Great video! Playing Dirt 5 with it being a PS+ game this month. I’ve followed your recommendations and found myself winning every race lol. My favourite has to be the 80’s Rally - Ford RS200. Love the retro look, it sounds great and feels so fast compared to a lot of other cars in the game.

I've found some of the less competitive cars can be a secret weapon on certain tracks
yeah tbf I only did a few tracks, so like you said on some tracks some other cars might be better 👍👍
@@itsmeJUMBO Your list is really good, those cars are the most competitive (or second best) on every track. On the other hand, it's really satisfying to fight for the victory online driving an underdog.
For example, the Renault Clio, which normally is awful to drive, can be extremely fast at one or two tracks. Oh, and also a not so competitive, but good handling car can be a good choice for online races, as you can resist impacts or avoid problems easily.

After watching this video, I played a few races with various cars on various tracks investigating the cars' performance etc. Every car feels quite different and I think it depends on how a particular car resonates with the player who's driving it. It so happens that I can race almost every car for the podium if not the win 😊 just feel the car you're driving and be cautious of the terrain you're racing on and it'll be fine 👍👍

Well made video!! Looking back on this game I think it's clear the balancing between the cars is really weird. As a game designer myself I'm just really puzzled by their choices for this game tbh. You have one "prodigy" car in each category that's so good there's no reason to even pick any of the other cars, just save up your cash and buy it whenever you can, which you don't even have to worry about because this is one of the easiest games I've ever played. I think it would've been way better if each car in a category has a special strength that makes it worth using for specific events/tracks:
Car A is really fast but lacks in handling, so it's great for tracks with long straights.
Car B is great on ice but isn't that great on dirt, so it's useful on ice tracks.
Car C works wonders for corners but really lags behind in top speed, so pick this one for tight courses.
Car D is great for dirt, but doesn't have strengths on ice.
Car E is balanced overall, it's good for tarmac and tracks with a fair mixture of straights and corners.
And I would make sure the player can really feel the difference between each car, currently the cars in Dirt 5 are too similar and I barely noticed a difference when playing as them tbh!

Just got this game today and have been using the electric buggy in the super lite class. I thought it was pretty good and expected it to place higher, but will definitely try the Exocet.
It's very stable in its handling which is good but it just too heavy to be quick, if you get a chance try the Exocet and see what you think!! 👍👍

I’ve been playing DIRT 5 since I got for my birthday six days ago and I am absolutely *_in love._*
The only issue I have really is with all of the RWD cars, especially in the Rally GT category - they all want to spin despite proper throttle/gear control. I can’t push the cars to their limits because quite frankly they don’t even want to grip to *_anything at all._* You’d hear the wheels in the modern cars struggling for grip even on *_straights_* and it’s by far the most frustrating thing especially during online races because one small bump and the whole thing goes sideways. Not sure if throttle input is more controlled on the PS5 due to the adaptive triggers, but you’re better off racing with TC at low if you want to push the car without losing too much time and speed.
On the topic of RWD, it’s the reason why I dislike driving the pickups despite them being monsters. I would’ve driven the DBX but holy shit the car’s acceleration is basically zero to nothing.
For the Peugeot 208 Maxi, the only thing I dislike about the car is how unstable the rear-end is for a 4WD car alongside it’s drastic lift-off understeer. I started driving the Cosworth because of that.
Now for the Stratos, while I agree that it’s the top car in the Classic Rally category, the car’s suspension is very unstable - it loves bouncing around (really evident if you set the camera shake to high in the driving aids submenu). You need to be careful picking your line especially in mountainous tracks (like Lion’s Gate or The Redeemer) because one small uneven jump and the car basically gets sent to the shadow realm. It’s the reason why I started using the 911 SC/RS instead.
Also! What makes the Audi AI even better is that you can control the rear wheels! Most time trial records have drivers with the same car and I’m not mad, really. The car looks cool *_and_* performs like it!
And yes! I totally agree with the RS200! It’s my most favorite rally car next to the quattro S1. The car handles and performs like a dream and I’m glad we can use its iconic livery. Kinda wish we have Hoonigan liveries tho - it would’ve fit perfectly especially at Gymkhana events.
That said, love the video! I know a lot of people dislike DIRT 5, but I don’t.

I agree the RWD cars are very strange to drive on the tarmac, I'm not sure why it's like that either 🤷♂️🤷♂️ it's been a while since I played it but I don't remember the adaptive triggers much for the throttle but you could definitely feel it with the brake!!
The DBX is so disappointing I was expecting a lot more from that too, the Cosworth is great, I enjoyed driving that but I did prefer the EVO VI and you're right the Stratos can be a bit of a handful but like you said the Porsche is also great in that class too!!
Personally I think DIRT 5 is a really fun game and is great to chill out and play (on controller anyway, I don't have a wheel) but my biggest problem with the game is once you have done all the races in career there isn't much else to do. Online really isn't very good at all which is disappointing and there is no incentive to play the career again!!
@@itsmeJUMBO seems like DIRT 5 follows Driveclub’s physics because of Evolution Studios. RWD cars in that game drive similarly like how they do in DIRT 5 (slippery).
I have an incentive on replaying the career! At least in Red Zone since after finishing the last race (with AJ), Bruno and AJ will then appear in races events in that chapter. I’ve had a blast racing with them two in Stampedes, Rally Raids, and Land Rushes. Bruno’s seems to be really dedicated on racing because he’s always on the podium. AJ’s lagging behind tho but sometimes I give him a push because why not? He’s my mentor.
But yeah, I do other things to make DIRT 5 fun for me. Right now I’m doing time trials because online tends to get… well… pushy (literally).

For 90's rally i really prefer the ford escort because somehow i can complete all tracks on the game without using the brake or the handbrake

What I’ve learnt is that on most of these you can still win online with the lower cars (although it is harder), but the Laffite is OP.
Honestly I love the Evo in the Modern Rally. Get me on a Norway track and I will FLY.

No I don't have a wheel (will get one at some point!!) but that doesn't surprise me as it's definitely more of an arcade racer than a sim!!

The question is are you good enough? How fast can you be? Speed is not everything. Winning races is about overtaking, blocking, drifting, finding the best racing line. I can win by FIAT131. It's one that I made from the liveries they give you for the Stratos!! I just changed the colours to red and green and put some decals on it, so it half looked like the iconic Stratos livery!! 👍👍
