Hey Guys, there are a LOT of scam accounts replying to comments on all my videos right now! Please don't be fooled by them or send them money! this is my only account and it's verified for a reason :)
Chris! We’re honored to hold the title of action camera king + we promise, we don’t take it lightly 👑Thank you for such an in-depth, real-world look into the features of HERO12 Black. Appreciate you sharing your secrets, although we cannot condone burning your hydrophobic lens off 😅 So we’ll share a secret, too. You get the same tall vertical FOV + quality when shooting in horizontal or vertical orientation while using in 9:16 with Max Lens Mod 2.0. We’re stoked to see all that you create 🙌
LOL...never thought you would release your Hack#2!!!! Was a bit disappointed to hear that Max Lens Mod 1 is not compatible with the 12 but I see now the reasoning, increased FPS and FOV...you never mentioned the lack of GPS....TBH I only used the data a few times and it was always a bit of a las to sequence things and had to use Garmin's software to make it a bit easier...but I do predict a hardware upgrade to The Remote like DJI have done, so overlay lovers will still get there GPS data from there. Anyway, I'm was on the fence with 11 to 12 upgrade ....looks like I may be falling off and onto my credit card now! Get some!
Love your review! If you like GoPro...buy it! If you like DJI...buy it! People these days are just moaning about what they don't get. Keep up the good work!
First time watching this channel. What you say about review channel versus your channel regarding the performance/use of the GoPro is spot on. Good on you for pointing this out. Review channels on off-road motorcycles and mountain bikes, is the same. I only watch those that use the products, take them to task for what they do and have the use knowledge AND are not sponsored.
14:28 I usually have my GoPro in a waterproof case with the door off so I can flick the battery in and out when I'm diving to reset the freeze. I'll try out the main button like you mentioned! Seems like a great idea
@@GordosLyfelook into getting a GDome for clearer underwater shots and also a red dive filter to help colour correct when you dive deeper than 10meters(33 feet).
Hey Jake! Yeah can confirm holding in the side button for 10seconds and letting go will work! Have had to do it a few times in the past even on older GoPros like the HERO7 I think 😅
Apart from the SICK and KILLER shots you make, what always inspires me when I watch your videos is that you are one of the few who explores the GoPro cameras beyond the typical action-camera usage... you show me that it is possible to be creative with GoPros for anything else.
Yeah I agree man, I have never heard of this guy before but the flow of this video was a nice change of pace from the usual copy and paste formula many other youtube "influencers" put out there where everything is click bait between the stupid thumbnails and the giant obnoxious fonts to the title of the video.
So, I PRE-ORDERED this GoPro HERO 12 BLACK (This is my first GoPro...) Thank YOU so much for taking the time to offer your honest opiionion & review...
@ChrisRogers Wow what a wicked video and honest opinions - you have got yourself a new subscriber I have one question though (and I'm not tech savvy when it comes to editing) If I film in the widest FOV which will have a fosheye look in the video, can I remove the fisheye look and still maintain a wider FOV than Linear mode? The reason I ask is because I hate the fisheye look and only shoot in Linear but I want a wider FOV where there are no curves or distortion If it is possible to shoot a much wider FOV and correct it in an editing program, what editing program would you recommend to get the results I would like ? Sorry to be a pain 😔
@@brianmagicman3556 hey Brian! Great question! The answer is yes! GoPro make an incredible plug-in for Premiere Pro called reframe which was made for their 360 footage but can also be used on regular GoPro footage. If you look at my vlog scenes you can see they are very wide but don’t have much of the fisheye look because I have removed it with the reframe plugin! There are a bunch of other softwares and apps that can remove the fisheye as well but I would think the GoPro reframe one works best and has the most flexibility. Abe Kislevitz has an incredible tutorial about all of this on his TH-cam channel. Hope that all helps 😊🙌
@ChrisRogers Thank you for your reply and time in answering my question So just to confirm, if I was to shoot in max hyperview using the max lens mod 2 on my GoPro 12 and removed the distortion using the reframe plug-in, my finished video would look straighter and still be a lot wider than a normal linear video ??
@@brianmagicman3556 hey Brian. Not quite, you would actually shoot in 4k 4:3 max superview (not hyperview) Basically “hyperview” is the 8:7 mode stretched in camera to the 16:9. So now what happens is you film in either 4:3 or 8:7 and then use the reframe plugin on premiere to dynamically stretch the footage to 16:9 and remove the “fisheye look” Either way filming in or 4:3 with max lens mod and then stretching yourself in post production will 100% be a wider shot than just linear. Definitely go Watch Abe Kislevitz tutorial on this. It’s amazing 👌 All that being said stretching footage yourself in post production is obviously more time consuming and harder on one’s computer haha
one of the best hero 12 reviews yet, thanks Chris. one thing I don't understand about this new model...how did gopro manage to make the Bluetooth audio sound so bad?! I'd say your comment of it being Average is generous. I mean, if you do a side-by-side comparison of audio recorded on an iPhone using Airpods and what gopro gives you, the difference is night and day. Somehow they make a $300 pair of ear buds sound like a mic bought from the dollar store. I'm hoping they improve that later...
It would appear that hating on GoPro or actually ANY action camera works as great clickbait on TH-cam for views these days! I might even do it on my next video 😂😂
To be fair, GoPro has deserved its share of criticism over the years. I think they are great little cameras, but the UX has been a bug fiesta off and on since the early days.
To be honest, Action 4 has some advantages over GoPro. Its side lines are much less distorted, and it has a better image in low light. Plus, magnetic holder. GoPro, though, has a better image quality overall and better stabilization, in my opinion, based on what I saw in reviews.
@@mriatravel 100% man 👌 there’s definitely certain things each brand offers that works better for certain people depending on how they want to use their camera. I would only argue against the distortion of the cameras because that all comes down to using the right settings in certain scenarios and you can also fix/change all that in post anyway
Chris, great video, and you are correct. Reviews should come from creators who use this Go Pro! And, thank you for the tip of the burning of the lens of course at our own risk. Thanks for a great video!

Love the video. I’m a pro photographer for events and not a videographer. That said, I own a couple of Hero 10’s. Fantastic for those odd clips and awkward angles. Your video is aimed for people who genuinely use the device and many who dream of the scenario they want to use it for, but never do. You encourage these dreamers and users to just get out there and shoot footage and photos. I will definitely get one with the mod and sell one of my Hero 10’s. Thanks 🙏
My favourite review by far! You can tell that you work with gopros a lot and show the things that really matter. I dont care if and when it overheats indoors,... Thanks
GoPro 6 was a massive upgrade when it came out back in like 2017 so you will see a huge difference now! Especially with quality and hypersmooth will blow your mind cause the hero6 doesn’t even have it 😅 stoked for you🙌👏

And I loved when you called out other tech reviewers I was feeling the same too! Awesome job. I had the Hero8, now I’m gonna get this monster of a cam! Thanks!
From now on GoPro should let creators that actually do action staff review their products. My first GP was 7Black on a FPV drone, never had problems with it. Great vid Chris!
@@flyingfrogfpv that will be a huge upgrade coming from a GP6. I’m currently flying with GP11 been liking it so far. Very well explained!!! Thank you. Right now TH-cam is full of content with GoPro 12 and why you should buy DJI instead of GoPro 12. I didn't have any doubts with GoPro and most of the issues I encountered myself using Hero 11 were "normal" considering the size of the camera and its capabilities. GoPro has done an amazing job with each model and the fact that I like to create some vids with my family and have unlimited cloud storage was enough for me to choose GoPro over DJI or insta360. BTW, after watching hours of 360 footage from newer 360 camera models, I fully get why GoPro didn't release a Max 2 saying that they are happy with the results atm. The difference between GoPro Max and newer 360 models is not that big in my opinion and it's worth waiting awhile until they release another model. Bet it will be epic!
Thanks man! Yeah I can’t wait for the next 360 camera from GoPro! They just announced that it’s officially in the works so I have big expectations! Have heard a lot of people say even the last way x3 from insta is basically the same quality maybe even less than the max which is 4 years old now. Obviously the newer 360 cams are just way more user friendly for the average customer
What a review Chris!! Love those examples! Super thorough & gotta love the secret hacks! & personally, I was really skeptical about HDR too - but after using it the past months. I’m pretty much convince to shoot every use-case with HDR!!! ⚡️⚡️
Chris, Nice coverage. I think that the new built-in GoPro Timecode is worth mentioning. It's so much easier to sync multiple GoPros in post. There is a new PC software product from a 3rd party, called Multi-View HD Pro 2, that sync's up to 8 videos immediately to display and view on one or more screens which makes it good for not only entertainment but for performance reviews.
Thanks for the camera reset by holding the on and off button for 10 seconds. This will help me a lot with my GoPro 12 creator edition. as well obviously it’s going to take a long time to pull out a battery when you have a medium mode tripod on.
Amazing content Chris, I have the Hero11 but you gave me alot of insight about the Hero12, and now I just might have to purchase it just because of how cool it is LOL...
Thank you for the real action use review. I just bought a GoPro 12 Black Creator Edition, and also a GoPro 12 Black Action Bundle for the floating handle, extra battery, head strap, and hard case. The information you gave brought me up to speed fast, especially about the DJI Lapel Mic. I was researching the best wireless mic for in the boat for the best sound quality. I will be using different camera view syncronation, including my DJI Mini 3 Pro drone . I have had GoPro cams since the 4 or 6. In the l ast few years, I have only had two GoPro 7 Black cams to work with. I live in Big Pine Key, Florida and have a 23'-4" cabin cruiser for camping, fishing, scuba, etc... I used to also own a surfboard manufacturing business, (shaper, airbrush, glassing, sanding, test riding, hahaha), surfed competition for 13 years, and sponsored a surf team for nine years, eee-haw. I have subscribed to your channel so I can get new info in the future, and enjoy your video content quality. The backdrops in your videos are fantastic.
Informative and well-presented guide! This video gave me the confidence to explore the GoPro Hero 12 and unlock its full potential. Your tips and tricks were super helpful. Keep up the great work!
Chris Thank you for a great review. The one thing I am upset about is that GP removed one feature which probably helped with battery times is the ability to retrieve your GPS data. I know that a lot of people never used this feature but I did and because of this I am really contemplating the upgrade.
GoPro assumed nobody uses it because people use third party apps, but this is because GoPro does not offer a working desktop app! bad decision since the reason for its removal is baseless and brings no benefits. if the GPS was the reason for overheating, I would understand, but leave it to the customers who don't need it to disable it, like wifi, bluetooth.
Epic videos as always and really loved this review!! definitely would like to upgrade from my hero 10 ! thanks for making that decision a lot easier Chris!! keep up the good work and excited for the next video !!
I would love to see this as the top review for GoPro as really there is no one else better to give a proper review and real world use that Chris, he hit the nail on the head everyone else is just looking at specs and are reviewers they really have no formal experience and using the camera day in day out in proper film making... It shows when chris has won the GoPro world challenge there needs to be a different reviewing experience and this is exactly it..
A good point…you use the GP everyday, which says a lot! Not sure I would agree GP is the king, but certainly great…depending on your usage and priorities, which varies for everyone. Not a big fan of lots of post production work, as I prefer colours etc to be more realistic but not using it for professional work. Generally I prefer GP colours, but often not in full sun. Great rationale and advice!
One of the best GoPro reviews I have seen! Love the call out for 4k 4:3 120! They really should do that. Seems like a ploy to hide that away and use it as an "upgrade" in the future if needed
I think the engineering team just ran out of time and also the % of people who want it are not the majority of users haha but I’m still going to ask them for it every time 😂
after trying out the hero 12 before I returned it for a refund, now I use the 4:3 mode all the time on my older gopros, down to the 6 black. 8:7 is over rated. 4k is 4k regardless of the sensor of the camera. so thanks to GoPro for this.@@ChrisRogers
Such a solid review man! You are literally the first persons video I look for when a new GoPro is released. Mine comes this week and that new max lens mod is spicy! 🔥
Fantastic review. I'm in the process of developing my E-MOTION GT creation, software & solution for fully immersive Stereo 3D VR160 from a single lens array at any video resolution and the horizon lock on the GoPro HERO 12 Black is absolutely incredible. The GoPro platform is be best to develop for when the highest quality color accuracy is essential.
Brilliant review Chris! Totally agree, you are the premier authority for GoPro reviews. How does the MLM 2.0 compare to hyperview? I'd primarily be using it for POV kayaking and like having a CPL filter so trying to determine if the added FOV is worth dropping the CPL. Cheers!
Love you review! If you like GoPro... Buy it! If you like DJI.... Buy it! People these days are just moaning about went they don't get. . Keep up the good work! ❤
My hero10 was dead 4 months ago and been watching reviews which to choose, Hero 12 or Action 4. Thanks for this review!! I'm gonna go with GoPro again. 🍻
Ah dude that is a HUGE upgrade!! 😁 you’re gonna be blown away by the quality and slow motion on the newer GoPros! And even hypersmooth changed SO much from hero8 to now!
I don’t know if I’d say they’re still king. As an 11 user and happy with the 11 I am going to try the new osmo action 4. From what I’ve seen the low light is better which is important for an action camera. Not all action is done on a sunny beach or clear blue sky ski slope, try a dense PNW or Canadian forest and the stability and clarity goes. Other issue is the GoPro audio has been bad for a while now so everyone tries turning off the wind processing and using foam covers or dead cats to get better audio while somehow the osmo since the 3 has managed to cut wind while still having audio that sounds like you’re actually there. To me the smart play for GoPro would be to sell the 12 but also offer a 25 or 50 dollar firmware update option for 11 users since every feature you mentioned is just done through software. Maybe if GoPro did that I might buy the max lens 2.0 to go on my 11 so they’ll get some money but I’m not paying 399.00 for a camera and then another 100.00 for the lens when I know it’s just firmware that’s different and I couldn’t care less about Bluetooth audio for an action camera. I think GoPro sales are gonna be a bit weak for the 12.
Dude if i were you I would just save my money and NOT buy the 12 or OA4 😅 I don't think you'll see much of a difference with the OA4 in Low light judging by the reviews i've seen online. Not sure if you have a 360 Camera but they are really fun! The GoPro MAX has been around for 4years but sounds like they are working on a new version coming out next year according to what the CEO said in a recent interview. or Even get a drone if you don't have a drone.
@@ChrisRogers I don’t know I’ve seen some low light comparisons and it’s noticeable and then for audio check this one out, the osmo 3 sounds like you’re actually riding whereas the 11’s have the typical GoPro muffle. The osmo 4 now basically matches the GoPro in video and surpasses the audio. GoPro might be more versatile with the 27mp camera etc but that’s not an “action camera” to me. th-cam.com/video/MwEibEHkDJ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=k9BkG-324LNEl_ki
I'm still using Hero 3+ Black lol. I don't actually use it often though. I use my S21 FE for most recording. The newer GoPros are pretty awesome, I may have to get a 12 or 13.

Amazing review!
Would love to see a video about the settings you use!
I just bought one thanks for the review 😍
Thanks for the camera reset by holding the on and off button for 10 seconds. This will help me a lot with my GoPro 12 creator edition. as well obviously it’s going to take a long time to pull out a battery when you have a medium mode tripod on.
Great review Chris, might finally be time for me to upgrade (still using the 7 🙈). Also love the @sickos tee 🔥
Thanks Chris inspirational as always ❤
Always appreciate a Chris Rogers review!! great insights legend :) Bali looks so good on you
Amazing content Chris, I have the Hero11 but you gave me alot of insight about the Hero12, and now I just might have to purchase it just because of how cool it is LOL...
One small suggestion, whenever u shoot something can u put the settings below the video for a 2 second, so that we’ll learn on the way they’re shot.
Such a sick video dude, you nailed it! Was awesome to catch up on this EPIC trip! Keen for another soon 🙌🏼
The best review out there! Awesome! 👏🏻🤙
Awesome and informative as usual Maestro Chris🎉🎉🎉
Been waiting for your POV, makes sense 🔥 sssssend ittt!
Great review Chris! 👏🙌
Ok … I’m getting the Gopro 12 ! Thanks for the vid
Nice review. Thank you! I use my gopro mostly for underwater
Great video Chris! Can see the effort you put into this video!
Great review, super detailed, much appreciated🙏
Thanks for this video ❤
After 2 minutes of video i realize that im on a right place. Respect and subscribe!
Great rationale and advice!
a great real-world look !! thanks!
One of the best GoPro reviews I have seen! Love the call out for 4k 4:3 120! They really should do that. Seems like a ploy to hide that away and use it as an "upgrade" in the future if needed
I think the engineering team just ran out of time and also the % of people who want it are not the majority of users haha but I’m still going to ask them for it every time 😂
@@ChrisRogers true true!
after trying out the hero 12 before I returned it for a refund, now I use the 4:3 mode all the time on my older gopros, down to the 6 black. 8:7 is over rated. 4k is 4k regardless of the sensor of the camera. so thanks to GoPro for this.@@ChrisRogers
A great video !!! Chris you’re the boss 🙌🏻🤗
Hey you should do a video on all your GoPro lenses you use, accessories ! Am about to get a hero 12 and wanna see what lenses there are to use!
Such a solid review man! You are literally the first persons video I look for when a new GoPro is released. Mine comes this week and that new max lens mod is spicy! 🔥
Max Lens Mod 2.0 is nice but not worth the missing GPS
Bro, con que cámara grabas habitualmente? Me gusta la calidad de tu cámara
Cheers!
I didnt even need to watch the tech review channels to help me make my choice. This was a great video and I appreciate your opinion. Cheers
Great fact driven review.
Thank you ... and the custom race car world appreciates you as well!
This one is amazing video really need the video on GoPro Hero 23 😅😅😅😅😅
Love you review! If you like GoPro... Buy it! If you like DJI.... Buy it! People these days are just moaning about went they don't get. . Keep up the good work! ❤
Lot's of Love Chris . I was concerned about the HDR feature
My hero10 was dead 4 months ago and been watching reviews which to choose, Hero 12 or Action 4.
Thanks for this review!! I'm gonna go with GoPro again. 🍻
What equipment and mic are using to record this review please.
Thanks Chris! That review helped me decide on upgrading. Have the GoPro 8 and an Insta360 X2 lying around. So it was high time I pulled the trigger 😄
Ah dude that is a HUGE upgrade!! 😁 you’re gonna be blown away by the quality and slow motion on the newer GoPros! And even hypersmooth changed SO much from hero8 to now!
@@ChrisRogers Then I better get that pre-order in ASAP 😂
Thanks again Bro, keep the videos coming 😎

I'm still using Hero 3+ Black lol. I don't actually use it often though. I use my S21 FE for most recording. The newer GoPros are pretty awesome, I may have to get a 12 or 13.
Great review, thank you!!!
Great review Chris!
Looks like your living the life brother god bless
Thank you for that great userexperience-orientated review!
What camera did you use to record this video?
Always amazing Proudly South African
Yes bru 🙌🇿🇦
Con que cámara grabaste la intro? Me gusto la calidad
How do you mount for your POV shots? They look incredible every time
Thank you for this review :)
I'm using a GoPro8 for my hiking channel.
Do you think I should upgrade to GoPro12 or DJI Action 4?
What camera were you using in this video??
0:38 that low light shot looks insanely good!
And also, is this 0:37 GoPro footage? thats some quite wild bokeh :o
Low light filming is all about knowing what settings to use😅 and yes that bokeh is intact with a GoPro and Macro filter on!😁
The bad thing about gopro seems to be the compression once uploaded to youtube. Always a bit pixelated on youtube but the actual video file is clear
