Thanks mate!! Yeah I dunno if I could ever go past a GQ for the bush haha, but certainly for the road it’ll be nice to be a bit quieter and have aircon and not feel like I’m gonna die on every corner. 😅😅
Really love any and all Patrol content, especially yours! We never got the Patrol in Canada and in my humble opinion, it is the most perfect off-road vehicle, not to mention extremely cool looking. Really looking forward to this build! Thanks for having me/ us along for the ride Tim!
Thanks mate!! I’ve actually since discovered that it’s not that unaffordable to import one from Japan.. so might be worth looking into? Just don’t drive it on the road up there in winter with a full boxed chassis 🥲
The steel Heim joints on the sway-bar links will drive you nuts! Can't keep them lubricated enough to silence the squeeking all the bloody time. First mud hole, washes out the grease. PITA.
I run them in the GQ in a few spots, 2 options. Use a dry film spray, or get boots for them from Design Fab. I run boots on mine now and they never squeak 👍🏻
As always another great video and well thought out reasons for the parts chosen to suit the purpose for your build. Congratulations on buying a house. Onwards and upwards mate. 👍🤛

Congrats on the house mate, awesome to see another build on the show, would love to see suspension setup on the gq, didn't realise how low it is, keep up the good work
Thanks mate appreciate that, yeah the GQ is looowwww. I mean you can tell when you see it parked next to other rigs, even next to dans racecar it was tiny haha. Cheers mate will do 👍🏻
Nice upload. Its probably been supplied in the kit and you've got it fitted anyway, but maybe cover the Brake Proportioning Valve Bracket on the rear of the diff (what it does, and how it functions with the lift you've chosen). Cheers Jim
Yeah it’s sitting there, tbh I’ve never noticed a difference with or without one in the GQ haha, never braked better with or without it, but probably cause it’s not lifted that much 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Congrats on the house Timmy! The only bloke to have bought and house and still be balling on superior gear. Keen to see the tray and canopy setup on the gu. 2.5’s are porn too
Hahaha to be fair superior look after me but I do have a long long list of purchase history with them 😂😂 I reckon parts might slow down while I get used to house repayments but that won’t stop me from building stuff out of metal 😂😂👊🏻👊🏻
It’s amazing how tuff the little Ht 18 turbos are, mine had done 300k at between 16/20 psi boost and had no shaft play when I replaced it 🤠 Fatz airbox really lets them breathe better though
Yeah I honestly think I might go to a bonnet entry I froth the look of them and the air filters are perfect and huge, and the little HT18’s are goat turbos dude I feel no need to replace it, even the factory pump has more to give and it’s running 22psi
Awesome video mate,im an old fart learning new tricks from you just about every episode and i like the no bullshit. It either works or it doesnt and we know you test it to the limits before you give your opinion. cheers mate
Yeah that’s definitely true haha, but I can definitely build a cool tube one now I have the bender and that so keen to try a heap of tube in it, I just hope it ends up looking different to the GQ one 😂
Look forward to the front, please go though what angle you should be aiming for on the kingpins so i can see if my 5 link is correct. I went dobbo MRA shocks
Yeah definitely will, from my shotty memory reading through the GQ manual from my last setup I’m pretty sure factory spec is between 1-2°. And yeah I’ve heard really good things about the Dobbo MRR, in fact I’ve only heard 1 person to not like em, but never tried them myself 👍🏻👍🏻
@@timmyhasheart i read alot about more angle depending on tyre size and lift, to the point you dont need a steering dampner. Idk im torn because i have 37s for off road but on road it drives so bad i dont even want to drive it. 6 months now i havent touched the car
@superhacker101 yeah right interesting, well think of it like a bicycle, like if you had forks straight down the bars would shake and would be hard to steer, the more tilted the forks are the more stable it is and the more inertia brings it back to centre, so in theory that’s right more castor the better, however you also have to think about pinion angle because it’s static to the king pins, so the more castor you apply the more uni bind you’ll get, especially on full droop. In my GQ I don’t run a steering damper if you suss my other videos, and that has 2° castor and 37’s with no balancing whatsoever.
I’m an absolute ape when it comes to understanding shocks and shock tuning mate I wouldn’t share something I wasn’t sure about myself, I use soft on the clicker when I’m doing slow and bumpy, and I use hard on the clicker when I’m on road or doing fast stuff at the beach 🔥🔥 Dan Kistler is the shock man 👍🏻
Heck yeah man I’m glad I could inspire you!, yeah mines the same in the Q aside from hyperflex and hydros, I absolutely love the gear dude and makes it so easy to engineer if you wanna go down the legal route!
@timmyhasheart yeah thats the plan with mine eventually get it fully engineered especially with the way the hwy patrol are here in nsw How much down travel will the sway bars allow
Genuinely curious if a leaf rear end would be better suited to a heavier touring setup? You can still get flex from them with longer shocks etc but don't they deal with weight better?. I mean as you stated at the start was a mates car and you knew history so easy choice.
Leaf would be better for carrying weight, but I just wouldn’t run a leafy, prefer coil ride, prefer coil diff size, prefer disk brakes, list goes on and this won’t actually carry that much weight, as I said it’s still gonna be mostly hard wheeler just with a box that’s a bit more liveable than the Q 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome work mate. Looking forward to seeing how it all works. Need to update my GUs suspension to so keen on this. Congratulations on the new home to.
Congrats on the new house Timmy, and awesome work on the GU. I don’t think I would be able to do the sort of Superior mods you’ve done there to my GU wagon, I’d be paying some else.. very jealous though! Can I ask what it cost you for all that gear from Superior? Obviously they’re a sponsor for you but what does it cost the average punter? 10k 15k? Keep up the good work!
Yeah so I’m working with them now, which I mean on one hand I do feel incredibly blessed because I was a big fan of their gear and a loyal customer long before they worked with me, but on the other hand it’s still a lot of work to make these episodes nothing is free. 👍🏻👍🏻 I paid full price for my first kit in the GQ and was just an average customer and I think there would probably be maybe 10-12k worth under it. 👍🏻 saying that, I stopped counting the money that I’d put into that GQ once I got to like 6 figures haha. Everything costs money on them but the great thing is too, you don’t need to spend big money the most important thing is wheeling them, when you break them maybe look at making it stronger etc. thanks for the comment mate appreciate it 🔥
Hahaha, I froth it dude.. I loved all the gear under the GQ so much.. even before the GQ I just used to love looking at those big superior arms under any other car. 🫡
Sick video Timmy, I love the details. What length shocks are in the gu? How do you unlink the sway bars in GQ ? If both sides what do you do to retain them?
The GU shocks are only 5”, which is the longest option for the 2.5’s, and it’s 3”. I have a permanent occy strap that lives under there to grab one end to keep it from hanging down haha
Speaking of bananaing at 7:39 it looks like you’ve really cranked down on the bench vice at some stage, the old handle has some banana action going on haha
Hey mate. Great info. You gonna put shock tower extensions in front? I’m running 20mm shock tower extensions with same shock and mine sits at about 3.5 inch lift. It’s no flex monster but gives you the uptravel you’ll need.
Probably not in this car if I don’t have to but I do run massive extensions in the front of the GQ, the shock mounting surface is right up in the engine bay. I won’t use them in this if I can get away with it because it’ll give me more down travel! But I’ll see where it sits after it’s lifted and loaded 👊🏻👊🏻
@@timmyhasheart those “mates” are gunna come out of the wordwork when they find out you have a hoist hahaha. Take care mate. Looking forward to the next video. Should come say hi next time you’re in Melbourne. I live in the yarra valley with some wicked tracks around that would suit the GU and GQ 🤙
I wish Superior did the 2.5 res shocks for the 80s, I don't see anything but 2.0s on site currently and also they don't do the sway bars like they do for the Patrol, I went with there Superpro option, it was a bit of a nightmare at the front, easy at the rear. The extended rear links actually really help with rear flex, mine is probably better at the rear than ever, but on road is so much better also. I need extended links for the front, which I never got so need to sort, very important if anyone is doing this on an 80s, also if your is a 91 I'm not sure when they updated the chassis to sway bar link, you may need a different bracket/sway bar saddle to fit, there is a 60mm e2e bracket, like mine on the 1991 and a 68mm saddle bracket on later model 80s, Superpro do have the part number for both but the bigger one comes with the sway bars, as dos the sway bar bush, front and rear will need to be changed if you have the older style. In case anyone's doing this on an 80s! that I also wish I'd gone with long arms on the lower control arms, but can still do that later on. I have done both upper and lowers CA's. I went with adj for both in case I increase travel when I decide what shocks to upgrade to. I want the 2.5s so might have to be EFS or Kings which are bloody expensive, but my TT Dobis are getting pretty flogged. esp the fronts, particularly the right front, which I think I blew over this Xmas New Years, it blows through its travel on that side quite easily, other side is still good, next for me is also Superior Drag links/Tie Rods! Great work, love the channel, don't give up on the GQ, it be around as long as, still making part's and many AF options, still huge demand, so don't see that going anywhere, plus many GU parts fit, but I like the GU idea for touring idea. Look forward to the 5link and front end vid, cheers!🤘
In Case anyone needs part numbers for Toyota 80series re stock links and Superpros's for the 30mm sway bar upgrade here they are! SuperPro - Saddles 60mm e2e SPF0984K you will need 2 packets, each come with 2 saddles per packet. you will need both for front and rear. Superpro Bush Kit for the smaller saddle, SPF2755SK also 2 bush per packet.
Na mate only bushes I know of that you grease is aftermarket polyethylene crap which id stay as far away from as you possibly can. Genuine bushes only and they’re a press fit, so no grease cause you want it locked in there, and then where the bolt goes through you also want that locked in there. Thinks like the superior sway bar links used to have a grease nipple but these new ones don’t. And I wouldn’t grease nuts and bolts in suspension if anything I’d loctite but they’re all cone lock anyway 👍🏻👍🏻
@@timmyhasheart Yes loctite the locking nuts but thought you would want the dismantling / replace repair out in the field easier. Thanks for the reply.
Great video mate my 08 GU wagon is in dire need of a suspension overhaul and would love to do something like this. However, I don't want to go through the hassle of engineering.
Awesome mate. You're appealing to us dads with this one. At some stage you need a bit of comfort as well as capability. In your opinion would it be worth turning a gu wagon into a dual cab? I like camping and a bit of touring, but love to drive some fun stuff every now and then. Being a plumber with two kids, the dual cab is a must. I'm so disappointed with the market. The 79 doesn't flex and is so expensive plus mods. The hilux isn't solid front axel. And the patrols aren't dual cab. After an auto a well as I'm 84 model and just want to chill a bit. Would be very grateful for your insight, cheers.
Honestly I do like the idea of a patrol platform for a family tourer/sometimes tough track however I’d never chop one into a dual cab. I’d get a wagon, whatever motor you’re after, and then either deck it out low and light and try cram everything into it for you and your kids, or get yourself a camper trailer that can keep the kids comfy as well as being able to unhook it to play. I don’t like the chopped dual cab platform because your tray ends up entirely behind the rear wheels, I can’t see them wheeling well and you’re adding a wagon ass end back to it if you put a canopy on it anyway except there will be less room and more weight to what it was before. 👍🏻👍🏻 Otherwise maybe a Jeep? Although I’ve never had one before. But yeah a GU patrol or a Jeep would be my best suggestion 👍🏻
@@timmyhasheart Hey thanks for the response Timmy. Yeah I see what you mean with the weight over the rear of the axel. N70 with solid front axel conversion? lol Camper trailers are the go for kids, but wagon is no good for tools and materials, shovels, concrete etc I'll probably just get a second hand n80 and stop dreaming. They seem like they would go most places I need them to. Just avoid the crazy stuff. Edit: Jeep Gladiator with a canopy huh? Hmmm, I'm not totally against that. Might look into them. I always wondered what it would be like to run shotgun in a tow truck 😜
Yeah I like the hilux platform although you can’t SAS anything newer than an N70 legally (due to ESC coming in) so if you’re looking into a solid axle down the track maybe a dual cab N70 hilux with the option to SAS it later if you want to get into the tougher stuff and keep breaking it
Hahaha I dunno if I could ever pick the GU over the GQ but it depends how cool looking it ends up. 👀 even when this had the tray on it it still just got parked in the yard and I drove the GQ even on the hottest days haha, but we’ll see!!
Yeah I’ve heard it from a couple of people, I bought them for the GQ but they’re now just sitting in the shed, haven’t bothered to put them in permanently. As the car sits the suspension is legal so not keen to permanently alter it.
Thanks heaps mate, I reckon anyone who wants to have a crack should definitely do it, I will say that I’ve had a lot of help from friends in the TH-cam space like advice and that and would be happy to pass on advice but I will also say it’s a bloody lot of work.. 😂😂 like each one of these is you know, doing the job twice as slow cause you’re filming, charging gear, backing up footage, editing takes hours and hours and you finally finish one, and after the first few days it’s lost into TH-cam space and it’s time to make a new one for a new fortnight, but yeah if you’re determined then it’s super rewarding 👊🏻👊🏻
Dead set stock turbo, stock pump, stock cooler and the thing actually boogies with room to move in the pump still, thing is sooting at 22psi and still have a shim on and 90 of pin rotation. I’ve run out of turbo and cooler though
Well it’s probably about 3y old of bouncing around in the GQ and then the GU haha, but yeah non remote res shocks are definitely a lot more compressible by hand than remote res, but it was also very old and beaten on haha.
Great build. I've got a heavily built GQ wagon but want a canopy ute setup. Been planning an extra cab chop but might just go a GU body. How do you find the space in the GU ute in comparison to your chopped GQ?
Haha I know, but I’m always willing to sacrifice a little bit of livability and style points for stability offroad, so it’ll be a short, low canopy, and a short tray, and a low ish car with heaps of weight low that’s all I can really do 👊🏻👊🏻
I do like the look of buds long arms, however they do not pass under VSB14 in Tassie. And putting my number plate online constantly it needs to be engineerable, and I do have S3 headlights I just like sprucing up the front a bit. Nice easy way to make it look a bit phancy
Oh really haha, I cut it right right down because I thought it was dragging on a bit that’s why it gets a bit jumpy, but I’ll take that onboard mate thank you 🙏🏻
Wicked episode mate. Out of interest, where did you get your GQ engineered in Tas? And did that include tyres? I’ve got a tb48 with a 4inch lift and 35s. Any possibility of getting it engineered in Tas? Cheers again!
I was looking up the parts as you installed them. My feelings are hurt and my wallet is in the fetal position rocking back and forth. At least my kids arent smart enough that I have to worry about paying for Uni or anything of that nature...
Hahahaha I know, it adds up id hate to know what I spent in the end on superior gear in the GQ but it was probably nearly double figures 😂😂 but I mean it’s good gear and this hobby just costs money and so I resigned to that fact early on knowing I wasn’t gonna try sell it for a profit and here we are, it shows in how capable the cars are 🫡🫡
Yeah it’s never gonna handle like a factory set of arms but I mean we don’t lift our cars that much and we run sway bars 🤷🏻♂️ I’m fine with how it handles I’m used to hyperflex which handles about the same and don’t feel unsafe mate 👌🏻👌🏻
Ahhh, not solely just changing box oil that I can remember but I’ve done like a service video on the GQ in the past and then recently I did a video where I changed the GQ gearbox and that involved oil
Mines been sitting on the shelf nearly a year, superior do the testing, compliance, it’s engineered for how it sits right now, never had an issue since I installed the long arms 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ people love to hear stuff, buy stuff, repeat it to others to justify their purchases, same as all this crazy suspension going around.. I’ve managed to get home from all the places I’ve ever wheeled with what I’ve got so I dunno.. I take it all with a grain of salt as should people take what I say with a grain of salt? Figure out what you like and make it your first priority to get out and use the stuff.
Na any questions welcome mate, they don’t mount to the original mounts, I’ve included a link on how to install the long arms in the description, I’ve already filmed it before. 👍🏻👍🏻
Man, such a good video from start to finish. Gives me inspiration to start my own channel soon. Do you just film on a phone that connects to your mic on your hat?
Do it!! It’s good fun and gives me something to look back on, I was stoked when people started following along and enjoying it too. I filmed most of my videos on iPhone and only the last 2 or 3 have been on an actual camera, I definitely prefer the phone for ease of use but you can’t beat the audio and picture quality of a mic and camera 👍🏻👍🏻
@timmyhasheart yeah that's why I want to film trips and stuff cause when your old and you can't remember you can just re watch it. How do you connect that mic to a camera, my mates got one and I thought it could only connect through an app on your phone
You could do it a few different ways but mine just has 2 pieces of flat bar at the bottom of the flap with the flap sandwiched between and then one of the links of the chain with a bolt through it, then have a shackle on the top side to the tray so you can chain them up
I really do believe that you deserve bigger numbers on this channel.

Awesome video mate, great start to the GU build. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. Cheers
Cheers dude thanks for watching, very keen to get the GU back on the road!
Awesome video mate,im an old fart learning new tricks from you just about every episode and i like the no bullshit. It either works or it doesnt and we know you test it to the limits before you give your opinion. cheers mate
Thanks heaps mate I’m learning just as much I guarantee that haha, cheers for watching 👊🏻👊🏻
Super interesting stuff mate. Love the technical detail you go into like pinion angle setup.
Congrats on the new place.
Thanks heaps mate appreciate it, love understanding everything properly and love to share what I learn 👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks Timmy. Cheers
🫡🫡🔥🔥
Awesome job Timmy.
I bet you’re not sad that you sold the tray now, much easier to do the rear with no tray on it 👍🏽
Yeah that’s definitely true haha, but I can definitely build a cool tube one now I have the bender and that so keen to try a heap of tube in it, I just hope it ends up looking different to the GQ one 😂
Timmy Timmy Timmy you’re a legend 🤙🏻
Haha cheers dude 🔥🔥
Great vid mate. Can’t wait for the rest of the build
Thanks dude, Neither!! I’ve missed this car!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Good ep mate, thanks
Thanks mate 🔥👊🏻🙏🏻
This channel is so good.
Thanks so much mate 🙏🏻🙏🏻 appreciate you
Super exciting about the house man!
Thanks mate, it is exciting! The repayments aren’t but you get that. 😅
Scratch that it’s roughly between 2-3.5°
@@timmyhasheart i read alot about more angle depending on tyre size and lift, to the point you dont need a steering dampner.
Oh wicked ! VEry lucky to have both ! Go the Patrol cool video ! 🛻😎🤙
Thanks heaps mate!! Wasn’t luck though, I’ve paid very much so for both of them hahaha.
Ohh timmy, another killer build series is on its way,btw congrats on the house🍻
Thanks heaps mate!! Keen to get cracking on this car and also get into the new place and sort a hoist out! Would have made these jobs easier 😅
Love the work, was just wondering if you could go in depth about the shock tuning and what to adjust for certain applications cheers
I’m an absolute ape when it comes to understanding shocks and shock tuning mate I wouldn’t share something I wasn’t sure about myself, I use soft on the clicker when I’m doing slow and bumpy, and I use hard on the clicker when I’m on road or doing fast stuff at the beach 🔥🔥 Dan Kistler is the shock man 👍🏻
This got me wanting to get my ute back on the road even more now have preety much the same suspension setup apart from the 5 link in the front
Heck yeah man I’m glad I could inspire you!, yeah mines the same in the Q aside from hyperflex and hydros, I absolutely love the gear dude and makes it so easy to engineer if you wanna go down the legal route!
@timmyhasheart yeah thats the plan with mine eventually get it fully engineered especially with the way the hwy patrol are here in nsw
How much down travel will the sway bars allow
Awesome stuff Timmy. Very jealous of your two patrols. Looking forward to the next vid 👍
Haha cheers mate, they’re definitely cool cars, I still prefer the Q but this one will get there 🔥🔥
Looking forward to watching your journey with the GU Patrol @timmyhasheart!
Haha so am I!! Thank you 🤩
Congratulations on your purchase of the house and bring on the big builds
Thanks mate!! 🙏🏻
Down to earth honest content you have my full attention in all your videos all the best to you
That’s bloody awesome mate, good to hear thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
awesome work Timmy, this will be a Beast of a GU, look forward to the next vid💪
Cheers mate!! 🔥👊🏻
@@timmyhasheart 🦾🦾🦾
It's about time, timmy. Start getting that GU more set up. lol keep up the good show air
For sure, keen to drive this thing again I’ve missed it, cheers mate 👊🏻👊🏻
Great info mate. Definitely will be setting my pinion angle like that
That’s how it’s set my man 👌🏻👌🏻
Awesome work mate. Looking forward to seeing how it all works. Need to update my GUs suspension to so keen on this. Congratulations on the new home to.
Awesome thank you mate! Same here & very keen to drive the GU again, it’s been just sitting since the tray was gone, 🔥

Great episode loved it!

Good on you mate congrats on the house looking forward too uploads👍

Nice work mate 👍
Cheers dude thanks for watching 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Congrats on the house and shed!
Cheers mate!!!
I paid full price for my first kit in the GQ and was just an average customer and I think there would probably be maybe 10-12k worth under it. 👍🏻 saying that, I stopped counting the money that I’d put into that GQ once I got to like 6 figures haha. Everything costs money on them but the great thing is too, you don’t need to spend big money the most important thing is wheeling them, when you break them maybe look at making it stronger etc. thanks for the comment mate appreciate it 🔥
proper good video like all of yours! look forward to the next one.
Thanks heaps mate cheers for watching! Every fortnight!! Although I might miss a week when I start moving gear to the new place 🤷🏻♂️
Congratulations on your new house tim!
Thank you!! 🙏🏻
Congratulations on the house purchase mate, I'm sure it will help with more great content to come
Let’s hope so!! I just hope I can still live freely and have fun with the repayments looming over me every fortnight’s haha
Great now You’ve got me pricing up the whole superior catalogue again 😂👌
Hahaha, I froth it dude.. I loved all the gear under the GQ so much.. even before the GQ I just used to love looking at those big superior arms under any other car. 🫡
Sick video Timmy, I love the details.
What length shocks are in the gu?
How do you unlink the sway bars in GQ ? If both sides what do you do to retain them?
The GU shocks are only 5”, which is the longest option for the 2.5’s, and it’s 3”. I have a permanent occy strap that lives under there to grab one end to keep it from hanging down haha
Good work keen to see this build 😊😊 and congratulations on the house
Thanks so much mate I appreciate you watching & commenting 👊🏻👊🏻
Speaking of bananaing at 7:39 it looks like you’ve really cranked down on the bench vice at some stage, the old handle has some banana action going on haha
Hahaha I think pressing patrol bushes is probably to thank for that 😂😂😂
I hang out for these videos! Also love the Berrima diesel snoozer pops up again!
Haha couldn’t help myself, thanks mate 🔥
Great job Tim thanks for great content and awesome editing
Cheers dude thanks for watching!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Hey mate.
Another great video mate. Love watching your builds 👍oh and congrats on the house. I bet a lot of work will get done on the hoist haha.
Thanks so much dude, and you’re damned right it will haha, thing is gonna get worked hard by both me and my mates I reckon 😂😂
The GQ will never be forgotten mate it’s the GU that’s stayed parked up all this time and I daily the Q 😂 thanks for watching 👊🏻👊🏻
Epic rig Timmy 🍻👌🏼
Thanks mate!!
Man Timmy looking sweet. Makes we want to get superior gear 😂
Haha good, it’s good gear, couldn’t fault any of the stuff I bought for the GQ years and years ago so went back 🤷🏻♂️ stick to what you know 👊🏻👊🏻
Love it....keep doing what your doing.
Always mate cheers 🤝🏻
Yeahhh boy let’s get her done what a way to spend ya Sunday morning watching you big boy
Hahaha cheers dude 👊🏻
@@timmyhasheart no worries mate congrats on the new joint aswell
Once again an awesome Vlog. Do you apply any grease or neversieze to any of the suspension hardware on assembly? Eg nuts, bolts & threaded rod ?
Tbh the engineering for superior gear is super easy because you don’t need to lane change etc, they’ve already done it, so it’s purely paperwork 👍🏻👍🏻
@@timmyhasheart if it's that easy it might be worth doing.
If you don't mind I'd like to pick your brain a little bit so I sent you a message on Instagram
Great video timmy keep it up keen to see more
Cheers mate, that’s good because I have plenty to come!! 🫡🫡
Otherwise maybe a Jeep? Although I’ve never had one before. But yeah a GU patrol or a Jeep would be my best suggestion 👍🏻
@@timmyhasheart Hey thanks for the response Timmy. Yeah I see what you mean with the weight over the rear of the axel.
N70 with solid front axel conversion? lol
Camper trailers are the go for kids, but wagon is no good for tools and materials, shovels, concrete etc
I'll probably just get a second hand n80 and stop dreaming. They seem like they would go most places I need them to. Just avoid the crazy stuff.
Edit: Jeep Gladiator with a canopy huh? Hmmm, I'm not totally against that. Might look into them. I always wondered what it would be like to run shotgun in a tow truck 😜
Yeah I like the hilux platform although you can’t SAS anything newer than an N70 legally (due to ESC coming in) so if you’re looking into a solid axle down the track maybe a dual cab N70 hilux with the option to SAS it later if you want to get into the tougher stuff and keep breaking it
Wicked can’t wait too see the content and can’t wait to she a shed tour
Thanks mate, I’m keen for the shed tour too I wish I didn’t have to be the one to move all this gear there haha 😂😂
Can already tell you’re going to enjoy this more than the gq
Hahaha I dunno if I could ever pick the GU over the GQ but it depends how cool looking it ends up. 👀 even when this had the tray on it it still just got parked in the yard and I drove the GQ even on the hottest days haha, but we’ll see!!
Looking good mate 😁👍
Cheers dude she’s certainly getting there!!
Awesome video bro 🤙🏻
Thanks heaps mate 👊🏻👊🏻
Definitely recommend getting the long arm fix kit from Rampt Customs
Yeah I’ve heard it from a couple of people, I bought them for the GQ but they’re now just sitting in the shed, haven’t bothered to put them in permanently. As the car sits the suspension is legal so not keen to permanently alter it.
Great work mate how good is life with the tray off I changed my sub tank from under neath on the ground what a struggle 👍
Hahaha the sub tanks are dogs, those bolts on the brackets that don’t come out all the way 😝🔫 but we got her done ✅
Love the vid mate what do you film with thinking about starting up my channel building my old hilux
Yep “ super responsive with a pump tickle, would like to drive one with a 115/120 cc 11 mm , would be mint I reckon
Dead set stock turbo, stock pump, stock cooler and the thing actually boogies with room to move in the pump still, thing is sooting at 22psi and still have a shim on and 90 of pin rotation. I’ve run out of turbo and cooler though
Cross Country top mount is worth about 20 kw , with highflowed Munro ht18 I’m 250 egt & 6 psi at a hundred klicks 🤠
at 14:47 i noticed how easily you compressed the old shock. Do certain style of shocks not provide compression damping or was it worn out
Well it’s probably about 3y old of bouncing around in the GQ and then the GU haha, but yeah non remote res shocks are definitely a lot more compressible by hand than remote res, but it was also very old and beaten on haha.
Great build. I've got a heavily built GQ wagon but want a canopy ute setup. Been planning an extra cab chop but might just go a GU body.
How do you find the space in the GU ute in comparison to your chopped GQ?
I think they’re dead seat pretty much bang on the same size to be honest, I’d never chop another GQ but I do rate that I did mine haha. 🔥🔥
interested to see how you go about weight vs touring capability on this one. its a never ending battle for most of us
Haha I know, but I’m always willing to sacrifice a little bit of livability and style points for stability offroad, so it’ll be a short, low canopy, and a short tray, and a low ish car with heaps of weight low that’s all I can really do 👊🏻👊🏻
Buds long arms in the front and stock s3 headlights it would be perfect
I do like the look of buds long arms, however they do not pass under VSB14 in Tassie. And putting my number plate online constantly it needs to be engineerable, and I do have S3 headlights I just like sprucing up the front a bit. Nice easy way to make it look a bit phancy
Congrats on the house mate the vid was amazing it went to fast imo keep it up
Oh really haha, I cut it right right down because I thought it was dragging on a bit that’s why it gets a bit jumpy, but I’ll take that onboard mate thank you 🙏🏻
luv ya work make , keep up the great videos
Cheers dude thanks for watching 🔥
Wicked episode mate. Out of interest, where did you get your GQ engineered in Tas? And did that include tyres? I’ve got a tb48 with a 4inch lift and 35s. Any possibility of getting it engineered in Tas? Cheers again!
Hey mate reach out on Insta if you want the details. 👍🏻
Cheers! Will do
I was looking up the parts as you installed them. My feelings are hurt and my wallet is in the fetal position rocking back and forth. At least my kids arent smart enough that I have to worry about paying for Uni or anything of that nature...
Hahahaha I know, it adds up id hate to know what I spent in the end on superior gear in the GQ but it was probably nearly double figures 😂😂 but I mean it’s good gear and this hobby just costs money and so I resigned to that fact early on knowing I wasn’t gonna try sell it for a profit and here we are, it shows in how capable the cars are 🫡🫡
Favourite ep so far 🤙 but I am building one myself 😆
Haha nice mate they’re a good bus, I dunno if I’d ever prefer it over the GQ but with what I have in mind it’ll be up there!! 🔥
Hows the 5link handle? How much weight do your friends with the 5links carry? I've read reports is very floaty on the road.
Hey mate just wondering if you have done a video on gear box oil change ?
Ahhh, not solely just changing box oil that I can remember but I’ve done like a service video on the GQ in the past and then recently I did a video where I changed the GQ gearbox and that involved oil
@@timmyhasheart is that the 1000 dollar track after video
What do you think of the rampt customs long arm fix?
Might be a rookie question but how do the lower control arms mount to the original mounting brackets being so much longer then the original arms?
Need to drill and weld new mounts onto the chassis mate ..
@@JezzabaleI’ve never used my mic with iPhone I only got that mic when I started filming with a camera
how have u done the chain on the mud guard cos i want to do that to mine but dont know what exactly to do
You could do it a few different ways but mine just has 2 pieces of flat bar at the bottom of the flap with the flap sandwiched between and then one of the links of the chain with a bolt through it, then have a shackle on the top side to the tray so you can chain them up
