    Fantastic - thank you so much. I thought the CD drive in my 8 year old Wave III was terminally gone, but this fix did the job. I was getting the message 'Not readable' for every CD but this has fixed it! Very well presented and explained. Cheers!

    THANK YOU for making this video. Followed your directions, and It worked like a charm! Amazing how dirt and dust can build up inside of a device like this!
    Note… I took photos of the device as just before I disassembled each step. This came in handy after I re-assembled it and the disk would reject the CDs. Looked at the pics to discover that I had re-installed one of the covers slightly incorrectly. Pictures showed what it looked like prior to disassembly.
    Thanks again.. back in business!
    Cheers!

    Excellent, concise, and it worked on another issue my Bose CD player was having - not accepting/loading a CD. Taking it apart, cleaning it, and putting it back together WORKED! I also carefully vacuumed all of the dust as I know that can interfere with electronics And, yes, no background music necessary! Thank you! I'm back to blasting Andre Bocelli! Life is good!

    I recently purchased a AWRCC2 for $5.00 at a local garage sale, with the multi-disc changer. Had the same issue with it not playing a disc properly. Took 15-20 to clean out everything and put it back together, but it still had the same issue when I finished the job. Give it a day to rest and I tossed in a disc expecting the same problem, but it played like a champ. Tried a couple other disc with the same results. Great video, thanks!

    I just got through having to clean the lens on a Bose Wave System IV (the newer units being sold around 2015) and I can confirm that the CD drive assembly itself is identical to what is shown in this video for the System II version of the Bose Wave Radio/CD player. The exact same disassembly and cleaning procedures will work on a System IV player.

    Very well done video instructions. I recently picked up a Bose AWRCC1 at Goodwill for $8.65 in practically brand new condition. Took a chance as I figured something was probably wrong with it. That's usually why people donate (get rid of stuff) because it stops working and they don't want to screw with it or are not mech/elect. inclined. Radio played fine, but the CD would "freeze" for a moment (no music) every so often (counter wouldn't move but then would start again). Then it started where it would not play at all, just "DISC NOT READABLE". Followed your instructions to a tee. Tested it still open and it started to play again like it did when I first got it. Bought one of those CD/DVD cleaner disc and ran it multiple times. It's running better now (the best so far) but still sometimes "freezes" momentarily. Seems like it has gotten progressive better each time I run that cleaner disc through it. Another TH-cam video posting talked about adjusting a small pot on the board for optical alignment. Haven't tried that yet, any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again for your well done and very helpful video and I especially like your petroleum jelly idea to lubricate the screws.

      @@thespecialist786 Just to follow-up as it maybe useful to your audience. Craziest thing happened. I ran the disc cleaner a couple more times. Then placed Boston's first CD in the unit. It first started to do the same freeze and skip thing, but this time I let the entire CD play through. It started playing perfectly! I then put another CD in their and again it played perfectly. I'm not entirely sure what happened to fix it, maybe the gear mechanism was slightly "bound up" and it fixed itself by just playing through it's travel? But now it works great!

      @thespecialist786  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@midnight4u Thank you for the feedback, every unit is different and has different issue. The worm gear can jam if not used for a long time but I would say in your case it was the Laser that needed a little buff which the cd cleaner has done the job for you.

    Whenever my player starts having trouble reading some CDs or skipping tracks I turn it off, disconnect it from power and let it off for a while. Can't say how long, just leave it off and cool off for an hour (could be a temperature issue or some temp memory that needs clearing). Then, it works as usual, time is not cleared though. Try this before opening the unit and using liquids on the lens or scrubbing it.
    Edit: I own a newer version of this same Bose unit.

      Thank you for your comments, Please kindly subscribe to me channel. The issue is all these Wave units are based on the same design so the faults are very similar across most models. You have not said which model you own III or IV? You can try reseting the Wave system from the remote. This can be done by holding the Alarm Time / Menu button from the remote for a few seconds while the system is in ON postion. Then scroll through to reset, press 2 to perform system reset. For those who DON'T KNOW you should NEVER USE one of those CD/DVD lense cleaners ... think about something you WOULDN'T USE two or more brooms spinning 200 revolutions per minute (RPM) to wash your car would you? That's what those cleaning discs have on them ... a NORMAL audio CD player spins the disk 500 RPM at the beginning and slows to 200 RPM at the end of a full 74 minute length disc .. if it isn't full it will be spinning faster than the slowest speed it can ... remember these CD machines are optical and most laser assemblies are not sealed completely so another thing that happens is the dust and debris the brush(es) knock off are now flying all over the place and gets everywhere ... once that happens 1. The unit will not readily place ANY disc 2. Won't play any at all .... the best way is to take it to a qualified technician and he or she will take it apart and properly clean the linse ... the lense is a precision lense made from highly polished plastic and it is easily scratched even soft bristled brushes can scratch because of dirt and dust

    The cd mechanism in this unit is trash. It’s like a laptop cd mechanism, very delicate and prone to Esd shock. I tried using a cd cleaner with brush on it. And all it did was make the brush scrape the dusty surface around it, since clearance is so low. And it ended up ruining the laser head. So I replaced the cd mechanism, hard to find since they are obsolete. As well as the controller circuit board. and now it works great again. My advice is do not use a cd with a brush. Go through the trouble of disassembling them to access the laser and clean it with alcohol and a qtip. Boses worst mistake was getting g rid of the top loader cd feature.

      Hi, thankyou for your comments, that a easy fix. All you need is thick kitchen tissue and some alchol purfume.
      Spray purfume on the tissue, then wrap it on CD and insert it in the system but only insert it half way and hold it do not let go and pull the CD with the tissue in amd out a few times. Thats should cure it without openning the system.

    Sometimes it says "Not Playable" on a CD I know is good and plays fine in my other players. So, I put it back in the Bose and let it blink about 15 times and it eventually accepted the CD and played it. Possible dirty lens causing this delay?
    These Bose machines get weak after many years of use and become somewhat temperamental.

      @Barbara S Glanz - Thank you for watching my channel. I understand things sonetimes can go wrong way but please do not worry.
      Fix should be easy as 🥧 pie.
      How many ribbon cables did you disconnect. If it was the one for the clock just take it out again and turn it around and insert it back in. It most likely you have got the ribbon cable inserted the wrong way round.
      That should bring life back into your system. Also press the ribbon cables gently to make sure they are seated correctly.
      Hope all goes well!

    Interesting, but this didn't work. I was amazed about how much dust was inside - not because from household dust, but because of the deterioration of the green foam insulation on the wires over the top and to the back of the unit. I blew it all out but the CD is still skipping.
    There is a comment below about replacing the CD caps will look into that.
    Once again, the symptom is the CD plays but only a few seconds a time and it skips around.

    Thanks so much, I have just followed all your excellent Tutorial. My goodness the 16 years worth of dirt was really impressive. Unfortunately it's still not working properly. I noticed the roller had a ridge right in the middle like it was going to split in half. Is this normal, and if not, is it possible to buy a replacement roller?. It is accepting the disc, but not reading it at all. The dust was really thick over the circuit board so I tried very gently cleaning it with the alcohol and a cotton bud. The radio is not working now either. Please help if you can. Many thanks

    • @thespecialist786
      @thespecialist786  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let it dry, it should be fine. The ridge in the roller is normal. The disc is held from the edges of the roller. You may have put alchol on the wrong chip. Use a soft toothbrush and clean it again and let it dry before turning it on. Please susbcribe to my channel. Thank you so much.

      Well it's taken me nearly 6 months to get back to giving it another go. As I felt I had nothing to loose as nothing was working. The CDs were going in, but not been read just ejected again. I have done all the procedure as before and cleaned everything very carefully with a soft toothbrush. When putting the ribbon back in at the end, the harder blue piece of plastic attached to the ribbon, have become separate. Is that essential? I can't tell whether the blue bit just aids the ribbon going in or not. I can't work out whether when you put the ribbon back in whether the writing should be facing the front or the back. Will it be possible to put the ribbon in without the blue bit? Sorry this makes me sound really incompetent, but I'm normally quite good at mending stuff. Would love to hear from you if you think you can help. Or if it's now a lost cause.
      Many thanks Celia Rushin

That will work perfect for you. As its underneth you will not see the seal and the system will hold safe.

When I select CD mode and insert a disk, it displays the track and starts playing but it is skipping a lot. It sounds like it can play for 1/2 a second then pause, then another 1/2 second of music then pause... I was able to take the CD unit apart thanks to your video and I cleaned the lens with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I also cleaned the pinch roller. The cd player still does the same skipping. I tried several different CD's all with the same behavior. Skipping is worse on the first tracks, then plays a little better at the higher tracks. Does this sound like a bad laser unit?
