This game will forever be remembered as a game chock-full of accuracy to the 8-bit age, good versus evil, love, and a hero with an unlikely weapon, and above all, incredible chiptunes. God bless the creators of this game- no, this WONDER.
I read in a magazine they are gonna bring the game to ps4 (or maybe ps3, or even xbox, but i'm not sure), and sony pretends to put Kratos as an optional boss. That's what I read anyway, don't know if it's true, can you confirm for me?
I don't know, but I seriously doubt the Kratos thing. Where would they even put him in?
Michael Belcher He'd be a bonus boss, just like the fan-director characters. And it's totally happening, by the way. There's going to be an Xbone version as well, featuring the Battletoads.
I imagine it'll more likely be remembered as being extremely confusing to people researching video game eras.
The funny thing is it's way less accurate to the 8-bit era than many other "retreux" games in almost all of its areas: gameplay design, difficulty, colors and color limit, animation quality, and even its music and sounds.
The game still stands out above the more "accurate" ones because whenever there's an inaccuracy, it's a deliberate decision for the sake of making a good game. In other words, rather than picking features and styles that are accurate to the era, the devs instead made a game accurate to the _nostalgia_ of the era. They included all the quirks of graphics, sounds, and gameplay that we're fond of and fill us with good memories, but _not_ those that we usually don't remember because they were frustrating and dumb. Make no mistake -- it takes a _remarkable_ artistic eye to nail the nostalgia in every facet of the game, and the result is both more impressive (I think) and more _satisfying_ than something that is _totally_ accurate to the NES games of old.
Just goes to show that accuracy isn't everything when it comes to paying homage to fondly-remembered works!

This music was one my biggest joys in traversing this game. You have no idea how many times I've visited the bard just so he could play me songs. Every music sheet I encountered was the biggest and best treasure to me. :D
I know right? I swear half my play time on this game is just listening to the bard play the soundtrack for me.
As an aspiring composer who also likes chiptunes, this level of amazingness is my goal. I haven't had a chance to play this game yet, but I truly admire this beautiful soundtrack!

i love how the boss music is heavily modified verions of the area music, also, this is the best use of annotations for an OST
I went here, heard this STUNNING AWESOME soundtrack, and that made me buy the game!
The soundtrack is even better than that of the later 8Bit Mega Man games. Awesome!
To be fair, no NES music could beat this soundtrack because, as found there yachtclubgames.com/2014/07/breaking-the-nes/, it uses a special VRC6 sound chip which was used only in several Konami games toward the end of the NES era. And worked only on the Japanese Famicom.

Absolutely love this OST. I got into video games quite a few years after the age of 'retro' games, so I was never exposed to these types of soundtracks. So despite not having any true nostalgia for this type of music, I still love it! I think that says a lot for the Shovel Knight OST

In the Halls of the Usurper is probably my favorite. The whole soundtrack is amazing.
The Apparition (#36) and La Danse Macabre (#35) are 2 of the best songs I've heard ever in a video game. These are from the Lich Yard stage and boss fight. I like the Apparition (boss fight) just a tad better, as it is a more powerful, upbeat version of its stage theme counterpart.
Strike The Earth (#4) is a VERY close second.
This game and soundtrack brought so many memories back and made me feel like a kid again. Long live the nostalgia with this one!!

This soundtrack is truly spectacular, and so is the game! I've only been playing it for a month and I'm already obsessed with it. Strike the Earth and Waltz of the Troupple King have been playing in my head constantly ever since. I thank all the creators of Shovel Knight for bestowing this 8-bit goodness upon us.

It's a really good tune. But different people have different tastes. I go for tunes that are melodic and catchy. which others go for the techno-esk sound in their chip. Preference is the word of the day!

This soundtrack is seriously bang for your buck. 48 tracks, about 2 hours worth of music, for however much you want to pay Jake Kaufman? That, is seriously awesome.

I'll say that the undertale OST is also great. it has the same length (>2 hours) but shorter tracks and no double/triple runs of the same track (even though sometime it needs to IMO. with 101 tracks and done by a sound designer by trade, it's also a good listen!
Undertale's OST is pretty amazing. The game doesn't look like something that suits my interests, but the music sure does.

Gender Neutral Chibi Thing oh, the game itself is clearly different than SK. I wouldn't sell it as an RPG, but more of a puzzle+bullet. as an RPG undertale isn't that good, but the story was very entertaining!

For some reason, Shield Knight's requiem made me really, really sad every time it came on and you had to catch her in your dreams. And when he ACTUALLY caught her at the end of everything, I legitimately almost cried. Also love how the last several tracks of the game are dramatized and remixed versions of Shovel Knight's and Shield Knight's themes, redone to match their emotional and physical state at present. My favorite is Inner Struggle
