    A year ago I was at a watch show and a small blue watch sitting on the edge of a table caught my eye. No matter where I went, or who I was talking to, I kept looking back at it. I'd never seen anything quite like it, and I thought about it for months until I eventually bought it.

    It's a very nice watch Shane and it's a good buy. Great colour for the summer ! That dial finishing is very cool. 37mm normally wouldn't suit me but that dial and matching bezel gives it a bigger look than a standard 37mm. I do like that Nodus actually relegate the movement themselves.

    Great video as usual. Ended up returning mine. As for the dial, it does look great on larger wrists. Mine is around 8 inches and I like smaller watches. The rough crown was unusual at least for me because I own three other Nodus models with no such issue. I found the clasp to be too big. It compromised the sleekness of the watch.

    I had a CW 36mm Sealander, and for me 36x20 was perfect. Didn't look overly out of proportion and the 20 mm bracelet allowed a small watch to still have some wrist-presence. 😀Had a similarly sized clasp too, which I always thought felt fine, and added to the wrist -presence.

      @Mister_Phafanapolis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      20mm is a better choice for a 36mm watch. _Usually_ lug width is half of diameter but I think slightly wider with a 4mm drop to the clasp is the right move.
      As much as I despite the Swiss Watch Mafia, have to give praise to Rolex for sussing out the “correct” proportions for a 36mm watch a thousand years ago.

    There's something refreshing about watching a review where the reviewer actually believes in the praise he's giving to the watch and not just because it's a paid promotion. Not saying that the paid reviews are disingenuous, but in some of the review channels it's all they do and I've found myself losing some trust in those. Glad to see a review with actual money spent on the watch.

    • @Mister_Phafanapolis

      Hard to take anything Random Rob says seriously as all his stuff is catch and release, things sent in to him to show off, review samples, etc. etc. Whatever he says is his favorite watch today will be sold in several weeks.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Hopefully, people don't see this as hypocritical as I still cover many that are also sent in. Although I try to treat everything the same.
      Now for me, I think the bigger issue with most channels is more from them not taking their time with anything. They aren't spending enough time to catch any of the issues/flaws. Sometimes you need to wear it a bit and definitely take it outside.
      Sometimes it's completely obvious they just flipped the camera on as soon as they got something. It drives me nuts when I see a bracelet that isn't even sized. Although in general, I don't fully trust any channel that's doing more than 3 videos a week. Not that they are necessarily doing something shady, it's just there is no way you can do a full assessment of anything in that amount of time. Which winds up doing your viewers a great disservice, as they are going to spend a lot of money based on what you're saying.

    The watch really looks bigger than 36.5 on your wrist. Your correct about the wrist presence. Maybe because the bright blue bezel gives the effect of a larger dial.

    I am a fan of Nodus. My first Nodus was also a Duality. When I first saw this watch I was not impressed though. I thought the ceramic bezel was a cool idea, but the texture dial seemed a bit odd. So I wasn't really interested. And then I saw it in person for the first time at an Intersect event, and very quickly in person it changed my mind. I was like wow this is much nicer in person than I expected. The texture dial which I didn't like much in pictures, works very well in person, and adds great lightplay to the dial. I ended up getting the black version and I really love it as GADA sports watch that's different but both dressy/casual much better than you would expect. The yellow is also very nice. I think should do more colors to be honest.
    And I agree the only thing I think I would say that is missing is a hardness coating. I think hardness coatings are the next "adjustable clasp." A feature generally not found on more affordable watches that micro brands should consider adding as a perk. I used to think it was gimmicky but Traska has changed my mind and now I wish more watches offered hardness coatings.

    Shane, I have two Nodus watches. The Sector Sport and the Sector Pilot. Love them both, but like you mentioned, the crown on the Pilot is super rough on the knurling itself and the crown is quite wobbly after being unscrewed. These are easy QC fixes which hopefully they have rectified since. For some reason the crown on the Sport is perfect, so it’s more a matter of will here - these are not hard issues to fix. They need to clean this up as it can make or break a sale given the competition. Cheers!

    Of all the American microbrands I think Nodus is my favourite however I still haven't pulled the trigger and it's probably down to the additional import taxes I'd have to pay living in Europe which kind of makes this less appealing and right at the top end of mid range microbrand (400-800€ incl. taxes). There are a few UK/European dealers that sometimes have 'nearly new' Nodus watches but sadly neither the Unity nor Sector Sport have popped up on sale yet.
    For the price you'd kind of want all the niggles fixed but sometimes they add a little character and if the overall package is great I'd generally forget about those on a day to day basis. But thanks for another great honest review.

    First thing that comes to mind when seeing it and even before watching your review is that it looks like as if it emulates 1960s home gadgets in terms of colour and unifying features of dial and bezel, them being of the same glossy colour, not dissimilar to those tin toys kids used to have back in the day. Or your toaster or coffee maker for that matter. Which is rather charming.

    I always enjoy the reviews. This is a good looking watch, but compared to other micro-brands at the top of the game the price seems on the high side if I compare apples to apples. I've seen the proprietary clasp and was not impressed. It feels flimsy and looks rough when extended.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nodus has always been a little on the high side. I think a lot of that is due to some of the complexity of their designs and the US Assembly with further regulation.
      I mean with this one especially, with 3 different layers to the dial, can't be cheap to make.
      That and CA isn't a cheap state to be in. Business taxes/fees bleed you dry there, but that's not necessarily the consumer's problem.

      I'm curious about it, but no immediate plans. The Hangzhou micro-rotor is pretty cool, I have another watch with it as well. At some point I really need to take a look at something from Baltic. • @Organic_ape
      @Organic_ape 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RelativeTime Yes, Hermetique is an attractive watch as well. What I love about Baltic movement is its ornamental finish. Maybe it does need a bit more detailing work on it but it's miles ahead of all boring, plain, grey looking even Swiss movements that for unknown reasons been put under display glass. Looking at my 1916 Hampden rolled gold pocket watch beautiful movement I always wondered why this level of craftsmanship was abandoned in favour of generic, uninspiring looking movements - unless it's some mouthful French named watches that cost more than a car or even house. And then comes Baltic and dispells this myth for not much money at all.

      So that's who came up with that.. LOl someone else mentioned it. Although I think you typed it wrong. If Jory is saying it, probably should be in all caps.

      It is, although that might be changing. At least with micros... interset seems to be waning a little bit. See what happens over the next few years.

    Good design, but not the best QC nor great in value. Try harder Nodus. If Aragon and Zelos can make better watches yet cheaper, you should at least make sure your watch and bracelet is in great ergonomics.

    I've almost stopped the video a few times because you don't mention the bracelet length. That as much as everything you mentioned matters to me on wrist. Most reviewers don't talk about that. I won't consider a watch when I don't know those specs too

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You know I've never actually thought about that. Partially because I think It also relates to how long the watch head is to in terms of it'll fit. I do usually try to mention if the bracelet is somewhat short. Like if there aren't many links to take off after I adjusted to mine.
      You're also the first to ever ask.
      But next time I'll try to include that. I'm assuming it's as simple as taking the bracelet off and measuring across. Hopefully my calipers can open that wide.

    What's wrong with these youtubers obsession for tiny watches but it's very annoying 😮‍💨
    Is it really a market for sub 38mm ? I received the Traska newsletter and John Mack said that the Commuter 34mm was a sales failure. I don't know but it's obvious that it's a niche of a niche...

      Well if you look at the rest of the channel, you'll see this size is a rarity for me. In fact it's why I didn't buy it when I first saw it. I usually stick to 40 +- a mm or so.
      Now that said, the last few times I've looked at some smaller watches views so pretty well, so for better or worse there is interest out there.
