- Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Bass & Kenny Drew, Piano performing a Danish folksong accompanied by Max Leth and another well known Danish bass player Hugo Rasmussen. Recorded in 1973.
never heard NHØP play a solo on a folk song, but boy, he nails it. It’s really hard to improvise on these simple chords, it’s not as forgiving as highly alterated jazz chords, you can sound wrong very easily. But not if you are the GOAT
The most fluent, well intonated acoustic bassist there ever was.
RIP. NHØP; THE BEST EVER I HAVE HEARD✨️🦋❤️💐🇩🇰✨️
The bassplayer in the background is Hugo Rasmussen. R.i.p.
I like this music so much. It is lovely, soft and such a good improvisation. What a great musician. So Sorry he has passed away to early.
One of the few pieces I can listen to endless on repeat, there is always more to discover...
Damn this guy makes me proud to be a Dane.. Human even!
He was the best. Greetings from Hungary!
His hand is like an angel dancing across that fretboard....
And to me, beeing a Scandinavian! Heard/saw him first in CPH 1964. The "old" man fm Norway (76yrs in 2020)
N.H.O.P. was fantastic!
To all who thought that bass serves only to sustain the rythm.
Some bass players do both at the same time.
I keep coming back to this video. It’s so comforting
Niels Henning is Heifetz of the Jazz bass players.
Brynjar Hoff
Solooboe in many Orchestra, and concerts in many internation country and Towns. London..New York Sanfransisko.Berlin-Køln-Barcelona.and many more.
Again
Brynjar Hoff
The most lyrical bass player I've ever heard.
Improvisations so accurate, so harmonic, so complex and clean ... it seems to me like classical music melodies, written down and with days & days of reharsal
Niels
I heard/saw him first time in CPH ( Montmartre Jazz Hus) the yr 1964! With Kenny Drew and the drummer Alex Riel, it was GREAT
The best bassplayer ever. And He is from Denmark…
"It was a Saturday evening" - what a cute song!!
NHØP - the One And Only! We will never forget you 🙏 Kenny Drew - thx for so many beautiful recordings!
I love NHØP's playing to death, of course, but so many of his recordings have a sound that comes largely through his pickups. What a treat to hear his natural tone!
How true your remark is! However, NHØP forever! ♥️
El mejor contrabajista del mundo..... My god Niels this is pertect ......
A very charming version of this lovely folk melody from Langeland, Denmark!
Da ascoltare all'infinito
Incredible. Just awesome
A wonderful musician he was...
Lovely. Niels was such a fantastic human being
♥️
Best bass player!!!!
These two musicians NHOP and Kenny Drew are just amazing performers. Their playing is unbelievable!
I love this gentleman's playing to bits, my wish is to tone it just like him...
Manden var et geni!
Impressive, this kind of players inspire me to be better and better in the music
best jazz bassist!!! bravo
Wow, save some bass notes for all of the other bass players in the world! Orsted has used them all with his fine technique, tone, an musical choices.
wow..such richness of tone.....
Bravo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Niels-Henning is the upright Jaco!
no...different "animals"
It would definitely be Jaco is the electric NHØP... But they play very differently anyway.
@@andrewkarp5067 agree haha
@@andrewkarp5067they're great... Anyway talking about jaco i think we must remember the music genius and composer he was.
Maybe here the discussion is only about they're technical ability on the instrument, but i struggle to separate the jaco composer from the bassist
Richard. Indeed, Jaco was a superb composer without question. But so was Niels. Most of his work as a band leader was released on a tiny independent label called SteepleChase. Occasionally something on Norman Granz’s Pablo label. Jaco’s best compositions were all released on an American major label. Thus, they had much wider exposure in the jazz world, because they were much easier to acquire.
There is no contest!
beautiful... Isn't NHOP just the greatest!!...
worldclass music !!!!

I just wish I could be just a tenth as good as NHØP...
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
respect !!!
That little girl in green in the back towards the end must be about 48 by now!
super .
So nice to hear a natural tone from NHOP, rather than the more processed tone I'm accustomed to from him. If I had to guess, I'd say he's got a bit more string height here than usual, too. Anyone know about that?
wowowowooww
@algreensurdo I agree with you there.
is that a fender rhodes?
Shit Folks! How he was GREAT , the late dane, NHØP (Niels Henning-Ørsted Pedersen) I heard/saw him live in CPH (Montmartre Jazz House) early 1960's
vackert
wouldn't have lasted long....the speed of his fingers.
goooooooooooooood božíííííííííííííííííííííí
Does anyone have a transcription of this?
No one beats NHØP
- og Bjarne Rostvold, trommer
NHØP!!
There have been a lot of excellent bass players but none like NHOP.
🥀😃🌻🍅
What can we say,
loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
