    Great info Chris! Thanks. Built my manometer and used 2-stroke oil for the fluid. Figured if it flowed into the engine it couldn't hurt anything.
    Keep smiling, wrenching and RIDING!

    I'll be checking my throttle sych today. I have Twinmax and Carbtune. i plan on verifying the results on both. I first bought the Carbtune from Beamer Boneyard. Then I saw the Twinmax on a video. It looked cool so I had to have it as well. Chris, I would love it if you made a more detailed video about throttle bodies including when and how to rebuild them.

    I wasn't looking for how to sync my bodies, I always figured I'd leave that to my highly respected BMW mechanic. But now I've got a Carbtune Pro on order from BeemerBoneyard and looking forward to tuning. I used to tune my R/100RS "on the fly" so I'm pretty confident, especially with this video I'll be dialing it in. My current R1100RT runs great now, but I figure since I'm in the middle of the clutch job (again, thanks, great video on that subject!) I will need to be seeing about my cables since they've probably gotten stretched a bit in the process of lifting the sub-frame.

      Nah, your cables are worn out from use; 25 000 miles at best. Good luck with your new carbtune ;)

    hey my brother..fantastic job and explanation. as a 60 year old south shore boy living in germany it was nice to watch the explanations in a more civilized accent. i'm the current owner of three machines in germany (BMWs 97 r1100gs, 2001 r1200c and a 2004 r1150 rockster) ond one yamaha fjr 1300 stateside. I sync my twins with vinyl tubing with at fluid, works fine but you convinced me with the boneyard syncer for my fjr as they sell the 4 cylinder model for just over a hundred and with the homemade thingy the process is simply too laborious, first set sync, second pair sync, then one of each and hope for the best. thanks for the wisdom from down east.

    Great to see you back at it! I'm about to do this on my R1100rs this weekend with my Twinmax. It would appear the Carbtune is a little more accurate?

    l watched all the episodes of this series.... OMG.. you are rock and top man...!!..Thank you for sharing your precious knowledge and advice with us. BTW l have r1150 r rockster and l have a tips for the boxer riders too, l replace the primary stick coils with the classic ones. more stable and far from overheat . No more melted coils or open risk to the side crash . So l hope that you will keep adding your videos on you tube forever .cheers..:-)

    Good on ya cob. Just what I needed to see, seeing as I just replaced the throttle cable on my GS & its running like crap. Idles nice but open the tap & ... fuck ! Been thinking this might be the issue. Thanks heaps mate.

    Great video as usual, Chris. I just finished up a valve adjust & tb sync on my 2000 RT this weekend. Bike is running great but now I have a ticking coming from what appears to be my right throttle body. Bike only has 54k miles and did not have the noise prior to the work performed this weekend. And thoughts??

    • @goober650NX
      @goober650NX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Check your throttle shaft bushes on that side for excessive wear. You might even see the shaft moving and jumping around if it's really bad and it's that movement that causes the ticking sound. Hope that helps.

    Choke (Fast idle) only pulling one side.. Pull the other one. On the original single wire models; yes. With the cable box; no. The choke cable pulls on a wedge which turns the wheel which both cables are connected to. That said, glad your back. :-D.

    • @ChrisR.Harris

    I have a 99 RT 1100. I want to mount 2 large round & somewhat heavy PIAA lights on the bike, just as I see you did on this bike. Where do I get these brackets ? I don't want to drill into the tuberware. Thank you.

    Hi Chris I'm an owner of a 11:50 and I see you synchronize the carbs using the throttle on top and the screw on the side and I'm going to synchronize mine but what is the difference between those screws and thank you for all the videos they are good.

    • @ChrisR.Harris
      @ChrisR.Harris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Difference between which screws? You have a brass airscrew in each throttle body to set your idle. Set the cable freeplay and balance the cylinders.

    Nice to see you playng Chris, i use a carbtune on my 1150GS (twin spark).
    The bike havo no modification, original muffler, catalytic on, original air filter and so on.
    I experienced a idle oscillating , between 1150 to 1400 RPM, cyclical oscillation after riding for more than 30Km.
    I tried to solve it in the past by sync throttle whit no succes. I do the same you shown in this vid, exactly the same .
    While this issue was present, i try to solve it even by throttle body cleaning, replaced fuel filter (replaced fuel pump due the age of it), setting TPS (done in BMW), change sparks and, due a failure replaced both stick coil. No one of this solved the idle oscillatation.
    After last DIY routine maintenance (oil change, air filter, throttle sync), the problem disappear. At the moment i can't say what cause this bothering problem, and how solve it easly. What is your opinion? Why this can occur?
    Ciao ;))

    • @ChrisR.Harris
      @ChrisR.Harris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The last synch solved the problem?

    • @verticalgyno
      @verticalgyno 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Harris after last routine maintenance check, engine and gear oil /oil filter replacement cleaned the chain tensioner (removed installed LH throttle body without disconnect it from throttle cable) , checked the sync but i found it ok (did not touched anything). And yes after this, now stable idle ( Rpm indicator ) confirmed at 1150/1130 Rpm

    I have a BMW R1150rt in blue, (basically this model shown in this video) my bike fell on its side one day and when I picked it back up my bike wouldn’t start anymore… I checked the engine starter and it was cracked where it rounds out so I replaced it.. my bike still won’t start… any ideas??
    Thank you for these videos though, without these videos you provided I would have been fucked .

      Things to check after dropping one of these: Fuel connection at the quick disconnects if fitted with such. Stick coils can fail from a drop - test for spark. Good luck to you, Chris

    Hey Chris.
    When I'm doing this on my 02 R1150RS my RID shows 3 bars and the headers are freakin red hot.
    Is that normal? Freaks me the fuck out.

    • @ChrisR.Harris
      @ChrisR.Harris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, that's not normal. Make sure there is free-play at each throttle body cable.

    • @JayjayWalkers
      @JayjayWalkers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisR.Harris Thanks. I thought so. I've gone through this thing. Spline lube new clutch. Flushed clutch and brake system. New injectors. Now it's running like "poo"😂
      Idle problems. Twinmax says its synchronized anywhere above 2k rpms but idle is fuckin horrible. Left side 🤷‍♂️ . Air screw doesn't do shit. Cables are seated properly with good free play. I'm stumped 🤦‍♂️

    • @JayjayWalkers
      @JayjayWalkers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a GS911 coming so hopefully I can get some codes off of it. 🤷‍♂️Oh. I replaced the 02 sensor as well.

    • @JayjayWalkers
      @JayjayWalkers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got it running well. I think I had a bit of an air leak. Thanks for all your videos, Chris. Couldn't have done it without you. ;)

      Well after adjusting valves and syncing throttle bodies for the 3rd time I could get it running right. I bought a GS911 and my TPS is fucked.
      Another $200. Fuckin BMW. 🤦‍♂️
