Imagine being so much more powerful than normal humans and having them think they can treat you like garbage. I'm surprised Magneto showed as much restraint as he did.
He's clearly the good guy Magneto could rip the metal of space time out of itself This man can rearrange the molecular biology of an atom if it has any metal element inside it....Magneto is all powerful....not one bullet , tank, missile, or weapon can hurt him....... This is a metaphor with today it’s the SAME THING!!!!! People that didn’t get that god damn vaccine we’re ostracized. Or people that are conscious are labeled as conspiracy theorists. It’s the same things man
The Beyonder divided people into teams during Secret Wars based on their dreams. Magneto's dream was mutantkind living in peace, so he was grouped with the heroes despite his methodology.
Magneto has only ever been a villain through necessity when you think about it. The real villains in mutant lore have always been the humans trying to suppress them and the conflicts between the X-Men and other mutant characters was always born of their disagreement on how to achieve peace. The brotherhood doesn’t attack people just to be evil. They target military and political interests that are working against mutant kind as a whole and the only reason the X-Men interfere is to try and help with mutant PR. It never works though and mutants just get more and more hated by the general public and the leadership in charge. It was almost inevitable that the “evil” mutants joined the good guys and the good guys adopted the methods of the brotherhood. At the end of the day they’ve always been fighting the same fight.
+Smiley “Succmaster” Cat I will. All three of those characters are generic. Do you honestly think that something like "lost love" is really that unique? There are dozens of characters in the superhero genre alone that share that origin or motivation, let alone fiction in general. Apocalypse is just a looming threat, a pinnacle of power meant to be the "greatest" threat to the X-men, the same way that Darkseid is made out to be the greatest threat to the Justice League. He may have a lot of powers, but that alone doesn't make for an interesting or dynamic character. Both of which, Apocalypse fails to be. Mister Sinister is probably the closest to being a great character because he has a very interesting thought process and motivation. However, this is hampered by the fact that he is often portrayed as a cliché mustache twirling villain. Meanwhile, Cable is just your garden variety time traveler, who comes back from the past to try and prevent his future from happening.
Thomas Pierce Hm, I'm of a completely different mindset. A character, whether a protagonist or antagonist, who is just incredibly powerful and looks cool is a shallow character in my opinion. It doesn't take much effort for a writer to make a character cool and for that reason they don't often resonate with me. I would prefer to read about a character with a complex history and thought process. Things like looking cool or having godlike abilities isn't as important to me as making the character interesting first. I am more likely to read about a character like Lex Luthor (a businessman in a suit, who has no superhuman abilities) then say...Zod or Black Adam.
It kills me that the movies have had such a devastating effect in the Marvel Comics landscape. Marvel seems hell bent to expunge anything it doesn't own the movie rights too at the cost of literal decades of lore.

Marvel didn't own the rights to the X-Men at the time! They legally couldn't say Magneto was their father! Now Disney has bought 21st Century Fox, maybe we'll see them retcon this.
Making Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver not Magneto's children...uhg. The extents writers will go to to "mix things up" (ie cause needless drama) pisses me off sometimes. I've never commented on one of these videos before but when it comes to my favourite mutant...well...my hand was forced. I LOVED the Fatal Attractions Saga - this version of Magneto was my absolute favourite, Magneto is fantastic - by far my favourite super villain.
Why did you skip over the time when Magneto was hunting Nazi war criminals? It was, at least, partially significant because he was betrayed by his handlers when he found out that they were willing to completely look the other way for some Nazis as long as they could be of some use to the government. Making Magneto realize that the humans had no problem using him as a tool, then double crossing him, and trying to kill him when he had outlived his usefulness.
Maybe this is me reading too much into the movies rather than the comics but I think its interesting that Magneto seems to use a lot of language referring to mutants as a "race" whereas I think Professor X has a slightly more objective or scientific view of mutants as a "species". We are all one species that has been arbitrarily (and incorrectly) categorized into races. However in the Marvel Universe mutants *are* a genetically distinct subspecies of humanity, verified by decades (if not centuries thanks to Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister) of proven scientific study. Culturally and socially this "species" divide plays out in the comics in similar ways to issues of race and sexuality in the real world but the situation is fundamentally different on a basic level. Or is it? After all, in *both* worlds the Nazis still tried to exterminate the Jews during WWII based on an arbitrary definition of "race". Would the level of bigotry or moral panic really be all that different if there were objective proof? Our racists in the real world seem to be working fine without any. Bringing it back to Magneto and Professor X though, thanks to genetics "race" doesn't really mean what it used to mean fifty years ago. I wonder how that difference might inform on these characters and affect their motivations (particularly Magneto) as time goes on.
Scientifically speaking, most evolutionary anthropologists consider "race" and "species" to be analogues. The term "ethnicity" is the closest most anthropologists will come to any separation of humanity. The majority of the differences between humans are cultural, and not biological. In Marvel's reality, Mutants are not just a different species, but the NEXT step of humanity, evolutionarily speaking. This is where Xavier and Magneto's ideals differ. @@Yvqi72 -- If memory serves, XMen: First Class has Magneto explicitly tell Shaw that he agrees with Shaw's ideology - Erik's hatred for Shaw is purely personal because Shaw ordered Erik's mother killed. And the surprising part is that its not surprising - Erik was a little boy with superpowers growing up Nazi Germany. It would actually be weirder if he *didn't* grow up believing he was one of the ubermensch.
great video! magneto has always been my favorite villian and always will be... and despite that, I learned so much about him. thanks man. keep making these videos!
I know Bova was addressed in a previous video. I still think it's really cool that a sentient bovine midwife can be so easily be glossed over. There's just so much awesomeness in these stories that it can't all be explained at once.
I swear, they'll let Franklin stay OP, but Magneto can't be OP for more than a couple of issues. Going from Prof. X saying that his powers were limitless to barely lifting a truck....
i agree he's nowhere near what he used to be i was reading uncanny x-men vol 4 and he basically exhausted himself just by raising his shields to stop bullets
I can relate to him because how he relates to.others and the world around him changes as things change around him, and as his understanding changes. It's real cause it's not always better for everyone else, but he keeps it a lot more honest than when he was playing just plain mega-megalomaniac.
This was a great video, and just off point you are the only person I know that uses music that is not overriding the commentary. Nicely done. Thanks again.
Hmm, maybe, then again we have Doctor Doom who had a very sad and fucked up childhood and later when he became an adult his life became a total tragedy. Doom is Marvel's best villain hands down, and perhaps even the most tragic one considering that with his incredible intellect he could do so much good for the world if he wanted to. But Magneto is definitely my favorite Anti-hero.
Julian Thorn nah magneto had it way way worse... not just losing his parents but half of his daughters, his wife and even his ppl... ohh and not to mention they didnt just get killed, they got brutally tortured in front of him😭 as a kid, and loses his friends as well in the holocaust
When I was a kid, it was Magnetos' story that helped me understand why everyone liked the X-Men comics so much. We can all relate to discrimination on some level. Magneto is the ultimate abused child!
I followed the x-men for years, but I had a break at this time, and didn't really know magnetos backstory. It's a very good arc, although I'm surprised as now days this kind of arc could not be written. A sad statement on today's comic industry
Always loved Magneto & great video! He needs to not only be at his height but even beyond his previous abilities after the Magneto War in the late 90s!
If I’m not mistaken the whole Magneto helmet blocking mind reading was picked up from the live action movies and implemented into his comic lore. Cause that’s something that made sense as why magneto always wore a helmet.
crisode1 I hate fucking retards that don’t know basic English. Understandable if they don’t speak English, other than that, no excuse for being genuinely disabled.
magneto in my honest opinion is the second greatest villians on comic books he's got a compelling story and you almost want him to win in some of his more sane moments but that's why he's second to me because I like a villian that I legitimately dislike or feel a strong sense of distaste for
Malcom X did not advocate for preemptive violence. He advocated that Black citizens should defend themselves in the face of danger and threats, as ANY group of people would, especially white people, which is their go-to provocation-excuse. But because he was Black somehow he saying, what we teach our kids "Don't start fights, but be the one to finish them" somehow was wrong. Further more, Magneto didn't look to Humans as the Nazis did to Jews. He looked to the AMerican Government as the new home to Nazi type personalities and would in time engage the same tactics, only this time, it was against Mutants, and not Jewish migrants. And Magneto was right when considering the black ops programs as well as Sentinels. Real life references = Operation Paper Clip. Other references to such dynamics, within comics = Ozymandias, the Watchmen. I don't consider Magneto a villain, when taking in his overall characters across time. Some writers wrote him as such. But his evolution is on par with Piccilo from Dragon Ball, even though people see him closer to Darth Vader.
Y2JLionHeart Probably. I still don't buy Stan's BS about basing Xavier and Magneto off of MLK and Malcolm X, though. Revisionist history whenever it suits them.
Loved the video!💕 Just started my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
4:53 Out of fear, that Magneto's rage and hatred for Mutant kind would taint their child. Don't you mean "human kind" 6:14 His efforts however, were stopped by Magneto's first generation of X-men... Aren't they Xavier's Generation of X-men? Sorry, if I'm just wrong. The wording just seemed off to me.
Rob this video was magnetic and magnificent !! I love Magneto and have some of the comics you mentioned. But you sir told me the whole story up to date just perfect. Muchas gracias.
"I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? *And if you wrong us, do we not revenge?"* --Shylock, The Merchant of Venice (William Shakespeare) "...a pit where men are thrown to suffer and die. *But sometimes a man rises from the darkness. Sometimes the pit sends something back...Born and raised in hell on Earth"* --Alfred Pennyworth, The Dark Knight Rises (DC Comics)
I don't want to get on the new wave of Stan Lee hating that has been going on in recent years. He's a great creator and helped bring comics to an art form rather than just a time waster. But I don't feel enough good things can be said about what Chris Claremont did for the character of Magneto. He's the man that took him from being a pretty typical villain and made him the deep character that people came to perhaps not love, but at least understand.
If Magneto was the first person to find the ship that gave Apoc his powers, he could fly to Mars and restart it's magnetic field to turn the planet back into a habitable world that the mutants could live on desperately away from humans
If you do a Magneto video, you need an Ultimatum Magneto video. His casual powers were insane. Flipped the poles like they were nothing, dropped Thors hammer...
I go back and forth between whether Dr. Doom or Magneto is the best Marvel villain. Though you can make the argument that Magneto is not a true villain.
in magnetos attempts to protect mutants from humans. he has become the same bigot that he hates. which brings up the question can you fight evil without being affected by it?
Except he has not the same as what he hates. He does not hate people and he can be reasoned with quite easily. His stance has been that he would prefer co-existence to supremacy. He does not consider it realistic in the grand scheme of things because humans fucking suck. He DID go for isolation which was the best alternative for both sides. He has repeatedly made it clear he would 100% be fine with so-existence or mutants and humans not being around each other and will take supremacy as an option if that is what it takes to protect mutant kind. He actually gets along pretty well with non-mutants a number of times as long as they are good people or innocent and are not a threat to mutants. The Red Skull once made the whole "you are a lot like me and Hitler" mistake with Magneto, Magneto while his actions are extremist at times he makes it quite clear where he stands in terms of morality D&D alignment Magneto would not be evil but more likely chaotic neutral or good. Hitler and the Red Skull are however flat out evil on the alignment table.
I love your taste in music. I wish I had like a master list of all of the music you use in your videos. If I can't get that, can somebody tell me what's the song in the background of this video?
You probably won't see this Rob but Thank you for this! It's like the good old days of 20+ mins of knowledge ;D Keep up the fantastic work! Love & Peace
Time is going to be a *serious* problem for Magneto. I wonder how they are going to explain his backstory 30 years from now. Maybe they will redo some of the canon by having fall in a block of ice during WW2.
Absolutely love the character of magneto. The creation of the man he would become at teh hands of the Nazis is all too perfect, and makes it easy to see just where his ideals came from.
Magneto sensibly should easily be able to block Charles using magnetism at his level. At very least combat Charles even telepathically. He is also some what of a telepath as he can cause many things to happen in a person's mind by even controlling the flow of blood to parts of the brain. He can also boost Charles telepathically powers with his abilities. The helmet just makes things easier for Magneto. One it protects his head from blows. As well as blocking telepaths. So he can focus on more powerful feats because he doesn't need to use his power to block them. And after all it was with major help from Magneto that cyrebro was built so the guy has a manger understanding of how telepathy like Charles works.
"When it comes to the case of little Pietro and Wanda... Magnus... a.k.a. Eric Lehnsherr... born Max... hold on...I'm being told I can't reveal his birth name due to threat of entombment inside a metal sphere... Magneto... YOU ARE THE FATHER!
I have always loved the character.... really unusual history though. Didn't know about the Maximoff twins no longer being the offspring of Mags, do you think that has to do with the FOX rights over mutants as well?
Magneto is a beast. As a child reading xmen and watching the XMen series, Magneto's actions didn't make sense. As I grew up and learned more history and more about the character, WOW. I began to respect how well crafted of a character he is. He's a better written/character than Professor X in my opinion. Growing up black in America, if I was a mutant, I could see myself easily swayed to Magneto's way of thinking. Easily.

Wow Rob!!! This is by far my favorite video you've done!! I learned a ton I never knew about Magneto Thank you!
I know Bova was addressed in a previous video.
I still think it's really cool that a sentient bovine midwife can be so easily be glossed over.
There's just so much awesomeness in these stories that it can't all be explained at once.
Is there anyone more perfect for Magneto than Michael Fassbender...outside of Sir Ian McKellen.
"Papa" from Stranger Things.
They're gonna make people lose interest in his character completely.
Yeah he's too much of a jobber now
Magneto is one of the most fascinating characters in the history of comics.
As always, you've given clarity to the sometimes convoluted storylines. I absolutely love Magneto! When I was a kid I always emulated him!
I think Magneto is an Anti Villain rather than a Anti Hero or just plain Villain.
I can relate to him because how he relates to.others and the world around him changes as things change around him, and as his understanding changes. It's real cause it's not always better for everyone else, but he keeps it a lot more honest than when he was playing just plain mega-megalomaniac.
If Professor X and the X men didn't come together, I probably would have joined Magneto if I were a mutant
I have joined Magneto. ;-)
by far one of my favorite characters. I love his history and character growth.
This was a great video, and just off point you are the only person I know that uses music that is not overriding the commentary. Nicely done. Thanks again.
Vallin Vallentine I wish i could find the song he uses
I would call Magneto an Anti Hero more than a Villain.
Magneto is the most tragic villain in all of comics
Hmm, maybe, then again we have Doctor Doom who had a very sad and fucked up childhood and later when he became an adult his life became a total tragedy. Doom is Marvel's best villain hands down, and perhaps even the most tragic one considering that with his incredible intellect he could do so much good for the world if he wanted to. But Magneto is definitely my favorite Anti-hero.
How about Mr. Freeze?
Byronic hero would probably fit best.
It's important to remember that roles like "antagonist" do not necessarily represent morality.
Julian Thorn nah magneto had it way way worse... not just losing his parents but half of his daughters, his wife and even his ppl... ohh and not to mention they didnt just get killed, they got brutally tortured in front of him😭 as a kid, and loses his friends as well in the holocaust
@@ravensnation7391 what do u mean by ''half'' his daughters and "his people"?
When I was a kid, it was Magnetos' story that helped me understand why everyone liked the X-Men comics so much. We can all relate to discrimination on some level. Magneto is the ultimate abused child!
Magneto is the child they regret abusing
Bald Magneto is not a good look...
not hot son,
I agree he looks to much like Xavier.
Yeah! He needs that iconic silver mane.
Magneto is my favorite Marvel Character. Always has been. Thanks for the informative video!
Magneto is the father of quicksilver and scarlet witch. F marvel trying to undue continuity.
PREACH!
Roy Harrigan Amen.
Roy Harrigan Let's take up an offering for this fine gentleman giving us the unadulterated truth this morning.
Roy Harrigan 'Undo' not 'undue'.
crisode1 I hate fucking retards that don’t know basic English. Understandable if they don’t speak English, other than that, no excuse for being genuinely disabled.
Magneto is a beast! I love him on the X-Men! It's like having Sabretooth & Juggernaut on the team!
magneto in my honest opinion is the second greatest villians on comic books he's got a compelling story and you almost want him to win in some of his more sane moments but that's why he's second to me because I like a villian that I legitimately dislike or feel a strong sense of distaste for
Bane, I mean come on, like after that Bruce triangle shit.
PREACH!
P.D. S You didn't mention the mutant supremacy and black supremacy parallels.
Y2JLionHeart Still not championed by Malcolm X. That was NOI and Black Panthers (the latter not so much though).
Malcolm X didn't agree with that when he was with the NOI?
Y2JLionHeart Probably. I still don't buy Stan's BS about basing Xavier and Magneto off of MLK and Malcolm X, though. Revisionist history whenever it suits them.
Loved the video!💕 Just started my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
this was amazing, Rob, nice job! Must have taken awhile to put this video together. keep up the good work.
love magneto. ultimate magneto... not so much.
4:53
Out of fear, that Magneto's rage and hatred for Mutant kind would taint their child.
Don't you mean "human kind"
6:14
His efforts however, were stopped by Magneto's first generation of X-men...
Aren't they Xavier's Generation of X-men?
Sorry, if I'm just wrong. The wording just seemed off to me.
"what I want to do here is have a conversation about Magneto"
more mornings should start this way
Rob this video was magnetic and magnificent !! I love Magneto and have some of the comics you mentioned. But you sir told me the whole story up to date just perfect. Muchas gracias.
Ive been waiting so long for this video, thank you
Excellent video man. Learned more about Magneto than I knew existed before now. Thanks for the upload!
Love Magno. He is in contention for my fav superhero.
Great video, Rob. That helped me learn a few new things about Magneto.
"I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? *And if you wrong us, do we not revenge?"* --Shylock, The Merchant of Venice (William Shakespeare)
"...a pit where men are thrown to suffer and die. *But sometimes a man rises from the darkness. Sometimes the pit sends something back...Born and raised in hell on Earth"* --Alfred Pennyworth, The Dark Knight Rises (DC Comics)
Love all your videos Rob. Keep up the great work!
DOOM and Magneto are the best villains/antagonists in comic history. No 🧢
This feels like more than a fight to give mutants their place in the world, but also a battle against the status quo and companies.
I wanna see Charles have an "I have a dream" speech in the first Disney x men reboot.
my favorite Marvel character ever, thanks Rob!
My all time favorite Marvel/X-Men character! Master Of Magnetism!!
Though you can make the argument that Magneto is not a true villain.
it is very very close call!
it is very very close call!
Great video !!its really hard to keep continuity with over 50 years of content. keep up the good work
in magnetos attempts to protect mutants from humans. he has become the same bigot that he hates. which brings up the question can you fight evil without being affected by it?
Very well said and a true point.
The fact is that Jews are the original xenophobic bigots so his character aligns well with Jewish racial supremacist doctrines.
you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Hitler and the Red Skull are however flat out evil on the alignment table.
but he doesn't target innocent people and slaughter them. The non-Mutants have though
Very well written and researched video.
Robb thanks so much for this. I took a break around House of M and have been lost. I'm going to use this to read from Marvel Unlimited
ive always loved the xmen and magneto was and still is one of my favorites marvel characters. I also love your videos. thanks!
I love your taste in music. I wish I had like a master list of all of the music you use in your videos. If I can't get that, can somebody tell me what's the song in the background of this video?
You probably won't see this Rob but Thank you for this! It's like the good old days of 20+ mins of knowledge ;D
Keep up the fantastic work!
Love & Peace
Time is going to be a *serious* problem for Magneto. I wonder how they are going to explain his backstory 30 years from now. Maybe they will redo some of the canon by having fall in a block of ice during WW2.
One of my favorite Marvel characters. This video feels past overdue!
I wish I had control over rubber. Oh the things I would do.
tell me more.i m curious
God help Ann summers if you could lol
Pony Braddock I could 'study' in the library and not need to use my hands to make it obvious while enjoying myself.
+Christina Ho why the library
+Christina Ho *applause*
Amazing video! Had been waiting for a Magneto video for a while thank you very much.
Could you do a video on Namor and or BlackBolt?
Black Bolt would be sick.
yeah!
he already has Video on black bolt although it's called Inhumans explained it primarily about black bolt.
Great video, I've really enjoyed following and watching you videos for over a year now!!!
Absolutely love the character of magneto. The creation of the man he would become at teh hands of the Nazis is all too perfect, and makes it easy to see just where his ideals came from.
WOW i wasn’t prepared for THIS! my lord. what an amazing background this character holds
Magz is the reason I read comics! Outstanding video! You captured everything!
love watching these videos and I am only trying to help, but between 6:10 - 6:20 you said Magneto was stopped by Magneto's first generation of X-men.
He's like the Malcolm X of mutants.
They keep changing the story of him being the father of scarlet witch and quicksiler. they should just go on maury...
Battleworld:
Heroes: Okay, so we have to fight the bad guys, let's work together guys!!!
Magneto: (is there)
Heroes: 😮
SAVE OUR MUTANTS!!!
#allmutantlifesmatter
+dat boi #allmutantsmatter
Always found it very odd that Wanda was able to influence a well aware Dr Strange at that stage who had some fucking INSANE feats.
So if magus is not their real father who was the mutant that magneto wife cheated on with and where is he at?
Ask Marvel execs.
+ThatAnimeSnob Or Chthon.
Goku?
Awesome! I've been a fan for awhile, and vids like this are why!
6:14 "...were stopped by Magneto's first generation of X-men."
Xavier's?
He makes a lot of mistakes like that on several different videos.
you are the greatest thing to Happen to comics since the Marvel studios started making their own films
I have always loved the character.... really unusual history though. Didn't know about the Maximoff twins no longer being the offspring of Mags, do you think that has to do with the FOX rights over mutants as well?
Magneto testament is the first comic I ever bought and read, and it’s what got me in to comics.❤️
"oh shit I killed a child while trying to ENSLAVE A RACE"
come on magneto
Magneto is a beast. As a child reading xmen and watching the XMen series, Magneto's actions didn't make sense. As I grew up and learned more history and more about the character, WOW. I began to respect how well crafted of a character he is. He's a better written/character than Professor X in my opinion. Growing up black in America, if I was a mutant, I could see myself easily swayed to Magneto's way of thinking. Easily.
I could care less about marvel and their petty retcons: quicksilver and the scarlett witch are magneto's kids.
