Apparently there is a certain type of women who are quite impressed with the deliverymen in UPS brown outfits. Especially when they're wearing the summer shorts.
I don’t know where to start. I would say NO to almost everything in this video. I have a Submariner and it is not an elegant watch. It is a sports watch. My Cartier is my elegant watch. Collars & Co are not high end. They are 100% polyester. A elegant gentleman would never wear polyester or performance fabrics, which are also synthetic. The only acceptable fabrics for an elegant gentlemen are wool, cotton, linen and silk. This also applies to pants and suits. No to joggers, cargo shorts/pants Neither of which are elegant. I would also NO to sandals unless you are at the beach.
Love these tips but I’m not dropping my jeans. I lost 30 pounds in a little over 2 months after years of being miserable, and finally being able to rock my favorite pair of jeans and boots was such a great feeling.
Agree with the dress/performance slacks. Easier to maintain than chinos and look better than 90 percent of what everyone else wears. One of the easiest ways to step it up.
My thoughts on the novelty tie. Big loud images may not be classy but I'd argue that a fun micro-pattern "novelty tie can be just as classy since from a distance no one can notice it's a novelty pattern like what Hermes does or vineyard vines etc. I find that in my mid 20s a "fun" tie allows some playfulness that prevents looking too old.
Turning 30, becoming a new dad and having been married for 5 years I gotta say tracksuits have become my best friend in the cooler months! To make them work though the fit def needs to be right. You gotta be in a certain amount of shape, the suit also needs a nice taper. Everything around the tracksuit needs to be upgraded. I usually wear mine with a pair of Allbirds, shave my head and trim the beard every 2 weeks. Watchband matches the shoes and you just gotta make sure everything around that tracksuit is well put together. I get compliments left and right when I’m out with my tracksuits haha Usually no crazy prints, just a nice way to be put together and set on instant weekend mode. I think a video on Athleisure from you would be interesting. Maybe consider it?
Interesting general points --- but a stylish man such as Hugo Jacomet featured a custom yellow suit that looks terrific. So there are always notable exceptions, especially if suits and outfits are styled with beautiful shirts and shoes and accessories, etc.
@@RealMenRealStyle But I agree in general with your points. I especially agree about quality performance pants/golf slacks being important in a modern man's wardrobe and they are great for traveling and cruising---they pack up wonderfully and can be adaptable to a lot of situations.........thanks for your channel RMenRStyle and your engaging discussions.😃
A good video on the obvious fundamental danger areas. While I appreciate a well made jogger, I don’t delude myself that they are ever elegant. I only where them while actually working out or (on rare occasions) when I am in a position not to give a damn.
I replaced graphic tees with lapel pins. I can express my interests in a more elegant way. It does start concersations. I have a france flag, Texas flag, submarine, fleur-de-lis, and an autism ribbon.
Agreed Antonio! Dress clothes are elegant, the rest are functional. Ball caps, bucket hats, flips, goofy ties, cargos and jeans are all casual and/or functional. You can still look casual elegant but it takes work and knowledge of what goes with what. Fit, colour compliments, textures all play apart in that. Ask yourself, "If I was going to my boss's office to ask for a raise or deliver bad news how should I look?" Important life events like weddings and funerals are NOT the time to be a mod style icon. Look at the surroundings and see if what you are wearing is appropriate.
Good advice👍. I would add that if your clothes are the only thing people remember, you're doing it wrong. That's called fashion. You, not your clothes, should be the thing they remember. I have a general picture of Prince William dressing elegant, but I can't remember exactly what he wears. His clothes aren't the focus, he as a person, is. This is the fine line.
What you call a tanktop is called a vest in Ireland and Britain. But if worn without a shirt over it, it's colloquially referred to as a "wifebeater"! I think that says it all.
I love wifebeaters and will wear them until I’m cold in the ground. The way I figure, if you’ve got the body for it, it looks great. If you don’t have the body for it, there are plenty of caftans for you to try on.
If you are trying to faze out Jeans due to constantly waring themas I did until about 4 years ago, in most cases your favourite Jean brands also make other trouser types in a jean style. For example, I lived in jeans from my teens to late 30's and I got to the point where I wanted to try other styles but ultimately didn't feel comfortable doing so, it felt like I was over dressing. Until I explored the range from my goto brands (Levi and AllSaints) they make jean style trousers but made out of Chino or Corduroy material. I found I didn't feel over dressed when I wore them, because the Levi 511 Chinos or Cords tricked me into thinking I was wearing my trusty old jeans because the feel, look (the 5 pocket configuration) and fit are exactly the same as my jeans. It just made the difference and helped me alternate different trousers types 3 - 4 times a week rather than constantly living in jeans.
I am far from picky about how people dress but I totally agree on the baseball caps which give ya bad vibes in general. Perhaps in sports or on a beach but elsewhere it should be worn less common.
Another great video, but I detest vertical front pockets so I don't wear chinos. I get the Chino appearance with banana Republic pants that have the jean style front pocket. They're called the slim travel pants.
I wore a 5000/5600 G-Shock with a suit every day for seven years. The basic square G-Shock didn't/doesn't look out of place with a suit. I no longer wear suits every day, but I still wear G-Shocks... and divers,
After you graduate college or your early 20's should be the last time a man wears a baseball cap in all but the most casual of settings. If you're wearing anything more dressy than a t-shirt leave the cap at home.
I would agree on pretty much all of these items, but I strongly disagree with the general statement to never wear these as an elegant man. I think you can get away with one or even two of these items and still look very elegant, if you dress them up correctly. In fact, I think they can really spice up an elegant outfit under the right circumstances. For example a graphic tee with some good artwork printed on it can look very elegant with a well fitting suit, for example when you go to an art exhibition. Or balck denim with a dress shirt, dressy shoes and a nice jacket. I'm a huge fan of bending the rules of elegant fashion ever so slightly, because when you go to an event where everyone knows how to dress elegantly, often time the main differentiator is price. One wears a Seiko, the other one a Rolex for example. But when you wear one or two items that don't completely fit in to the the elegant style, you will draw attention and as long as you don't go too much overboard, usually it's positive attention, because it shows confidence and personality and makes people wonder "who is this guy?". As an introvert I'm not really the kind of guy who can just walk up to people and immediately start conversation with everybody and in the past I did not have the confidence to mix in bold accessories or colors into my outfits, I just dressed well. And usually i did not have many interactions with strangers at events and had some very boring parties and events where I would've liked to leave as soon as possible. Now that I do have the confidence to dress a bit bolder, I tend to get into a lot more conversations, because my outfits draw a lot more attention and interest towards me.
It's rough for me to dress the way I would like to dress in a more casual or elegant manner because for a 52-year-old male with two security guard jobs most of my time is spent in a uniform out of uniform I just wear what is relaxing to knock around the house or when I go out I know in my closet I have a lot of options but I don't know how to put those options together so don't look out of place I just wear like I said what is comfortable but at the same time I don't want to look like I don't know what I'm doing
Sadly up here in Alberta, Canada, I have lived in small towns, around a bunch of farmers and country folks, and I dress stylish and elegant... what do I get for it? 1. Lots of female gazes and attention 2. Various times being called "Preppy" 3. Various times being called Gay... this one I fricking hate and wish people would stop saying! Can anyone relate or give a bro some support?
So long they aren't the pre-distressed or pre-faded versions I'd disagree. A clean pair of dark blue jeans would be the same level of formality these days as khaki trousers.
The navy neck tie makes no sense to me, It doesn't provide enough constrast with most suits (navy/charcoal). Don't miss the chance to add some personality and color!
You have to be careful with regimental ties, especially if thrift store shopping. It is highly disrespectful to wear a military regimental tie if you did not serve in that group.
🤔,which is more cool looking ,a gentleman wearing a not that expensive yet quality vintage looking suit or a guy (with a beard)with formal neat shirt and pants, and use a long coat either wearing it normally or like a cape.
20 years ago i would have said jeans need to go, boring uniform stuff, but at this point, everyone is wearing even more casual pants. Chinos and joggers have that awful, unflattering taper and don't fall down far enough nowadays, and skinny clothes, none of this stuff is flattering at all.
Buddy of mine keeps telling me about the savanah bananas. I've always worn whats marketed as "khaki" pants for work. Black and khaki colored. Those are different than chinos? Similar?
Chinos are the actual name of the pants. Khaki (tan) is just one of the colors. I called them 'Khaki pants' for decades until I finally heard the correct name for them. 🤦♂
I don't understand the consistent recommendation for Collars and Co. I've tried them multiple times and each time the fit is not what you talk about. To get a size that fits my chest requires the sleeve to start halfway down my arm instead of at the shoulder. If it fits at the shoulder, it's a crop top on my stomach. I wish there was a good recommendation for another company that is doing polos right.
I've been making a lot of losses trying to make profit trading. I thought trading on a demo account is just like trading the real market. Can anyone help me out or at least advise me on what to do?
Polo shirts aren't really any dressier than tank tops. Some women get away with their whole wardrobe being stuff like tank tops, too, which is another annoying double standard, blah, blah...
If you can't really TELL from a distance that it's Spiderman, then it's probably fine, especially if you're also wearing a vest or even a sweater and not much of the tie is showing, anyway. Obviously, most people consider bow ties LESS elegant than neckties now but then give bow ties EXTRA status when it comes to elegant stuff like prom, so they may understand less how to style bow ties or give them more a free pass for novelty designs when NOT at a black tie event, etc.
The term should be 'Frankenstein Squad,' not zombie. That's just bad journalistic writing you're following. Not that there's much good football journalism in the UK anymore, The Athletic excepted.
Of course a bright colored yellow suit isn't elegant and it's not supposed to be. It's an attention getter. You said you talked to him because he had that yellow suit on. Would you have found him interesting enough to talk to him if he had been dressed in a regular run of the mill suit?

Best way I've heard it put 👍
elegance is more of an inside job.
Especially true for women.
Work uniforms, especially ones with logos, are also something which doesn't really cut it for an elegant look IMHO
Says the guy who calls himself timcheeseman...
Apparently there is a certain type of women who are quite impressed with the deliverymen in UPS brown outfits. Especially when they're wearing the summer shorts.

I personally wear a cowboyhat for just about everything, myself. In Texas it goes well with suits, as well with casual wear
I always thought Herb Tarlik, the station sales manager from WKRP in Cincinnati was a sharp dresser😊
