      For aficionados of Jugendstil, I recommend Nancy. For mid-century architecture, Le Havre. For those into ancient Rome, the old circuit of Nîmes, Arles and Orange with the Pont du Gard inbetween. For art lovers, wander around the villages to the west of Nice: Cagnes-sur-Mer (Renoir), Biot (Léger), Mougins, Antibes and Vallauris (Picasso), Vence and Nice itself (Matisse), Le Cannet (Bonnard), Saint-Paul-de-Vence (Chagall and the author James Baldwin). France has cities and cosmopolitan villages to every taste.

    Paris has, since the age of Kings, been defined by extravagance and ostentatious luxury.
    For those that demand modernity and simplicity, I'm not sorry to tell you, you've not only got a droll sense of living, but have picked the wrong city to achieve that sense.
    Paris is a city of dreams, guilded and gorgeous; any attempt to change that, is, in my opinion at least, blasphemy.

    • @marienono
      @marienono 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Angel Rios this comment has been written by a foreigner for sure 😂 in fact Paris is not defined by extravagance, only certain neighbors (I am parisian). Lots of articles has been written about the idolisation of foreigners about Paris

      Actually it has been a city of extravagance since after the age of Kings.
      The famously extravagant Louis the XIV had left Paris for Versailles and it is the revolution that brought political power back to the capital.
      And the typical Paris as everybody knows it today actually dates from the late 19th century when it was a symbol of modernity all around the world with great city planning and harmony.
      I agree that we should preserve the harmony of style from that era because it is what gives paris its charm and makes it such a great city both to visit and to live in.

    • @huguesjouffrai9618
      @huguesjouffrai9618 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The quality of air problem is hugely exaggerated. It has actually improves massively in the last 40 years and the extraordinary density of the city needs to be taken into account.
      Despite what most people believe because buildings are not very high, Paris is one of the densest places in the world rivalling most asian cities with 20k inhabitants per square kilometers.
      The city is remarkably green given such a high density and walking around is quite easy.
      However the mayor's actions to ban cars has been causing all sorts of trouble and in particular it has created even more traffic jams in and around the city (with a negative impact on air quality), it has made life worse for the huge amount of people who go there everyday from the suburbs.

    When it comes to food, fashion, culture and tradition, Paris is still far better than NYC or London. Don’t believe those propaganda videos about Paris becoming a “immigrant hub” They only focus on one part of Paris. What if they show you East London, Queens or Brooklyn instead of Central London or Manhattan over and over again? Then I’m sure you’d say the same thing about NY or London too. So before you judge Paris, come and visit downtown Paris, it’s monuments and historical places in person. Every big city consists of a few rough suburbs but that doesn’t mean that the whole city is like that. Vive la France ♥️🇫🇷

    • @MesRevesEnRose

      The difference is NYC and London have learned how to include immigrant culture into its economic model. It is seen as a plus and has breathed modernity into those cities.

    • @ashrafash9302
      @ashrafash9302 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MesRevesEnRose That’s where Paris is struggling a bit. Because mass immigration is totally new to the city, whereas NY & London have been dealing with it for decades. It will take some time for Paris to use its immigrants for its betterment. Like you mentioned.

      Hello C You have to try raclette in my opinion! And I’d say Disneyland isn’t worth it if you’re only there for 2 days- there are so many amazing museums, monuments & theatres to see! Lots of love from Paris, bisous !

    • @johnnyrockets10
      @johnnyrockets10 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the individual. I worked in finance in NYC and it's an amazing city if you want great work opportunities and to make lots of money. Otherwise, to me Paris is better in every way (I moved to Paris but also have plenty of family there). To be honest, I was raised by quite snobby European parents and NYC just feels like a city of peasants to me, with no sophistication.

    • @Alex-qb1nt
      @Alex-qb1nt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, NY agglomeration is almost 20 millions, Paris agglomeration is about 12 millions. It's still consequent but smaller. So it's hard to compete for Paris with such a city.
      However, there is many places to explore in Paris, during the day, the evening (it's great because you do not have to wait the night to party. A 7pm there is afterworks and beautifulls bars opened), and the nigth.
      Since 6/7 years, there is more and more choice.
      Museum
      Vuitton fondation,
      Picasso Museum,
      Pinault Musem soon,
      etc
      Fancy concerts places
      Philarmonie,
      La Seine Musicial,
      etc.
      Parks :
      Parc Monceau
      Tuileries
      Parc des buttes chaumon
      Jardin du Luxembourg
      Champs de Mars
      Parc Monsouris
      Bois de Vincennes (it's big and there is a Zoo in it)
      Bois de Boulognes
      etc
      A few bars with nice views and design :
      Comptoir Generale
      Le perchoir 75011
      Le perchoir Marais
      Kong Bar
      Rosa Bonhneur
      Pavillon puebla
      Generator rooftop (open till 10pm)
      Kube bar
      Alcazar
      Presciption cocktail club
      Ballroom beef club
      Badaboom
      Moonshiner
      Wanderlust
      Garage club in the same building as Wanderlust
      Debonair rooftop
      Petit Bain
      Cafe Barge
      Concrete
      Ground control
      La felicita
      Bhudda Bar
      Bhudda bar hotel - they have a nice bar : le Qautre
      Manko Paris (peruvian bar)
      Monsieur bleu
      Les grands verres
      Verde by Yeels
      etc

    Paris is lowkey a bit overrated. The people there are (with exeptions for some really nice people) pretty rude and always look like the wanna kill you lmao. And tbh, if you stay in such luxury do you really go to discover the city or to show of? But it's not (like some people say) full of immigrants. Actually, the immigrante were the nicest people that I met there lmao.
