Fun fact: Darren Korb produced all the music for the game before most of the levels were made. Supergiant built all of the levels around Darren's Soundtrack. It explains why the environments and the music fit so well together.

TBH I've always felt like this is the best workflow. Music is the hardest thing to pin-down and its the thing that affects humans the most with the least amount of setup (compare to dialog having to set up for minutes/hours). If I had the money to try and make a proper indie game this is probably how I'd try to go about it.

because the songs weren't written to just help tell the story, they were written to make the story complete. they tell you a history of a world since broken. these songs hold more meaning then just to play in the background as you explore the world of this game, they play in the foreground reminding you that a story should make you feel, and damn if they dont make you feel. thats the feeling i get from this sound track, a sense of making you want to live this story over and over.

In Case of Trouble: Perseverance and steadfastness through a pleasant melody
Bynn the Breaker: So nice it plays twice
    The Sole Regret: Depressingly lit
Twisted Streets: Flute + Percussion + Techno Sounds = Yes
    Terminal March: STRESS INDUCING AWESOMENESS
Percy's Escape: Same as Terminal March but with more xylophone and violins
Faith of Jevel: Hauntingly beautiful yet there's something wrong
Mine, Windbag, Mine: Pickaxes have never sounded so awesome
Slinger's Song: We're reaching levels of cowboy never thought possible
Build That Wall: The essence of Supergiant Games, it started here
Spike in a Rail: Funky banjo and harmonica go brrr
What's Left Undone: Unsettling as hell
Brusher Patrol: Best instrumental track in the game
The Mancer's Dilemma: Ominous string plucking goes hard
Mother, I'm Here: A melancholic yet nostalgic tender farewell
Pale Watchers: Droning and off putting but in a good way
The Bottom Feeders: EXTREMELY FITTING BOSS LEVEL MUSIC
From Wharf to Wilds: Depressing and empty suddenly going hard as hell

Bastion is really a comfort-game for me, it's kinda like an escape, a little safe space. I just finished playing it for the second time and had such a big smile on my face when Setting Sail, Coming Home started and Rucks spoke his last lines♡ I love, love, love this game♡

@@jarlofwhiterun350 Well I played it a few weeks ago for the first time, along with Transistor (gonna play Pyre soon too) after having played Hades for the past few years. I decided to play Supergiant's previous games in preparation for Hades 2. What should that make me feel like then?

I feel the game is overrated (note: overrated doesn't = bad, it means it's rated higher than it should be by fanboys). It's a good enough game to play though and honestly I only kept playing because the soundtrack is awesome.

an overrated game is skyrim. Bastion has good combat, a simple but effective story because of the great narration and it has a great soundtrack.
How many games have 1 unique (and good) feature?

    • @CommentFanatic
      @CommentFanatic 9 ปีที่แล้ว

***** There's literally too many to name. Dust: An Elysian Tail, Child of Light, To the Moon, Flower, Journey to name a few. Like I said, overrated does not = bad. I just feel it didn't live up to the hype surrounding it. Even some of the games I named I feel were overrated but extremely well done games, just like Bastion. Whereas some of them were rated exactly how they should have been. Just my opinion.
P.S Just like how you say Skyrim is overrated (which I agree with but others will surely disagree), I'm saying Bastion is overrated.

If you still havent played this game.. yes you should buy it. If you're unsure you can try out the demo. Honestly the best parts of this game are largely subjective: narrator, music, art style. All the artistic elements, basically. So I can't really guarantee 100% you'll like it, but I'd say there's a damn good chance you will. It's an awesome game that deserves all the praise and success it can get. If asked for an example of "video games as art" I would point to this and SuperGiant's other game, Transistor.

It`s magic everyone has a place in the world. Someone does movies, someone translates texts, one suffers, one dreams, someone fights in the war and, maybe, writes poems, or soundtracks to movies. Inspiration to live never goes. Warm we, worm world)
