My incubus story. In 1997, I was a "new to the industry" stagehand, and one of my first concerts I worked was 311 with Sugar Ray and this no name band Incubus. Incubus was in a conversion van and a uhaul trailer. I helped set up their drums after soundcheck. Cool show. A couple of years later at Ozzfest 98, I see they're on the small stage, so me and my friends go see them (system of a down was on the small stage too ...lol). The drum tech recognized me, and we got to hang out on the side of the stage. Then a few years later......they're on top of the world, and they headlined my home arena I first saw them open in 4-5 years before. I bought tickets to that show....and was so happy to see the progression of this band, full circle. This past year at Welcome to Rockville festival, I got to see them play again, in front of 20+k people, and it was almost a spiritual thing. Just thought I'd share.....there's no point to my story. Hahaha...... wait.. yeah there is ...they're great guys that make awesome music.
When I listen to that album, every song has the ability to place me in the house on morning view with them, even so far as translating the varying moods and emotions being touched upon throughout their time there. So easily relatable it's almost transcendent
This album was released a few months after my sister passed. This song was an important part of the grieving process for my brother and I. It's just about those magical and simple moments in time where you wish that person was there to experience it with you. So glad to see Incubus make the review list!
@@travisinthetrunk Same. That one reminds us of my dad, too. I consider myself fortunate to have had parents who always had great music on during my childhood. Every memory I have has it's own soundtrack. I'm a Gen Xer, and music was our version of SM. Still is in a lot of ways.
@@veloraloves Sorry to heR about your brother. I have two. And I can't imagine. Well, with the younger one I actually have. He's been in a lot of trouble over the years. My parents hated my music. To me, this is one of the most positive songs I have heard. Never related it to someone that was lost. I always found it coming to me, when I was centered, aware and happy. Wishing someone important was there with me to share it. The images he paints with the lyrics, are exactly like the seemingly trivial moments when you can just breathe in life and find the intrinsic beauty of the world you live in.
"The song wasn't specifically about a person. It was about me acknowledging a very brief moment in my life and in my experience with all of these guys in making this record. In that moment, I wish that I had somebody to go, 'I love you, man.' I was wishing that there was someone there to share that moment with."
Really??? I dont remember it like that. I guess because everyone I knew was so into Incubus, but they have over 23 mill albums sold. Their run in the spotlight was short, but I never thought of them as a "spotlight band" just and great f'ing band and was music their main gig per se??? They were all so multi-talented. Early 2000s brother. I'm an Aussie and listened to this Album on repeat on a road trip along the Great Ocean Road in my newly bought convertible. Good days. Great days.
They recorded 'Morning View' (the album that this song is from) in a gorgeous beachside mansion. Some of the footage is from their time recording. Please react to 'Aqueous Transmission', the end of that song is just the sound of frogs who lived near the mansion. It's very chilled out and sweet. I LOVE this band so much! Also 'A Certain Shade of Green', 'Redefine' or 'Vitamin' from the album Science are amazing and very different, there's more experimental jazz in those songs. And the lyrics on that album are more existential. They were teenagers and all had dreadlocks during the 'Science 'era'. :D
I've been binge-watching your videos for three days straight, my friend. I love how open-minded you are!!! I would HIGHLY request more Incubus. There's so much soul in the lyrics and spunk in the sound. "Switchblade" is one of my favorites, as is "In the Company of Wolves", "Southern Girl", "Mexico", "Are You In?", "Aqueous Transmission" and "Anti-Gravity" to name a few!! They release banger after banger. It's so hard to narrow it down! Lol.
This reminds me of driving up to Sedona and to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in October 1998. I had just discovered Incubus earlier that year and this album was on repeat most of the way. Great memories.

This song makes me think about my brother, he passed away 10 years ago. It's hard to think about living this long with him no longer here. He didn't get to see his son grow up, to see him graduate. I wish he was still here but we don't always get that in which we wish for.

He’s wishing that someone (not sure who) would be there to see him at the height of his success experiencing it with him. I can’t stop watching your channel, you’re reacting to all the music I love ❤️❤️❤️ This is one of my favorite songs from incubus.
The way you mentioned grunge throughout this reaction made something click for me. The beginning of the 90s is associated with grunge, and the world-wide exposure to the "big 4" (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, AIC). By the end of the 90s, grunge was considered dead, Kurt was actually dead, and Layne would be dead soon (2002). When I hear this Incubus song (released in 2001) now, it reminds me of these artists lost in the 90s that I truly wish were still here, as well as so many others we've lost since then. I didn't have that perspective in 2001, but in 2020, it's there.
Wow that is the best persective to describe the lyrics of this song I've ever heard in my life. I can so relate to those feelings exactly and not even realizing it myself.
I think it's just painting a blissful moment that you wish you could share with another person, but it can just as well be interpreted to be about a lost loved one. The archival footage is just them recording the album where the song is from. I recommend "Sick sad little world" from them.
I connect so much to this song being a military spouse. Especially when our daughter would learn something new, a holiday or just a good day in general. It would be that much better if he was there to experience it with us.
I miss the 90' music lol that explains your smile😂that scratching is a part of them. You can always tell when their songs come one. Pardon me and Drive, Stellar are awesome
Nice! Look up their AT&T wireless acoustic session from 2000. All the songs are amazing. It is mind blowing how good the whole set was. Hope to see reactions to some of the songs. Keep 'em coming. Merry Christmas 🎄
Incubus got really famous in 1999. They're definitely a 2000s band, but they formed in 1993. They were classified as heavy metal, as their earlier sound was much more raw and heavy. Brandon used to scream in some of their more experimental stuff early on but once he learned how to sing well it was on
Ill never forget being SOOO crazy about make yourself and so excited for what was next, summer 2003 k rock played this for the first time and my mind was blown. I was pissed I didnt tape it tho. We didnt have youtube than! ;)
This band, but this song in particular really gets me down/in my head but in a good way, especially the intro just makes me reflect even the lyrical content, I think we could all sing this to one person and truly mean it. For me it would be my childhood best friend, grew up across the street spent at least part of everyday over there, so many memories. Though he is not lost to this Earth, he is to me, haven't talked to him in at least 5 years think about it a lot but I can also accept that we may never speak again, just not quite ready to give up. Wish I knew if he still thinks about me (no homo).
I stmbled on you by mistake but I subbed! You get so involved in the songs and it's refreshing. You seem to forget that what you're doing is for others watching. And thanks for that, very entertaining!
70’s for me. 90’s for you. That’s the beauty of music. My “kids” got me into Incubus 10 years ago. My son, daughter, and I went to a couple of their shows. Those were beautiful days.
@@planreview - It goes both ways. My parents, especially my father, loved '70s rock music and listened to it constantly along with some late '60s stuff. I still listen to '70s music along with my '90s coming-of-age stuff. All good in their own ways.

This is Alternate music in a nut shell! And this was a number 1 hit for them. Im not sure either what the true meaning for them but it could be what you want it too be..
They had to alter the bridge scene of this video because it released not long after 9/11 and the label thought showing the band jumping off a bridge would be insensitive to the attack victims & their families. Since they’re a very open minded group, they obliged without any trouble
No, he's this song was written in a happy moment. He was happy, just as he stated in the song. The lead singer's own words: "The song wasn't specifically about a person. It was about me acknowledging a very brief moment in my life and in my experience with all of these guys in making this record. In that moment, I wish that I had somebody to go, 'I love you, man.' I was wishing that there was someone there to share that moment with." And this was released in 2001.
The footage was filmed while they were recording the album. They rented a mansion on the California coast and spent months on end just living and recording there. This video is actually a quickly thrown together 2nd version that was released after 9/11 because the first version showed people jumping off a bridge or something and the label wasn't OK with that after people were jumping out of the towers.

Privilege
Nowhere Fast
Blood On The Ground
Clean
Redefine
Circles
They had to alter the bridge scene of this video because it released not long after 9/11 and the label thought showing the band jumping off a bridge would be insensitive to the attack victims & their families. Since they’re a very open minded group, they obliged without any trouble
This song is actually about the lead singer wishing the perfect wave to surf was there in those moments on the shore
Luv Incubus. 311 is another great band! 👍
first time I heard of Incubus was through a game called Motocross Madness. "New Skin" was the intro song and I bought the album one week later.
the Singer , brandon boyd , is actually heavily inspired by Mike Patton from Faith No More/Mr Bungle ... other great bands to react to btw :)
Incubus-Steller That is my absolute favorite!!❤️🤘🏻
No, he's this song was written in a happy moment. He was happy, just as he stated in the song. The lead singer's own words: "The song wasn't specifically about a person. It was about me acknowledging a very brief moment in my life and in my experience with all of these guys in making this record. In that moment, I wish that I had somebody to go, 'I love you, man.' I was wishing that there was someone there to share that moment with." And this was released in 2001.
Great group, great song, great sound!
You're the best, man. Thanks for the reaction
This is a good one. Brandon Boyd's voice is unique. This song was on a loop of songs playing at my late husband's funeral.
I have a specific memory of listening to this song in my high school friend’s car at dawn after a long night, coming down from mushrooms
But they were early 2000s. They are still a great band, they’ve had multiple amazing bass players come and go throughout the years.
They only had 2 bass players.
P.O.D.
They've had 2 lol
Formed in the 90s, gained most exposure in the early 2000s
Light Grenades should be on your Incubus list also 😃
You're spot on about the 90's vibe. I sure miss it.
Have always loved these lyrics.
My only song when I travel to beautiful places
Blind Melon - Holy Man, Tones of Home, Change, No Rain, Mouthful of Cavities
It reminds me my highschool days , we made a video when we graduated using this song 😢😂 ❤ good times !
My take on it is that he's singing about a lost love, good love that went bad. "You were my 'soulmate', wish you were here now that I've woken up..."
Would love to hear your thoughts on Faith No More, highly influential band on the alt and nu metal genres.
Oh man. You need to do more incubus songs. Like atleast all of them. Theyre one of those bands that every song is good.
HEWfunkingKNEWit 100% agree!
Incubus- if not now then when
Awesome Vocals!!!!
Do stellar next!!! INCUBUS IS MT FAVORITE BAND EVER JUST SAW THEM LST MONTH FOR THIER “20years of make yourself”
One of the greatest lyrestcis ever
