- Here is the first model train review to come of December 2020 and this one is a complete train set this time from Jouef and this model is the TGV Duplex in the colourful OUIGO livery. The train set comes with a track mat, a 12v train controller with a power pack and a larger oval of track. There is two locomotives with one being non-powered and two carriages to get you started. The reference number is HJ1042. This High Speed Train set certainly does have a nice livery on the model train and although the model train set not the worst model train set I have covered. It could have been much better.
In regards to the model train that comes in the set. The livery application is possibly the only thing that the model has going for it to be honest. The detail is very poor and the locomotives have the wrong pantographs on the roof as they are not even designed to go onto this TGV model train. The let down goes even further and it begs the question as to why Hornby-Jouef didn't into the effort of making accurate pantographs for the locomotives to make them look better considering that a lot of effort has gone into the livery application.
There is no central cab motor on this model train either and there is no directional headlights which has spoiled a potential great model here. Apart from the powered locomotive. The rest of the train has plastic wheels which is a shame and different couplers as well that prevents the compatibility of using the coach extension packs to make the train longer and the couplings on the locomotives are different and very basic.
The locomotives have no cab interior and hence the reason for deep tinted glazing and the two carriages that come in the set have no passenger interior either. Surely considering that the Eurostar train set metal wheels and interiors in the passenger cars. Would it have been too much for Hornby to implement this into the TGV OUIGO Duplex?
In comparison to the Mehano version that is covered by my buddy Sam over at SamsTrains. The only good things about this train set that makes it better than the Mehano version is that you get a better livery application on the model and more track. Personally I would have preferred to have forgone the track mat in favour of metal wheels, directional lights and interiors for the passenger cars on this train set.
Performance isn't great like on the AWD models although its not too bad either but its acceptable for pulling the basic train formation along the track that its intended to do. I would have loved to have seen all wheel drive like that is used on the Mehano model and directional lighting that would have beaten the Mehano model hands down as the Mehano version has a horrible and a poorly applied glossy paint finish and its not as well applied as this livery is on the Jouef version that I have covered in this review.
I highly encourage anyone to watch Sam's video of the Mehano train set version and compare it to this one and then if you watch both videos. You can then make your own decision on which version of the train set to buy as they both are about the same price.

Do note that this TGV Ouigo Duplex is technically in the Jouef JUNIOR line, which is designed for beginners to the hobby. I still don't like that Jouef didn't make both a Junior line start set and a Regular Hobby line model like Mehano did oh so long ago with interior and directional lighting, which by now are basically standards for model high speed trains. Also there are NO expansion packs for this set, like the newer lower quality mehano models. I hope hornby does this Ouigo Duplex and the Reseau Duplex in the premium packs. But as in the old days, a great HSR review and I look forward to more.
Hi there. I completely agree with you and I hope that Jouef will consider making a premium model of the TGV Duplex OUIGO train with the extension cars in the future. I am planning to get the TGV Thalys new PBKA train pack from Jouef in 2021 and the extra train cars to make the complete train. I do plan to get the Mehano TGV Reaseau Carmillon train set to review as I do like that train and it would be nice if Jouef would make a TGV Reseau Carmillon as a train pack in their premium range of model trains and I would also welcome a TGV Reseau Duplex as well with a different fleet number so that its different to the HJ2056 version that was released in 2006.

Transport & Simulation Hub I'm pretty sure that Jouef did do the TGV Sud Est in the carmillion paint a few years back. I've seen eBay listings with a Jouef TGV Bar car in the carmillion livery, and I've also seen on the sold out pages of either Eurolokshop (teeusa.com) or reynaulds, the TGV Sud Est carmillion. But it's becoming very scarce these days. Can't wait to see the next upload.

@@eX0dus77 I have model train reviews scheduled for every Saturday on this channel and model buses every Friday until the end of the year. The rest of the days is simulation/gaming videos until things return to normal as then I can do real transport videos in 2021.
Transport & Simulation Hub well it seems the calls have been answered. Jouef is doing the OuiGo Duplex in their premium line this year, along with the WR version of the classic Sud-EST.

Thanks mate. If you wanted a TGV Duplex train. I would recommend saving up and getting the train pack instead as the detail is far superior.

@@dublinbus93 The orange/grey TGV is the original TGV PSE (Paris Sud-Est) as this one is a TGV Duplex double decker train with OUIGO branding to offer low cost train travel around most of France. If you want the train set from this video. I found one for you mate.
