As a nearly 30 year old young adult; who has fished his whole life and continues to learn more everyday, I can proudly say the first lure I was taught to catch fish with was a jig. PawPaw always made the importance of hopping and leaving it in the water known. Seeing this simple video made me feel real nostalgic and miss the days when we were able to fish together. Thanks for the video Randy!

I had the pleasure of spending the day fishing with Terry Thomas as a co angler on Bull Shoals Lake in the old Central Pro Am circuit. Terry had a 3/8 and 1/2 oz jig tied on. Both were black and blue Aleron jigs with flippin blue Zoom chunks as trailers. The fish were post spawn and he was doing exactly as you described. Probably a little more aggressive since it was post spawn. The rod made a whirring noise when he popped up the jig. Needless to say he caught a limit and I learned a ton watching him. Great memories. Thanks.

Randy, I’m not sure if you go through and read all of these but if you do I want to say thank you.. I watch a lot of TH-cam fishing videos and I find that yours are the best and most informative. I live in north central Arkansas so a lot of the techniques you talk about work perfect for me. Wish you the best and hope your channel continues to grow.

Denny Brauer showed and taught me jig basics ( when BASS still allowed landing nets in tournaments)
Les Hiesler instilled the confidence ( a flipping stick was the only thing allowed)
Now I thank you guys for new tips as well as reminders.
    Thanks for the videos
    Tight lines and Godspeed

This is the type of info that is priceless to younger anglers into jig fishing or wanting to learn about bass fishing. Had an old head teach me the same thing when I became obsessed with jig fishing here in Southern KY in the 90s. Honestly hearing you talk about it was crazy how much it reminded me of hearing it from him. For what it's worth anyone into night fishing this technique is amazingly effective too.

Excellent tutorial Randy, I appreciate all your professional knowledge and expertise, I’ve purchased all about 2dozen of your jigs can’t wait to start fishing them, it’s about time somebody made a live rubber jig, so excited, just waiting for the water temperatures to come up in the panhandle of West Virginia.

Great video Randy! I need to put this advice to work. My issue is I’ve had so many fish caught on the fall that once I’ve pitched in and don’t get the initial bite I’ve already looked ahead to an even juicier spot to pitch to next! But I’ve been taking a lot of your advice and it’s definitely moved my game to another level these last 2 years. No reason to think this advice is any different. Thanks for everything you share bud it’s definitely much appreciated

I was doin this in taylor creek, got a 3lber that smoked the 1oz jig and chunck trailer ! I lost it due to my rod being too high to hookset,so I reeled hard, and the fish jumped off! Guessing my 1oz was thrown..😅 but it generated a good reaction. Thx Randy

I absolutely suck fishing a jig, I can honestly say I've never caught a jig fish! Sad to admit but it's true. I've caught bass on wobble head jigs. I have a couple football jigs I'll have try put them in water & commit some time to them with your advice. I can catch fish on big swimbaits but not a jig!?? Much appreciated as always

9/10 times the biggest bass i've caught were caught on this technique and probably half of those were doing it unintentionally i.e. snagged on a limb or halfway wedged in a fork. They will absolutely hammer a jig to keep it from getting away from them.

Hate jig fishing. When I see jig fishermen, they are amaters to me. Sorry. That's how I feel, not bthat they don't catch. They're terrible fishing lures. Sorry if I hurt feelings.

Meanwhile, a large majority of pro fishermen win tournament after tournament using jigs. But hey, jig fishermen are amateurs, am I right? Dude, you aren’t hurting feelings…you are embarrassing yourself.
