Yeah, speaks for his charater but one can easily overplay this in a story.
but somehow, it never gets boring. I think that's so cool.

I for one love Wyatts heraldic shield
Now that is one I can get behind all the way!
For anyone who is interested the staples are a genuine Heraldic device, they represent old fashioned heavy staples not the things from your desktop stapler, by having two of them you get a classic heraldic play on the holders name - Staples.
@davidorf3921 My mother had a silver ring with her family's heraldic shield on it. The shield had two ermines on it, because one of her/my ancestors brought two hundred lancers to the first crucade.
So Wyatt is no longer a poor commoner, I do hope the ladies give him some really good advice on keeping hold of at least most of his money.
Somehow I doubt they will let him go to the galactic version of H&R Block.
Mostly likely, after all Clara doesn't want her new personal knight and hero to squander his newfound wealth. It wouldn't reflect well on Clara with him in debt or stuck in poor business dealings.
I wouldn't be surprised if Wyatt ends up investing in a FTL communications network to get perks in using it, so he can more easily communicate with his family in Volantis.
@@Soundwave119 My bet he probably investing in bug(forgot the name) farming industry at his home world. Become the biggest bug exporter in the Empire, ala Forrest Gump and his shrimping business.
Duty may be the greatest reward , but Im glad to hear it's not Wyatt's only reward .

approximately 10:am I started listening to a story called Black Ship bk 1 . I retired at 4:07am the next morning. My time was
not wasted.Being a retired college instructor, I’ve enjoyed following the process of the main characters evolution. This story touches on basic principles of tradition and modern culture. We need to be reminded that, 1.5 million years of evolution tempered with tradition is what allowed us to be here today. Wyatt’s role as knight errant,Carla’s role as damsel in distress,is every young man’s dream. Her time is short to help form her man into the man he wants to be for her, tradition. Thousands of years of tradition that worked for mankind. I keep hearing and seeing young women today railing at the top of their lungs “ where have all the good men gone “ the answer is simple, you quit making us. Here is the best example of a blueprint that I have seen in a long time. I find it tragic in order to find it I had to read science-fiction. As far as the story goes it is well written. Highly evolved and involving. Engrossing
I've not followed all of the comments from every chapter so this may have already been discussed. I'm curious about something. Have any hypotheses been presented regarding what seem to me to be similarities between Jincho's ability to hack Wyatt's helmet and the ability of the security officer on the Draymore side to communicate with Frederik Anderson while he was in custody? It may be nothing, but has piqued my interest and curiosity.

Wyatt telling his parents while good, will be dangerous. If word spreads about him and his achievements and who his family is, wont they be in danger?? I suppose it depends on the location of his home planet and if it is close to any of the Cayston forces.
I was expecting him to faint soon but out of all the reasons it would happen, a sudden and extremely drastic wealth increase? That caught me off guard 🤣
Dude went from only having a single nickel to having twenty vaults the size of skyscrapers filled to the top with gold bars in an instant.
It took me a moment to figure out why the big bux - prize money. Capturing and renaming the Noirnavio turned out to be a VERY big deal.

Yep, Wyatt got 6 million credits as his prize money 💰 for helping capturing the Samuel's Glory. Poor Wyatt suffering at the weird sense of humor of both Clara and Cynthia! 😂

The Black Ship is an Outstanding story one of the best sci-fi story I have ever heard. I would put in the same category as Dune, Star Trek, and The Expanse. This is truly an amazing story. A must listen to. I have listen to this story at least 9 times. I had rather relisten to this story than watch TV.

Well what a bonus catch up with part 1 this afternoon and now part 2 . I'm really enjoying this story and the narration is spot on almost feels like we are actually there with them . Great writing keeping the story on edge and hidden until needed . Hopefully wyatt won't faint too often lol..

I am glad you SciFi Stories properly rewarded the writers who write new content, especially the writer of the Black Ships.
Interesting to hear that both the Principality of Astor and the Hierarchy are at least 2000 years old. More interesting is the truth behind the bad blood between the 2 nations is highly classified, that not even Wyatt a personal knight of Princess Clara can be briefed on it.
I am not surprised that Wyatt felt dread seeing Cynthia with the big metal pole. 😂 Interesting that the pole has part of some noble/royal tradition.
It's nice to get another Clara pov showing us her thoughts of her current situation. Not surprised Clara is very happy so good can out of this in the for of her true friend Wyatt 😊. Good to hear from Admiral Joaquin Finigan the situation of the loyalist forces in Finigan territory.
I do like seeing the stress of the coup is taking on Clara and her needing Cynthia give her a back rub. It was funny 😁 how Wyatt complains about his banner training. It's good to hear why Wyatt needs to know how to properly use a banner in a Royal/noble procession.
I do like how Wyatt gets annoyed with Cynthia trolling 🧌 him and Cynthia has bit of decency to show some embarrassment. I am glad the data chip he got in chapter 29, having examples of Heraldic Shields 🛡. This way it made Wyatt's job making his Heraldic Shield way easier.

It means alot when the author responds to my in depth reviews whether it's here or on fanfiction net. It helps give me my reviewing muse fuel to continue. This story is the first time I have done indepth reviewing on a story on TH-cam. All the previous times I have been doing them were on stories on Fanfiction net.
I do like how you break down most how Wyatt's new wealth. Interesting that Wyatt's new rank has him getting a monthly pay check that's 5 times his old rank.
Poor Wyatt suffering at Clara's wims enjoying him passing out when something too awesomely good happens to him, like suddenly being a muli millionaire! I'm guessing that 6 million credits is prize money 💰 for helping capturing the Samuel's Glory.
I do like how Cynthia scolds Clara for doing this to Wyatt and how she probably will be the death of Wyatt. Clara respond with her singiture "Shush you!" and proceding to point out that Cynthia also was enjoying Wyatt's reaction! I am not surprised that Cynthia was embarrassed that she found enjoyment from that and refused to admit it!😂 I do like Cynthia tells Clara she has to teach Wyatt how to properly budget his new wealth.

Wyatt has NO idea what he gets into - and the Princess is not telling him (nor is Cynthia). She has 4 banners with her - royal marines and Astor you can forget. So, it is HIS and WInfield - it does not get more elevated. I wonder what the Author makes out of that because he is in for a lot of crazy. His not even properly founded noble house has now been elevated to one of the major important houes for anyone that wants access to the Princess. He will have to decide fast on how to position his house - and he needs a heir. He can delay that for a short time, but - he may not be a higher noble, but his house has weight. LOTS of young noble will be offered to him - and he has no idea how to navigate this nightmare. And his new life - he will wish himself back into a cockpit often enough.
Let me guess that most of the money is prize money - after all, he should have a claim on a share of the value of the captured ship. And it definitely makes him rich beyond believe - it is likely small change for a "real" noble (i.e. established house etc.) but for him - it must appear as insanity.
Agree with pretty much all of this, but I think those prospective nobles daughters will be kept at bay by Cynthia or even Clara herself, Clara clearly has feelings for Wyatt, even if Wyatt has no idea of that right now, until that is resolved I think Cynthia will keep Wyatt safe from predatory nobles daughters, also if he does not end up with Clara due to politics then I'm not going to be surprised if he ends up with Cynthia.
If we are being realistic however unless some sort of really unusual situation occurs I don't think there will be any "romance" until at least the Duke Draymor situation is resolved, Wyatt just will not have either the time or opportunity until then
@@davidorf3921 Oh, they will cover for him - but he will be affected even before the end because of official functions as he is preparing for now. I actually wonder how extensive his family is - nieces? - and where he ends up at the end of the war. Falling houses will be plenty, so lots of titles and land to go around. Would not wonder if he ends up with some sizeable assets and titles. After all, Loyalty may be it's own reward, but in times like this, Loyalty is generally rewarded.
The romance situation will be - interesting. I am not sure how this will resolve - but I generally trust this author to think things through.
@@ThomasTomiczek Oh I agree I very much doubt he's going to stay a mere Knight Banneret, likewise I think that Maybe Galt will find that perhaps he gets advancement over less loyal parts of his family, Clara essentially told him you do good by me and I'll see you and your family (and those crew he bought with him) are all right when this is done.
I am not going to be surprised if we see the odd young noblewoman being nudged in Wyatt's direction by her parents only for her to find Cynthia loitering near Wyatts door asking if the young lady is lost...
The Winfield family apparently has a reputation of being very protective of the Astor's family, Wyatt is effectively part of that family and Princess Clara is not going to allow any minor or even major family to interfere with whatever plans she has for Wyatt
Also whilst I would not be surprised to find Wyatt getting appointed as a much more senior noble in charge of one or more planets I could see him appointing his family as Stewards (with advisors to help them) whilst he stays out in space perhaps with Princess Clara as some sort of roving team restoring order or fighting off Drazzan etc.
@@davidorf3921 I actually wonder - was it ever mentioned what Cynthia has as a rank of nobility? Her house is important - yes - but where does SHE stand? Own title? Where in the inheritance chain?
@@ThomasTomiczek Good question, as a noble house she is "!Lady" Cynthia which is in her case effectively equivalent of a knight, but as with Wyatt there is more too it than simply title, she is also Princess Clara's friend and advisor, thus she has an immense amount of influence. As we have already heard the amount of influence you have is very important, thus Wyatt in rank is beneath the Baronet but in influence right now he's probably not just a little higher but significantly so, he got away with countermanding Clara's orders which suggests at the very least that she is listening to him and respecting the things he says (not that many people know this detail though) Technically both would be classed as members of the Privy Chamber, that is not the toilet, but rather says they have access to the Private Royal apartment, something that only the most trusted staff are granted as they could in theory assassinate the royal and escape with that sort of access.
Historically the immediate servants of kings and queens were almost exclusively members of noble families, sometimes quite senior members, any such members were usually single and were traditionally regarded as a very good catch. Often a ladies maid to a royal house with a decent amount of service would be granted a wedding gift of an estate or other significant grant on their marriage so were seen as quite the catch at court.
And yes Wyatt is clearly not going to realise his new position right now unless Cynthia or Clara tell him, cue multiple young nobles daughters trying to get his attention

I am so glad I subscribed to this channel, as an original 2000AD subscriber in the 1970's this is almost the same pleasure to read, but surpasses it because it's daily, not a weekly comic. As a Brit I find this impressive. Thank you for all your efforts.

Clara's favorite catch phrase "Shushyou!" but only uses it when among people she likes and trusts. 😊

thanks for part 2. it was well worth waiting for and very much enjoyed like part 1
Couple things here:
1. He thinks he has enough money for a couple minutes of a video call with his family (before Clara gives him the gut punch of a reveal that he's loaded), when all he'd have to do probably would be say "i want to see my parents" and she'd most likely either give him a full day of time using the highest quality video feed, hands his daily brought to him, or last but not least, divert the whole royal family (and fleet) all to go visit them on his homeworld.
And 2. I really enjoy seeing the mischievous side between the two ladies having their fun spoiling the poor boy in so many ways. (And part of me wants to say that Clara is torn between wanting to marry wyatt herself and marring him to cynthia)
In one of the earlier chapters comments several of the readers including myself suggested that at some point there could be a visit in passing to Volantis homeworld and a scene with Clara, Cynthia, Wyatt and Wyatt's mother quietly sitting in Wyatt's family home having a peaceful knitting session, whilst meanwhile a dozen Royal Marines outside ensure no interuptions

Thank you for another enlightening chapter. It had been a few chapters since Wyatt fainted. He has been thrust into the heights of the Nobility with his banner to be included with the official roster of Princess Clara. If life couldn’t get any more stressful for our hero, he now has wealth beyond his wildest dreams, which will more then likely grow in orders of magnitude as time goes on. I am looking forward to the call home and eagerly awaiting the reactions of his family . A few short weeks ago, Wyatt was a warrant officer commoner . Now he is an officer in the Royal Navy, who has been a noble by the prince himself and now a millionaire. 😎😎😎

How good the chapter was. What’s Wyatt going to do with 6 million credits. Send a million home? Obviously he must set a house up, save for marriage. Otherwise he can invest some and have some fun.

Erin-Thor, of course. The authors been pretty straightforward in the power structure. Cynthia got Wyatt’s credit. There’s only so much Wyatt can do, raise in his lifetime. Cynthia may be an option and Wyatt is attracted to her as well. Clara will have to marry for power, she knows it. Or not marry at all
I’m good either way but it may be neither. Hell we are 30 chapters in and only a week or two have gone by. Great story

This book is getting to be better and better. Great book, similar to Jack Campbell and Ian Douglas and others that I listen. Well written and good characters and the story is great. From beginning to now a book that is hard to put down and I love science fiction and I am very picky regarding my books.

Its about to be a real akward call to his family. He is a nobel they are not. Unless the writer has other planes considering wyat has close ties with the royal family im sure his family is secured or would be easy targets

Do a chapter where he calls his parents and informs them that they are now lesser nobles because of his actions. First disbelief then realization.

Technically the parents and his siblings are still commoners, however I'm pretty sure there will be a status increase for the parents, once it becomes known they will probably start to get minor nobles with eligible daughters visiting because marrying a Knight Banneret of the Royal House is going to increase that house status. Assuming Wyatt does not end up with Clara or Cynthia.
I still hope for the visit another reader suggested previously, where we see Wyatt introducing his mother to his two knitting partners and all of them sitting around Wyatt's home knitting, whilst a dozen or more Royal Marines stand outside ensuring no one disturbs them .

No, the author writes each chapter in real time. As soon as he finishes, he gives it to me to transform it into a video, and I do that sometimes the same day.
