    We try and fail to speak the Turkish language with the rolling r sound. Classic English teachers. This Turkey gulet cruise vlog we go to English Harbour in Turkey is where part of the British navy hid during World War 2 and also a place where president Erdoğan vacations. We explored the Greek ruins of Kissebükü Koyu and again talk about the population exchange between Greece and Turkey. Finally we go on a walk to get a great view of the bay and having a bbq on the beach with Turkish lamb and other Turkish food.

    Welcome to the official Travel Beans TH-cam channel! On this channel, you’ll find a variety of travel and vlog content, in which you’ll see us in places like Thailand, Japan, USA, Slovenia, and more.
    In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
    After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
    Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

    Actually you are wrong about the population exchange. It was the Greek government requested such a concept and Turkey agreed upon it. So, the Greek government initiated the exchange not the Turks

    Such villages were abondened not because Turks didn't care nor like those places rather there weren't enough Turks to populate them!! In western media Turkish casualties in WW1 and the Turkish war of independence is always completely ignored that you can guess why but in reality Turkish people lost more than 3 million people (23% of total Turkish population) in WW1 and the Turkish war of independence because of the civil wars against Greeks and Armenians, military casualties, lack of food and medicine etc while there were more than 60 million people living in Germany which was actually way smaller than Turkey so Turkey's population skyrocketed from around 10 million to 82 million between 1922 and 2019, this was also one of main reasons why Ottoman was so weak during it's last 100 years due Allied powers had an insane population advantage as around 120 million people were living in Russian empire alone in 19th century and if we include colonies Allied powers were controlling way more than one billion people against 13 million Turks and that's why Allied powers thought colonizing Turkey was possible and Greeks thought they could invade Anatolia after WW1 due there were more than 6 million Greeks against around 11 million Turks but ofc they all couldn't realize the real power of Turkish resistance led by Mustafa Kemal Pasha aka Ataturk :))
    If you ask why they are still empty it's because they are part of forests anymore and according to laws nobody can build anything in green fields even if it is private property but sometimes ''forest fires'' destroy them and big hotels rise from their ashes as sadly the corruption is still a problem in Turkey...

    During exchange both govrrnments made mistakes about settlements for new comers . For example inland people were settled in seaside villages or towns evacuated by Greeks or vice versa .New comers couldn't adopt naturally and left them. That's why some villages are abandoned today.

      Lots of documented ‘old’ sites. We are a young country so not too many ‘ruins’. I heard they discovered one of the oldest villages on earth in Alberta or British Columbia. They say it is 10000 years older than the pyramids! What!!

    • @behutsultan4883
      @behutsultan4883 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately wrong, although names are Arabic, sounds and pronunciation are Turkish. These are completely Turkish names with Arabic origin. If you say these names to an Arabian person, he would not understand what do you mean.

    In the last a few videos you emphasized and underlined that 'Turkish government forced the Greeks to leave immediately' again, and again, and again several times. For the Greek side, you just skipped it quickly with 'vice versa'. It is the Greece who needed Greeks in order to have ethnic majority in Greece. So they wanted to bring the Greeks in Turkey to Greece. Turkey had enough Turks. So Turkey was not dying to get more Turks. But it had to accept Turks (and other muslim nations or minorities) from Greece and Balkans for the last 150 years on several occasions.

    • @AKHELUS.
      @AKHELUS. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, I noticed the "vice versa" from both of them. I don't know why they don't want to state the facts.

    THIS WAS A MUTUAL HUMAN CHANGE. that did not just Greeks, Muslims also came to Turkey in greece. FURTHER, THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT DID NOT FORCED THE GREEKS TO GO. Turkish and Greek government mutually agreed and the Greeks in Istanbul were excluded. Don't speak so confidently if you don't know enough about a topic. because I lose my respect.

  • @OgedayKaan
    @OgedayKaan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    3:35 i don't know where you have learned it but the greek side is the one who requested the population exchange. besides, it was not based on ethnicity, it was based on religion. it was not and exchange of turks and greeks but muslims and christians... (at least you can read it from wikipedia. "... The initial request for an exchange of population came from Greek Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos[4] in a letter he submitted to the League of Nations on October 16, 1922..." )

    Fun Fact, when Erdoğan is going to pass the street of your local shop in İstanbul, the street gets closed down until he passes through, makes whatever visit he wants and then opens up when he leaves.
    As if he's in the middle of a battleground. Warships? Seriously?
    Other than that, I never understand how you Brits can't pronounce it. Just touch a bit above your teeth with your tongue's mid section. The poblem of brits, is that they try to do it with the 'tip' of their tongues, which blocks the speech and causes them to stutter when spelling it.
    The population exchange was something Greece wanted as well. And it more to do with the socio-economic structure. In Ottoman Era, Greeks were quite fine in Anatolia, they were richer, had their own community, better educated and such. It was not about nationality, but rather, not having a quarrelsome folk, with a minority having that much wealth against significantly poorer majority.
    It would simmer trouble eventually. Turks from the urban areas were co existing, but when the more pastoral people enter the scene, it could have heralded disaster.
    Most people think greeks were a loss of Anatolian infrastructure.

  • @Gillby47
    @Gillby47 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing to remember about ethnic Greeks and Turks being sent to live in Greece and Turkey is that they had lived in their villages for generations.They integrated and intermarried.It was a tragedy when they were forced to leave their homes.
