- Unreleased as a studio recording but available as this incredible live performance is My Marie, a beautiful song by Gene Clark which he co-wrote with Pat Robinson. Love Gene's music? Please sign the petition to Induct Gene Clark into the Songwriters Hall of Fame: www.change.org...
Every once in awhile I listen to Gene (and have for over thirty years) and I think, how could some one be so good, and unique?
There are a lot of singer songwriters, but none who can sing like Gene Clark. That voice is incredible.
he was so special!
Gene has both an amazing singing voice and an amazing speaking voice. I can listen to him all day long.
Happy 78th in heaven, dear Gene - fly high, beautiful man❤️
What a beautiful, beautiful song. I am so glad I have taken an interest in Gene Clark's music. I think he was very under-appreciated in the Byrds.
He should be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, as he was not only a prolific songwriter. He wrote and sang more songs with the Byrds than Jim McGuinn. His songs were the best.
I agree! Hope you signed the petition. Please pass it along! Thank you
Beautiful singing of a beautiful song.
His beautiful songs were really his horrific pain, but we love him just the same....
Beautiful song: Geno at his Best. Indeed he should be one of the most famous songwriters. The voice of an Angel. In Holland/Europe, we love Gene Too !
So beautiful. Clark at his best. Thanks Ingrid.
you're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
My late father was in the Gene Clark club alright. Brought me up well. This man was other worldly and incapable of doing anything bad
Thank you
David Crosby clearly described the unscrupulously corrupt music industry. gene fell foul of their ways and they prevented much of his deserved success. How they must grovel now when they may have gagged his brilliance once, but his voice can never be muffled and his popularity is spiraling. Spanish Guitar, My Marie and at least 15 other masterpieces will live on forever and I shall always hear him.
".....to wars of greed and passion. And to the few who do survive there is no satisfaction ." Pretty much sums up Gene's relationship with the music business. This is my all time favorite Gene Clark recording. It and Spanish Guitar are enough to qualify him for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
thank you, yes, couldn't agree with you more!
Thank you! I started that petition! Please continue to spread the word! :)
Awesome. Thank you for sharing.
This is gene at his best,i've heard about 6 versions of this song and this one really packs the punch and puts the song through to a place where it should be,great version!
THIS.. is AMAZING.
Thank you!!!
Jojo heartspaypay you're very welcome! Thank Gene! ☺
Carla is not on the Mountain Stage portion (7 tracks) of In Concert--disc one, only on the last 3 tracks which she and Gene recorded at Gene's house. Their take on Carla's song Number One (is to survive) is exquisite. Gene exclaims "That's cool!" at the end. Yes it is!
Wonderful Indigo, thx so much for posting yet another Gene gem :)
I always envisioned Roy Orbison singing this.
Roy would have done a good job!
Ooh yeah. A perfect choice for Orbison.... but this is a beautiful gift from Gene. In 1988, heart and soul and voice; all there. 💝
I heard a later Roy Orbison track on the radio recently and was like...woah is this Gene!? til the chorus kicked in. There's deffo an overlap
Great upload Indigo. Thanks so much
My pleasure!
from In Concert (disc 1)
Thanks for posting this, Indigo! It disappeared from TH-cam a few years ago and I missed it!
you're very welcome!
Flying was the excuse for the Byrds to dismiss Gene. Sure he walked off the plane but was every thing harmonious before he walked? You took away his guitar, he was replaced as lead singer and the number of songs on the third album were cut. Who wouldn't want to walk off the plane? He was prevented from achieving his potential there. Of all BYRDS,, Gene's songs will endure forever even though he lived only a short life. The quality and quantity of his songs far surpass all other Byrds and many other recognized artists.
I always find it strange when I speak to people who were into The Byrds in the 60s, but don't know any of Gene's music. Seems to be a common theme, and I guess the lack of publicity at the time was the main reason his solo records never achieved the sales figures they deserved.
The Harmonica Company yes it surprises me too and it is strange and unfortunate. IMO Gene's management (or lack of) is partly to blame, but there were many other contributing factors.
sorry guys I always saw Gene as THE man in the Byrds Jim's 12 string got the attention but Gene was the gift to the band, Mcguinn made that point in his solo gigs
Ambitious colleagues such as Mr Crosby and McGuin would never have promoted him. And I don't feel there were
many tears shed when the great talent walked off the plane!
I used to be a Deadhead but now its FBB gram parson and GENE FREAKING CLARK
You can be into all three, I am .
Just curious if any of you know whether or not Gene's sons were able to obtain Gene's guitars, unfinished music, awards etc. that Terri Messina stole at the time of Gene's death. She died in 2007. I wonder if she had any conscience when she died and made sure that they received what was rightly theirs after she lied and said she was his wife.
I don't believe they have recovered everything.
IMHO, Carla too low in the mix.
she actually isn't on that song, that's the title of the CD
Isn't Gene brilliant?
