"Is this some kind of bust?"

Leslie Nielsen did not find fame late in life. He started acting in 1950. It wasn’t until airplane in 1980 that he started doing comedy. Prior to that he was always a dramatic actor.
He made at least one appearance on the TV show Columbo which was from the 70s and he was in a 1956 sci-fi movie called for bidden planet.
Leslie‘s acting career spanned over six decades.

I’d like to think that Director David Zucker had Anthony James use a revolver instead of a semiautomatic pistol in order to poke fun at all of the movies and television shows that show people putting sound suppressors on revolvers.

If you like absurd comedy and serious characters, I think the right thing to do would be to watch (if you haven't already) the classic "Pink Panther" movies with Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau.
Leslie Nielsen, like George Kennedy in this film, or some of those who appeared in “Airplane” had a long and important career in “serious” films/series… in the case of Leslie Nielsen, the typical one that is remembered, for being an iconic science fiction film, is “Forbidden Planet”

Good thing is that all 3 movies in this franchise are (at the very least) good. Pretty rare for a comedy trilogy

I love Leslie Nielson. But you also gotta watch "The Party". 1968 film starring Peter Sellers. Best comedy ever.

You guys are too young to recognize the female love interest. Heck I don't know if you even know who Elvis Presley is.. anyways the female is Pricilla Presley, Elvis' widow. She looks so young as she married extremely young. Like nowadays you'd be put on a registry young.

    "Awfully big moustache"
I heard there's going to be a Naked Gun reboot from Seth Macfarlane and starring Liam Neeson, Idk how well Seth would do but I'm just a bit intrigued, and funny how kind of similar sounding Liam's name is to Leslie Nielsens'
