Thank you for the video! I was able to turn the variable resistor to make it vertical and now my cd player is working! I struggled to find a tool that would turn it. I ended up using my finger to do it.
BIG thanks for posting this video... Was able to resolve the issue with my machine by cleaning the laser lens... Thought I would try that before adjusting the alignment. The suggestion on removing the cover of the CD unit helped as I could not see the lens through the slot. Thanks Again!!
This would likely just burn out the laser in a short time. Most Bose Wave issues have nothing to do with the laser, so it would be a shame to ruin it. Especially if it makes clicking sounds, it will be SMD caps that are the problem. Never use a power tool for the 5 screws. The plastic gets really brittle. Never use IPA on the laser head. Use spectacle lens cleaner on a q-tip. Never spray or drip anything into the laser optics. The q-tip should be moist, not dripping.
Yep I made the mistake of using a drill motor. Like u said the plastic gets very brittle. Also like u said its usually capacitors. U can replace the capacitor or the whole unit under where the disc plays.
Thank you for this excellent video. Player now works like new. Unfortunately I didn't heed your advice to lubricate the first screw and the screw receptacle broke off. The other 4 went fine with lubrication. Seems to do fine missing one screw however.
i Paid $512 for my presumed Bose Music Wave System 4 . This should NOT be happening and i should NOT have to take this FCKING thing apart to fix this issue SMH!!! I am almost positive they sent me a refurbished unit...
Does this fix work for updates too? I have an Update Cd but for some reason the set won’t recognize it! It traps it in the drive and I have to unplug it to retrieve it. To be clear the message says “Please Update” thanks for any help (Btw I have a Bose Wave 3 system)
Can you direct me where the ribbon plug goes? Your jand was covering it and I have the whole unit apart. I don't see the plug anywhere and ive been looking for hours. It popped off and I missed where it was plugged into originally. I'm going to need anger management shortly.
My fix was to reset the ribbon connectors between the CD player and controller. board. It took longer to disassemble the unit then to pull out the two ribbon connectors and reinsert them.
That's not a fix. It's running the laser diode past it's current specification. That VR is not to be touched after it leaves the factory. Doing it will drastically decrease the life of an already tired laser diode and a kind reminder, optical blocks for CD players aren't being manufactured anymore. So when it dies, kiss that player goodbye.
While I'm sure your comment is accurate and helpful, I wanted to provide my own experience. Having the same CD issue, I recapped the entire CD circuit board properly. I also greased, lubricated and cleaned the CD mechanism as needed. Unfortunately, the end result was the same as when I begin. As a last-ditch effort, I turned up the laser head pot ever so slightly as directed in the video. The CD player now works flawlessly so for me this provided lifespan that didn't previously exist. Who knows, maybe Bose shipped these out with the absolute lowest voltage set on the CD lens reader because the internal components appear to be high quality while a large amount of these units are having the same exact issue. I have much older CD players still working perfectly without any upkeep. Anyways, I just wanted to say that this solution of adjusting the voltage pot did work for me.
Liked how you continued to work on this... a little difficult to see what you actually adjusted..thanks for taking the time to post...
You saved me hundreds of dollars and a ton of frustration. Thank you!

I JUST FIXED MINES.... THANKS FOR THE INFO!!!

Thank you for taking the time to make this. Super helpful.

IPA is excellent. Whats the reason?

Can you used canned air to spray off dust?
sure
Huff away
legend, thanks for uploading this fix
I'll use your tips and give it a try.

I would love to see you fix a Blackweb model bwa16aa003. My grandson dropped a toy on top of the cd player and now it reads no cd.

ice cube tray - genius.

You are great at what you do. I would mess it up so bad. lol.

You hand blocks what you are doing.
Where do you live? May I bring it to you?
Made me totally ruin my radio! At least the radio worked before I followed directions from this video!
Lolol
Need someone to video so we can see your arms are in the way..
You have your arm blocking the view!
Really can't really see what screws you're turning with your hand in the way
Apparently the capacitors are not of good quality so if the lens isn’t the issue then the Cap’s are…………
Not happy I have just been told my lazer is faulty & need to replace it at $300 &5 years old
Für ein 1500€ teures gerät bekommt man von bose drecks qualität was die haltbarkeit betrifft..
Tossing the CD in the start of the tutorial indicates a reason your machine might be outof alignment if evrything is managed like that.
Too much background noise for a Demo video - - -
More your fiures so we can see

Why post a video that’s so useless. It’s like you decided to do a secret cleaning
Its not a cleaning issue, you need to adjust the variable resistor.
Lol ura🤡
