    >Majored in Russian.

    >Nobody will hire.
That's it, I'm joining the military. I wanted to when I graduated highschool, but college was non-negotiable. At least I'll finally have a job that isn't retail or rideshare.

My parents threatened that they'll kill my dog, break my legs(I believe its true), and that they will never let me come home if I join the military. I'm still gonna do it cause its all I've ever wanted to do. Due to their threats all that's gonna be left of me is a note on my desk. No good bye's cause I like being able to walk.

I was never in the military. But, being a little older now, turning 30 in Feb, NEVER let your parents dictate your dreams when you grow up. You are in control of your destiny. You can listen to their advice or criticisms, but NEVER let them discourage you from what your heart is telling you. Whether it be the military, careers, religions, being gay or straight, WHATEVER. You will one day have regrets.
Besides, SOMEONE has to be out on the battlefield, someone needs to be truck drivers, someone needs to be police, someone needs to clean the floor at Walmart, someone needs to control the crazy fires in California, NOBODY is above these important roles in society. YOU become the woman/man you want to be.

I support our troops, always have and always will, but it is not a life I wanted for any of my children. My second born child, my first born son, was a teen on a path to ruin and together we decided that Job Corps may be the answer for him so in March, at 16, off he went. He turned 17 in May. In August he called and asked if he could take the ASVAB and talk with a recruiter. Afterwards he called me and told me that his recruiter was a decent guy, laid out all the pros and cons in an honest dialogue and in his mind he felt the pros outweighed the cons and his heart had been set on enlisting in the Army for some time now, he just didn't know how to break it to me....."Ma, I need this. Will you please sign the papers?" I felt like I'd been kicked, not because he asked but because I had somehow instilled in him a fear of discussing his goals with me. I got shade from his older sister "You're signing him over like some sort of package!" and from his bio father (who is a straight sack of maggots to my son) "Don't let that boy join the G*ddamned Army, there ain't no future in that!" But all I heard was the bravery in my son's voice as he told me he needed this, the conviction as he explained what an honor it would be for him to join the men and women who stand for our freedoms and I signed the papers. He will graduate from Job Corps in December and he will ship to BCT in January. I am terrified. I've never been more afraid of anything in my lifetime. There is an old saying "To raise a child who is comfortable enough to leave you, it means you've done your job. They are not ours to keep." I've tried to keep that in mind, these children are just borrowed treasures that I get to hold for a while and I need to help them find their ground and be confident enough in myself and in them to let them go....it's not easy, especially with the negativity that was thrown over his decision to enlist and my decision to not hinder him even though he is just 17....the thing of it is, though, I know this young man better than he even knows himself half the time because he is flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood....that heart that beats in his chest first beat within me before it ever felt the strain of the world. I know he is destined for greatness and he needs a clear path to reach his goals, my job now is to sit in the bleachers and cheer him on. That is precisely what I intend to do.
    Hooah!

He'll be fine mom, chances are he won't even be deployed to a war zone even if he is infantry. I knew more people that didn't get deployed to a war zone than that did. I unfortunately did get deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 and although it has changed me I never regret anything I've done and am thankful everyday for the opportunities the Army has provided me. It sounds like you have done a great job raising him and the Army will instill in him the morals and back bone to be a real man. Best of luck to you and your son. PS: What is his MOS?

Hey, great video, brother. The military is the best thing that ever happened to me. I was a punk-ass, disrespectful, lazy, little shit when I went in at 18. That shit got nipped in the bud; quick, fast, and in a hurry though. The military has taught me values that I will take with me for the rest of my life. My biggest mistake was ETS'ing, I've had, and am still having a hell of a time reintegrating back into civilian life. My hatred for civilians has reached epic proportions, especially the younger generation.

      ***** How exactly mate?

    • @cp9662
      @cp9662 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Haha ok kid. You realize that there is no difference in Army infantry and USMC infantry right? They both do the same thing and chances are nowadays you won't even see combat. I know WAY more infantry from Army and the USMC that did not see combat than those that did. If you are not doing infantry then it makes absolutely no difference what branch you join. All the branches have hundreds of support role MOS's (multiple different kinds of mechanics, eletrical, engineering, wiring, communications, and supply just to name a few examples). I know you think that you'll be some big well respected badass if you join the marines but honestly in the real world people do not give a shit which branch you served in. They won't respect you more just because you joined the marines. In summary, if the marines is a fight with your family, and you want to do infantry, then the army offers infantry also. If you want to do any of the hundreds of other MOS's other than infantry, then any of the branches offer those. And again, I can almost guarantee you won't ever see combat even if you do want to join the infantry, so if that is why you want to join the infantry then I would rethink and join with an MOS that gets you a job after you get out.-US Army infantry, 2006-2010, 1st tour in Afghanistan, 2nd tour in S. Korea.

Biggest life lesson I learned is blood relation doesn't make you family trust and respect does and that's your choice on who gets that trust and respect I remember when I joined that army back in 2017 my dad told me I was too slow (like mentally) and would quit I've never felt more self pride then when I got my black barret and earned my title and especially when I got to call my father and tell him I succeeded my 2 cents for you is follow what makes you happy it will be hard and grueling and will test you to your very core but I put it like this I may not agree with the gov at every decision but I respect the soldier next to me and would never give up the lessons they taught me for anything

I grew up I'm a military family and ever since I was little I wanted to join. Finally when I turned 17 which was in October I looking into it ALOT and I made a time to go see a recruiter and went and seen him two day ago and he made me take a pre asvab test and what I would want to go in for and I told him infantry either 11B or 11C. My mother says shit to try and make me feel bad for wanting to join but I tell her that I know she will be afraid but no matter what I'm going to join so she should at least try and support me. So listening and watching this video helped a little as in going to talk to her about going one of these times to see my recruiter and talk to him to at least help her more calm. Thank you.

Hey my advice is; do what's in your heart... don't let your parents hold you back. I served in the military for 31 years and honestly that was the BEST move I ever made... I have several reasons why for example here's one; I have two high speed degrees (BS & MS in Engineering) that the military paid for... and also my two children have high speed college degrees paid in full by the military... wow... no other job in America can top that.

I told my Dad first because I knew he’d gone through the same thing at 17, (Big reason he didn’t join was because of taking anti-depressants at the time) he made lots of points on why I should definitely take my time to consider it, pray, learn more, and also to understand what I’ll be sacrificing if I did. I enjoyed the discussion with him.
He told my mom afterwards, so I didn’t know how she felt until a week later when I asked her about it, she shared that she was terrified for me, but extremely proud of me for considering such a huge step in life.
This concludes one thing: if you’re reading this and concerned about telling your parents, just go for it, whether they react badly or more along the lines on how my parents did, it’ll feel good to get it out there.

My older brother is already in. My mom has had a few freak outs because of that, but having one kid at home has been a comfort to her. My brother enlisted after finding out college wasn’t a fit for him, and my parents are happy he found a career path. I was always supposed to be the scholar child, but I'm over college. I will have my brother on the phone when I tell my parents I'm enlisting. I have a large suspicion I will get different treatment. Definitely will need my brother to have my back.

Oh my god, this dude looks like a younger version of my Uncle Mark! Random thought...Great video! My parents are pretty anti-militaristic, especially my mom. I'm 16, female, their firstborn, and they're super education-oriented. Probably why I've been in a fucking school burnout since 8th grade, lol. Anyway, it comes down to this: Emerson had it right in his Self-reliance. There comes a time where you have to decide to live your life how you want to or to let other people live your life for you just because you don't want to lose them/they think they know what's best for you. The truth of the matter is that if someone truly cares for you, then they should love you unconditionally and accept the choices you make regardless of whether or not they agree with them. Especially if you are an adult, legally or maybe also maturity-wise. They'll be there to support you always. So, yeah, at 18 I'm planning to join the Marine infantry regardless of whether or not they want me to. Probably just leave them a note saying what I've done. Be easier on all of us.

My dad was in the army which lead my brothers to join the marines & army. While I want to join aswell, my dad and step mom were proud and happy about me joining very supportive. I decided to tell my mom by a phone call so I told her and she told me to never call her again and to take care. My mom was a very caring person but since my dad and her divorced she cared less about me. So then I moved to my dads. I Just felt uncomfortable living with her bc she had 3 other kids with her boyfriend which she didn’t really have me enough attention and didn’t care what I did which made me do bad decisions, then I went to live with my dad where I’m in a more comfortable place. Even tho she won’t ever talk to me again I’m still her daughter I’ll love her always and wish the best for her🤷‍♀️

My parents were and are not supportive of me going into the military. I ended up going to college (which is what THEY wanted) and doing AFROTC. Even while trying to join as an officer in the Air Force, they pressured me to eventually quit, getting me to convince myself I didn't want it. I went on with college while balancing out 2 part time jobs and Track and Field. I found myself depressed and having anxiety about the future cause nothing felt "right". At the end, I graduated with a piece of paper and about 35K in debt. Almost a year out and I working a job that's not even in my degree. After getting married and a supportive husband, I've re-introduced myself to the military and plan to go into the Air Force. If it's not for me, atleast I did my time. I decided to "break the news" to them after I've sworn in so I can be more focused. I know they most likely ridicule me up till I put on the uniform but I know what I want, and ready to go!

I fought with my parents for months to allow me to join... Sad part was I already turned 18 when I solidified my decision of following my dreams since I was a kid. Honestly it based off your parents perspective and how they perceive the Army or other branches to be, but in the end if you do follow through your parents will accept you. If not then that's dumb for the parents to think that way of their child.

Thanks for making this video. I was up late, thinking about my son joining and stumbled on this. I was really surprised at the amount of parents that shit on their kid decision to sign up? I would never send them away telling them they’ve made a horrible choice? I’m just going to stand by his decision and support him any way I can. Really going to miss him while he’s away and that’s the only problem I have, but that’s just me. Your video really cheered me up. Thanks for that and thanks for your service.

Jim EC - My bet is that you're going to be impressed with the changes you see in your son when he returns. Let him be the judge of whether his decision was horrible or not, but tell him his experience will be what he makes of it, like anything else in life.
When he leaves wish him Luck, tell him to serve Honorably, and to NEVER Quit. (I say "NEVER" because I've known/met a number of people who did. For most it blew away their sense of self-confidence for many years to come.) Then tell him you're confident he can handle it Those things, along with a handshake/hug and a big "I/We Love You" are the best things a young person leaving for Basic could hear.
PS - sorry to butt in, but your comment touched me. I hope my words help. You may miss him, but I'm sure you're pride in him will make up for that. Good Luck !

always talked about joining the armed forces, my parents knew this. Since the war in the Ukraine I was told to think about another alternative.I can understand why they (my mom) says this. But my dream of doing something meaningful is far greater. What I always say is "who would I be as a person if I said I wont join up because of the war in the Ukraine?" I will be joining, one way or another. I have been thinking about it for many years, and my decision has not changed. Follow your dreams, or you will resent others for not choosing your own path. Every member of the military should read War Is A Racket by Major General Smeadley Butler. And every high school senior should read it. Written by America’s most decorated hero at the time of his death in 1940. The military doesn’t fight for our freedoms overseas. They fight to make corporations millions of dollars at the expense of the taxpayers. Smeadley won 16 medals and was America’s most decorated hero at the time of his death. He wrote War Is A Racket to teach of us who profits from war, why we fight wars, and this is coming from a warrior himself. Nobody in the government has his credentials. We need to pass a constitutional amendment that doesn’t allow our troops to go over 500 miles from our shores. And completely withdraw every member of the military to bring them home. As the fifth chapter of War Is A Racket is called To Hell With War.

This keeps popping up in my recommended videos, so I feel compelled to write something. You have to be 18 to join the Infantry. Parents can suggest things, but the choice is in the hands of the recruit, ultimately. If a recruit is swayed by what mommy has to say about it, then I have to imagine that the Infantry doesn't want to waste resources on that soldier. Am I wrong?

You also get less bonuses, take the asvab and see what other jobs you qualify for. I got programming as a Marine, which led me into my career as a computer scientist. Be smart, don't be basic.

Except you don't support your country by joining the military. That's complete bullshit. You do not help the everyday men and women of your country by joining the military. That's just bullshit that people are taught to spew, in the name of patriotism.
No one comes back the same once they come out of the military. You are psychologically manipulated into becoming a mindless killing machine. You are programmed to obey orders without question. It will leave you fucked for life unless you have extraordinary mental strength. There's a reason why most infantry regiments only require the reading and mathematical ability of a 13 year old.

Thomas Hamilton Are you stupid? You think everyone in the military has orders to pick up a gun and kill people? How close minded do you have to be lmao. There’s jobs in the military that are LITERALLY the same to a civilian job, the only difference is you wear a uniform.

Thomas Hamilton Boys and girls, Thomas Hamilton is exactly what a coward sounds like. If we ever get invaded, he is the guy that will back stab you to save his own life.

you just have to show her you're serious, and that it's what you wanna do, what your going to do. she will understand and come around, she's your mom, so she's just acting like a mom. haha. you could have her watch this video... and then subsequently ban you from using TH-cam ever again. 😎 why doesn't she want you joining?
