    When the Doctor is giving Ted the pep talk about George Zipp -- this is a direct reference to the 1940s movie "Knute Rockne, All American" in which Ronald Reagan played a Notre Dame football player named George Gipp who in one scene is dying in a hospital bed. He tells his coach to tell the rest of the team to "win one for the Gipper," and the Doctor's speech is pretty much word-for-word from that scene. Also, the music playing when Striker gets up and says "I've got a plane to land" is the Notre Dame fight song.

    • @christinegelabert1651

    • @Lensmaster1
      @Lensmaster1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Police Squad was a great series, a satire on 1960s cop shows. The general audience didn't get it though. So they went back to movies, putting out "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad".

    • @Anson_AKB
      @Anson_AKB ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lensmaster1 yes, and thus they prominently said "in color" in the title screen.
      it ended up as a 6x30 minute mini series which i see as a followup to Airplane! and "Naked Gun" is its spinoff trilogy
      i liked the mini series a lot, but when some reactors watched them in a single run instead of as separate episodes, it became a bit annoyingly boring to see the repetitive jokes of 3 or 6 espisodes in a single sitting, while i couldn't wait to see the next episode when broadcast only once per week. That's probably also why they only did 6 episodes.

    Ohhh Man, I laughed my ass off watching you trying to drink, right when one of the best lines in the movie is coming; "Cream?" "No thank you, I take it black; like my men." Aww wow saw it coming the whole time, going; NOOOOOO don't drink NOW!!! This movie has so many gags, that you can watch it a 100 times and still catch jokes you missed before. You didn't have the scene in your reaction, but the old lady who translates the jive talk for the stewardess is Barbara Billingsly, who is most famous for playing June Cleaver on the classic tv show Leave it to Beaver. She was the gold standard for suburban mom's back in the day. So her knowing how to speak jive with the brothers, is like the Dave Chappelle show sketch with Wayne Brady. Which if you haven't seen that and or don't know who Wayne Brady is I highly recommend checking out the sketch after you know who he is!!!
    A few more parodies to add to the list, Airplane 2, which while not as good as the first is still hilarious. The Top Gun parody, Hot Shots and it's sequel Hot Shots Part Deux which parodies Rambo's 2&3. Balls of Fury is a parody of Bruce Lee's iconic Enter the Dragon. Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Pow: Enter the Fist are hilarious Kung Fu parodies I know you'll love. Also while not a true parody, Army of Darkness is so much different from the other Evil Dead movies it might as well be a parody! And Lastly Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are amazing.

    The bar scene was awesome. An Air Force pilot in navy dress whites. Two girl scouts fighting to late 1960s Star Trek fight music. Everything you threw away being tossed back at you like someone who hates litter.
    The only downside is it sped up the tempo of Stayin Alive to the point I can't use it to guide the tempo of CPR. The first aid trainers said to use either Stayin Alive or Another one bites the dust - but the latter is risky if you start humming it.

    The mayo stuff is a lot funnier when you consider that there is actually a real medical establishment called the Mayo Clinic. Maybe it's not as famous now but it's a real clinic that specializes in difficult cases and cutting-edge science. It would get mentioned a lot on serious drama shows back in the 1970s/80s. It became sort of a stock plot device to emphasize that the situation was really serious. Obviously here the writers were parodying that with the shelf full of mayonnaise jars.

    The guy waiting in the Taxi. On its own, it’s a pretty good joke, but it becomes a million times cleverer if you know who the taxi passenger is. As it so happens, he was played by Howard Jarvis, an American businessman and politician who lowered California’s property taxes by spearheading Proposition 13 in 1978. And that’s the joke. Jarvis, who was primarily known for his strong views on fiscal responsibility and limited spending, played a character on Airplane! who’s the exact opposite of careful with money.

    One of the best comedies ever imo. You guys nailed it, the jokes are so clever. The play on words they use, the execution, the timing, all perfection :) Theres probably quite a few jokes missed on the first watch :) Ever if its a small gag in the background, there are tons to savor on a second viewing :)

    Something most people oddly miss. Is he was an Air Force Captain, but in the bar scene, he's dressed as a Navy Lt. (same as AF Capt. ) .

    There is a post-credit sequence with the guy still waiting in the taxi.
    The whole movie is a joke but everybody is completely deadpan (except Johnny, whose lines are all ad-libbed by the actor).

    Kentucky Fried Movie was written by the Zucker brothers and directed by John Landis. It’s really out there. Love the last scene. You won’t be able to post a reaction but I think you’d love the movie.

    Legend is whenever Bill Murray is on a flight he always asks to see the pilot. He opens the door and says " I just want to tell you both we are all counting on you" and just returns to his seat

    I feel like this was a movie where they just didn't say no to any of the jokes they came up with, no matter how stupid they were
    On a side note, there was a plane incident (I can't remember the exact details, so I might have this confused with another plane disaster) where I think the plane started going haywire over the Pacific Ocean and took a nose dive out of nowhere. The pilots managed to regain control and they decided to head to the nearest airport and just hope it didn't happen again. They're all sitting in the cockpit shaken up and nervous hoping they can get the plane down, trying to figure out a plan if it happened again, and the captain goes "I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." Everyone laughed, it eased the tension, and they got the plane down safely. So in a way, this parody movie helped to save a plane full of people

    It's sort of fun to watch you millennial kids reacting to a movie that was made for a generation that was not so easily shocked. I loved the freedom we had back then to laugh at ourselves without thinking it was inappropriate or wrong. It was just us.

    You were talking about there not being any good parody movies anymore - have you seen The Menu? It's basically a parody of A-24 horror films such as Midsommar and Hereditary. It's classified as "horror satire" and friends of mine who worked in the food industry couldn't stop laughing at all the in-jokes.

    Another big recommendation is _Top Secret_ (which also happens to be Val Kilmer's movie debut). It's the same writing team, so if you liked this... ya know.

    Classic comedies:
    - not afraid of anything or anyone
    - not giving a single F
    - acting dtupid while being smart
    Modern comedies:
    - afraid to cause any kind of offense
    - acting stupid while being gross ... and stupid

    This is parodied from "Zero Hour" in an insanely dull black and white 1940's movie I think that is in no way a comedy - but after watching "Airplane, that movie became a comedy classic.

    Remember Airplane was in 1980. This was a smart hilarious spoof of Disater Airplane movies from the 1970’s and they were very very popular. This movie was politically incorrect. These jokes would not be told today.
