    Excellent, informative video. Being a local bloke I recognise all of these spots.

    Thank you for bringing us this very impressive video presentation which is very much appreciated. The power of the rivers are phenomenal, you can see why these rivers had so many mills beside them. It's funny that despite all the talk of using renewable energy that more use is not made of these rivers.

    One of the very few things that scares me is the un-bridled power of water when rivers flood. I used to live in a village in Suffolk that had a river flowing through it. The river flooded and the flow rate was such that it eroded the bank under a 100+ year old workshop resulting in the whole building collapsing and being swept away. Scary stuff.

    Thats a lot of rain, any more and it'll be over the sides. I'm wondering how the culverts are doing, no don't go and have a look!!
    Have a great weekend!!

    In my city (Aberdeen) up here in Scotland, we have a river called "River Don" and also "River Dee". So you can imagine my confusion when you were showing and talking about the "River Don" but I wasn't recognizing where on (my) river Don this was plus the street/town names and the river Loxely. I'm sitting here like _"EH!! ..Where the fuq along the Don is this"_ while scratching my head. Then I was like _"Hol'up! His accent.. Is there another river Don in England?"_ and here I am.. LOL 😂🤣😂 *DOH!* 🤪

    That is insane. Down here in Devon we luckily missed most of the storm, otherwise i would have been out looking at how the rivers on Exmoor are doing, especially in places like Lynmouth. I just find it amazing that clouds can hold so much water.

    5:11 If that tree moves, it could get stuck under the bridge and then the force of the water could wash away the bridge.

    The river Rother (which you may be familiar with) was really bad with flooding over last weekend that it completely engulfed Catcliffe once again. Went down on Monday after the water had gone down and the smell of the mud was absolutely revolting. There was a smell of sewage and damp, and the water rose so high (about 7 foot) that all the cars that were parked up were completely submerged and the interiors wrecked. Some guy was offering to deep clean peoples cars after the floods and I just said that it would be a complete waste of time whether they are written off or not, as you’d never get rid of the sewage smell out of the seats and carpets etc , let alone all the bacteria / viruses that it carries.

    i was hoping you'd head up towards the source see how bad the overspill was at loxley reservoir but you barely go past where the don joins loxley

    Why don't they put water turbines in some of these places and store some energy? At least it could power some street lights or something like that!

    • @thedrainmaestro
      @thedrainmaestro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      things like this would badly damage a water turbine, very good for normal levels but high levels are not so good 😢

    • @davidhowe6905
      @davidhowe6905 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen an Archimedean screw turbine in that area (Loxley or Rivelin valley, not sure); nice throwback to ancient engineering; I wonder if it's OK.

      @@davidhowe6905 hi i know which youre talking about in the loxley valley
      last time i saw it it was switched off
      so not sure whether that was in preparation for the storm or because its not in use anymore
