- Wolfgang Siess is a professional hang glider pilot and instructor from Austria, but because of the coronavirus, tandem hang gliding and competitions were banned meaning Wolfgang lost his job.

Realising his sport was in danger with little funding and no travel, he bought a van and toured the US filming his flights in remote locations.
He noticed a huge reaction to his videos, with people who were in lockdown saying that it allowed them to momentarily leave their homes and experience the sport.
He hopes to return to competitions and instructing in 2021, but for now he's continuing to promote the sport.

Wolfi is a lot more than an outstanding ambassador and influencer to the sport!
Flying with him is an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. With an upbeat attitude about life, Wolfi is always thinking of the next project and how to turn lemons into a lemonade.
Thank you BBC for recognizing this amazing person who is always willing to help the next pilot.
If any of you are ever in Interlaken or Valle de Bravo I'd recommend doing a flight with Wolfi.

I very much enjoy hang gliding videos. I owned and flew a couple gliders back in the 1970’s. I especially like the videos that allow me to hear the wind in the sail, rather than a favorite song. Thanks.

Back then the film was expensive at about $1 per photo, and 3/4 of them were duds.

Good on ya Wolfie. Honestly I'm just struggling to get a van and a glider so I can just do that for a bit 😆. Did the grind till I literally blew my back out. Where did that get me? May as well do what makes us happy. Third year I have set the intention to learn hang glideing in NZ I know ilk get the funds too eventually when everything is paid off. Your videos and influence on this waaaay over looked form of natural aviation is a God send. You are the premier ambassador for this heavenly pursuit of this generation. I hope to help promote it too when I get there. The better the profile the better it will be for everyone! Great job 🙏

I discovered this sport this year and haven't stopped watching videos of it lol. This would be great in Ghana, we have the perfect weather and natural vegetation for exploring. I can't wait to learn ☺️

How do i get into hang gliding?
look for a local flying school. Nearly ever country got its own hanggliding association. Google it and lift off!
Which is better? Paragliding or hang gliding?
Hang. For fuller range of areobatic, speed, and responsiveness. Maybe like a Catalina 32 vs Hobie Cat 🤷🏼♂️
