OMG. Countdown!! The most iconic Australian music show of all time! My entire childhood was affected by this show!! Molly!! would give all Aussie groups a go. And all the overseas bands would appear on the show too!! Um.. the clapping and the arm waves were an iconic part of Countdown!!

Richard Clapton had so many great songs. "Deep water" would have to be my favourite. And there is a live version with Jimmy Barnes on backing vocals. So glad you found him.
Australia is truly blessed when it comes to music. And I'm so happy that the rest of the world get to enjoy it too. Better late than never I say. Thanks Gents. Love your work 👍

Seeing as Chris is curating a new week of Aussie Artists, one can only hope that some Tex Perkins is added either in the form of his solo work or with The Beasts of Bourbon, The Cruel Sea or even Tex, Don and Charlie (for some beautiful melancholic thought provoking tunes).
Note: Tex, Don and Charlie includes Don Walker the songwriter and keyboardist for Cold Chisel.

Thanks for the nostalgic drip down memory lane. Still listen to him once or twice a year. One of our best singer songwriters. Don’t believe he gets enough love. It’s almost as if we only have room for one great singer songwriter and that position is taken by Paul Kelly. First saw Richard Clapton perform in a free concert in Hyde Park, Sydney back in 1974. Have loved his voice and song-craft ever since. I note your reference to Leo Sayer, who is now an Australian citizen. I have always thought of him as Australia’s Van Morrison with a body and face only a mother could love.

I first saw Richard Clapton when my friend and I were teenagers in the early 1970s.
We were wandering around Sydney CBD and decided to walk into an old theatre to check it out and there he was practising on stage, just him and his guitar.
I loved his voice and the theatre was so ornate!
We didn't know who he was at the time but bought his album when we heard his distinctive voice on the radio.
There was no one at the door to stop you from entering in those days.

Both really good tunes. The bass & drum lines in Capricorn Dancer are what makes it hypnotic to me. Richard Clapton is a great songwriter and singer. Not only a great performer but also such a beautiful man, I have had the honour of meeting Richard several times after his shows nearby and he always took the time to chat shake hands and was never full of himself at all. He is so well loved here and I am so grateful your highlighting him today and also my all time favourite from him Capricorn Dancer so TY so very much. His track list is so vast I can recommend "Deep Water" and "I Am An Island" as others from him. Capricorn Dancer is, more precisely, a reference to the Tropic of Capricorn which runs right through the middle of Australia.

check out the song april sun in cuba by dragon which was originally a newzealand band that spent a fair bit of time in australia, similar vibes to capricorn dancer, another classic from that era

Ahh. Drag On. Really great songs! Its such a pity Marc Hunter couldn't sing in tune - and people wonder why they never cracked it overseas...

Ironic that they didn't want to make Girls on the Avenue a single because it became perhaps the most played Australian song ever on Australian radio. I can't think of another song that beats it in this regard - it has such a combination of commerciality and quality that meant if you're Australian you've heard it a million times.

Nice touch with Mother and Son. I think I'll watch a few episodes tonight.
The Dandy Warhols is fresh on my mind too, I've been watching the British series Teachers. Oh the nostalgia. It has a good soundtrack.

Another Aussie that deserves some love is Jon English. Hollywood 7 was a masterpiece, and a song he wrote, She Was Real, next level stuff.
