- This video features a cognitive-behavioral therapy counseling role-play in which the Premack principle is applied to address a weight loss goal. The Premack principle states that a high probability behavior can be used to increase participation in a low probability behavior.
I’m currently battling with weight loss and motivation and discipline is my main problem to why I can’t lose weight. Thanks for this video!!!
This was a good video I like how Dr. Grande got her 1st to think about losing weight in smaller increments to make it more achievable and also starting the activities on a smaller scale building up motivation to do better

what a great topic. it reminds me of a child being rewarded at school with stickers for doing good work. I think its an excellent idea to reward ourselves when doing well

I like the way they pinpointed a certain time each day. I also like the idea of daily rewards and achieving small goals. I think that recording daily and looking for a pattern will also be helpful to her. She seemed to like that idea as well.
A simple example of using reinforcement to increase a desired behavior. I would want to have the client establish what her definition of a successful day is and agree that she would put off her reward if she did not reach her goal, but a good place to start to demonstrate the use of the Premack principle.

Love your work Dr Grande. I like the reward suggestions but in her case, the reward cannot be a nice tasty treat. Well maybe it could be when you have an empty stomach ( that is debatable) When I abstained from gambling I used to reward myself with a gamble. Yes , you have to be careful

Bayan, the Premack Principle is a Behaviorist technique that provides incentive for incrementally reducing or changing maladaptive behavior, i.e. the four phases of five pounds to equal 20 pounds, and the reward that comes after a healthy day. Most notably, the Premack Principle helps identify patterns in unhealthy choices, and would be evidenced by the client's use of a journal. Does this clarify it for you?
I can see how the Premack principle works. Since the weight loss is broken into smaller units, it is more realistic. The client can reward herself with a recreational activity on a daily basis, which is more likely to be effective, not necessarily lasting. However, it serves as motivation to keep to her plan. Recording the outcome serves to additionally reinforce the behavior with personal appraisal and accountability.
Very well explained, Wanda. Losing 5 pounds could be the small victory to lead to another 5 pounds. Success in increments.
sir i had stuck in confusion. if suppose we select cell A1 =now() and cell B1 given time 18:00 how can set to minus all time A1 is now time is 06:00am and how can countdown this values? after complete time msg come to what i written in Cell C1 Like "Your countdown complete" is written in cell C1. one more thing and auto every second minus to my value what i written B1 cell.
