Recorded in one take, James didn't want any auto tune. His father had donated a kidney years ago, but when he went into stage 4 kidney disease, couldn't find a donor. After this was released a distance cousin was tested and was a match. Father is doing well now. James and his father are veterans.
According to James, the lines“I’m not your son, your not my father, we’re just two grown men saying goodbye” came from his Dad: both men were military men, and neither were ever ‘emotional’ with each other. As his Dad (Charles) dropped James off to go serve in Kosovo, his father said “Right now, you’re not my son and i’m not your father. We’re just two grown men saying goodbye”. Then his Dad gave him a hug, which was something he hadn’t done since childhood. James said he ‘kept’ that hug with him whilst fighting in Kosovo, to keep him safe 🙏.
I knew there would have to be some meaning with those lines. Thank you so much for adding that comment. Makes me cry even more now knowing the meaning behind those words. I just found ‘Monsters’ today…I know where have I been? 🤷♀️ Been watching reaction videos to Monsters all day 😭
@@shaunapembroke3423 Aw, I know, it’s actually a really moving story isn’t it (the words from Father to son). I too binged Monster reaction vids, and was JUST all cried out when i happened upon James’ ‘The Girl Who Never Was’. Too, too heartbreaking 😢. The man sure knows how to break us emotionally!
James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor kidney & is doing okay now. If this song doesn't get to you emotionally, there is something wrong with you. This song resonates with me as I was my dad's caregiver for 5 years until he passed away a few years ago.
I remember the first time I heard this, I was crying in agony. With more listens, I understood that the beautiful lyrics were a lesson to all that have lost or are losing a dear one. Express your love before it is too late.
EVERYONE cries watching this video. It is so well done, and so touching. James' father was dying, and this was James' tribute and goodbye to his father. Luckily, as you've probably already read, his dad didn't die at that time. And you can always replay a song -- it's YOUR reaction and you can do it however you want. One of my favorite reactors always rolls it back a few times during a song, and sometimes he plays the whole song again.
I think this song hits everyone the same way the first time hearing it. It's heart-wrenching because we all will go through this at one point in our lives...no escaping it. Thanks for your honest reaction.
They were both veterans and their goodbye to each when one would deploy was “We’re just two grown men saying goodbye” ( British stiff upper lip and all). Thankfully His dad got better but they thought he was going to die when he wrote this.
“Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blount. who was a former cavalry officer, battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........
An extremely emotional story if a love for him. Have watched this umpteenth time and it never fails to move me. A great reaction feeling like we did when we first heard it
It’s such a beautiful and sad song combined. I lost my dad in 2017. He was 89 which is a great age . I was 49. It still hits me hard this song. I miss him everyday. Lesson from this song for me is to love them and try and be with your dad and mam as much as possible while they are still here. Great reaction video by the way
When recording this it was said there wasn't a dry eye amongst the crew, but in typical British stiff upper lip way, even though he had been given only a couple of months to live, his father looked around the room and said "why is everyone crying I'm still here".
Charles blunts dad was in need of a kidney transplant and thanks to this video the dad got one and is still alive and towards the end of the video his dad appears in the video with him that's his real dad
04:39 The overlaid lyrics are wrong! "You can feel my hand on your own" is nonsense and does not even make any sense! The correct lyrics are "You can feel my hand on your arm"!
Neither of his parents were there for him. Stuck him in school for years alone. Only came around when he became famous. He has turned around and now is an absent father to his 3 boys.
@@Neenie1976 yes, sorry I miss spoke he had 2 boys. Happy in his marriage Noone knows. He has made many comments in interviews that r very strange. Perhaps u might want to listen to a few.
That’s his voice at its purest, no auto tune, all done in one go with his dad by his side who was dying at the time. Thankfully he got a donor

It is so RAW.

I love that you’re experiencing the music of another generation. Bless you… this was a tough one.
Granted, James Blunt is almost 50 - but this song isn't from another generation. It came out in 2019.
One the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs ever!!! 🎶🎼🎵🎹🎤🎧🎸🥁💜💜💜 His father did survive his illness. 💜 You're reaction was honest and perfect❣❣
watch the very end... his dad pats him on the arm. It broke me.
James Blunt is the best artist

For me it’s when he sings “Let there be no darkness in your heart”. Beautiful prayer for his father.
I thought that was a very fair reaction - it's a very emotional song
Thank you for your authentic reaction. ❤

That man tha appears next to James blunt is his real dad Charles blunt James blunt dedicated the song to his dad
Did you see Iam Tongi singing Monster with James Blunt? Powerful.
Just an amazing heartfelt song, if you have to dead inside not to react to this one.

That's Charles blunt his real dad next to him in the video he will I'll with kidney disease but he found a doner in time and he survived
My perspective, he was letting his dad know that he taught him how to be a man so he could be OK. He will take over the family.
😢❤
you should check out his song No Bravery. in some ways even more powerful than this one
He thought his dad was dying but he made it
Wow
Charles blunts dad was in need of a kidney transplant and thanks to this video the dad got one and is still alive and towards the end of the video his dad appears in the video with him that's his real dad
