    • @maarten9272
      @maarten9272 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

@Alexander Supertramp The world building is a bit subtle but it's certainly there. A good example would be how the central government in the Earth Kingdom sees it's power decrease the further you get from Ba Sing Se. They have complete control within the capital (secret police and such), yet the frontier provinces are fully autonomous (Omashu has it's own king and Chin village has it's own law system). It's this kind of world building that Atla went for rather then the more popular version of info dumping a towns entire history at first contact.

One of my favorite things about Avatar and the creators is that they were adamant from the beginning that it was going to have a conclusive ending and that the show wasn't going to drag on forever. While it was airing, it was the greatest thing ever, and it would have been easy to try and keep that momentum and go on for four, five, seven, or twelve seasons. But Michael and Bryan knew that if they had done so, they would have risked dragging the show out for too long and becoming creatively bankrupt and stale. While I would have loved it if Avatar continued airing, I have tremendous respect to the entire team for instead choosing to produce one of the most satisfying, well-timed, and conclusive endings in any story I have ever read or watched. Some other television series should take some serious notes from these guys.

Legend of Korra exists, but I get it's not technically the same thing since it's the next Avatar and thus an entirely new story. Regardless of any thoughts on the show (I still haven't finished it), it was a good compromise to have a generational skip with some of the original characters around just to show their impact on the world.

Not to mention how many friends it made, and continues to make me :) I hold 2 avatar marathons a year. One showing a season a day for 3 days, and the second is an all-nighter taking 25 hours. I´ve been re watching it for years now and there is not one single time that it doesn´t feel like the first time seeing the series, hell I still laugh at the jokes even if I´ve heard them lots of times! . It´s so unique and fond to my heart in so many ways, one of it being still in contact with three of the people I met in the internet thanks to ATLA and even got a chance to meet one of them in person two years ago, which was a very touching moment for both of us, being only chat pals for almost 7 years if not more. They'd probably redo it in better hands first...I hope. Man, has Avatar left an impact on me. I can remember when it was premiering back in 2005-2008, when I was 5-8 years old. I was a stupid kid I guess, or maybe I just wasn't mature enough for it yet, but for some reason, Avatar just felt sort of... meh to me back then. I would be watching other cartoons (usually on NickToons rather than the actual Nickelodeon channel) during lunch or dinner or something, and if Avatar came on, I'd just be like "uggghhh", but nothing else was on, so I watched it. Years flew by, I grew up a little more, got to middle school, and 5 years later, there I am, sitting in my French classroom, and what do I overhear? A few of my classmates talking about A:TLA. And in my head I was like, "oh yeah, Avatar! That show sucked." They then went on to say that it was their favorite animated show. Of course I was like, "HUH???", but I ignored it for a few months. Finally, when December came around, my classmates still sometimes going on about the supposed greatness of Avatar, I decided, "Okay. I'm going to give this show a second chance. Maybe I just saw the worse episodes or I just wasn't mature enough or something." I look it up online, and after about 20 minutes of searching (since my family doesn't have Netflix or anything like that), I found the first episode (and in fact the entire series) for free in good quality online. And I was IMMEDIATELY hooked. I shit you not, I sometimes pretended I was sick so I could stay home from school and watch more episodes. Now, a year since, I have Appa earrings, Avatar pictures all over half of my room, a fanfic in the making, and I'm asking for the comics, DVD Collection, and other Avatar merchandise for Christmas. And this is from a show that before I thought was just BLAH.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is by FAR my favorite TV show, animated or not, of ALL TIME. It's just the right mix of action, comedy, spirituality, and romance, all paired with a complex story and BEAUTIFUL characters. This is definitely a show that I'll be showing to my kids when I'm older, and hopefully they'll show it to theirs. Thank you SO much for making this show Michael DeMartino and Bryan Konietzko!!!

If only more writers were like this. Going in with a story that has a set number of seasons that they stick by. So many writers for shows go in not really knowing how many seasons they're going to have and not having a set ending for their show, so they end up with 8 to 10 seasons and it turns into a big mess.

Uncle Iroh is my 3rd favorite character overall, after Sokka and Zuko. While Iroh certainly is an incredible character, with his unwavering kindness (directly contrasting with the "evil firebender" stereotype), and unique wisdom, he never really underwent any character development at all, since he was already an amazing source of guidance from the get-go. Ironically, I did not like Zuko and Sokka at all from the get-go, but as the series progressed, they have both undergone tremendous character development, becoming the most well-rounded, relatable and interesting characters of all.

THE SCOOP ON AVATAR KOSHI AND THE DARK REPUBLIC avatar after Korra
      IT HAS
-A government that maybe out to enslave
mankind by getting rid of powerful benders/people in its way while using a upgraded form of the Ba Sing Se mind control
and allowing the wealthy financiers immunity and a seat at the top of the new world order because now in these times free will
is treated as a thing that needs to be irradiated.
-A avatar that is from a more urban street type of life and not sure if he and his friends are on the right or wrong side
of a pending war plus being infused with both Raava & Vaatu which makes him extremely powerful but also extremely dangerous
-A new enemy with a weapon to not only take away bending but harness it and use it including taking away special skills
so just imaging an enemy with Azul's Blue flame, Zaheer's flight, lava-bending, lightning bending and maybe even Koshi's
own special skill of earth water bending (ability to move in and out of earth like a dip in the pool) just to name a few
-And not to mention dealing with all of the typical teenage problems like love, friendship and betrayal all while trying
to prevent a world war. read more here www.gofundme.com/avatardarkrepublic

Avatar the Last Airbender is a classic, a masterpiece and honestly the Golden Standard for what an animated series should be. Thank you for this video, I just watched it as an adult after rewatching this series. This is the best animated series of all time in my opinion.
(hopefully this video never gets taken down for any reason, future audiences deserve to see this)

I love these two guys. Hopefully they'll continue the Avatar franchise for years to come. (I personally would like to see the story of an Avatar born in the Earth Kingdom, because earth benders rule.)

Me too like at least a series or saga for the next two avatars after Korra, so then there would be episodes about an earthbending avatar and episodes about a firebending avatar.

Well, one thing I liked that these guys said was "we don't wanna tell a story that just goes on forever;" they weren't about serializing this stuff for constant production of entertainment - it was a concise story that was so well paced BECAUSE they limited their scope, everything good has to end and sometimes that end really elevates it

The depths that these guys went to create this show is absolutely amazing. Not only were they inspired by martial arts and eastern culture but they had they the respect to go to the actual people and learn from them. The respect they had. Also the diversity of the writing staff is also something to be admired.

to watch every single episode of avatar in a complete marathon takes less than 24 hours, and after watching this documentary it's so amazing that the 5 years of work they put into it can be fully appreciated in less than a day. it's wonderful how tightly packed every element of the show is and yet so much passion and love just explodes outward, all from a simple drawing of a little bald kid with an arrow tattoo and a couple of animal companions.

Avatar was my whole childhood. I’ve watched the series COUNTLESS times. My memories of avatar is coming home from school and watching it from beginning to the end. When I’m finished and I’ll watch it all over again. I did that for years. Thank you to the whole team for creating a timeless series. I would enjoy it even when I’m old and fray. Even if it was a never ending story I would still watch it and never be bored. Thank you for giving me the my childhood memories.

I first watched avatar back in middle school when it was on Netflix around 2011 or 2012. I remember being this kid who knew instantly this was something way more special than anything I have ever seen before. And now almost 9 years later, I rewatch it every year and a half. I've never rewatched a show like I have with avatar. This is my all time favorite show and I will be showing this to my kids one day. It's greatness has to live on and be shared. I feel lucky to have it in my life

i remember watching avatar from the moment it premiered when i was 7 to the finale of aang finally defeating the fire lord when i was 10. my friends & i quite literally grew up with the show and with korra - aang guiding us through childhood and korra through adolescence. the avatar universe has made me into who i am today. when i was younger i was mostly preoccupied with the characters and the plot and the drama and the fun, but as i get older i understood how deeply the life lessons & spirituality within the show resonated with me. connecting to my spirituality has guided me through my darkest moments, and i cant thank bryke enough for introducing me to these concepts at such a young age.

When I travelled overseas in 2007 I remember watching ATLA on nickelodeon in my grandmas home with my cousins. It was the first time I had seen the show as back home I didn't have nickelodeon on my tv, so I was immediately hooked as I began to fall in love with the animation, the characters, the voice acting and especially the soundtrack/background music which was my favourite part, as well as the overall vibe of the show. I had never managed to finish the show though, so around 2012 I decided to binge watch the seasons online. I was so upset when I finished all 3 seasons as I became so overly attached that I left a post on yahoo answers demanding why it ended haha.. Now I'm 20 and after all these years I'm still attached to this masterpiece. It was and still is an amazing show that shaped my childhood.
P.S. I'm still upset it ended haha..
