What do you guys think? GoPro Creator Edition or David Manning Creator Edition?!
The other option, certainly gives more options.
The David Manning kit is more versatile in some respect, however it’s missing a remote, which (I’m assuming) comes quite handy on the Volta. But what if there were yet another option? Is there a decent GoPro-compatible gimbal that could be an alternative to the Volta? A gimbal would let you add an nd filter without compromising the image when using low shutter speeds, for example. It might also have a rotating option for motion time lapses. Just thinking out loud here lol.

@pez-ANT For sure a cleaner setup! If you're frequently using a battery pack to run your GoPro, the Volta is a nice easy setup. But you're getting 4,900mAh compared to if you're using a 10,000mAh battery pack. Whatever works best for your setup👍
I love the volta! I would turn the camera on and off through the Volta at first it caught me off guard because it wasn't connected but once I started playing with the volta it turns out you can use the volta wirelessly as a complete remote with turning on/off the go pro and changing modes quickly!
So, I did a video this weekend using the Volta and the 2.0 selfie-stick. One important thing I noted: when using the tripod function of the selfie-stick, the camera was top-heavy and was shaking in the wind (ultimately unusable video). I think they both (Volta & selfie stick) have their advantages/drawbacks, but walking down the street vlogging/quick capture, the Volta wins. I actually capture more video because I’m not as worried about battery life or someone noting that I’m turning on the camera
To be similar to GoPro creator kit, you also need to add The Remote, a way to screw the 3-Way 2.0 into a selfie stick with standard thread, AND a way to mount your tripod/selfie stick to any GoPro mount (why don't you mention the pop out mounting fingers? They are really handy!).
Also, for the vlogger wondering how to set mic so they can turn the camera forward and backwards, you just set it to camera mic. Yes not the exact same, but like you said, the camera mics are pretty good. Plus, if they add a directional mic like Rode, they're in the same dilemma.
Both the GoPro kit, and your kit are fine. For me, just give me the camera and the Volta. For one thing, I don’t have to keep changing out the batteries, which is ideal while at the beach or doing a lengthy time lapse. Don’t really need an extra mic. Either way is great depending on one’s needs. Love your videos, Dave. Keep ‘em coming. 😊

Question: If I plug the MediaMod and a Rode Micrphone, Will I have to choose whithin the media mod mic or the rode? Or will the rode be functioning automatically?

I only bought the creator addition because the extra battery sounded nice with out having to have more batteries... But your set up looks sweet too as a Pro creator I would think one would have many set ups though in there bag just to be able to have the Manningkit and the GoPro creator kit and the MalinaKit just being able to have different set ups to get different shots! you brought many ideas to my attention like if I'm sitting at a restaurant just take the battery out and let it film so it wont over heat and or when I'm walking around a new town just to be able to have more battery to put in the GoPro battery back in to film plus the wind and all would help that as well. Wow! So many great ideas. I'm going...idk...both lol. Each one has its own pro and cons. The Volta does not bend like the 3Way 2.0. and it's nice having the batteries right there. I did like the setup you did with the external battery!! I might do that! And stay no beard or just a few days scruff. Btw great video!
I have the GoPro hero 9. I ended up buying an after market light and use the media mod. I just recently added the Røde wireless go ll. But I Metal detect in the woods a lot where it has some dark spots so the light helps a lot.

Hey David. I was wondering if you could give me some recommendations. I have both GP8 and the 360 GP. I have a lawn care business and I’d like to record while on my mower. Some 360 video above my head. What are some accessories I could use so I can get some nice footage while also being hands free since I need my hands to control my mower? actually, the one and only problem with "your" kit is, that if I wanna switch batteries, i need to take the whole setup apart in order to get to the battery doors. Huge advantage of the creator kit is, that I can just plug the cable and charge whole setup together.
Buy a battery pack and you're good to go

Great comparison , don’t think I will be getting the new creator mount as I normally attach a powerbank for Timelapse etc …. I just wish GoPro would gives us the option for the mic to work work back and front at the same time on the media mod
can you connect the 2 way of 3 way bracket to volta and use type-c extension for the connection? so that you have volta+2 way combine?

I had an issue with GoPro where I was a subscriber for a year+ and when I bought the Hero10 Black in a kit, they only sent me the camera…when I called and said basically what you did about subscriber benefits, I was more or less wink wink, told to create a new subscription and email every year.
GoPro can use that new subscriber number and show it to their shareholders, that’s what they care about. Their product these days is the stock, not the cameras.
Hi David I do like your set up but as a new user I then have 3 batteries and I could only charge up one at a time. Where with their set up like you say one usb charges it all up.
Can the rode mic and Volta work together or is it one or the other?

Anyone know of any non-Volta grips that have the same secondary gopro “feet” that pop out of the side of the Volta? I would love to be able to stick a Snap mount onto that secondary mount so i can have a handle on my gopro but also be able to chest mount my gopro.
we have to film at night a lot of times just because of the nature of our content. I just carry one of those harbor fright stick lights with me because you need A LOT OF LIGHT to film with a go pro and that little go pro one isn't going to cut it
How much weight for the gopro + volta + media mod + light mod? ... i cant find any precise info on the internet.
My point is if the setup weighs over a7c body, i dont think its a great idea to carry it around.
I would do the 3 option. Volta, no mod and add the for adapter to plug and keep closed the GoPro

Dude, we're not talking about the nighttime, but about a good lighting in the daytime indoors and outdoors. In my country it's very often quite dark because it's cloudy most of the time, so you have to even switch on the lights during the day. Does this "creator" mod help with that?

I would spent the whopping 17 bucks and get the gopro set up for the simple fact, the volta is more convenient than swapping in 3 batteries. The price diff would have to be more substantial for me to consider having to take the camera out of a media mod everytime a battery needs a swap. plus, the volta can charge other things like my phone, spare batteries cannot
I like both but the price is killing me. I want to make "How to Videos" so a small camera is good for getting in tight spaces. But now with everything I need to buy for a GoPro setup, I can get a Camera that has a jack for the Rhode for a Mic and many other possibilities for a few more dollars. I know it's not water proof but I can wait for a sunny day. Any suggestions for non GoPro Camera that does Video half way decent?
The problem with "your" kit, is the battery swap... If on the fly, it is very inconvenient to basically undress the camera system every time you run low on power. I wish the "creator" kit would have an arm extension for better wide shots. But that being said... a tripod swap out is STILL far easier than swapping out the battery.... BTW, AWESOME "overheating" tip. That solves a big problem for extended time-lapse shots. Nice.
i don't understand why.... i have a quite brand new gopro hero 10 black and i have issues connecting to the quick app to acces the footage on it... my phone doesn't see the wifi of the gopro... if anyone has any idea whould be awesome.

So I already own the 10 and 9.. looks like I'll probably just be getting the Volta by itself for our upcoming Disneyland and universal trip.. hell I might even just get two of them one for each camera.. this way when I hand off one of the cameras to one of my kids I don't have to worry about battery drainage and then having to swap them out they can just run on the Volta.
Both are less than ideal. The best would be to get a tripod/selfie stick that's not made by Go Pro, since you could find something similar but cheaper out there. Yes, even with integrated power banks. You could probably even build one with a 3 axis gimbal for not much more.

Too correct the leveling problem just get a small ball head mount and put it on the Volta and mount the GoPro. Most of us probably have one.

I am MOST definitely a RODE mic guy but in the case of needing a mic for flipping back and forth filming. I suggest the Diety D4 Duo, it will solve the problem. BTW: I have spoken with RODE about creating a mic for this purpose!
The D4 is rad.
Since I use the Telesin batteries, the Hero9 gets less hot and can also use it longer, for the same price as the original GoPro battery.

A few videos ago you mentioned that Epidemic Sound was offering a free subscription (not the 30 day trial) but it was rolling out over time. Is that still a thing?
I took it to Disney twice last week and i enjoyed it. Used the polorpro clip to attach to my backpack. I like not having to remove the media mod to replace the battery. Still a massive pain when the GO Pro freezes and I have to remove the battery to reset though lol. I dont know why GoPro didnt put feet clamps on the bottom of the media mod itself.
Try holding the shutter and mode button for 8 seconds to do a reset.

I just got the Volta, I love it. The only problem I had was it over heated while filming in 4K 60 fps. I have the GoPro mod. The outside temp was around 80° f. Any idea of what I need to do?

I use a rode microphone for about 5 month's and i love it. With the mic you geat a dead cat. Thic microphone is raally good choice for the price that it cost

Cool idea with your own setup "edition", I would go with your setup! I really like that mount, and also the feeling of knowing how many batteries you have used and how many you have left is somewhat comforting. Is the Volta heavy? compared with the David Manning-kit where you don't have to carry the spare batteries in your hand the entire day, you can put them in your pocket or in a bag until needed...
I'm still waiting for GoPro (or third party) to combine the volta with the three way.

Do you have a solution for the issue with the media mod, where you have to take off the mount to change the battery? I wish someone wiuld have a mount for the cold shoe to attach to a tripod. Like a l bracket. Having to in mount the gopro from the tripod then having to remove it from the media mod is so annoying!

So does the volta charge the battery and the GoPro is powered or does the volta just simultaneously power the battery?
Eg: incase i am using volta for a half-day and if i am planning to get into the water with just the GoPro, will the battery be full when i remove volta?
Yep, the Volta battery is being used first and then it pulls from the internal. So when you pull your GoPro off, it will be almost completely full👍

There should a firmware update for the 9 and 10 so the remote controls the gopro using the wire even if the media mod is attached. Probably save some battery life since you wouldn't be using Bluetooth.

Yeah, unfortunately the GoPro still needs an audio adapter. We used to have the dongle so we could plug a 3.5mm mic cable into the GoPro, but now the best option is the MediaMod. So the MediaMod acts as the adapter and cold shoe 👍

I had the David Manning Creator Kit for 5 years already, but I have to ask - is Rode Video Micro still the best choice out there? First of all, it's a directional mic, and that's not useful as a vlogger when you're turning the camera around from your face to what you're seeing. I could barely be heard when pointing the mic forwards. I know Rode has the Wireless Go which is nifty but has a lot of small parts that could get easily lost. What recommendations are there for a small bi-directional or omni mic that's as good as the Rode Video Micro, that will just plug right into the side of the GoPro 10? It's baffling that GoPro hasn't made something so simple. The one on the Media Mod seems to be very average.

Mix both. Put the rode on the GoPro setup.

@@DavidManningvlog Yes even though. Took it with me on a 11 day Maui trip (actually had it delivered their) and I have NEVER used my GoPro as much as I did with the Volta. Wife even said finally am recording more than 30 sec. at a time 😂

Yes no problem, perhaps I dont do long clips or becasue Im in the uk and its cold but I have never had the Hero10 over heat and I shoot 5.3k/25 most of the time.
Yeah I was at wonder con and had the Go Pro 10 clipped to my backpack and it filmed until the batteries died with no overheating. I also have the ulanzi 10000pmh battery grip and it was fine on that as well when using 4k or 5.3k and 30fps or less.
