I live right around here, and I managed to get in and see this last event. It was really spectacular, congrats to the one guy whom I saw make it through made it through. It was really intense.
Fava's run- wow. Didn't think a rig that big stood a chance. Jokes on me- big block power and a long wheelbase work quite well in this challenge. Plus an insane bit of driving.
I love how everyone is just happy being at the competition and not overly concerned with winning. There aren't too many competitions out there like that anymore .
Miss the days of no sponsorships on the trucks and not 4 ft tall tires. Although when I was watching these as a kid with the 2000 & 2001 cd’s the tank trap didn’t look nearly as tough as this video does 😂
gotta love the attitude of these guys! the offroad community in general seems really cool. Minimal "wars" ebtween brands, most people are helpful and willing to give a hand to a driver in need. Even at competitions, they seem to just be happy to be able to do so, talk about how much fun it is, and even a broken part isn't a big deal, they'll just go fix it. And i've seen many times another offroader will stop and offer a hand. And we all know how nice an extra set of hands can be, eh?
Chevy is and always will be the best, but that vw is UNFAIR! That thing is ridiculous! The flex with the lightweight withthe wheelbase omg its the ultimate machine!
Hats off to the VW team "Varnish Wood" like to see somthing that was put together with the love of the sport and go so far in a challenge like Top Truck Challenge....
That rear steer is pure gold! On a medium wheelbase with good articulation and appropriate clearance I bet adding rear steer could be almost unstoppable.
the dude that was driving even said something along the lines of, "i just wanted to pave a path for the next 6 competitors." implying that yes, he was the only one to make it through so far, there were still 6 more people to go. They didn't spoil the ending, you just didn't pay attention.
Jennifer did well. If you are an experienced wheeler you will notice that she has a pretty good sense for picking lines. In this competition there is alot of stress that is put on you when the horn goes off so it is easy to make mistakes that you would not make out on the trail. Plus the videos dont do justice for how large and difficult the obstacles really are. My hat is off to all the competitors.
I think top truck should be like a 24 hour timed event with say three 1 hour repairs allowed. Course having all events in one big track. Quickest time wins. Bonus points for no repairs. I think that would be great to see
Actually it was. The voice over was live. The host was running...I repeat...running in front of the competitors commentating live the action as it happened. No sitting in a studio here, just live action without the cuts and clean up. Raw, just like the action.
Announcer- "What does it feel like to be the only person to cross the finish line in the tank trap this year?" Aaron Fava- "Happy to blaze a trail for the other six guys." So he didn't spoil anything.
My Hometown of Hollister California... awesome s.v.r.a. off of ceniga rd. Good MX tracks and lots of trails all over San Benito county... watch out for wild hogs though!!!
How is their no winners or losers as the guy says in the end? Its a competition soooo pretty sure their are winners and losers. If you don't wanna win or lose, a competition probably isn't where you should be.
Damn it guys, you always manage to edit out or skip over the best parts. I would love to see this with more coverage. Sad to see the Spokane guy was DNF. I thought he was the only one with a real shot at making it.
TTC has been going on for 21 years and I have some extra shirts from the last 9 years. Each year the shirts are different. I dont think I have any larges so check with Four Wheeler Magazine.
when he said that he meant so far, so they didnt spoil anything. the driver even said he paved a way for the next six guys, which means they didnt go yet and he didnt know if they would finish
Mostly this specific course... not a single dent on it, and then he did this course and is now completely smashed... he did say he was on his like 5th body...
Josh had issues with his motor. It was steaming when it got warm and after it had been run every day he'd have to drain coolant/water out of his oil pan every night.
...have a couple on standby...check my vids for an update, thanks.(hopefully running new truck by end of January) And yes, I left home knowing that sight unseen-Tank Trap was gonna own the straight panels and barely dry paint.
Actually the f350 came out of the whole comp with a small dent in the front fender from tank trap and a decent one on the pass side box from squeeze rock in frame twister that's it
Hey Aaron I still have some doors laying around and hoods if we can figure out how to get them from here to there, if you're not going to transplant that whole body you got from Jeremy.
He would have, was making good time but the rear steer was cranked to one side when the rear tires were under water and he couldnt see their location and the rear rode the bank up and flopped it. It sent the snorkel under water and had to shut off the motor and winched until the battery went too dead, but it wasn't easily uprighted so they called it there.

The VW is pretty sweet. Too bad he rolled and didnt finish.
Hats off to the VW team "Varnish Wood" like to see somthing that was put together with the love of the sport and go so far in a challenge like Top Truck Challenge....
That Crew Cab is an ANIMAL.
I love seeing the big trucks wreak havoc. Seeing that Big ass red chevy power through like that almost brought a tear to my eye.
That VW is a well built rig.
That rear steer is pure gold! On a medium wheelbase with good articulation and appropriate clearance I bet adding rear steer could be almost unstoppable.
That f350 looks cool to see
the guy with the long red chevy seems to be a cool and funny guy
9999900
+Arvo Pirttilä satan perkele, vittu
sea men
sea men juice
Looks like a blast and seems like a positive crew!
the dude that was driving even said something along the lines of, "i just wanted to pave a path for the next 6 competitors." implying that yes, he was the only one to make it through so far, there were still 6 more people to go. They didn't spoil the ending, you just didn't pay attention.
That vw is awesome its the beast from the east
East? I live in Eastern WA, so I guess that is true.
I meant east Germany lol
NICK SMITH its actualy a toyota and that is in the east as well lol
Oh I thought that was the vw my mistake Matt still a beast tho
Paul Smeets its deffinetly a Volkswagen says it up front and on the back also says it when the truck is featured on the show
seems like a great car scene, everyone help everyone and no one walk away pissed off
This is an event that should be held at least 3x a year. I know some Rock Bouncers who love to give this a shot.

I absolutely love Aaron’s Chevy crew cab, and the VW is 👌too
Its like a sacrificial event for 4x4s.
Standard bore Chevy 454 with domed pistons about 10.5:1 compression 781 open chamber oval port heads, Comp 280 cam, and a tune port injection setup.
i litterly said the same thing, "who the hell would take a crew cab off roading!?" and that made me give chevy some props
Excellent video. I want more of these. Thanks Motortrend.
Aaron Fava Rocks!
Thank you
"Only person to finish"
Happy to blaze a trail for the other six guys
He was interviewed when he finished, and he ran before most of the others.
surprised the chev was the only one to finish that. good on that guy.
it's a good thing there aren't many competition like this.
the purpose is to win, not just to be there, to be a loser.
The driver then said 'happy to place a trail for the other 6 guys'. They show the contenders in order of passage genius.
that is why its so awesome when someone succeeds.
I think top truck should be like a 24 hour timed event with say three 1 hour repairs allowed. Course having all events in one big track. Quickest time wins. Bonus points for no repairs. I think that would be great to see

that little vw, rare, and it was able to do a fantastic job. almost won even.
Thanks MT for putting these videos out here for us all to watch, but for the love of God, let someone else edit the videos next year.
Seemed like everyone was just trying to have fun, but the announcer insisted it was some sort of super competitive event.
Your correct. Its is a brake rotor that slows the vehicle at the diff. Instead of the wheels
That poor Chevy. It had some beautiful sheet metal.
it just competed in a gnarly event, its expected. Bodies are just sheetmetal.
That Red Chevy, wow, just destroyed the Trap :D
How is their no winners or losers as the guy says in the end? Its a competition soooo pretty sure their are winners and losers. If you don't wanna win or lose, a competition probably isn't where you should be.
Some pretty awesome trucks!
I LOVE that BIG ASS CHEVY!!!!
that's what makes it awesome!
the f-350 is awesome.
I love these videos!!! Wish its was on TV
You made it early! Congrats! Here's a balloon. You better feel special!
I agree. These videos were cut up so much that they were hard to follow. I would like to some more continuity next time.
Damn it guys, you always manage to edit out or skip over the best parts. I would love to see this with more coverage.

Yeah, when he finally got his fuel problems worked out. I would love to see him to the Tow Test again!
that was soooo coool to watch, thank you
Wow. That was intense.
All the trucks are pretty badass but the articulation that vw is capable of is absolutely ridiculous
We came close!
when he said that he meant so far, so they didnt spoil anything. the driver even said he paved a way for the next six guys, which means they didnt go yet and he didnt know if they would finish
It would be a 2 hour long video just for these 5 or so trucks if you wanted to see all of it.
Mostly this specific course... not a single dent on it, and then he did this course and is now completely smashed... he did say he was on his like 5th body...
i got a feeling matt and his vw gone win
2:25 So Sir i realize your trapped in a truck what are your thoughts on the matter?
that vw is badass
well up until that last hole
Next thing you know someone comes out with a big ass vw bug or EVEN A BUS THAT WOULD BE SO FUNNY
id be stoked
Thanks!
BRUTAL !!!!
Wow.. The guy with the crew cab Chevy is going to need yet another body after that run..
I can watch this in 1080P. Not sure what your issue is.
GRACIAS ENCANTADO DE ESTOS VÍDEOS AMIGO SALUDOS Y PENDIENTE..?
"what's it like to be the only person across the finish line in the tank trap this year."
The chick in the bronco should have never been let in, that truck has so much potential, but all her driver error screws it all up
I want to see the rig that gets these guys out when they don't make it haha.
an excavator
This is awesome
Josh had issues with his motor. It was steaming when it got warm and after it had been run every day he'd have to drain coolant/water out of his oil pan every night.
Um the guy said that he was blazing a path for the next 6 competitors. Meaning he was the first, but not necessarily the only.
exactly, when one tries the impossible everyone loses so everyone has fun.
Been there done that in our little MB Jeep (repowered) a million years ago - haha!!
Pretty sure he said there were 6 guys after him
The guy with the chevy crew cab is a great driver but he's going to have to find a new body, that poor truck took a beating.
...have a couple on standby...check my vids for an update, thanks.(hopefully running new truck by end of January) And yes, I left home knowing that sight unseen-Tank Trap was gonna own the straight panels and barely dry paint.
he must of got fuel back, i honestly think he would of won a few more if he had no issues
At 3 am prior...all systems go!
Not true. I took fourth in the tow test, eighth in the Frame Twister, and second in the mud pit.
Didnt that red chevy CC have a straight body at the beginning?
Wrong it's a '79 F-350. F-100s had been out of production a couple years, and they went to a new body style in 1980.
Actually the f350 came out of the whole comp with a small dent in the front fender from tank trap and a decent one on the pass side box from squeeze rock in frame twister that's it
Pretty sure he meant so far, since he was the 3rd person to go.
Hey Aaron I still have some doors laying around and hoods if we can figure out how to get them from here to there, if you're not going to transplant that whole body you got from Jeremy.
I think the DVD has more content. Don't want to give it all away for free.
CHEVY FOOOOOR LIIIFE !!!
Isn't the host the guy with the green 6x6 in a previous top truck challenge?
what a show
so glad they said no tube buggys
Of course they could have been talking about "so far." I don't think Motor Trend would let their video editing sink that low.
Dirt Every Day needs to make a truck for the top truck challenge
such nice people those drivers
That guy trashed his red chevy.
If you watch the pull challange man that thing looks fantastic! after this challange, time for a new body!
He said in the one that hes on like his 4th body and 3rd frame lol. Wasting those crew cab's.
those are some deep holes
If I edited my mud mower videos even half as bad as this I would never get views
that fucking crew cab dude I doubted it the whole way
if that f350s shift didn't break he would've won
If the crew cab didn’t have a fueling issue. He would’ve won the whole event
Buy the DVD.
Can't imagine what a proper diesel off roader would do here.
