These guys must have watched a lot of manufactured pop/R&B stars. Sure, there is an important place for full range vocal stars, but a lot of us want the original artists that do their own song writing and lyrics. They seem to kind of miss the point at times of being a personal experience over a public performance.

@@JoeVideoed Hi, Joseph, Oh yeah, it's clear to me they did! I kind of meant their take on the genre was cool at the time and refreshing to me. I can't really explain it!
Yes, it was like they took a listen to the grunge scene and decided it needed a dash of vintage surf music and to take itself less seriously, and they created magic.
I love the style where they even recorded the feedback from the guitar amps here and there. it makes it feel more powerful. they are a great band to see in an arena ^_^
Gotta say, that Dear Daddy bridge still gives me chills after nearly thirty years. This is about living in fear of becoming like his alcoholic stepfather, despite the lure of booze to numb his pain.
One of the best 90s' alternative songs that shows the real 90's 'slacker' culture. When I bought this CD in 1995, I was so hooked- as their music fit so well with the atmosphere at the time (it is so (really) different from when I listen to this in 2023).
The “garage” sound of these bands was a feature, not a bug… it stems from the punk, diy aspects of ‘alternative’ music at the time, they purposely didn’t want to sound overproduced or over polished. Most iconic rock bands don’t have virtuoso singers, the Stones, Bowie, Rush, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Chilli Peppers, Roger Waters from Pink Floyd, etc… it’s really more about ‘the feel’ of the song vs perfect technique.
Not everyone is trying to sing like Dimash. Just cause it’s not the most “beautiful” by certain world metrics doesn’t mean someone “can’t sing”. I’d rather hear rough vocals with feeling and meaning than empty perfect pitches any day!
Hey guys, I love what yall do and I've been a subscriber for a couple or few years now, kudos. They actually can sing it’s just a deliberate style. The more you listen to stuff like this the more it clicks. Alternative is very experimental vocally
This song is about his alcoholic father and step-father. The line "This bottle of Steven's awakens ancient feelings" references him seeing his step dads beer bottles.
I was thinking about this yesterday. I think since the US has had 20 years of The Voice & American Idol, people have been a lot more focused on the voice, not the message. Auto tune does the same thing. People don’t know what to do when they hear emotion in a vocal cause it doesn’t sound ‘perfect.’
Guys, do more of this band. They have several albums with differing outlooks but a common sound. Great songwriting. Only Rivers could front this band. Doesn't matter if you like his singing.
I don’t know how to describe it but I like vocals that sound like they aren’t trying or aren’t good but somehow still sound good. There’s a coolness to it like messy hair that somehow comes together.

Rivers can sing just fine. He does well live too. He’s not Adele but he’s perfect for their sound and a great songwriter. One of my favorite bands still making hits.
Rivers can sing. The weird, quirky singing in the background of the first verse is Matt Sharp, the bassist for the first two albums. He really added to Weezer's early sound.
Rivers has a great sounding voice. He was just a baby at this point and they had a lot to express. In fact he always has a lot to express. So many albums, so many songs, so many styles. Still rocking in 2023. You’ve heard many of their songs, you just don’t know it.
Lately I've been obsessed with this song. It's absolute pop-alt-indie rock perfection, every hook, every guitar lick and riff is on point. And that blue dissonant note in the main arpeggio...Chef's kiss
i LOVE how it was giggles and friendly-hate on the vocals at the start, and then they got sucked right into the WEEZER vibe when they started rocking out.
The Deftones played this song as a cover and Chino said "I love that band, but they wouldn't come on tour with us.". Lol. He sings it with some heavier tones in the chorus and I love it as a cover they did. The original is amazing to me as well. As a whole it works, it's an overall sound they put together for sure that works.
The Blue Album is one of the few Albums I listen to all the way through consistently. Say it ain't so is probably one of my top 5 songs ever, glad you guys dug it!

I can never listen to Weezer’s “Island in the Sun” again since a loved one of mine passed away, but I do recommend it to everyone. It’s just beautiful.
Say it ain't so is the same for me. When my wife and I were dating, she would occasionally put me on hold to go deal with my step daughter. Her phone service allowed her to set a song for the hold music, and she chose that. I lost her 4 years ago, and I haven't been able to listen to the song without tearing up since.
