The turntable is a main instrument on their album SCIENCE. That's easily my favorite album by them. I've enjoyed them ok afterward but SCIENCE is a monster.

Redefine would be a good song for you guys to react to. You would get to see the heavier more
experimental side of Incubus… really any song off of SCIENCE would do the trick

I think you guys would appreciate SCIENCE and Fungus Amongus. Definitely a lot heavier with jazz, funk, hip hop, and metal influences. Brandon basically was a melodic rapper in the beginning lol. Incubus is truly making genre-less music 🙌🏿

Incubus had 3 albums before Morning View - the first 2 were moderately successful and had a bit of an underground following with the 2nd album having a couple of hits. Their style/sound changed quite a bit between the 2nd and 3rd album too (they were slightly more ska/punk/nu-metal imo on the first 2 albums - think early RHCP, big inspiration for Incubus). The 3rd album really catapulted them though with songs like 'Drive' and 'Pardon Me' and Morning View continued, if not elevated them even more. So many good songs on that album.

Incubus is one of my favorite bands of all time! This album was one of my most played during my childhood. Morning View and Make Yourself and perfect, no skips type of albums. Their newer stuff isn’t as exciting, but they haven’t put out a single bad project. even their older, more experimental type stuff is still a fun listen. Incubus really knows how to create a vibe with their music. they’re very rhythmic in their approach with the guitar and bass laying down the framework, and Brandon Boyd providing that awesome melodic touch with his incredible voice. and the way the guitarist Mike breaks away from the rhythm and incorporates those melodic runs makes him a very unique and underrated player. And DJ Killmore is instrumental in their sound, he helps create the atmosphere with his sampling and scratching. Incubus really knows how to make catchy, emotional, vibey music. and they are very well respected in the history of alternative rock.
Songs y’all need to check out: “Nowhere Fast”, “When It Comes”, “Make Yourself”, “Nice To Know You”, “Have You Ever”, “Sick Sad Little World”, “Talk Shows On Mute”…I could go on forever

I imagine everyone in the comments has already mentioned this, but Incubus is incredibly diverse. This album was their first one that heavily leaned into a more melodic and "pop" sound, but still having an edge. They started as a more heavy, funk rock type band then started experimenting with different sounds. A Crow Left of the Murder is where they started developing their modern sound which is a bit more progressive and having jazz elements. If Not Now, When is in my opinion their weakest album, while still having some of my favorite songs of theirs. I'm a huge Incubus fan so I'm terribly biased lol but even their "bad" material is good.

They're a consistent band of artists. Kinda like a Slayer, Rancid or DMX. Nothing they put out is bad. Maybe not as up to par with their other work, but not bad. They don't have a hard fall off period like a Metallica, Kanye or Green Day.

This is one of their many great "commercial" hits, but by far my favorite Incubus album is S.C.I.E.N.C.E, every song is a banger but my favorites are "A Certain Shade of Green" "Nebula" "Deep Inside". Please check one of these songs out!

The turntable doesn't sound bad, it's just the thing that dates it the most. You laugh first purely because you remember the era and then a second later you realize it kind of rules and that era actually had its charms

I'll add to the chorus asking for "Drive."
And now, it's time to stretch. Time for 311. "Down," "Come Original," "Beautiful Disaster" just for starters. Reggae meets metal meets funk meets philosophy. Then, once you've heard their take on it, go to Skindred. Metal meets Reggae and has angry sex.

I think Make Yourself was Incubus' first real mainstream success, as far as albums go. They got to make music for Halo2, and Mike Einziger, the guitarist, helped write Wake me Up by Avicii, which was hugely popular. They've been consistently successful and each do a lot of stuff outside the band, which I think has contributed a lot to their stability as a band, and not having internal disagreements that eventually fracture the group.
I think that Incubus is easily one of the most underrated bands, and all around, their music is some of the best. I don't think there's anywhere that their music is consistently weak.

I was into Incubus when this album came out and I remember not really being a fan of this song but in retrospect I think it's actually pretty good. It's a bit formulaic and of its time like you guys said but these guys definitely knew how to set a mood or vibe that was fairly unique to them.
As for song recommendations, as other people have mentioned Sick Sad Little World is a good one. Circles too. I'm a huge fan of their first two albums which the band have more or less disowned. Favourite Things and Vitamin are both great songs from that era. Also if you want a song that spotlights the turntables check out Battlestar Scratchlactica.

So their breakout album you could say is Make Yourself, as that had their biggest hit to date on it, titled Drive. It was their second studio album, being released two years after S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Incubus did have an album prior to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. called Fungus Among Us, but for some reason that’s not counted among their studio albums. Make Yourself also had Pardon Me and Stellar, and all these hits were way more radio-friendly than anything we’d seen from Incubus before. So it’s gotta be Make Yourself for the band’s “breakout” album. Peace.

Their breakout was Make Yourself, with the first single "pardon me", followed up with their much more widely known "drive". Personally the best songs on that album were "Make Yourself" and "Pardon Me" but only because they have that late 90s angst vibe.

There was a time in my life when I would not have given Incubus a chance, for exactly the reason Ryan touched on. I had this immature elitism, specifically with music, that kept me in my head, analyzing how complex/virtuosic the music was, rather than just "do I like it?"
I am glad that I was late to hearing anything from Incubus. I hadn't heard anything from them up until 2013 (which seems crazy to me) when a co-worker turned me on to them. I love Incubus. I love the melodic hooks they write. I love the rhythmic accents. I love the creative elements they throw in. It's not full of complex polyrhythms or unexpected key changes, but dayumn it's beautiful.
Glad you guys did this. Keep digging. As much as I like this song, it isn't even top 10 from this group for me. Here are some more of my favorite songs they've done.
