Seat looks great. It is always difficult buying things like seats, as they cost a lot but may not improve things for me as a rider. Glad that this seat has worked out well for you
Core strength and focusing on holding your posture with your core and legs squeezing the tank (rather than wrists/shoulders) is a great way to make riding a sport bike "more comfortable" (if there is a such thing).
Something I did on my GSXR600 for riding in hot months at slow speeds (commuted on it in Arizona back in the day)... I tapped a 12v power source and wired it into a switch - then to the radiator fan (in parallel to the OEM wiring). Just make sure the wiring & switch are rated for the amperage the fan pulls (or use a relay). That allowed me to switch on the fan before it came on normally at 218F/103C. It helped keep the bike cooler red light to red light but still would heat up eventually unless I got going over 45mpg/72kph for a few miles.
Another good video Andy. About 4 years ago, I went and tried a Yamaha MT10 demonstrator. Loved the bike, hated the seat. When I bought a new MT10 a few months later, I had a comfort seat fitted and have been besotted ever since. I wonder how many people are put off buying certain bikes(like your Panigale, my MT10) and others. Why can Bike manufacturers not sell a comfortable seat from the off and then offer an uncomfortable option, instead of the other way round!
I bought a Yamaha Tracer 900 GT, that also has a shocking standard seat, the ‘comfort seat’ that they offer for £220 is also terrible. After an hours riding it becomes unbearable. I got a local company to deconstruct my seat and rebuild it using memory foam and they made me a brand new custom cover with a grippy alcantara part that stops me sliding my nadgers into the tank. It’s as if Yamaha seats are only good for a 120lb 5’2” Japanese test rider.
Thanks for an interesting episode. As I age, I’ve found some farkles like this to keep me on my beloved sportbike (Honda Interceptor): lower pegs, higher bars, throttle lock. Well done.
I'm upgrading my seat. I was thinking about Alcantara and leatherette mix, but apparently Alcantara can wear quite noticeably. That beautiful texture and feel that you paid all that money for disappears, as the nap starts to lie flat! Alcantara also absorbs oils from your hands, and dirt from your clothes. I think I'll stick with a nice diamond pattern leatherette with white stitching and some highlighted red stitching, tons of padding, and a gel insert!
Just remembered something else - lighter oil in the forks. Makes them a bit more pliant on the road. (or get them rebuilt by MCT ! I'm sure they would give you a good deal and a video of them doing it would be interesting.
Hope your arthritis improves Andy and we get to see a video blog of you soon in Australia and / or New Zealand. New seat looks an absolute peach of an improvement.
Thanks Steven - I'm glad to report - touch wood - of late my shoulders have been a lot better (thanks to some Cortisone injections)....."down under" is very much top of my "must do" tour list....
If you can have a garage queen then you should Mr Flyer. Never make excuses for loving beautiful things. Mine is a 1975 Suzuki TS185 in MX trim. Sorry if that makes you jealous 😬
I seen a comfort seat for my gsxr 1000 06 ,, on eBay 16year old bike and still £250pounds so I'm going to buy a second hand one and get a gel insert and a nice seat cover 😁😁,, glad you're one worked out glad you kept the Ducati special bike ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
A decent seat is a must on the road ! Andy, have you tried putting different clip ons on the Panigale ? You can get some that have the tubes starting from halfway along the fork tube, meaning less of a reach and a slightly more upright position. I've had experience with ducabike clip ons, they were very adjustable, you can change the angle of the handlebar tubes in the vertical plane, as well as fore and aft of course.
Looking like a few people are suggesting having the suspension looked at. I'd suggest Ktec for that and also get the suspension serviced. I'm guessing it's never been done. Bennets have a video posted recently about what they do in a service.
Excellent!! glad you did it as just not sliding forward all the time makes a big difference. The other big improvement I found was adjustable rear-sets. I fitted Giamoto ones (not sure if they are available any more) but moving your foot 2cm forward and 2cm down made a massive difference for me. I fitted a throttle spacer as well which was pricey for a bit of plastic but did make a difference to the initial throttle "snatch" Also, I have an Ohlins TTX GP rear shock available for a fair price (you can fit it in about 20mins) which also makes a big difference on the road (never got to ride it on the track unfortunately) Keep up the great videos!
I've got all 3 seats, standard, comfort and performance, for my 959 and I'd say the comfort is the best but it does raise the seat height ever so slightly. I'm a short arse
@@shadowred1980 it's definitely more comfortable on longer journeys . The performance seat gives you more of a racing position with more weight on you wrists.
Hi Andy, that seat looks the business! I hope you get your shoulders sorted soon, arthritis is a painful thing to suffer with and know how you feel. I have it mostly on the right side and suspect it's creeping into my shoulders and hands too. Take it easy and keep enjoying your bikes 👍
Seemed like an enjoyable ride on the Ducati. Sounds good especially when you give it plenty of throttle. Yes looks a better padded seat which allows longer riding.
Another enjoyable video Andy - thank you! Just a thought- have you set up the bikes suspension for your weight etc or had it upgraded? I replaced the rear shocks on my Speed Twin for a pair of Nitrons built for my weight etc and the seat was instantly “more comfortable”. Might be worth a try!
Hi Mr Flyer, it's very nice to see you out on the Panigale and that you found a way to make it more comfy. As a old school kind of guy when it comes to bike accessories (tight a.f) I hate the idea of forking out almost £200 for something which ought to be as standard, but in this case I think you probably owed yourself the respite. I wish you many more happy and safe rides in the future - I'll be watching! (ooo that sounded a bit weird lol) :>)
Best comfort mod on a bike like this is to fit a pair of foam handlebar grips. (not grip puppies). Looks a bit 80s but costs about five quid and is easily reversible. Helps absorb all the jarring through your palms on our knackered roads.
@@TheMissendenFlyer they fit over the top of the existing grips and make them quite chunky. And they seem to be made of something more akin to neoprene rather than soft foam. I found they didn't help much, but everyone is different so it may still be worth giving them a try 🙂
Hehe took your time getting one of these Mr Flyer. I've been following you since you bought your 899 and was surprised this wasn't one of your first upgrade! 😂. This was one of my first upgrades for my old 899. Really made the difference in beeing able to grip the tank going through the tight corners. Are you able to transfer your old heat shield kit underneath your new seat? To be honest with the thicker material on the new seat, this will soak up the heat a little bit. I'm glad you still enjoy your 899 a beautiful bike, I've upgraded mine to the 1299s. Just as beautiful and fun to ride but with the extra goodies that I love ❤️. Safe riding 🤘🏻
Hi Andy , interesting to watch this . As others have mentioned it might be an idea to fit high (er) rise bars . I have a `98 R1 and found the bum up nose down position did cause me some grief ( I`m not as supple as I used to be ) , main problem was having to force my head up at 90 degrees to see where I was going , causing neck ache...Fitted Gilles Variobars which greatly helped with this...Also fitted a Lust Racing suspension lowering link which knocked about 30 mm off the seat height...something like that would help counteract the increase you have with the comfort seat . It is a shame you are put off using it more because of the comfort aspect...a couple of mods as above could mean you actually will enjoy putting some more miles on it .
I didn’t get on with the dp seat, I found it put more weight on my wrists as it tipped me forwards and gave me lower back pain, I think I kept it for about 200 miles then sold it on. If you find you are getting more wrist pain, bare that in mind as it definitely makes the weight on the hands more
This should be an Option when you Buy the Bike in the First place I fitted a genuine Comfort Seat to My Kawasaki and the original seat Has never seen the light of Day Since
Ducati, more especially the Panigali is a race bike with a few compliant road parts thrown on to comply with traffic regulations. not really suited to uneven, bumpy road surfaces, it comes into its own on good surface roads. but I'm sure you've noticed that..I owned a 900SS bevel drive in the late seventies it was just the same, although the suspension, apart from rear pre-load there wasn't much adjustability. On open smoother roads' it was wonderful, on bumpy roads it was a 'pain in the arse' literally !! Apart from sitting in your garage just taking in the beauty of this piece of Italian Stallion sculptured art..... A lifetime ago I once sat in a chair, Tea and 'Old Holborn'roll-up' in hand doing just the same with the 900 SS... probably best to stay away from bumpy roads.....Greetings from España
I despise that manufacturers (like BMW for me) make standard and "comfort" seats with the later as an option. So I took the stock standard seat, bought a high quality gel pad and shipped it off to a top notch upholstery person who specialized in motorcycle seats. They rebuilt my seat plus did a custom one off stitch pattern I wanted. For the same price as the factory comfort seat I got a super comfortable and sharp looking custom saddle. I went from my butt complaining after an hour to never complaining.
Have you thought about Bar Risers, put some on my Gixer600 K5 and you wouldn't know to look at them but they have Revolutionised the Comfort for me. They Raise the Height to just around 2 inches i think but at 5ft 8 inches, same as you, they are Perfect.
Wonderful bike! Picking a 959 up on Saturday! Hows the 899 been going for you? I see you've had yours for a long time! Also when did ya record this? Looks like its Winter time but released in July! Ride Safe 😊
Glad it’s made it more comfortable for you, I have to say sports bikes don’t appeal to me in the riding position or looks dept. Each to his own though and as long as you enjoy then that’s all that matters.
Lovely bike but as a fellow arthiritis sufferer, mines the neck, I’m amazed you can ride the Panigale and enjoy yourself whatever the seat. I’m picking up a new Multistrada V2S Friday, so much more comfortable but not quite as good looking, red of course😀🏍
Hi Andy, if it works it's money well spent, can't put a price on comfort, I will tell you something I learned for added saddle comfort on all your bikes is a pair of those gel cycling pants, they work so well if you have a bony bum, so to speak. I find for long days in the saddle even on your bikes with comfortable seats you are so much better after a full days touring, just don't buy the cheap ones make sure they are gel and not foam though. Thank you...
Hay mate because your shoulders are stuffed like mine and we both are 68 kids , have you through around bringing the bars up as well mate ? , I always get most of my bike seats modified. I SO love ❤️ the sound out your Ducati.
It definitely looks better than the standard seat for sure, the accent stitching really sets it off I think. It only needs a few layers of tin foil glued to the underside of it now, to help prevent the scrandanglies sizzling on a warm day :>)
it may not be "more comfortable" as the name suggests... but it looks cool and if it makes riding the bike a bit more pleasant then that's worth every penny 👍🏻
Nice vid & looks like a great product in every way. If you haven't already TMF it could be an interesting video to take the Panigale to a suspension specialist & get it set up specifically for you with an emphasis on comfort as opposed track/sport riding.
Ah!, the black art of 'fiddling' with the suspension. I visited a race bike preparation shop here in Spain to have my 2014 Street triple R 'sorted'. anyone who has owned one will know the suspension is hard or damned hard. having said that the guy asked Race Track or Road... Road I said, with enthuses on good handling for the twisties..After an hour or so and 50€ he transformed by Bike. One thing though. bumpy roads, although not bone jarring its better to avoid them if possible. Unless you have fancy trick active suspension Its always going to be a compromise...
Do you ever have problems with blocked injectors from not using your bikes on a daily basis, on the ones that you may not use daily I mean. Or do you take precautions to stop it happening ?
At 59 secs there appears to be quite a large gap between the seat and the fairings all round, is it the same with the factory seat? Almost looks like the seat needs to be pushed towards the tail more?
well I have no particular interest in a confort seat, as I dont need extra comfort and I dont own a ducati.... but I still watched your video and I am glad your bumbum is happy on the pani :)
" flippin' uncomfortable, very wristy, does your back in, the seat is hard and runs as hot as hell". Andy, Andy Andy. Why Why Why? Might be time to move on from the DucatI. I'm much older than you and I moved on from my Japanese Ducati, Suzuki TLR 1000, many years ago because I couldn't ride it for longer than 45 minutes or so. It was my 'dream bike' for a couple of years but I moved onto my ST1300 Honda and still have it 15 years later because it is such a pleasure to RIDE. :) I'm looking to downsize, in terms of weight, but I can't find anything that replaces the smile on my face every time I'm out on the ST. I enjoy your reviews so I won't be trading the ST in for a Panigale anytime soon. :)
At 178cm I find the Panigale 899 very comfortable with the standard seat and have done many 500km+ rides. I too, now have the 'comfort seat' but haven't ridden the bike with it on yet, so will be interesting. 😂 And I may be a bit more senior than your good self too. 🤣🤣 Also, I'm wonder if you have the suspension set up for the road. The Sachs shock needs the spring released quite a bit for the road.(79kg)
Suspension is set standard for track, read your book and back it off makes a huge difference .Will be finding some different clip on bars to take a bit of weight off wrists. (6ft 90kg).
@@TheMissendenFlyer at 73kg+gear that rear suspension must be killing you. 🤔 I have the Sachs preload spring at 10mm(17mm standard for road) Maybe need a vblog with a knowledgeable suspension person to set the suspension up for you as you'll be a lot lighter than the average rider 😊 I'm getting the suspension replaced on my 899 😁 as the front forks need better smaller diameter internals for better oil flow. 😁
I have had a comfort seat for 6 years. Its a little better than standard. But there again my Panigale is not going anywhere 🤗 Although watching you videos lately, I have a feeling you won't be keeping yours for much longer.
I have the v2 bought comfort seat which like u was much better but for 15 k this should be right in the first place had to put heat shield - not solved the shitty mirrors yet as rizoma bend back but still vibrate
An alteration: No "White Van Man" today... If the seat has gel in it (squishiness), it'll take about 500 miles to bed in to your shape. After which, it should be much more comfortable.
You buying a comfortable seat for this is like buying air con for 2 hot days in the year 😅😅 it's a shame it doesn't get ridden more ut when you do eventually sell this someone will be buying a very beautiful low milage machine that's been looked after
Bloody phones!! Looks good and pleased you are happy with your purchase but take pause....A HUNDRED AND NINETY QUID!! FOR A LITTLE BIT OF LEATHER, PLASTIC AND FOAM??? The price the bike is it should come as standard. Outrageous when you think about it.
That's a ridiculous bike for someone who's almost a grown up ! .... only joking , you make the most of it before you need a Marsh mallow on wheels like me! .. peace and love ✌ 💚
IMO that Pan-Ducati is an absolute stunner. Wow, when you nearly spun her up, that gal almost shines. (just kidding) Really don’t care about the seat, just enjoying the “high dollar ride-along”.
To me, there is no better upgrade on any motorcycle than a comfortable seat(if needed).
Seat looks great. It is always difficult buying things like seats, as they cost a lot but may not improve things for me as a rider. Glad that this seat has worked out well for you

@@veeken777 close enough! 👍
....brilliant...
That’s a pretty good idea! Thanks for the tip!
Hay mate because your shoulders are stuffed like mine and we both are 68 kids , have you through around bringing the bars up as well mate ? , I always get most of my bike seats modified. I SO love ❤️ the sound out your Ducati.
I've thought about it but aren't aware of any neat solutions to do it out there....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ok 👌 hopefully 🙏 you find something
It definitely looks better than the standard seat for sure, the accent stitching really sets it off I think. It only needs a few layers of tin foil glued to the underside of it now, to help prevent the scrandanglies sizzling on a warm day :>)
Yes I have the Panigale heat shield on mine, which helps the bike go from “F” hot to “V” hot….
You reckon you're getting your hands on a norden at some point? Would be interested in hearing your opinion of it.
No I'm not in a rush too no.....
Looks great Andy!
Thanks 👍
Skrandangles. Never heard that one. Nice quick review, nonetheless.
it may not be "more comfortable" as the name suggests... but it looks cool and if it makes riding the bike a bit more pleasant then that's worth every penny 👍🏻
Agreed!
Hi,
I think you would like the Supersport 950S.
Can you do a review / test drive ?
I ride the original supersport - not really my thing….
Nice vid & looks like a great product in every way. If you haven't already TMF it could be an interesting video to take the Panigale to a suspension specialist & get it set up specifically for you with an emphasis on comfort as opposed track/sport riding.
Yes that is a good idea!
No - I try and ride all my bikes at least once a month, never had a problem (touch wood)....
At 59 secs there appears to be quite a large gap between the seat and the fairings all round, is it the same with the factory seat? Almost looks like the seat needs to be pushed towards the tail more?
Must be a quirk of the camera - the fit seems fine to me!
I have already ordered a comfort seat and still waiting for delivery 😅😅
Put one on mine and it is comfier and looks great.
Is there a better looking bike out there?🤔
If there is I don’t know of it!
Well worth it if it works for you, nice video by the way👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
well I have no particular interest in a confort seat, as I dont need extra comfort and I dont own a ducati.... but I still watched your video and I am glad your bumbum is happy on the pani :)
Fair enough!
It’s all those things but I still love it Kevin - she’s a keeper!
Awesome review!
Thank you!
At 178cm I find the Panigale 899 very comfortable with the standard seat and have done many 500km+ rides.
I too, now have the 'comfort seat' but haven't ridden the bike with it on yet, so will be interesting. 😂 And I may be a bit more senior than your good self too. 🤣🤣
Also, I'm wonder if you have the suspension set up for the road.
The Sachs shock needs the spring released quite a bit for the road.(79kg)
Yes that may be the answer, perhaps I'll have a fiddle (I'm 73kg and have the shock still on it's original factory settings....)
Suspension is set standard for track, read your book and back it off makes a huge difference .Will be finding some different clip on bars to take a bit of weight off wrists. (6ft 90kg).
@@TheMissendenFlyer at 73kg+gear that rear suspension must be killing you. 🤔
I have the Sachs preload spring at 10mm(17mm standard for road)
Maybe need a vblog with a knowledgeable suspension person to set the suspension up for you as you'll be a lot lighter than the average rider 😊
I'm getting the suspension replaced on my 899 😁 as the front forks need better smaller diameter internals for better oil flow. 😁
I have had a comfort seat for 6 years. Its a little better than standard.
But there again my Panigale is not going anywhere 🤗
Although watching you videos lately, I have a feeling you won't be keeping yours for much longer.
Nah, mines a keeper - I just think it's one of the best looking bikes I've ever seen, I just love it!
@@TheMissendenFlyer 🤗
I hope the fires aren't effecting the flyers
So far so good thankyou!
Would like to see more rides on this bike
So would I!!! 🤓
I have the v2 bought comfort seat which like u was much better but for 15 k this should be right in the first place had to put heat shield - not solved the shitty mirrors yet as rizoma bend back but still vibrate
The mirors on the 899 are rock solid - no idea why they changed them to those rubbish non folding ones after the 899.....
Wear padded cycle shorts under your leather it makes a world of difference!
Not sure it looks better in truth. Don’t forget the beach bar upgrade so u can get that nice and comfy upright feel to go with it.. 😆
Do you know of such an upgrade?? Sounds great to me!
Such a beautiful motorbike 🏍 😍
It really is!
Just out of curiosity Andy how long can you ride the Ducati before it becomes uncomfortable ?
about 30 minutes and I'm ready for a rest....but it's a splendid 30 minutes!!
I love that bike!
Me too!
Have you ever taken it on the track? I think that's where it would be at home.
Yes several times (and I have the videos on here to prove it!)
I'm too old and intolerant for uncomfortable bikes these days, so any uplift in comfort is good.
That seat looks much better. I don’t think you will be riding a hot Ducati on a 40 degree day though !
I did think about it for about a femto-second
You're reaching 'That Age', Andy. We'll see how long you hang on to it???😀😀😀
As one who can only remember such discomfort, I sympathise.
Fingers crossed!
An alteration: No "White Van Man" today...
If the seat has gel in it (squishiness), it'll take about 500 miles to bed in to your shape. After which, it should be much more comfortable.
You buying a comfortable seat for this is like buying air con for 2 hot days in the year 😅😅 it's a shame it doesn't get ridden more ut when you do eventually sell this someone will be buying a very beautiful low milage machine that's been looked after
Tell me about it!
All you need to do now is fit a top box and then you can sell the Gold Wing.
Funny you should say that - se Saturdays video!
Looking forward to it.
Top box, Ducati, MultiStrada?
Can't wait!!
Money well spent, and it looks tasteful.
All you need to do is break the seat in…
So, let’s ride it some more…
If only I had the time Doc!! Must try harder.....
As a Ducati part 190£ is cheap… that the price of just a cover from most companies 👍
Yep agreed….
