where the station staff didn’t double check if I was on the ramp and my power chair came off. He seemed non plussed on what to do to solve this. Fortunately three passengers helped out.

    When I was in the UK I had to tell the railways which train I was catching, which stations I would be getting on and off 48 hours in advance of my trip. How do disabled people in the UK manage like this? I was a tourist and had no idea of this rule, after all I had just arrived and needed to get to my hotel. I had a similar problem in the Neatherlands.

    is there some way to arrange this as a regular service like say you work 5 days a week and travel by train so you don't constantly have to call

    Can a foreigner with a disability get a disabled rail card as well? You know, if they're a tourist? I have heard that the tube, at least, is very expensive

    • @AdaptToPerform
      @AdaptToPerform  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think that it's necessarily stopping you when you apply. But the tube is separate that's on TFL I'll have to do a separate video on that

  • @ilovebrean

    Are you able to do a video on self propelling across dropped curbs ? I can’t do it I just veer into the road as can’t keep straight
