Lulu-you are a precious soul. Many kids these days would listen to this, with absolutely no emotion, no care, no empathy. You have a true, beautiful heart, that Christ has given you.
    God bless you dear child.

Thank you so much for your service man.
The first time I ever broke down and couldn't pull myself together was at my cousin's (who is a marine) funeral. He was KIA in Iraq in 03 and his marine brothers were at his funeral. Seeing these young man that are some of the toughest and bravest men on the planet break down and weep at my cousins casket just broke me completely, especially knowing what my cousin did and what him and his brothers went through over there. Your service really does mean a lot to me so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
One of my cousin's marine brothers that was there at the battle of Nasiriyah with him wrote a song. You might like it so here it is.
      It's called Nasiriyah

It's honestly the phrase "It's my turn, to chase the monsters away" that get's me. Like a full circle of life moment, where your dad looks after you, scaring the monsters away under your bed.
To the sad realisation that your dying father is probably terrified of the darkness, the unknown... the monsters. And it's your turn to make him feel secutre, and chase the monsters away.

    • @markitorrr6911
      @markitorrr6911 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

I don't see it that way, i think about it more that a father dying is worried about how his son's gonna make it through life and all the "monsters" in it without being protected by him. So he gives him calm by saying that he doesn't needs help anymore for chasing the monsters away. That's my pov tho, not saying u're wrong, just wanted to share my way to see it.

    • @jordan9604

That is the way that I took it. Pretty hard to imagine that anyone could step into my father's foot steps. Trying my. Fking hardest but I know it isn't enough. Love my dad but I can't fill his shoes. I can only do the best I can. This fking sucks.

Aye lad, representation of where the saying crying like a baby comes from. The eldest was moved but stoic, Mom was crying, and the little one was bawling. We all get older, and we all experience losses, the calluses that come with that are necessary but not necessarily healthy. Not only our own pain but also being the shield between the loss of the eldest generation and the kids. You can't break, or they break harder, which is simply not allowed to happen.

I am 48 and my parents were in a horrible crash last year. My dad was not hurt but my mom was severely injured. It was agony booking the flight back home trying to get there as fast as I could. I was wholly unprepared for how she was and all the tubes and machines. She was eventually transferred to home care after over 200 days. I had time to tell her just how much she meant to me and spent a lot of time with her in my 2 trips for several weeks each back home. I talk to her on the phone daily. She's not the same, she never will be. We will lose her at some point, maybe in a year, maybe 2, no one knows. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how fortunate I am that my parents are still here know that your parents loved you and would likely be so proud of the person you are today. this song is so moving, it says everything.

This hits home harder than I can describe. My dad called me on Sunday and left a message to call him, I was not home then. When I got the message it was Tuesday, and I regularly call him every Wednesday to chat, so I figured I would call him the next day. He passed away that Tuesday night, and I never got the chance to say goodbye. NEVER put off what you can do today because tomorrow may be too late.

This is my 50th-ish time, maybe, of watching this, and It’s hard to explain, but watching the young one cry so hard made me cry harder, and each time I cry harder it brings me one emotional step closer to grieving and finally (one day) letting go of the grief i have over my own Super-hero Dad’s passing, from Cancer, a year ago now. Thank you 🥰

Yes. I have been watching and listening to this song and the reaction videos, and I ball every time. I'm 64. My dad was a tortured soul and he tortured his family. It was an absolute nightmare growing up. He died in 2011 and was bitter till the end. And yet, there is this part of me that so regrets not helping him into that rest. James wrote the song as a tribute to his dad in case he didn't survive. As a child our dads scare away the monsters in the closet. Now it was James turn. I don't know how ANYONE can watch this heartfelt expression of love, especially from a tough military guy like James, and not be moved. How can you not? It is a universal sentiment when we lose someone. Like he said "the time is gone". It goes so quickly so appreciate your loved ones and tell them while you still can. The line that gets me is "Daddy won't you just close your eyes". How many people hold on until they feel they have permission to go. I know I told that to my own unconscious mother. I like his song "You're Beautiful" among others. ❤ Hope you got that ice cream! 🍦

Blunt explained to Apple Music: "I idolized this man throughout my childhood, but as we grew older, I realized that he had his own fallibilities, and that's an awesome thing to see because you suddenly can become friends then. And then obviously as parents get older, the responsibility starts to weigh on the children that look after them. Although that can be painful, there's something beautiful about it, too."
Blunt wrote and recorded the song without telling his father. According to an Event magazine interview, when Blunt played it for him in a room with just the two of them there, he responded, "That's the way it is.

Great heartfelt reaction ladies. I'm an old army veteran and have lost almost every relative I ever knew. Three brothers, a niece and nephew in just the last ten years. My father died in 1986 while I was stationed in Germany, I was 22 years old. Every time I watch this video I cry like Kathy on the outside and Lulu on the inside. (((( hugs to all three of you ))))

Just to fill in the blanks a little, James Blunt is a former British Army officer who served in in various conflicts including Bosnia and Kosovo. His father was also an army officer so when james was growing up as a young man and also when he was in the military, whenever his father was going on deployment he would use the line " I'm not your father , your not my son, we're just two grown men saying goodbye" to ease the reality of the fact that it could be the Last goodbye.

The odd thing is that normally seeing a person cry is the most powerful part of a video, but in this case it was the lyrics which really did me in. Because we don't live forever, everyone has had loved ones die, so it is very relatable.
When the girl in the middle broke, that broke me too. I watched this video with headphones, but my girlfriend heard me make sounds and came over to me and asked me, "What's happening? Wait, are you crying?!? Oooooooooooooh, baby, come here!". 😭

James Blunt was in the British army and served in the Balkans conflict of the early 90s. As was his father before him. His songs are from the soul. There are many more which are about subjects that will break you just as this one did. Goodbye My Lover, No Bravery, Carry You Home and most recently The Girl that never was. Each one if these is absolutely beautifuly written and sung but will hit you as hard as this one but for different reasons.

I only heard and listened to this song last night. Never has a song , and I have listened to many , many dozens of sad songs , hit me so viscerally as this one. I have listened to this song maybe 6 times already , and each time I cried. I think I know what they mean by " choking up ". When I listen to this song I feel a weird sensation in my throat. It feels like it is tightening up, and I get a little short of breath. Then that feelings travels to my heart. My heart literally feels broken.
Dear Dad , I love you with all of my heart.

Someone in his family heard this song and went right to the hospital to see if he was a match. He was and he saved James's dad's life by donating one of his kidneys to him. Great song and a great singer.

The sad part for me is that my dad really was a monster. He was brutal to us kids to the point that we were afraid to come home from school every day. He died at the end of 2011, and until I heard this song it never occurred to me to understand he was living out the nightmare that was planted in him by his parents. I made no attempt at giving him a little peace at the end. What I know now is you only get one chance at this. Thank you for the raw, emotional response. I ball every time I hear this song.

My story is exactly the same, he was an alcoholic who boxed in the Marines Corps and wouldn't think twice about knocking you upside the head for any reason or no reason at all. We would all feel dread when we heard his car pulling up to the house after a night at the tavern. He passed from cirrhosis and a whole host of other things when I was 14 and I was supposed to stay up all night with him, but he sent me to bed. He said 'Forgive me, son' when I was busy doing something inconsequential and I didn't know how to react, so I pretended I didn't hear him and he wouldn't repeat it. I walked past his body in the morning and didn't even realize he was gone. This song still makes me cry. Whatever you want to say about that man, he wasn't a coward and he faced his death better than I ever could. As angry and disappointed as I am with him, I still think maybe he would have been a completely different man without the alcohol. I don't know. It's complicated and it's so difficult. He didn't even make it to 40, he had it about as bad as it gets. I wish I wouldn't have been such a coward and I would have tried to give him at least that little bit of forgiveness at the end.

One of my personal takes on this song, and part of why it hits so hard is because we English rarely ever share our true feelings, so so many of us die, or have loved ones die, having never said the kinds of things James Blunt says in this song.
We're raised to keep our emotions to ourselves our whole lives, and it's often the thing we regret most in the end. Many of us couldn't even bring ourselves to say half of what's in this song. So hearing those words said aloud is like being hit by a freight train
