I was laid off at 43 and I'm 56 now, I'm glad you made this video, it reminds me of my transformation from a nobody to good home, $64,000 monthly and a good daughter full of love..
Investment is currently the most lucrative business in the world. Both real estate, stock, and crypto currencies are positively changing people's lives.
I managed to survive 30 years as a Nurse Practitioner. Sis those 30 years I had not only toxic bosses, but co-workers from other RNs to MDs. Let's not talk about the patients, and their families. It was a rough road. I had a few horrible jobs but was never fired. But, the heat was turned up so bad I choose my own health over the jobs. I left several well paying jobs because it was a toxic soup of crazy. I ended up calling it quits a few years earlier than I really wanted to take care of my parents. I decided to not return back to my career once I lost both parents within a couple of years. I just could not do it anymore. I just decided to live a very modest life on savings, small pension and just took my social security at 62. I called it quits in my mid 50s. Save yourself first. God Bless you as you navigate forward in this thing called life.
@@DrCareyYazeedTV Thank you BTW as a Black woman working as a Nurse Practitioner I had my more than fair share of racist and bigots along the way as well ....as an educated Black woman operating back then in a roll you did not see many Black women or Black men in this role. Just keep hanging in there and do what is best for you.
Ladies, as you know, health is wealth! My PsyD research was on incivility and bullying in the workplace. As a former HR Mgr and former DEI, and other careers, Research supports the high levels toxicity in the nursing, education, amongst other industries and services. One nurse that I interviewed shared how stress caused her to have a stroke on the job!!! Luckily she survived and was able to retire. Do put your health and wellbeing first! Thank you for sharing your story. Wishing you the best!
Let me preface this by saying, integrity and decency are really important to me. And I’ve been working in the corporate world for the last 30 years, so you can imagine there have been challenges along the way. I have been “let go” 4 times, twice due to downsizing and twice because management didn’t want me around anymore. When management didn’t want me around it was because they knew i wouldn’t play along with blatantly unethical practices. If someone was being bullied and discriminated against, I spoke up. If someone was abusive, I let them know I would not tolerate abuse. I have zero regrets. My goal was always to get what i need from work without losing my own integrity. Mission accomplished. I’m going to leave work in June of next year, in my mid-50’s. after this I’m going to do non-profit work, most likely volunteering. Someone said “Wealth isn’t an abundance of money, it’s an abundance of choice.” I’ll retire early comfortably off, but not rich. I’m done spending my valuable time in environments I really don’t like.
I've had two toxic, abusive jobs and chose to work for myself after also being fired. I work freelance now. My clients express a deep appreciation for me and shower me in gifts. I was never treated that way in corporate! I never want to work in a corporate setting again for the same reasons you mentioned.
I'm 54, turning 55 this year, and hope to be out of my current job by 56 so that I can start my own business. Just waiting for my daughter to complete her Law degree at the end of this year. I'm hoping to leave before being let go...
My condolences on the loss of your son. I will be praying for your healing. You being fired from this position sounds like a real blessing. I hope that you can find the position that is perfect for you! You were too good for those people, which is why your supervisor was threatened. Sometimes, a job loss is a blessing. Good luck with your new adventures. 🌸
I’m approaching 65 and currently working in a super toxic work environment, being ostracized, slandered, no meetings on my calendar, basically they are quietly firing me relegating me doing data entry. Trying to hold on to retirement age but I’m sure it’s affecting my mental health. I’ve grown closer to God, prayers help but I’m am trying to plan my exit strategy as I don’t believe I will be able to live comfortably during retirement unless I work part time or find contact work. Motivation is key!!
Just “quiet quit”, look busy but use your time to think about side hustles, do research, take notes. A friend was setting up her beach body business back in the day while getting underpaid at her desk job. 15 minutes here and there can get things done, skipping lunches and breaks.
I’m 55 and have lost 2 of my kids to untimely accidents. I’m still in corporate America, but listen, I’m ok with the pink slip when it comes. I’ve been doing side hustles since forever ago, as well as other income streams. You’re so right, we are never the same after burying our children. So glad I came across your video. New subby here.
Fired in mid -life. Got a better job 1 year later and a better one a year after that. Bet on yourself. Trust your skills and let them work for you. Being a woman is difficult in the workplace. Being a black woman makes it more difficult. Simply because of people’s emotional strong holds. You’ve got this! Bet on yourself.
I’m 49 and I had to resign from my position because my health wasn’t improving so I apply for other positions for part-time. None wouldn’t hire me. I’ll be 50 this coming August so I’m went back to school to get another career. I’m going to start my own business after I finish completing my course. I understand how you’re feeling. ❤
These type of stories are so consistent, no matter if we think, that we are alone in the matter. The culture of these companies can be very covert. I have been through this kind of problem a few times in my career. This has happened in nyc Florida and dc.
I left my last 9:00 to hell job over three years ago and focused on my counseling business full time. I have my contracts, set my work schedule and collect my well deserved social security benefits. My mind is at peace.
I literally had to leave a role due to an inconsistent work process and leadership that undermines you. I was a widow and didn't feel supported. I'm still trying to regain my footing. All the best to you.
Yes- my boss who handpicked me for my job in 2019 turned on me last year out of NOWHERE. I truly think this woman is having a mental &/or health issue that has totally changed her personality. She had COVID 3x's and im thinking she could have long-covid. Her behavior has been erratic but she's in charge and is revered for her expertise. Last year was so bad and stressful i had a health issue due to stress. BUT GOD all is well with my health. All i can tell others is to Pray to God for protection and direction. 🙏🏾🙌🏾
Since 2012, Out of the past 12 years, I've been out of work for five and a half years. My retirement savings are gone, and I've been in two car accidents caused by negligent drivers. I've been interviewing, but I'm not getting hired because of ageism. I'm going on my own with consulting, AI, and TH-cam. Also, I've lost over 20 people from everything from COVID-19, cancer, suicide, etc, but I refuse to give up, I'm 62 years old. I just subscribed!
I get it Roni. I totally understand and I admire your determination to not give up. Send you a virtual (((hug))) and wishing you much success on your new journey ♥️
Roni, you need a coach. I have 2 friends who used coaches and got jobs, got their resumes right, etc. etc. You need somebody to hold your hand and walk with you.
Ive been following you on LinkedIn and attended one of your webinars and it’s nice to see you here. Your stories resonate. I left a toxic job in 2018 and haven’t worked full time since. At 62 I do want to work again, but the search, the interviews, and the process is awful - my anxiety runs high after so many awful job experiences. I too am a woman of color and am over micro aggressions in the workplace.
It’s great to see you over here as well 👋🏾 Yes, we desire the security a job will bring, but then something traumatic happens like being fired suddenly and you realize your wellbeing was never secure to begin with 😔
I had a crazy, lazy male boss who was trying to get rid of me despite him being very, very new and me with over 10 years of experience. He got himself fired within a year. He held a meeting to tell us that he was leaving, but my friends had already told me. During the meeting he asked us to do certain things and to not do certain things. I did everything he asked us not to do and none of the things he asked us to do. I retired from that job in 2020. Thank you, God.
Oh wow! I'm so sorry this happened to you 🙏🏽 PTSD from workplace trauma is so real. That was classic narcissistic behavior 💯 Thank you for sharing your story 🤎
Yes, been fired...Yes worked with bad bosses...Now 57, I a have my own counseling private practice, low stress...make my own day and loving it. I have been working for others since age 14, but working for myself, with my own schedule is the best. So, you don't need a job, you are the job! I am sorry to hear about the loss of your son. Life is short, so we must live our best life. Be Blessed!
I was fired at 57 and if I’m honest it was a good decision because I was not feeling that job or the people. In fact I already had a new job lined up but my start date was a few weeks away. My current employer found out I was about to quit and asked me not to come back to work. I got zero notice. Well, I took the new job and probably worked another 18 months and quit for good. I was 6 months past my 60th birthday. Best decision I’ve ever made. Life has only gotten better. In a perfect world I would have retired at 55 and never looked back. I hv income from investments and a pension but I’m holding off on social security until 65. Life has never been better. Good luck to you Doc!
I wish you could have retired from the job that fired you - especially since you already had a new job lined up ! God's continued best health to you always !
I'm sorry that happened to you. You are absolutely correct about places allowing toxic people to go unaccountable for their actions. I had something eerily similar happen to a close friend. It's a shame. It's honestly hard to feel like you can even safely work in a corporate environment as a Black woman. I'm wishing you so much success and hope you are able to get the peace and rest you deserve.
In 2025 it is very hard to find a workplace where we feel safe. I’ve pretty much given up and instead will lean heavily into entrepreneurship this year.
She was the problem with the organization!! You had no chance from the beginning. Sorry, honey move on. I can't imagine losing a son. I had a close call with mine twice and it took years off my life 😢 You should try to work for yourself. I just left a toxic space like you're describing. I walked out!! You got this!! I have my own business and I love it!! Hugs❤
Fired at age 52 from a joke of a little under All of a sudden I was not a good fit. I just after almost 10yrs and a rise in my BP I should not have gone on 3 weeks stress leave (recommended by my doctor). An office if 89 with only 2 blacks, what did I expect. Went into entrepreneurship and never looked back. It was a blessing, and 2025 is going to be amazing
Your courage and honesty in speaking openly about toxic jobs and workplace trauma recovery change lives of your audience and readers. I am so sorry for the multiple traumas you have survived over your lifetime and especially in the past couple of years. Your son’s sudden passing is such a deep trauma that most people cannot even begin to imagine. It is truly remarkable that you gathered yourself into that job and handled the toxic boss with such immense professionalism (that she did not deserve or reciprocate). The abuse of your former boss is extremely obvious and I hope that her employer realizes very quickly how much they screwed up by firing you and protecting such a clear workplace abuser. May your book tour bring an abundance of success and open new doors for you in 2025. You are such a tremendous gift whose work has made a huge difference to my own workplace trauma recovery.
Toxic workplaces take a major toll on your body. I left my job in 2018 at 38yrs old. I had PTSD, anxiety, heart attack scare, chronic back pain, major migraines, etc. I pulled myself together and started working at a higher ed institution in 2022. That lasted for a few months and I left, because of toxicity. Since then I've decided not to go back into ANY toxic work environment. Protect your peace. And for anyone reading this in postions of leadership, get proper training in leadership, psychology, philosophy, human biology....Apply what you've learned and be excited about more than a position/title! Be blessed and take care of yourself 😊
I'm 57 and I have been without a full-time job since 2009. Since then, I have gotten four degrees (Associate, Bachelor, Master, Doctorate) and I have run into a lot of ageism while applying for work. I would love to get into the corporate industry, but I have so many reservations about it. I am trying to refocus my energy and figure out what I really want to do with the rest of my life.
Sorry you went through this ❤ 2025 Will be a game changer for black woman who have had enough. Pouring into yourself sounds like a good idea, you’re right we don’t need these prison 9-5 jobs. I just liberated myself from a toxic workplace while on FMLA. Putting myself and my healing first in 2025. I had a boss from hell too, I kept everything documented and prayed for clarity on when to leave. I quit with no notice but provided a detailed resignation about why I quit with no notice. HR at these companies are a joke. I am confident not only will God clear my name in time but he will also handle all of the injustice I have experienced at these jobs. God sees all of it and that is what brings me comfort as a black woman. ❤
Thank you for sharing your story and you’re right, 2025 is the year of the Black woman. We are exhausted and are now focused on pouring back into ourselves 🙌🏾
Hi, not sure if you’re subscribed to the Anti HR lady here on TH-cam, she is a black corporate lawyer who is very knowledgeable with what you’re describing and has good advice on what to do. You could consult with her. Always remember HR interests lies in protecting the organization and not you the employee.
@@UniquePathWellness thank you. The Anti HR lady is a real gem her products and videos are helpful I discovered her channel in late 2023 just couldn’t afford her service fee to help represent me.
Hey Dr. Yazeed, so sorry to hear about your job experience. It's clear they couldn't handle your shine! Your content has been a huge help, especially during my own job transition in August 2024. I've enjoyed following your journey on LinkedIn. Wishing you all the best!
Getting fired smh the worst. I became my pastor’s secretary after getting fired and started my business in 23, spent 24 trying to understand it and get it up and going.
I am so sorry that this happened to you. That manager made everything up and deliberately did what she did to get rid of you. It's so sad, that toxic people get to keep their jobs and decent people lose their jobs. Yes, have been in a toxic job and have been able to move on. It's not worth staying and risking your health. Glad you are ok. ❤
Someone tried to get me fired but my immediate supervisor said she couldn't based on something so simple. Guess what? The new guy over our department and some other employees who wasn't particular about her got her fired big time. They claimed she drank on the job. My office was next to her office. I never smelled alcohol nor did I see her walked as if she was drunk. When moved back to her home town and she found another job. That guy who fired her later was fired for making a racist comment. Those lying employees should have been fired also but they got away.
I was laid off from my medical social work job 2 days ago and I have decided to retired from social work. I need a mental break. It’s so emotionally taxing and these jobs don’t care about the patients just the numbers, the red tap and these work environments are toxic. I have ptsd from my last two job before this one. This was my favorite job I ever had. Sad it’s over and I know God has something greater. I’m going in full time on TH-cam.
I walked away from the field of social work in 2017 and have never looked back. I’ve made way more money since leaving. It’s definitely going to be a mindset shift. Wishing you much success ♥️
I worked in medical social work for almost 14 yrs (1st job after grad school). I quit 10 days shy of my 14 yr work anniversary. I do not miss working in the hospital.. the mandating, on call (getting BS calls 2am from hospital staff), working holidays and evenings and having to come in hail, sleet, snow, hurricane and not be appreciated as a discharge planner. It was all about numbers and getting patients out to get more patients in and many of the top ppl don't care about patient care or safety. I still do social work cause I love it but work from home, no weekends, on call or holidays 😊 I gave that hospital job all of my 20s I refused to give them all of my 30s
Words matter a retired Navy man in his 50’s i can flat tell you 50’s is not midlife. Just because Americans been taught to work until that are half dead don’t change the fact We all should be retired from high stress hard on the body and mind job by mid 50’s.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Every job I've had was toxic until I felt is was normal. One place I worked for 25 YEARS! and fired over vaccination. I was upset at first but now I know that God had answered my silent prayers. I would have never left if not pushed out because the pay was great. I was a slave to income. It's been 18 months and I work at a school making half of what I was making. I'm not stressed, depressed or tired every day. My house is paid off and I am getting rid of the rest of my debt. It was a blessing I needed.
Yes terminated at age 45 and did not realize it was an ageism thing u til my best friend pointed it out. In fact I did not consider myself old. Needless to say I was employed that day at a lower pay but it set me up for 8 months later to completely rebound and walk away with a business I still run today at age 52. Praying for you on your walk after the loss of your son. Great content.
God adds by subtraction. Now you are applying all of the knowledge and wisdom you were giving to someone else for a fraction of your worth, in your own business for yourself ♥️
Hi there, yes was fired last May at the age of 50. I had been with the company for ten years and yes it was devastating. I worked for a black owned resort here in Va. However God had a plan and I started my own practice in the same town as the resort. I am happy I still get nervous from time to time, but I’m doing it. Yes it was the best thing that could have happened to me.
As a project driven business data analyst, at 60, I was laid off last week. It is disheartening but this was perhaps my 5th layoff.... I usually land on my feet, but I am transitioning and focusing on a 3rd career--- a non-profit. And though depleted, I am faithfully expecting something great from God who always shows out, when He shows up. Thankful in advance.
You and I have been connected on LinkedIn for years and I read your articles. You are amazing! Period…. It’s me… Ms. Baker… I’ve bought you coffee a few times. 😉
Hope things get better. Life is certainly lifen. Sad to hear of the loss of your son. You are beautiful and still maintaining I'm glad to see you are moving forward. You never heal from loosing a child.
Hello Dr Yazeed, Yes, I been through everything you talked about on this video and then some. I was in toxic work environments that made me sick behind it. I am not giving up. I want to work and in between jobs now. I am 62 years old and I believe there is something good out there for me.
Dr. Carey, your story mirrors my own in SO many ways. Yes, I’ve experienced everything you described - almost to the syllable. Stay strong. I know you’re a star because I’m already a fan. Reach out if you’re interested in further comparing notes. Peace. ✌🏾
Im in a toxic work environment now. I want to quit and take a break from working for at least a year. I feel stuck because I have a mortgage and debt and do not want to withdraw my 401k early. I will continue to try and come up with a plan and hope to remove myself from the toxic work environment by June.
you are smart to not want to withdraw from 401k. Dont do it. Don't quit your job unless you have another one and the grass aint always greener on the other side. i think work is hard anywhere and we all gotta do it so hang in there and just use your vaca time here and there or your days off to take a break. most people can't take a year off and taking off will just make you not want to come back or make it hard to be hired. just keep saving until you retire. i hate to be a downer but just being realistic. i hated where i worked but hung in until retirement and glad bec hard to find a job now.
I'm sorry this happened to you and others on this channel. Ageism is REAL and firing someone "without cause" gives employers the right to terminate you for ANY reason, IMO, AGEISM! It's under the guise of "at will." I subbed! Best wishes to you and others here.
It's good to speak with an employment lawyer. Sometimes the managers and directors do not know all the laws about firing a person. A good lawyer can sometimes find a loophole.
Wow- I have no words. Not because I’m shocked at your termination, but it is very very similar to the same situation that happened to a friend of mine. Not the details per se but some of the things said to you and the behavior - It’s like a playbook…
I got demoted at about 48 and started on my PhD at that time. I got my PhD and stayed on that toxic job for the next 10 years and retired at 58.5 years old
The problem here…YOU were more qualified, organized, competent and professional than EVERYONE there. IN OTHER WORDS YOU WERE A THREAT. Being fired was a gift good luck you’ll be fine.👌🙏
I pray all continues to go well with you! Some things are necessary endings........ I have worked in a toxic work environment which was very stressful however, it is the foundation of what has made me the leader I am today. My purpose is to build leaders and make sure I exhibit the values of the organization as well as communicate the expectation that my team will exhibit the vales as well. This experience for you have already been a blessing to many of your followers. Your future is bright!
Thank you for my sharing my sister lost her son and had some struggles with work. It's very difficult. What helped her was allowing others to share nice memories of her son. She would call me almost everyday. Talking alot about the situation at work and praying definitely helps. As for me I was fired from a job where owner was a micro manager back in 2008. The husband who also worker there eventually told me she kind of needed someone to blame. It really bother me eventually i found something else❤ from what I here from friends today's work place is very difficult. Starting your own business is the best good luck ❤
At 56, just had this experience at the end of 2024 unprofessional and unethical behaviors that impacted me mentally and emotionally …. I resigned! I was given no direction so I utilized and very effectively my 30 yrs of experience . The less experienced manager found me to be professionally to good at my job therefore threatening and used “stole” my work and ideas as her own and acted as if I was the problem because I wasn’t following direction that she was NOT providing 🤷🏾♀️. It is very helpful to listen and share finally knowing I am not the only very professionally experienced Black woman having these toxic unprofessional experiences in the work place 🙏🏾🤦🏾♀️
Never saw your vids before. A few seconds in, I knew you were in higher ed. I survived that toxic life & retired early. No regrets although the coins are slim. Great things await you outside of that environment. Happy New Year! 🎉
Hey Dr. Carey Yazeed! This is Tee who used to be connected with you on LinkedIn. Love the hairdo! Thank you for sharing your experience. I had a similar manager in HR at a retailer 10 + years ago. Also, while it has gotten better where I have worked for 9 months, I have been retaliated against and yelled at by brats at a popular corporate grocery store that is supposed to be about ethics with food and serving people. I am glad you are out of that toxic situation and moving forward.
Hey 👋🏾 and thank you so much! I had to go back to my roots, which is short hair! I’m sorry to hear about your experience as well. It’s wild out there and I honestly don’t have the bandwidth for dealing with toxic and abusive work environments anymore.
@hmm-zoolol You don’t know what I am working on or what skills I have. You should focus on yourself and get better education on judging people and replying to comments.
I'm sorry that happened to you. It seems like you were setup for failure from the beginning. You needed to get out of that toxic environment sooner rather than later. Continue to follow your passion! And, you look great!❤
A close friend said the same thing, they felt I was being set up for failure from Day 1. And you’re right, I needed to get out of that toxic environment! Thanks for the kind words! 🙏🏾
I'm so glad your video appeared in my feed. Yes, ive experienced all three mentioned, from toxic environments, people, and micromanaging. Its nice to hear how others triumped over such stressful experiences. Please do a video on strategic planning. Since I've experienced these things, I try to help others and plan to advocate and help even more this year. I've definitely subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much for this much needed video!! Perfect timing! 😉
I recently had trouble with my boss and i asked HR to give me a different supervisor. She went to the assistant director and had him to give me a “coaching “ for something she told me to do. I told HR that I can’t accept the “coaching “ and showed them documented proof that what I was coached for wasn’t true. I have definitely been through a toxic environment. But at least i have a different supervisor now. I had to file a complaint about how I was treated. I’m a health inspector, and meet my metrics each month with my restaurant inspections- i don’t feel I should have been treated that way.
Additionally Id like to add how a poor manager can mess with your mental health. Before her I was a star in my job. And after her I again became a star. Doing the same work! Now I am a union rep and I help protect employees from these toxic type of managers. Ive seen the same situation happen to others over and over again.
Hi and thank you for being so transparent about your experience. I am 56 and was fired a week after my birthday. I was fired by the VP whose girlfriend was my boss and who I filed a formal complaint about in Feb 2024. The girlfriend who was my boss was a bully and tried to suppress oppress and intimidate me however I decided enough was enough and filed a complaint to the CEO however her girlfriend became the VP over my department and fired me Nov 2024. Yes I have PTSD from this experience and I have plenty of skill to not go back into the workforce. That job was causing me many stomach issues and since being let go I have not had 1 stomach ache and I can actually eat food where when I was there I could not eat. To God be the glory because I stayed too long.
It’s never about the tea. I drink Hibiscus it’s caffeine free plus if you mixed a fruit flavored vinegar with liquid stevia drops with crushed ice you can make it into a sugar free sweet drink. Almost like slushee. She can go sit down and cry in her journal.
See…that’s what I was thinking! And the cater said his hibiscus tea was very popular so when she said that I was like, “this ain’t about the tea and all about you suddenly not liking me.”
I got laid off and also retired at 52 and honestly, I wish I’d done it sooner. The 9-to-5 grind always steals your freedom for a paycheck that barely scratches the surface. My advice? If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, start saving for FIRE now (Financial Independence, Retire Early.) And if you’re in your 50s, invest smartly and break free from relying on your job. Market trends, like the Trump Effect, have made millions for many, including me. Stay focused, stay consistent, and remember financial freedom is within reach if you make it a priority.
Working with Lorrie Greta Hillard , a financial advisor, was a game changer. She helped me refine my savings strategy, including retirement planning, and provided expert guidance on investments and budgeting to maximize my savings.
I hope you know that you can sue them for wrongful termination! There are steps that they have to do to terminate someone and it doesn't sound like they did. There are attorneys out there that will listen to your case and decide if they want to pick it up. If they decide to take your case you won't have to pay anything upfront. If your attorney wins Dell did Doug their feet from your settlement. It is typically a 65/35 split. You take the bigger piece. Let me know if you want to know what kind of attorney
This society breeds "toxic employers" along with "toxic" work environments. And I have had my share of them before reaching age 66. However, I have been taught to keep the spirit of our great ancestors in me who sacrificed their lives for me to become educated in character and formal education. Also, to maintain a rich and creative mindset no matter the weather of a situation. That way you will not be a slave to those who try destroy you mentally, physically, and spiritually. This mindset I found keeps me marching forward into new horizons despite negative or tragic experiences that may occur in our lives. That being said, I wish you good fortune in your new endeavors! Keep on keeping on!👍
Congratulations Dr Yazeed! Continue to be the inspiration that you are! I appreciate you and your work. She was also straight jealous in my book...so sad yet your pain became your purpose and ours!
Sorry that happened to you sister praying for your family about your son🙏.... I'm the same age as you I'm 55... I've been a entrepreneur for off and on for about 23 years... start my company 20 years ago... fck corporate America... I started in that system I found out real quick they not for us... through the years I have been through some corporate companies when my business got slow.... but at this point I'm unemployable I'm hard-headed.😂... I will take the good and the bad from business but I will not work for a corporate America company long-term ever again in my life... they waste your time good luck to you sister
I’m so sorry this happened to u. I quit my toxic job in 2023 because of an abusive & very toxic boss that the company didn’t do anything about. You are very qualified at what u do & I know a company will hire you & appreciate your value.
My biggest problem is that I go for these jobs that don't reach my full potential. once I tried to be innovative and helpful and just keep to myself in the process they tend to drain you want you to just have jokes and have fun all the time no productivity and then they become threatened when you don't follow through with them. I have discovered this year 2025 to just establish my own business and focus on that that has been my grind so far
I happened on your video, sorry for the lost of your son. You assessed that last UL personnel properly. I had a true boss from HELL and she and the executive personal assistant were both fired after they were in cahoots to get me fired. They were envious of my confidence in myself, my job and my ethical work acumen which I at time made them look incompetent (which they were) at their positions. I handled my position according the regulations which made them look terrible at running their departments. I left and got another job and trying to build up more for my nest egg to prepare for retirement. As I look back I should have always been an entrepreneur, but didn’t realize until late in life… I come from a family of entrepreneurs and it was meant for me. I just needed a push. Thanks for sharing and you are not alone. 😊
Yes to all questions. I’ve worked in a couple of bad places with bad bosses. I worked a temp position and one of the employees informed me she was racist when it was the environment as a whole. I made a complaint and was told I’m intelligent I should have known how to address the situation. They had just sent us home from Covid so I quit.
I want to say firstly how very sorry I feel about the loss of your son; one can only imagine. Secondly, I know exactly how you feel, I've been there - being fired from a large corporation when I was 62. When toxic managers surface, document every single, petty, under-handed incident from them. I successfully sued for age discrimination (other charges can be tacked on), when the manager got wind of my intention, he was practically kissing my feet. I was silently saying, "Back up cockroach!" On another note, nobody drinks Hibiscus Tea?!😏
I’m 49 and was laid off back in August from a toxic job. My lay off came as a relief but I was still angry at the circumstances. The job market has been frustrating but I’m glad I don’t have to return to people I used to work with. It is sooo difficult being the only or one of the few black people in the office. I pray my new, future opportunity had more diversity and less toxicity.
During your interviews make sure you ask about diversity in the company. You should also research the company and see if you can locate employee demographics. This will help you to make well informed decisions. Lastly, think outside the box when applying for your next job. Go for what makes you uncomfortable or you think your under qualified for 😉
The best thing you said was I’m an entrepreneur and I have survived without a corporate job. I took a job after owning my own business it was toxic as heck after a long 9 months I decided to make a change on my terms and quit. I haven’t looked back since I’m about to be 62. My earnings have dipped some however I’m happy the stress I have is self inflicted and manageable. Don’t fall for the trap that we need someone 😂lane to pay us find your power lean into your strengths and move forward. Don’t look back look forward.
I commend you for putting yourself first and taking care of your mental health. As hubby used to always remind me “there’s always two sides to a story.” I always remind myself “when God closes a door, he knows better and has prepared something magnificent for me in his most perfect timing.” I wish you all the best, and it means a lot to me how you are sharing your experiences so we can all heal.
I’m 57 and was just fired a few days from a VERY TOXIC WORKPLACE! I’m a Coach as well & had just gone back to work. I will NEVER do it again!!! This makes me MORE DEDICATED to my Coaching Biz💯 Thanks so much for this 💞💞💞💞💞
We have to start normalizing protecting our peace & mental health. It always saddens me when I hear people staying in toxic environments because of money and using the excuse of ‘I need to get a job before I can leave this job’ while spiraling and being subjected to unnecessary trauma. This is a new day where if a job is not working, we leave immediately!! I left my job December 2023 and haven’t worked since. Perhaps the Lord doesn’t want you to work in this season. I pray speedy recovery for all who’ve experienced toxicity at the hands of evil people.
This is the most accurate representation of a toxic work environment I’ve seen. It’s the story that my husband and I can relate to. We were never fired, but knew enough to read the tea leaves and not ignore the red flags. I will never understand why organizations allow people like that to run their business. Those behaviors are rampant in nonprofits.
I hear you and I wish there was more accountability for people like that, but like you stated…organizations ALLOW people like this into their leadership, which tells me they also support toxic work cultures and the mistreatment of employees.
I have worked in toxic job environments & had twice been fired. The key to survival after being fired is not to beat upon yourself or give up. I think everyone should take classes in Psychology at some point in their work life in order to understand folks from varied backgrounds we encounter in this life. This will give us some knowledge of how to assess each work environment. As you stated, at the outset you noticed the attitude of those in your work space. A prime example are those who befriend you to get to know your private life then twist & spill your information around negatively. Typically this is someone who pretend to dislike our supervisor, but secretly is in it to gain favorite status with him/her to get ahead. This is just one of many examples of experiences I had with races of all kinds, foreign & domestic.
I started my TH-cam channel over a week ago and your advice is GREAT! Life in the UK - England and DUMPSTER DIVING is a passion as it allows me to help people even though i am on minimum wage here. Im in a real bind. Im 50, been working for the same hospital in administration for 30 years. Now that im ready to retire and find something else I have a cancer diagnosis. I didn't get any life insurance outside of my employer and health insurance for specialty visits are too expensive to not have any. Im so ready to retire from this place and now wish I invested more outside. The pension I'll get won't be enough to live off and was hoping to work part-time but now I don't know what to do.
I would think of something that you could do that won’t require a lot of energy because of your diagnosis. Maybe creating a digital product that can generate residual income 🤔
I needed to hear this. In Oct 24, I was injured and unable to return due to the injury. I was released from my contract. The boss was toxic and the job was toxic. I started a business and continued a previous business. I am not sure if I want to return back to a career of toxicity.
I uploaded a video yesterday because HR had me thinking I was going to be terminated. I’m so glad I kept a paper trail! You are definitely in my prayers ❤

You’re a true inspiration, thank you for sharing.🙏🏾
This was a sermon somebody needed to hear 🙌🏾 Wish you much success in your next chapter ♥️
Thank you for sharing that @ Mary-tj5qx

Welll said and so true.
Thank you for standing up for others!

Just “quiet quit”, look busy but use your time to think about side hustles, do research, take notes.
A friend was setting up her beach body business back in the day while getting underpaid at her desk job. 15 minutes here and there can get things done, skipping lunches and breaks.
But you can already collect SS at 65, right ? I wouldn't be worried much about things at work at that age.😢

These type of stories are so consistent, no matter if we think, that we are alone in the matter. The culture of these companies can be very covert. I have been through this kind of problem a few times in my career.
This has happened in nyc Florida and dc.
You are so right! And unfortunately, most companies aren’t willing to do anything about toxic leaders and the cultures they create.
I left my last 9:00 to hell job over three years ago and focused on my counseling business full time. I have my contracts, set my work schedule and collect my well deserved social security benefits. My mind is at peace.
I love it!!!!!

Absolutely!! I quit and went back to work in a different department of the same organization. Now, I am working on starting my own Private Practice.

Wow! That is awesome! God is good!

I hear you. Protect your peace! 🙏🏾
I'm 57 and I have been without a full-time job since 2009. Since then, I have gotten four degrees (Associate, Bachelor, Master, Doctorate) and I have run into a lot of ageism while applying for work. Those lying employees should have been fired also but they got away.

you are smart to not want to withdraw from 401k.

Definitely a playbook!
I got demoted at about 48 and started on my PhD at that time. I got my PhD and stayed on that toxic job for the next 10 years and retired at 58.5 years old
Bless you 🙏🏾 After experiencing PTSD on another job I’ve void to never stay where I’m not appreciated nor do I feel safe.
The problem here…YOU were more qualified, organized, competent and professional than EVERYONE there. IN OTHER WORDS YOU WERE A THREAT.
Being fired was a gift good luck you’ll be fine.👌🙏
I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying that you have support and continue to heal ❤
Thank you for sharing your journey to becoming a great leader 🙂
Thank you for my sharing my sister lost her son and had some struggles with work. It's very difficult. What helped her was allowing others to share nice memories of her son. She would call me almost everyday. Talking alot about the situation at work and praying definitely helps.
As for me I was fired from a job where owner was a micro manager back in 2008. The husband who also worker there eventually told me she kind of needed someone to blame. It really bother me eventually i found something else❤ from what I here from friends today's work place is very difficult. Starting your own business is the best good luck ❤
Thank you for sharing your sister’s story♥️
Wow 🤯 I’m so sorry you had to experience that!
Time to start your own business.😊
Dr. Carey Yazeed is a cutie!👓
Never saw your vids before. A few seconds in, I knew you were in higher ed. I survived that toxic life & retired early. No regrets although the coins are slim. Great things await you outside of that environment. Happy New Year! 🎉
Higher ed is a beast within itself. I worked in that field for 11 years.
Can you move to another store or another company? Get a marketable skill.
I’m glad you discovered me too! I’m planning to do a video on strategic planning this month so stay tuned🤗
I’m glad you stood up for yourself! What happened to your former supervisor? Were they fired?
We need your wisdom, experience, insights , and guidance in TH-cam 😊
Thank you for the encouragement and for watching! I’m definitely going to be more consistent here on TH-cam this year.
@@DrCareyYazeedTVTime to write an employment guide book. You can sell it on line as a pdf.😊
Additionally Id like to add how a poor manager can mess with your mental health. Before her I was a star in my job. And after her I again became a star. Doing the same work! Now I am a union rep and I help protect employees from these toxic type of managers. Ive seen the same situation happen to others over and over again.
This!!!!!
Im a New Subbie! I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Things happen for a reason, and a better job is about to come!
I hear you! I’m so glad you are in a better place now. 🙏🏾
@@DrCareyYazeedTVYour supervisor was very insecure and petty.
Hibiscus Tea is excellent for reducing your BP naturally 👍
I got laid off and also retired at 52 and honestly, I wish I’d done it sooner. The 9-to-5 grind always steals your freedom for a paycheck that barely scratches the surface. My advice? If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, start saving for FIRE now (Financial Independence, Retire Early.) And if you’re in your 50s, invest smartly and break free from relying on your job. Market trends, like the Trump Effect, have made millions for many, including me. Stay focused, stay consistent, and remember financial freedom is within reach if you make it a priority.
Great advice! Thanks for sharing🫶🏾
Exactly My point! The 9 to 5 grind is just not worth it the stress and low payoff. What specific steps did you take to break free?
Working with Lorrie Greta Hillard , a financial advisor, was a game changer. She helped me refine my savings strategy, including retirement planning, and provided expert guidance on investments and budgeting to maximize my savings.
Got it! Thanks for the tip! I was curious, so I looked up Lorrie
I have 5 more years and I can’t wait to retire!
Thank you for the suggestion ♥️
Keep on keeping on!👍
I’m so glad the ancestors have kept you going! And thank you so much for the kind words ♥️
@DrCareyYazeedTV My pleasure! I am glad that you appreciate my kind words of encouragement. Take care!❤️
I love your hairstyle. Your hairstylist did a fantastic job with it. Looks very nice on you.🥰
I’m going to show her your comment! This will make her day🤗

TOXIC WORK ENVIRONMENTS AND TOXIC MANAGERS ARE HORRIBLE!
The worst!
Thank you for this testimony 🙌🏾
I want a job but I don’t need a job. Amen. A blessing to be able to move the way you want to. At this point I am open to contracting and remote only.
Contract work and remote work is a win these days 🙌🏾
WORK WHERE YOU ARE CELEBRATED NOT tolerated.
Amen and amen 🙌🏾
I’m so sorry this happened to u. I quit my toxic job in 2023 because of an abusive & very toxic boss that the company didn’t do anything about. You are very qualified at what u do & I know a company will hire you & appreciate your value.
Thank you so much for the kind words♥️
My biggest problem is that I go for these jobs that don't reach my full potential. once I tried to be innovative and helpful and just keep to myself in the process they tend to drain you want you to just have jokes and have fun all the time no productivity and then they become threatened when you don't follow through with them. I have discovered this year 2025 to just establish my own business and focus on that that has been my grind so far
It sounds like you’re on the right path! 🙏🏾
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Wishing you continued success♥️
Wait…she told you she was racist 🤯
@@DrCareyYazeedTVIt was another employee who said she was a racist.😊
I want to say firstly how very sorry I feel about the loss of your son; one can only imagine. Secondly, I know exactly how you feel, I've been there - being fired from a large corporation when I was 62. When toxic managers surface, document every single, petty, under-handed incident from them. I successfully sued for age discrimination (other charges can be tacked on), when the manager got wind of my intention, he was practically kissing my feet. I was silently saying, "Back up cockroach!" On another note, nobody drinks Hibiscus Tea?!😏
Thank you for sharing and yes…who really drinks hibiscus tea ☕️ 😂
I’m 49 and was laid off back in August from a toxic job. My lay off came as a relief but I was still angry at the circumstances. The job market has been frustrating but I’m glad I don’t have to return to people I used to work with. It is sooo difficult being the only or one of the few black people in the office. I pray my new, future opportunity had more diversity and less toxicity.
During your interviews make sure you ask about diversity in the company. You should also research the company and see if you can locate employee demographics. This will help you to make well informed decisions. Lastly, think outside the box when applying for your next job. Go for what makes you uncomfortable or you think your under qualified for 😉
Working with too many of us can be toxic.
Thank you for sharing you story and inspiration ♥️
I commend you for putting yourself first and taking care of your mental health. As hubby used to always remind me “there’s always two sides to a story.” I always remind myself “when God closes a door, he knows better and has prepared something magnificent for me in his most perfect timing.” I wish you all the best, and it means a lot to me how you are sharing your experiences so we can all heal.
Awww thank you so much!
I’m 57 and was just fired a few days from a VERY TOXIC WORKPLACE! I’m a Coach as well & had just gone back to work. I will NEVER do it again!!! This makes me MORE DEDICATED to my Coaching Biz💯 Thanks so much for this 💞💞💞💞💞
God closed that door to make room for you to do coaching 100% of the time 🙌🏾 Wishing you abundance and happiness in your new season ♥️
I agree! I think God has bigger plans and that rejection was actually his protection.
Condolences for your loss of your son🥹🙏🏾.
Thank you♥️
This is the most accurate representation of a toxic work environment I’ve seen.
Exactly! You nailed it!
Only watched one of your videos and already know I’m going to enjoy your content! You are a trooper and God is going to keep you! Amen!

@DrCareyYazeedTV I will do some research on this. Thanks for the idea.❤️
Don't leave yet. Get yourself together first.
I needed to hear this. In Oct 24, I was injured and unable to return due to the injury. I was released from my contract. The boss was toxic and the job was toxic. I started a business and continued a previous business. I am not sure if I want to return back to a career of toxicity.
